Love wagons, it's why I own one. This, in the Sport Turismo trim, of course, was my dream electric car for a long time until I found out about its many flaws. The wannabe crossover cladding ruins the shape for me. Now I'd pick a Lucid Air, preferably in wagon shape.

For EV range, I completely ignore the EPA numbers and exclusively use the Edmund's real world leaderboard. The Taycan 4S currently ranks #19 on that list at 323 real world miles. For comparison, the best ranked Tesla is the Model S Plaid at 345 real world miles. They're basically the same.... (because Porsche under-promises and because Tesla is, well, Tesla).

I too agree that all of the screens are insane, and I think in addition to manufacturers trying to make cars more “futuristic”, I think it’s about cost savings. Manufacturers can just jam everything into the UI of a screen via software, instead of dealing with the cost to producing bespoke physical buttons and other physical parts. Now their only cost is the tablet and the development of the software. As someone who lives in a city and hasn’t owned a car in many years, it makes me sad that the industry has been trending this way, and likely the next car I own will be all screens by time I get around to buying one.

If you don't love the haptic touch and that many screens, you do get some physical buttons with essentially the same chassis and the same two-speed transmission and drivetrain. If you could get ahold of one and try it out...I think you'd like it more than this.

Test drove one of these extensively. As a commuter and highway car, it's excellent. However, as soon as you show it a twisty road, the weight ensures it feels nothing like a Porsche should. It was particularly bad on a downhill twisty section...all at sea unfortunately. Also, it's the first car from Porsche I have driven where the brakes didn't feel up to the task. You can honestly just say bye to regular buttons. The use of screens probably enables for much more streamlined scaling of production for Porsche. Screens are more cost efficient than making, producing and inputting physical buttons which all most likely have different departments and development teams. Their bottom line is probably dramatically decreased by using all touchscreens. If they put buttons in their vehicles (right now at least), it may cost 5-10k more for each vehicle in their line up. Once they find out to reduce other costs( basically the batteries) then they might/could consider physical buttons. That’s the reality of the industry and tbh I think in 10-15 when I’m gonna be ready to purchase a Porsche/german EV performance sedan/wagon, I think it’ll be perfected or at least bearable.
Im a Lexus guy, I don’t like it either. But I’ve had LOTS of time in a Rivian R1T (2000+ miles now) and I can say, it gets better once you’re used it to and its not as bad if the software is good enough. That’s where the future of the industry is headed anyway: who has the best software (and the biggest budget for it)

The front end of a saturn, the middle is a bad chevy and the rear is a mercury. Easily the most disjointed and unattractive vehicle porsche has ever produced

"Charging is a nightmare of an experience"
"Charging is a sad reality of EV ownership"
...says the non-EV owner??? I don't think you have enough experience to make a good informed decision. Change is hard and most people don't like change. But industries shift and you gotta just get used to it.

I’ve spent thousands of miles in Evs. That’s why I don’t own one.

Yes let’s all get used to batteries that deteriorate extremely fast. Charging times that take forever. Limited range that can’t take you anywhere far without stressing. Charging is a nightmare. Half the stations barely work. Batteries suck and that’s just it. Until manufacturers figure out a way to make fuel cells non expensive and work well EV’s will never get a chance to fully prosper.
