- Such a sad scene 😭
Set after the events of the film (The Suicide Squad), the series follows jingoistic killer Christopher Smith / Peacemaker as he joins "Project Butterfly", a black ops squad that targets extra-terrestrial parasitic butterfly-like creatures.

Who knew John Cena had this level of range. He's a great actor and I never thought I'd say that. This scene is beautiful
Exactly! He did a great job in this scene
also thanks to James Gunn
No one simply becomes almost everyone's fav wwe wrestler...
I cry almost every time I watch it
Awesome-ly
"Peacemaker...What a joke. " 😭
😭
At first I thought maybe that was his brother
@@steviefranchize21 you need to watch 2021 the suicide squad if you wanna know who that is
@@GetemNewellRules I was gonna start peace maker and got on HBO and watched the new suicide squad just to watch this show and as to not spoil anything before I did and I was glad I did. Wouldn’t have had the same impact without the movie.
Rick flag death definitively traumatized Smith, he was like a hero for him... Nice touch for the scene to get more emotional and dramatic
I’m so glad they highlighted that. My primary concern with this show being announced is that Peacemaker ended his run in The Suicide Squad coming off like a borderline villain, prepared to even sacrifice Cleo to keep the info from getting out. I was worried that Flag’s death would end up being undermined. I’m glad it clearly had an affect on him & it really made this scene hit harder along with seeing his sad childhood.
@@Linator4 peacemaker clearly didn’t want to have to kill flag, someone he thought so highly of but it seems like people act otherwise. He pleaded with flag, practically begged flag to give him the drive. If peacemaker had it his way they both would have walked out of there alive. Flag wanted this fight, not peacemaker. Peacemaker had a bomb in his head and a mission, he had to try to keep that information from getting out. And flag would have killed peacemaker, he almost did, if that piece of debris wasn’t in arms reach, peacemaker would have been dead in a matter of seconds. It was survival. Peacemaker was not the bad guy for that, neither were, they were both put into a shit situation. It’s tragic.
@@Jackholiday1025 Oh no doubt, I definitely understood both sides of the argument when it came to Project Starfish & Cena’s facial expressions during the entire scenario showed that he was completely heartbroken having to kill a US Colonel.
Flag had enough of Waller’s BS & Smith wanted to make the greater sacrifice by covering it up so the public doesn’t feel hopeless, sorta like Batman & Gordon’s plan with Two-Face at the end of The Dark Knight.
I feel the thing is that the whole Peacemaker identity is Chris' way of saying, “I’m not who my father wanted me to be. I’m not a murderer. I’m a killer, but I kill for a cause, and only people who deserve it.” Flag's death showed him that after all those years he’s still the same murderer - who he tried to be is just a lie he tells himself. “Peacemaker. What a joke.”
@@DiGreatDestroyer God that is such a perfect way of phrasing it
It’s incredible the wake-up that killing Rick Flag gave Peacemaker. I genuinely wasn’t expecting him to have such remorse and agony over it.
You can tell that Peacemaker really admired Flagg, and killing him broke something inside of him.
Because flag and him were similar but peacemaker abandoned his morals for ideology based on his brother death
Powerful scene indeed. Didn't know Cena had it in him.
Honestly! He’s really talented tbh
This scene made me cry actually. John Cena is incredible.
No FR because I literally got so emotional after watching this scene too.
Same.
Samsies. Solidarity
This scene made me ball when he started thinking about the memories of his brother. Holy shit this episode and s1 E11 of doom patrol absolutely killed me
@@spiton it was the brother dying part that got me.
James Gunn certainly knows how to pick a song for the scene - this scene combined with the music spoke a thousand words
Peacemaker got more development in this one scene than half the dceu
Just the way he hugs that photo like a lifeline 😭. John Cena is full of surprises.
Most emotional scene of any DCEU property. John is a LEGEND
Ha! John legend
Maybe Cena was always in pain, but we just didn’t see it. We’re sorry Cena
It's possible. Now I feel like crap about booing him in his Wwe days.
Travesty TV 😆
pun intended?
Brilliantly underrated comment 🤣🤣🤣
Watching this for the 100th time and the impact is still the same. Damn.
So true. I get emotional every time
Unlike Homelander, Peacemaker at least tries to be a hero and actually regrets the heinous actions he's committed, the fact he dosen't have any powers also separates him from Homelander. Not to mention if Peacemaker met Homelander, he'd hate the guy.
Any superhero would hate Homelander, the dude is a murder and a rapist.
@@ReaperBeale While Peacemaker behind all that bravado is a really a broken man who's learning the difference between right and wrong the longer he lives. I guess his journey to being a hero is because he's lived long enough to see himself become the villain.
