At first, I was thinking "why would I care about why kids wear special kimono when turning?" Decided to give it a try and couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire video. Hinata is super cute and full of energy, not to mention incredibly smart for a 3 year old. Then you add Nagi into the mix and it's just too much. But, by the end of shrine day you could tell Hinata was tired. Great vid!
I am not Japanese but I participated in this holiday when I was a young girl. My family lived in Japan back in the 70's. I still have the photo of me in a kimono. This event was one of the best meomories of my childhood.
I didn't know that there are different types like typical antique and a western kimono. Western Kimono is new for me. Thanks to you and your family for showing us such a cute tradition
My cousin (who's half Japanese and lives in Japan) turned three last year and we got a bunch of pictures of her in an adorable kimono! She looked so precious and I keep the picture pinned up on my wall :)
My son will be turning 3 in 2022. He is currently with my wife in Japan. Hopefully I am able to visit during Shichigosan as I am really looking forward to experiencing it as he does it. :D Loved being able to see your daughter's celebration of it. Soooo cute.
Oh my goodness, the cuteness overload! I smiled so many times watching this and so did my 3 year old son. He says Hinata is "sooo cuuuute!" Thank you for sharing this special moment with us!
Very interesting! And your daughter is soo cute! Congratulations!! Here in Mexico, we also celebrate children when they turn three years old! I beleive it's for the same original reason (child death rates back in the day). A ceremony is held at church according to catholic tradition, children are dressed all in white, and sometimes there is a party afterwards!
I was in a foul mood, but then I watched this video. It was so cute. You have a beautiful family Shogo, congratulations to Hinata for her Shichigosan! It was also amazing seeing these strange customs, I loved it.
I don't want to be a parent personally but I adore seeing parents and their children get along and I'm sure the little darling felt like royalty that day!
Hinata is such a sweetheart !!!! I want to see more of these family vlogs. These videos really give us a sense of Japan. And we also just love you and family!!!❤️
Your daughter must have felt so special! It was smiles all around. Thank you so much for sharing such an intimate part if ur families life experiences.
Those photographs were amazing and your daughter is adorable. She seems really sweet-natured. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes look at the 3-year-old's special celebration. Very interesting.
That's such a great way to create photos of a happy age and family memories. Wish the West would the same as they are way better pictures than school portraits. Really special and nice. Can see the girls really like to be a princess for the day. 😎
The prayer for traffic safety, reminds me how my friend partially witnessed a fatal bicycle crash (as in a bicyclist ran into a pedestrian) when she went to Nagoya. Obviously was not her only experience, but I remember that was shocking to hear. (Just want to add this was around 2011) On a more positive note, I only recently discovered your channel (this past month) and I love your gentle, and open methods in teaching about your culture. I remember learning some things in high school (we had a Japanese culture club) and one thing I regretted was not being able to go with my classmates to a two week trip to Japan because of summer school. So in a way, this is one of the channels that gives me a natural perspective. Thank you, and much luck to your 1,000,000 sub goal. And best wishes to your lovely family.
This is so magical!!! Hinata has the biggest laughs!! And Nagi is such a happy baby!! Your family is so beautiful and you have so much love! It’s so nice to see you all have fun and celebrate Hinata’s 3rd year! Congratulations all! I wish we had more celebrations for children in the U.K. here people seem to see children as a nuisance :( and then wonder why they behave like outcasts as teens… every day with my children is a blessing. Especially the hard days! That’s when we learn patience and negotiation skills! Thank you so much for sharing!
Hinata-chan kawaii! She reminds me of my daughter (4). This is such a fun yet bittersweet tradition. I have been fascinated by Japanese culture and language for over 2 decades and I am so thankful to have found your channel. ありがとうございました。
Such an adorable child! Wish you health Hinata! You're lucky she didn't throw a tantrum, I remember how many kids of that age end up feeling grumpy at the day and cry a lot and all the parents' plans are unfortunately canceled!
Your family are super cute! I also loved your wife's elegant kimono with the parasols on it. Hinata-chan's kimono choices were super, and the staff there seemed really great the their jobs - as evidenced by the fantastic photos you got. Thank you for sharing this special occasion with us! おめでとうございます ひなた-ちゃん!
Thanks so much, Shogo-san, for your consistent content and giving us peeks into your life in Kyoto. I'm always overwhelmed by a sense of natsukashii every time I watch one of your videos as they remind me of the time I lived in Japan. Sending love and gratitude, to you and your family, from Australia. ♡
That shop did an amazing job. The photos came out amazing, I hope everything went the way you guys were hoping because the video made everything so cute.
Your wife has skills with the bow while your oldest daughter has skills as a model. You must be a blessed man Shogo! And yes, I do photography so I can see her being a model someday. She sure has the skills and smile for it.
Cuteness overload - both of your babies! Would love to see a video someday on child raising. I have always been amazed how well behaved Japanese children are out in public, restaurants, etc.

I came to make a joke about kindergarten graduations.
When she started walking in the shoes and her itty bitty steps with the little clack noise happened, I melted!!!!! How adorable I cant stand it
Such a positive and happy man. Keep spreading your positivity and knowledge of Japanese culture.

I admire the positive reinforcement of your daughter for being quiet, and then letting her choose her own candy.
