The Cadets of Bergen County - 1995 - Runthrough - Ypsilanti, Michigan
Переглядів 7792 роки тому
Runthrough after rehearsal at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan on either July 28 or July 29, 1995. This is notable for the tag after the closer, where the men in the corps march off to war at the end, and the women remain at "home," where they play a hymn with a hint of "America, the Beautiful" included.

I'm pretty sure I was there. I had just moved to San Antonio in June of 2000.
I learned this closer at the January 1-3 camp that year
Just awesome thank you for sharing
❤😊🎉
Yes
Never gave the crowd a chance for the standing O until the end. Nonstop action.
Thank you Superfan. Cadets = Awesome!!!
Yes sir.
Back when I marched many years with The Cavaliers I knew you as the Garfield Cadets & have always had great respect for the Corps... I salute you!... And You will be GREATLY missed!
Hey Superfan, I've been a Cadets fan for a long time. By you adding all these vids I'm even becoming more of a fan and yes, a superfan like you!
The first time I saw the Cadets was 1965! They had some great years and some not so great years back then. But as of 1980, they got on a roll and truly became a super corps and my personal favorite!
Great video. To me the Cadets over the long run has been the most creative drum corps, period!
Love the part starting around 51:30. Great writing.
these are awesome to watch. can hear all of the music changes and as the members get stronger the corps gets more clarity and projection
1:25:00 that’s different😂
listening thru all of these can really hear all of the changes and the corps coming together. pretty cool
Ahh yes, the 90's Cadets.
It is amazing how clean this guard is...and how big those flags are.
Minute 5:14. “What’s spinney doing?” - Jeff Sacktig. 😂😂😂
I thought he said "Katy."
I HATED marching this show...GOSH we were terrible at this point of the season.
I remember standing underneath the stands during this show waiting for retreat, we had not seen cadets yet and we couldnt figure out that crowd reaction till we later on figured out that tenor solo 😮😮😮 holy crap what a great show this was… do you by any chance also have footage of Beatrix drum and Bugle corps from this night??
I was there watching. This was the first year DCI allowed concert brass (Bb trumpets, F mellophones etc) on the field. Cadets, Blue Devils and Cavaliers were the first three corps to make the switch from G brass in 2000.
Cavaliers were still on Gs
Any idea what the first parade tune is?
Strike Up The Band.
This 1999 show was really cool and I loved the drum book.
What were the circumstances you are referring to in the performance part of this video - towards the end?
Damn those drums sound like bombs going off. So cool to see super old footage that isn't finals and how much more room they had to grow that year. Makes me proud to be a former Cadet.
Yes, it's such good fortune that Paul hung on to these videotapes for 20+ years.
@@cbcsuperfan749 I just wish he got some field level footage of us. But ANY recording of this year is satisfying.
Super old is the 1950s and 1960s VFW!!!!!! 🤗😝
So was the tag always in the show but just never in film? Was it taken out before finals? I’m a bit confused.
They tinkered with the ending all year, eventually landing on what you see on the official DCI video. My understanding is that they tried 4-5 different endings throughout the season.
I marched snare this summer and yes we had several endings. My fav was the original. That thing was screaming at you fast and serious beats! Not only endings but one of the coolest drum features before the parade that was also taken out. It was a beast! Drum set stuff changed a bunch as well from individual solos to what you see at the end. It was a lot of learning to navigate what you see in finals.
Cool to see the staff getting SO excited at the end of the Allentown performance. I might've been there as a spectator, too, thinking about it now.
OMG, If I'm not mistaken at 1:34:54, that's Willy Higgins doing his Up-Down-Up Stabbing motion gesture at me, which he did all the time. I mean, hey, when you're on a concert bass drum playing HALF NOTES, you have time for a laugh like that:) (He started it, all I did was laugh, each and every time it happened.)
I died laughing at 1:24:52
I'd completely forgotten we did a clinic at the citrus bowl. #mindblown
Yeah, it's wild to see stuff that you don't remember. There is a recording of the horns playing Adagio for Strings in 2001, but nobody I know who marched in 2001 remembers it.
ooh, the older longer intro, loved it!
omg, I remember that show where two horns went down toward the end, stadium had a big press-box type of thing on both sides. Didn't we somehow "win marching" that night? I seem to remember some member talking about that in a bemused fashion.
Did that dreary Z-pull get ANY applause in ‘03? It didn’t at Finals, either. They outmarched, outplayed and outspun Cavies but still couldn’t get them.
Yeah, there was no catching the Cavaliers that year. I think we knew it was over in Des Plaines, IL, when Cavies had a pile up and a dozen kids went down and they still won marching.
1:22:40 The GAAA move of the year.
25:33
They won Guard in Ypsi. Best in Buffalo, too, but they finished 3rd.
@Socialish Don’t argue numbers with me. You won’t win. Q. S. F CAV: 9.8+ 9.6 + 9.9= 29.3 CAD: 9.7 + 9.8 + 9.7= 29.2 BD: 9.9 + 9.7 + 9.8=29.4 Blue Devils won Best Guard in 1995. Plus, I was there and remember the awards (including a 3-way Brass tie).
@Socialish I was TALKING guard. Stay on topic!
@@lordchord Mind your fucking business.
On a hilarious note, in the ensemble rehearsal footage around 40:00, it most certainly looks like the DM is wearing sheer shorts (as noticed by my girlfriend)
Very grateful for your videos. I was definitely a cadet super fan too. I was 15 in 2000 and they were my idols! Lol best show they every did in my opinion.
Could the mellos play any more notes?? My goodness, Golden Section!
👍👍
Cavaliers just crushed it on Finals night and Cadets had their worst run in weeks from what I’ve been told. I think Cadets had the better show, they just didn’t execute as well as they could’ve and Cavies just knocked it out of the park. Cavies jumped a whole point in GE from Semi’s to Finals whereas Cadets only improved by .2 and that’s what really made the difference. I’m surprised Cadets won music kind of handily and got the Ott because they didn’t sound good to me at all in that Finals tape (at least Brass, I’m not a percussion guy).
The brass judge was on the field in these days. "Best Brass" was largely a measure of technique on an individual level.
Is it something else today?
We were worked pretty hard prior to finals so while Cavies may have "crushed it," we still won Brass. I can only imagine if that WERE our best performance.
First performance was Massillon OH. I was there that night when the horns took their tumble. One of the best openers and for its day was the most impressive drill. These kids were running like Forrest Gump and still playing well.
Man!! the drum line is just out of this world clean.
If there was a show I wished I marched, it would be this.
Got any perc from 01?
Yeah, check the channel. There are literally HOURS.
28:02 rare footage of my brass instructor falling 😂
I see we have a common reason to watch
Luigi
HAHAHAHA Mike Terry. I laughed at him at the end of that show (I lowkey almost fell too).
Nice!
I REALLY wish you had gotten down to field level for a lot of these rehearsal videos.
There are some killer field-level videos from 1998, 1999, and 2002.
@@cbcsuperfan749 Very true...but 2000 is the year I really wanted to see field level views. Regardless. You'll forever be in my graces for these treasures.
Superfan is the absolute BEST person in the world. 20 years I waited for these videos. Now I can relish in the memories of the crowd going bonkers for us. I miss marching Cadets of this era.
Paul is the best.