@@ReaperBeale homelander isn't rapist. Whatever happened between Becca and Him happened with her consent
I think the difference is that Homelander is definitely a psychopath, or sociopath. Whereas Peacemaker has genuine empathy and regret for his actions.
@@ElizabethJRekab Indeed. Peacemaker's issues have more to do with him trying to find a purpose in the world while hoping to turn that trauma into motivation.
Wife hadn’t been watching Peacemaker. But walked in during this scene and just said “Damn, had no idea Cena could act”
These are the kinds of scenes that separate James Gunn projects from other directors. I laughed harder at some of the jokes in this show than I’ve laughed at anything in a while but cried harder during scenes like this.
This scene was genuinely heart wrenching. Gunn, once again shows his masterful talent of being witty, hilarious, yet very deep and sad.
Also, major props to Cena for his range. He portrayed his internal torment perfectly and without a single line of spoken dialogue. Truly a underrated show and lead actor.
Right on!
that is the magic of the right direction, when not everything is batman or superman, even the most old-fashioned comic book heroes and villains have their moments of brilliance and charisma
@Zach Arb Oh! Good to know! Yes, both deserve credit for their excellence.
@Zach Arb he wrote every episode, jody hill directed it, yes, but gunn wrote the scene
@Zach Arb Jody hill is a man
Flash- shouldn't we ...ya know...arrest him
Batman shakes head- I have a feeling him just being him is punishment enough
They’ve probably had that conversation. Peacemaker put kite man in Jain and I’m assuming Batman knows kiteman as he’s a Batman villain in the comics.
This series is the greatest thing to come out of the DC universe.
yeah the DCEU was just slop to make the shareholders happy, almost none of them brought any real value
This song is a masterpiece.. made us emotional
What an incredible scene. Such an interesting insight into the pains peacemaker carries, and how he can use things like music to cope with them.
Even Goff had to roll over and check on Peacemaker with Eagly😭 Poor Chris man
His father doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear.
Like a machine...
@@mattragusa210 I mean he was T-1000 after all 😝
And I thought the joker was a sociopath.
I remember watching the suicide squad and loving John Cena in that, mainly because it’s John Cena and he’s playing an over the top character but in peacemaker he’s brilliant, he’s got a shocking amount of range and I wouldn’t be surprised if we started seeing him pop up in more things. Never would have thought that John Cena could pull off a scene like this
Yes very true! I absolutely loved him in The Suicide Squad and he’s amazing in the peacemaker series too
These are the type of scenes missing from Marvel films.
These are the types of scenes missing from A LOT of films unfortunately
You do remember James Gunn made Marvel films right?
@@parkerboy795 uh yeah? Obviously I’m talking about the other Marvel films
@@KevinElMejor93 You said Marvel films though. That kind of implied all or them. And even then, a good chunk if them do have moments like this.
Here’s hoping Guardians 3 will finally wake them up
I love how in this scene Chris is wearing a 'Faster Pussycat' T-shirt. Which is the band that wrote the song in the background of this scene.
Still have Wake me when it's over on vinyl.
I still wonder why the butterfly rolled up to Peacemaker, but part of me thinks it felt a bit of sympathy for him.
It was also high
@@DLo305 judo master said they're not what you think.
I think that Goff got attached to Peacemaker
We were right!
Of course he does. The butterfly want peacemaker as his ally
There is a lot to this scene, the music itself is a reflection of his relationship with his dad, we see the pain he has about what his dad made him do, killing his brother, killing flag. We see all that coming together and showing that this guy is not a born Villain he was made that way. Not only that but showing the butterfly roll to him could have meaning, no so sure after that last episode though.
This is the real turning point of the series I think. It shows the trauma Christopher Smith endured as a child at the hands of his father, and it also shows the terrible choices he made up to this point as a result of that trauma. Him breaking down is him realizing how screwed up he’s become. And it makes his choice to kill the cow in the finale all the more impactful as it wasn’t the choice he would have made without this entire arc.
I know it's acting, but I have actually lived this song word for word. I still waiting for my dad even know he's been dead for over 12 years. But a boy nevers gives up hope, u know.
Peacemaker rocking out in his trailer to faster pussycat and taking bong rips is definitely a mood.
When the butterfly rolled up in the jar I fell apart
Hey show some respect. That butterfly has a name
Rick Flag died so Peacemaker (the TV show) could live.
My wife laughed her ass off when she saw this scene and said "hey its you every Friday night"
Lol
Damn
You okay man 😳
@@GLAPostalService1personally speaking I can confirm that I am not okay
(I'm peacemaker)
Love James’ direction with having both Flag’s death and Keith’s (his brother) death mirror both of each other in a way.
