PMJ is primarily a touring show that happens to be on tour at this moment, go see them if they are in your area. These vids are basically just their show filmed on a single camera during their off time between shows. Rare talent
If you're asking about PMJ, I would recommend Morgan James covering Dream On. Since there are always different performers and different band members, PMJ is much more fluid than most groups. Haley has done several songs with PMJ which I see noted in other comments. All excellent as is her solo work.
Haley Reinhart is the most-viewed vocalist to have performed with Postmodern Jukebox, which is a creation of Scott Bradlee--the piano player--who does the arrangements. The first video she did with them is "Habits." Something unusual about the video is the drummer is upfront. It was filmed in a bar setting inside an ad agency in Los Angeles. Bradlee had recently relocated there from NYC. Traditionally, PMJ videos were recorded in the living room of his apartment. After PMJ became successful, he bought a Hollywood producer's old home and filmed there. He now lives on a farm in Iowa or Nebraska.
Sp agree with you on this one Cole. She's giving me the old style Chanteuse feel. Like we should be in a speak easy from the 20's and the addition of the scat was brilliant. Really loved this and your reaction. EOVC as always!!!
Love Postmodern Jukebox. I found them about 5 years ago. They have introduced me to so many artists and so many different musical styles. Thanks, Cole, for reacting to this one. One of my favorite arrangements/renditions of "Creep". There are a couple of Postmodern Jukebox featuring Morgan James that are out of this world. I will have to find them and send you the links. eov
Morgan James's view counts are not in Haley Reinhart's league. Haley is by far the best vocalist to have ever performed with PMJ. In fact, PMJ didn't really take off until after Haley began touring with them.
I remember watching Haley Reinhart on "American Idol" back in 2011 (she placed 3rd). Loved her sultry voice & it really suits her doing this old style of singing with Postmodern Jukebox. This is a great cover of "Creep".
The only reason why Haley didn't win American Idol in 2011 is because American Idol permitted almost unlimited power-voting. Had American Idol only permitted one vote per individual voting and in which is the correct way to do a music contest, Haley would have won American Idol hands down. As she was by far the most talented contestant on the show that season.
I have always liked Haley and I absolutely love her performances with PMJ. I like the style of jazz this brings to mind too. Haley has such a powerful voice and magnificent range - I like her voice enough to have some of her albums! Casey Abrams shows up in a few of these videos too. Thanks, Cole!
Kathy here - just found your channel and to see this one come up was a treat! I have watched it/heard it so many times and love it. She should have won on American Idol in my opinion. If you want to see another version of Creep, you should watch Brian Justin Crum, his performance on America's Got Talent. His was chilling and stripped down, but his vocals are amazing. But Haley, can she hold a note or what!! As a singer myself (in a band for 15 years) I know what kind of breath control it takes to sing like that. I "retired" in 1994 at the age of 40 because I was preggers, and it didn't look good in spandex! I'm now 68 years old and still get up and sing every now and then. This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of getting up and singing Proud Mary by Tina Turner, in tribute to her passing. But I have such a great appreciation for singers like Haley. Thanks for your reaction and glad I found your channel.
Haley also sings Seven Nation Army, Black Hole Sun, Oops I Did it Again, Love Fool and a few others whose titles escape my mind at the moment. All About that Bass with Ariana Savalas (Kojak actor Telly Savalas's daughter) and Morgan James is excellent PMJ cover as well. Also, Mad World with sad clown Puddles Pity Party is a fun one as well.
I agree. And her live performances we have seen together have been just as outstanding. Especially when the PMJ crowd lit up their cellphones in unison to follow the beat.
Yup, yup, yup. My subscription a few minutes ago is confirmed. Man, I like your taste of music. I love the original, but I have listened to this cover far more times.
My introduction to PMJ was their arrangement of Meagan Trainor's "All About That Bass" with Haley, Morgan James (Julliard graduate in opera) and Ariana Savalas (Teli's daughter) . Been a huge fan ever since
The drummer IS behind the bassist. All About The Bass was recorded the same day in the same studio. You can se the drummer briefly at the back of the studio, including the iconic wave at near the end of the video.
