Damn those drums sound like bombs going off. So cool to see super old footage that isn't finals and how much more room they had to grow that year. Makes me proud to be a former Cadet.
Back when I marched many years with The Cavaliers I knew you as the Garfield Cadets & have always had great respect for the Corps... I salute you!... And You will be GREATLY missed!
I saw this live in dallas two weeks prior and they blew my FACE oFF! my friend was with me and never seen this before... he was like "Nobody came beat them" thanks DCI cadets for the excitement and pagentry on a hot summer Texas night outdoors!
I’m assuming you guys just learned the new closer at the time? Because going back through rehearsal footage from earlier in the year, this show was WAY different than it was in San Antonio (which I guess is normally the case every year lol)
I was there watching. This was the first year DCI allowed concert brass (Bb trumpets, F mellophones etc) on the field. Cadets, Blue Devils and Cavaliers were the first three corps to make the switch from G brass in 2000.
Justin Atkinson unfortunately our finals performance didnt necessarily reflect how good i think we were throughout the entire summer - and i remember we all felt it afterwards
Perhaps nerves can do that:) I seem to recall it happened in 96, and it happened to us in 97 in more ways than one. I recall just tuning out stadium crowds, having always been a nervous performer, but then suddenly the last three nights, what with the CAMERAS and all, suddenly I was nervous again, like I had been at all concerts up till that summer, all over again.
I remember standing underneath the stands during this show waiting for retreat, we had not seen cadets yet and we couldnt figure out that crowd reaction till we later on figured out that tenor solo 😮😮😮 holy crap what a great show this was… do you by any chance also have footage of Beatrix drum and Bugle corps from this night??
Holy shit I marched this show!
do you remember Rob Mattera (tuba)
@@matthewpearson8836 Hell yeah I do.
He's one of my very bestfriends. He has so many awesome stories from this season!
@@matthewpearson8836 Yeah I enjoyed marching with him (except the time I was hit in the face with the back of his tuba).

Yes, it's such good fortune that Paul hung on to these videotapes for 20+ years.
@@cbcsuperfan749 I just wish he got some field level footage of us. But ANY recording of this year is satisfying.
Super old is the 1950s and 1960s VFW!!!!!! 🤗😝

Never gave the crowd a chance for the standing O until the end. Nonstop action.
Yes sir.
I'm pretty sure I was there. I had just moved to San Antonio in June of 2000.
We made a statement that night!
92.05 in July.

@@KiranSundarkdog97 You are correct, we had just learned the new ending by this time.
Yes, the first show with the final ending (seen here) was in Dallas a couple nights before this. It is on 2000 - Part 3/6.
The old ending was so underwhelming it’s almost comical

Cavaliers were still on Gs

@@asultuous eh, you made it up for it in the victory run - all good ;)
@@asultuous I did think it kinda sounded off from a hornline perspective. Bad intonation and people sticking out/not blending.

If there was a show I wished I marched, it would be this.
Also went to Marlyand for finals, awesome including SCV Adagio for Strips...EPIC!