Both deaths were caused by actions that weren’t intended but still resulted in their death, and then being shunned by others because of their deaths.
despite what everyone thinks, I don’t think he killed his brother. I believe he watched it happen too scared or something and his dad blames him for it but I don’t think peacemaker killed him
I personally think they had an argument or something and Peacemaker pushed his brother which caused him to accidentally fall and break his neck or something
I think the father forced them to fight
@@alexq8717 I believe the same.
I think the guy that peacemaker stabbed With a knife killed his brother
L
This scene is what made me truly love this show and peacemaker as a character. Every word in the lyrics was exactly what he went trough as a kid.
"Wasn't I worth the time?
A boy needs a daddy like a dance to mime and all the time
I looked up to you." everything peacemaker has been trough as a kid and still as an adult looks up to his father. Brilliant writing from James gunn.
John Cena really flexed his acting muscles with this one. Bravo
Never thought id see John cena smoking out of a bong 🤣
I swear if this doesn't get him an Emmy idk what will
i see why now that he cherishes this music him and his brother would sit and jam out to this music and thats why he stole all them albums from crazy chick in beggining episode
I used to really dislike Cena. Crazy to think that. Dude hella won me over the past couple years
My favorite tv show scene of all time, so fucking moving man
Cena deserves an award for this show. It's astounding.
This show is fuckin awesome man. One second you'll be laughing your ass off and the next you'll be balling like a baby. Def wasn't expecting it to be this good. I have all new respect for Cena
Man, I sometimes forget just how good an actor John Cena really is. This scene was hard on the heart.
I’ve forgiven Peacemaker for killing Rick Flag. You can tell he’s really remorseful, he misses him even.
Sometimes you just need some good tunes and a good cry
Exactly
Dont forget the bong though - brings out the feels even more!
Peacemaker...what a joke
Very powerful scene! I'm so glad John Cena finally found the role made for him! Absolutely amazing series!
I also love how they threw in Rick Flag's "Peacemaker... What a joke..." It just goes to show you that even Peacemaker sometimes thinks he is a joke himself.. I also love the character development and the in depth background of Peacemaker in this series.
I love all the references they make to DC comics and characters
Rick got him in the end, but differently. PM killed his body, but Rick killed PM's beliefs.
Honestly it's great that they put bands like Faster Pussycat, Firehouse, Cinderella, Hanoi Rocks in it.
James Gunn certainly knows how to pick a song for the scene - this scene combined with the music spoke a thousand words
I felt this scene way too much
There’s nothing wrong with having a different perspective! :)
I love films that take on the emotional aspect and make you feel the same loss well done to the director and cena he’s smashing it man
Cena nailed this. Cuz it’s relatable. We’ve all had those moments of trying to block out those deep dark guilty feelings or feelings of shame or loss or just plain depression, and try as we might with watever distraction like substance abuse…..they still come back. Fuck man
Peak cinema
Agreed
Didn't know Cena had it in him for this kinda acting. Dude got me in my feels.
0:50 that really hit me
Unlike the scene where Peacemaker cries where it's mostly played for laughs, this is the real scene where that emotional is carried and shown.
Still rewatching this scene.
56 yrs old and crying!😭
My dad left when I was 11. Good tune.
I see a correlation between Peacmaker and Gamora from Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Both fathers were manipulatively cruel in pitting the siblings against each other to create a monster in one while the other is discarded as trash. It's an evil practice handed down from antiquity in evil bloodlines. I think it's no coincidence that Peacemakers emblem on his chest is an inverted pentagon. He has been branded by that evil trauma. This scene is amazing. Much respect for Cena and Gunn.
Peacemaker
R.I.P My Brother 💔 🕊️ 🕊️ 🕊️
I'm in the UK so only just got round to finishing this series. Cena really impressed in his performance and James Gunn shows us once again why he's a great director and writer.
New found respect for Cena from this show he is so fucking good in this role
This is like the ratcatcher scene, absolute masterpiece from james gunn.
such an incredible well directed scene
Oh my God this scene ruined me 😭
Same 😭
Same
man john cena shouldve been a bigger star than the rock. hes got more range
this scene gives me a true existential dilemma, peace and justice is a fictional invention of the human being in an absurd massacre, or are we the only species aware of perceiving it as an abstract, transcendental and eternal concept that we could only understand after dying , life is a war and the only peace is through death, in this house of pain
Who else agrees, Peacemaker's dad looked creepy af during that flashback?
And I thought the joker lacked empathy.
This show is a good balance of action, comedy, and drama.
Every time a Snyder Cultist shows a funny out of context clip of the show to demonize it, show them this and if they block you from Twitter then you win.
