'meaning' is an intrinsically subjective concept. Claiming that we don't matter doesn't really make sense. You can't apply a subjective concept to a material object. By definition of how we conceptualize the term, we do matter because 'mattering' just means to have an emotional impact on other conscious beings.

@@cupcakemcsparklebutt9051 well. Idk if you familiar with nihilism, but it’s basically the belief in nothing. That nothing has any inherent value or meaning, and whichever meaning and value is apparent is only due to that which you bestow upon it. The same reason why your mom has more value than any other mom, it is the importance YOU place upon her, but to anybody else, she’s just another person in the world. Therefore, people and objects’ value are completely subjective. Now, optimistic nihilism is where you look at the meaningless despair and the nothingness of suffering in the world, and turn it into a positive sentiment. If nothing matters, than I can do what I want! If at the end of the day, I’m meaningless, I don’t matter to anybody outside of which they place importance on me, I shouldn’t be so nervous, or so anxious all the time. Many people use this sentiment to get themselves out of pessimism and motivate themselves to do stuff that they otherwise wouldn’t, because, what the hell? Who cares, that’s why!

As someone who studied philosophy beyond the first semester course that every college person does - I think the number one thing that I wish people would know about nihilism is that it is a transitory state. It is what happens when your worldview crumbles because you find it untenable, but before you have built up your new worldview. That is probably what is most misunderstood about it.
Take Jim here. This is him not long after a loved one committed suicide and the family sued him for it. His world has crashed. He is lost, and the things that held value seem meaningless. But he is in the process of dealing with the loss and with searching for a stronger more resilient world view that he can hold.
To anyone who has never experienced such an existential crises I am glad, but I ask that you look at people in a place of nihilism with empathy, because they are hurting, and could use a solid touch stone. Help out a fellow human. And while they may not end up with the same world view as you, if you show empathy I guarantee they will respect your world view much more when they finally build their new one.

Indeed. I think nihilism is misunderstood. Or the implications of nihilism are misunderstood. Nothing matters, and that is fine and good and as it should be. We create meaning for ourselves, we are here to enjoy life and be happy as best we can. Nothing matters, so why would you conform to the boring things others expect of you? In the end nothing matters, so go ahead and live while you still can, while things still "mean" something to your corporeal form. Go pursue your dreams and do the things you love.

My "short" youtube comment opinion: If we were never exposed to our culture we'd be content with much less, we may have even gained fulfillment by something as simple as farming and raising our families in small communities. That as we get exposed to more things within society the expectations rise and the requirements for that same level of contentment (and how to achieve and maintain it) changes, becomes more complex, and may even become unobtainable. We can no longer live without power, running water, internet, cars, etc. The "requirements" for happiness become more and more demanding as we're exposed to more things, that the more privileged we are the more we need to be happy.
Just ask yourself, why are suicide rates still high in societies with less hardship? Probably because happiness and "goals" are relative. You're always going to want more than you already have and at some point you can't really get any "more" (or may not even know where to look for it). I expect that's why people find fulfillment in video games, movies, or books- within the confines of another "universe" you can still find goals that suit your needs.
Natural forms of contentment/fulfillment are now commonly replaced with things like seeking wealth and social approval/hierarchy. Some people may strive in this environment, probably for the sake of the "race" itself rather than the destination, while others seem to realize that they've climbed the hierarchy for decades and that there is no real destination. That the respect they're actually earning is all hollow and self-serving, that the people they surround themselves with don't actually love them and are just using them.
On to the point- I notice a lot of older comedians are hiding sadness like Carey (I guess it's a bit of a trope now). After a certain point of "bringing happiness" to others they probably realize that, at best, people just see them as a clown made for entertainment.

Truth does not have intrinsic value either ( although some epistemologists would argue otherwise), but I nevertheless "ascribe" value to truth as Carrey does and as most of us do which is fine. He's just merely pointing out the intrinsic meaninglessness of existence but ultimately comes to what I interpret to be an absurdist (based on the Philosophy of Albert Camus) approach; he acknowledges the existential responsibilities we have and does not choose to fall into a crisis but rather to directly and responsibly generate meaning in the present.

He is talking about Hermeticism, the knowledge of the true meaning and origin of the Universe. This knowledge was passed to us from over 4000 years ago. Every great civilization knew it, and hid it from their populations. This man is wide awake, and it's very different from Nihilism. We don't matter because we are the universes creator, experiencing its creation. All of us are chunks of the same spirit and will be reunited with our source after death. There is no devil, just the creator. There are no souls, only the creator (in us). That is not to say life is not worth living, just that celebrity worship is ultimately meaningless. There is one soul in the universe. The devil is really our mortality, primal instincts, and carnal mind. Read the Kybalion by The Three Initiates if you want to know what he is talking about! It's a very short and amazing book. Why in the living hell would anybody spend their time watching or caring about what movie actors do outside of work hours or the screen? They're fucking average people doing an average difficulty job. Would you watch a tv show about what your McDonald's cashier did after work? It's nothing but an intentional waste of time and misguidance away from truth, and a perversion of reality. Jim was simply pointing that out.

I don’t believe this is the case. That’s modern spirituality. It promotes the belief of unity and that there’s no separate souls and individuals.
I believe there’s an impotent God and God created every individual soul separately and uniquely and allowed it to have its own free will to be who it wants to be. We are all unique and our own individuals separate and unique from each. I believe that’s how God created us.
Im a Muslim and we Muslims believe in the God of Abraham and Adam and Muhammed and jesus and Moses PBUT.
No human has the same finger print. I believe It’s a sign from our creator to show us we are all unique and no one is like the other.
      1 ≠ 2 .
And no soul is the same as the other.
And God is the one above all. Ultimately unique and separate from us. God doesn’t share resemblance to anyone and God has no equals. And I believe God is the creator of everyone and everything.
I believe modern spiritualism is just a trap to misguide people using spiritual concept and confuse them.
I believe In the God of Abraham. I’m a Muslim. And we believe in God and love God and we love the messengers and prophets that God sent for us.
