After Leafy got banned on UA-cam (and apparently just recently on Twitch), the situation has given rise to a lot of opinions - some happy, celebrating his takedown, some cautious about him being deplatformed, urging everyone to think twice before they pop their champagne. While there's reasonable arguments on both sides, today we take a look at why neither side is completely in the right, which arguments got lost in translation, and why when we draw the line, the whole thing is a giant waste of potential. - Комедії

I still remember when people had ads for weed playing on Russian UA-cam, like, actual weed.
I feel like youtube is biased, since they haven't banned people who are animal abusers, people like Jake Paul, etc. HOWEVER, Leafy kind of had it coming. While he did bring up good points, calling Pokimane ugly in every single video for 3 minutes straight isn't actual criticism and is harassment. Also, saying that Pokimane has a boyfriend isn't criticism either. So while yes, he did bring up good points, a. they were all mute points (for ex: copyright claiming. she stopped after she got called out on it the second time, didn't go after people's sponsors [that was really fucked up tho], etc), b. they were effectively harassment, and that set him up for termination. He milked it so much that even if youtube only used half of the videos, he would still be terminated.

@@bungeespeaks6081 Well back then, he made content that was too kid friendly, and it ended up cutting everyone's ad revenue in half. Basically, he turned his content into something that advertises his merchandise to kids. Now the advertising isn't the problem. The problem is that there is no clear boundary between the advertising and the content itself. So wouldn't you know it, COPPA ends up cracking down on the site. He literally breaks the child safety guidelines, by advertising his merch and basically turning his young audience into a cash cow. So yes, he of all people should be banned.

Yeah, leafy kind of had it coming, but still those guidelines need to be changed quickly. I don't understand how these content creators are even sticking with it by this point.

Well, leafy did take a break for two years. You could say that when leafy left youtube, youtube was different then than it was when he came back. But he still kept pushing the boundaries.
Pushing boundries was the whole point. He returned knowing exactly what would happen, but not how long it would take. I think he liked Twitch better though.

Well advertisers still want content to be as much kid friendly as possible. And without the advertisers, UA-cam is basically nothing. So UA-cam doesn’t always have that much of a choice

I think that people are only angry at the inconsistenties. UA-cam bans leafy but Jake Paul has broken so many guidelines as well as many other content creators. Sometimes with a channel I believe called NELK? They just got banned for starting a party during COVID-19 but Jake Paul as well as Tana Mongoose and I think Erika Costell were doing the exact same thing multiple times and he even got raided by the FBI but UA-cam didn't do anything. That's why I would say most people are angry.
Jake, Tana, and Erika probably make UA-cam more money than Leafy. Idk about the other channel, tho. Not saying it’s right, but I’m sure that’s their mindset.

@ignis fatuus 66 leafy isn’t edgy he’s just not a thin skin like everyone else these days. This youtuber is pro censorship, which means he believes that youtube should take down “inappropriate” content. He agrees with UA-cam’s overprotective moderation.
I know he broke the rules. my biggest issue is the communication from youtube around this. you're supposed to have a warning, 3 strikes and then ban. youtube skipped the 3 strikes and went straight to a ban without any explanation of which videos violated their policies. without a clear example of what Leafy did to get banned on top of ignoring the 3 strike system gets me worried about what I can and can't say on this platform.
My channel is just reading other people's tweets but some of those tweets are aggressive and go close to the edge of what's harassment on youtube so idk

Er... That''s not the first time that's happened to a channel *cough* mumkey *cough*, UA-cam instantly deplatforming creators without notice or reason has been a problem plaguing any aspiring creator making content that isn't exactly 100% family-friendly.
These are the rules creators have to play by, whether they like it or not, cause a majority of UA-cam and their audience don't care. As long as the advertisers are getting a good deal and the competition is non-existent, UA-cam will be the only decision maker, even if the platform and its rules are a dumpster fire.

Just wanted to chime in; when he talks about having a warning, he didn't get a "warning" by email or anything, he got a strike and your first strike is considered a warning.
A warning is a warning then it moves to a strike, a warning isn't counted as a strike, that's not how it works. Leafy got a warning previously and then got terminated the next.
@@kitemogiya1734 A warning is essentially a fourth strike, I know cause I have one. It's a strike that does not go away neither, and it sometimes does not even let you know what the exact problem with the video was.
He got a strike on his ImAlexx and H3H3 videos originally, but those strikes were taken away by UA-cam, im pretty sure. When the strikes were removed, UA-cam essentially told Leafy that the videos he was making were acceptable
Fabulous Aura last time I checked, youtube has a 3 strike system to give the creator a chance to change and follow the guidelines incase a mistake is made. Leafy was given a warning, not a strike and then was suddenly striked down which is not fair.

I just don’t understand why they hold “harassment” barely crossing the line over channels like pollution entertainment literally killing animals and other channels posting those videos of them “rescuing” animals that they abused themselves. There’s so much horrid content that clearly shouldn’t be allowed but they see leafy call out pokimane and they ban him. I just don’t get it.
Because Leafy is so much more famous, therefore more visible for UA-cam. I haven't heard of that channel, but I do for Leafy.

I, as a leafy "fan", stand on mostly what cr1tikal and other commentary channels have pointed out about how arbitrary UA-cam's rules are:
Leafy's ban was completely deserved and expected, there were no surprises there, but it's almost like it happened because he was popular. Peluchín entertainment's channel is somehow still up and he does nothing but torture cats, and so do other UA-cam channels that copy him, so if Leafy is getting terminated permanently then why isn't peluchín? One of these is obviously more important that the other, yet has been overlooked for years. I believe the problem here are not UA-cam's rules, per se, but how they're enforced.
I agree, those channels definitely need to be taken down. It's easy to look at youtube as one entity but realistically youtube is massive and is all over the world. It might be more realistic to see youtube in regions, kind of like how netflix has different regions and their shows vary on the region theyre in. Peluchin is based in Chile and his followers are part of the South American region. Whoever is in charge of monitoring content in that region may be enforcing the rules differently versus how it's enforced here in the US. It also depends on how popular the content is and whether it's even hitting their radar in comparison to the biggest youtubers in that area. Kinda like how pewdiepie is constantly getting shit on for no reason, simply because he has the biggest platform and is constantly being monitored.
Yeah, if you wanna make the rules, at least dole them out consistently. Leafy's channel wasn't active for the longest time, but violated their policy despite that, yet they didn't take him down while he was inactive, they did it when he was gaining popularity after coming back, but also after other popular creators complained.
In my honest opinion, the ban was more self serving than anything else.
Bans often do happen because of popularity, when sketchy content is popular it is brought to the attention of people who have the capability to incite the harassment termination policy (insta-ban as I call it)
Why are you a fan of someone whose ban is “deserved and expected”. Come on, you have to acknowledge that’s non-sensical...
UA-cam being more strict on more popular channels is completely reasonable and should be expected from such a big platform.
Popular channels are simply more important and dangerous to UA-cam