This song is so freaking good
Though the show is really fun to watch, it can be really emotional to watch 😭
While the rock been playing the same freaking role in every damn movie his in. Tough samoan guy with no weakness. 😑
The thug on mic actually have more range and not afraid to let himself look vulnerable.
Cena gonna go far.
New found respect for the guy.
I had to repeat this scene several times, its perfection. John Cena is an awesome actor.
Greatest scene in this fucking show🧜♂️
After Gotg3 and this, I'm happy Gunn is behind DC movies. He has this talent of finding the perfect equilibrium between serious and heavy subjects and comedy. He is the perfect blend of grittiness and campiness, which is something a lot of superhero movies can't find a way to balance
I feel like this is the perfect scene to sum up to the show, it’s hilarious but it’s also so sad at the same time
This show is pretty good, very surprised. Cena is killing it.
I’ve watched many series, with many tear-jerks/heart-wrenchers. This is one one the best, most tragic amongst all of them. Pure emotional gold. 💛
John Cena has also granted sick kids the most make a wish foundation wishes of any celebrity. By far. Over 650. He’s truly a real life super hero to me 🦸♂️
James Gunn certainly knows how to pick a song for the scene - this scene combined with the music spoke a thousand words
@@mikespike2099 James Gunn also knows how to pick the right individual to play Peacemaker... John Cena is indeed a good actor also a real life Superhero for helping make dreams come true for medically challenged children.
This scene had me crying, reminds me of my big brother
The butterfly rolling towards him kills me! :D :D :D
I know 😭
Wow this scene is powerful
It really is though
Never watch this series but damn after seeing this scene iam intrigued
It’s definitely worth a watch! It’s such a great DC show!
This is the second time that peacemaker thought about Rick flag and “pacemaker what a joke” does peacemaker feel regret for killing flag or does he just feel like what Rick flag said was true ?
Maybe it’s both!
He called Rick Flag a hero, so it must've messed him up even if he thought it was the right thing to do at the time.
He’s been remorseful and regretful over that situation. Exhibit this scene and the crying scene he knows he made the wrong move
Something I caught was how the eagle looks at peacemaker and kinda gives him a “ wtf ? “ look as he starts to hug the picture and cry , then eagly walks away while the butterfly stayed and seemed worried about peacemaker . Could this be a foreshadowing moment where it represents basically what peace and freedom is ? Like how there’s no room for all that emotional shit , while the butterfly knows compassion and maybe even love ? Idk I might be on a stretch here
Woah! Nice attention to detail!
Nah, in the 5th ep, Eagly actually felt that Smith was sad and tried to make him happy by bringing him a squirrel.
I think your definitely onto something with the Butterflies being naturally peaceful creatures. After ep 5, it's clear Murn is one of them, but I think he has been the whole time and is working against the infected butterflies. Even though it looked like he attacked Adebayo at the end, I wouldn't doubt if it's a misdirect and instead he'll tell her everything, which will further complicate Adebayo and how she's secretly working for Waller (her mom), who we know is up to know good and is always hiding shit.
Those are just my rambling theories. There's a big twist coming for sure, and I hope it's soon.
The more important questions here are - How high were you when you posted this and where can I get some?
even though i can’t see him…Cena can act
This scene is genuinely beautiful
No superhero character does have the right to be played, written and directed. this good. I am in tears. I wan more
0:52 Peacemaker, What a joke!
Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) - TSS (2021).
I can't believe that this would happened on TSS from 2021. And after killing Rick Flag, Peacemaker had a late regret for what he do at His own TV show. The colonel Kinnaman doesn't deserved to die by hands of a supossed Hero.
Really sad scene
Wow beautiful scene. Me and my girlfriend both had our mouths wide open in shock at how emotional we felt toward this character. Thanks, pure art.
when i first watched THE suicide squad, i hated peacemaker because he killed rick flag..
but after watching this series, i would like to say, he is probably my favourite character in the dc universe.
Truthfully, Peacemaker didn’t want to fight. Flag did. There was no scenario where both could live, only one could survive, and it was Chris.
i love how even just existing his muscles are pumped god dam talk about gains
the rick flag callback hit really hard
Scene introduced me to the song. So good
It’s interesting how the “butterfly” went towards him when he fell. I get the feeling that maybe they aren’t really that bad? Anyways, loving the show!
Edit: They’re bad😆 RIP Murn🦋
Yes, I think that Goff got attached to Peacemaker
I think he was just trying to get into his mouth. Either that or it was just high.
this is actually true now
@@nivoko1297 you were right
I did like how Eagley and Goff came over to check on him when he fell to the floor, it was a sweet touch.
Gives me chills. Every time.
The song House Of Pain....I love it