I've heard her sing this live many times... on this UA-cam/PMJ original many times ... and on other peoples Haley solo concert videos they shot, many times... probably 100 times in total and I still get goose bumps hearing her version freshly each time.!!!!
If you like trombones you have to check out Postmodern's cover of Final Countdown. And yeah, Morgan James' versions of Dream On and Take Me to Church are spectacular.
PMJ is great and the comments section have some fantastic recommendations for more Haley and Morgan James collaborations with PMJ. If you want to dive into another sound and band that I believe you'd enjoy; by the way you described your taste in music just now, The Big Push 🎸would be a great rabbit hole you could dive into. They truly feel like a modern day Beatles😍 and not only fun to listen to, but great to watch because of their fantastic talent and chemistry. They have some wonderful covers but to really appreciate the bands talent you really need to hear their original songs and feel the Britt Pop/Rock vibes. Here's a few of my favorite ORIGINAL tracks by The Big Push: 🔥 The Big Push - Dignity The Big Push - It's Alright The Big Push - Precious The Big Push - Watch Out (LIVE) The Big Push - Why My Woman? The Big Push - Sweet Little Lady (LIVE) The Big Push - Icarus The Big Push - Xbox Marijuana
I think that it's more a lounge singer vibe than Fats Domino style, and if you look at it like that, you may be happier with Haley's choices. It always puts me in mind of the old Peter Gunn TV show in which his girlfriend is the singer at "Mother's". There are several PMJ videos in which the drummer is hidden behind someone, usually the singer. It was something of a running joke.
PMJ now has three singers that have done this song. Two of them have recordings on PMJ's channel. Haley was not feeling well for this recording according to Scott Bradlee. In the following video, Scott talks about PMJ's creation of their version of Creep and how and why Haley did this recording in ONE take. ua-cam.com/video/MskKSH1Kf4U/v-deo.html
Here’s a partial list of singers performing Creep with PMJ : Vonzell Solomon Maia Sykes Effie Passero Casey Abrams Jaclyn McSpadden Karen Marie Haley Reinhart
Obviously anything Haley and Postmodern jukebox touch is midas gold. Some of the better vocalists they have worked with include Morgan James, Miche Braden, and Gunhild carling
well the name of the band is "postmodern" and "jukebox". So, modern inflections in the vocals would fit, no? I think the concept is to take new songs and perform it in an older style but not to do that entirely. It's to meld the styles and add in other styles as well.
I gave you a thumbs up, and I have no problem with your opinions, however I do feel that you misunderstand the idea of "Take a modern song and put it in a classical style". The artistic point of this is to juxtapose the modern with the classic, not make the modern classic, and hence the vocal choices I felt were apropos. Also, the arrangement itself isn't actually vintage as a whole. It's composed of vintage sections but stitched together in a modern way. Personally this is why this is art and just 'making it classic' would be 'an interpretation' and possibly 'not art'. IMNSHO.
This is 100% real jazz singing oh, this is not the phony just singing that Angelina Jordan does. Angelina sing jazz songs but she is nowhere near a jazz singer. Let Haley show you how it's done and how you style vocally for jazz😊
I suggest Seven Nation Army featuring Haley and PMJ. It’s done in a New Orleans style jazz.
I don't know why anyone likes this song, the original or the covers. It's incredibly boring.
Check out Haley and Morgan James covering "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles.
1 Take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PMJ is primarily a touring show that happens to be on tour at this moment, go see them if they are in your area. These vids are basically just their show filmed on a single camera during their off time between shows. Rare talent
Not bad for someone who was feeling bad on the day of this recording.
or a talent show washout lol

Haley Reinhart is JESSICA RABBIT, reincarnated. And the wardrobe only gets MORE Jessica as it goes with her Covers with PMJ. Great Post.

I always felt it was more 20's style.
I love how every vocal coach and singer reacts the same way when she scats.
I remember watching Haley Reinhart on "American Idol" back in 2011 (she placed 3rd). Loved her sultry voice & it really suits her doing this old style of singing with Postmodern Jukebox. This is a great cover of "Creep".

Everything past that key change is like a surprise bonus. Fabulous rendition, shout out to the entire ensemble.

You’re the first reactor, and I’ve seen them all, that picked up on the Fats Domino Blueberry Hill arrangement with the brass instruments. Kudos.
Haley’s favorite band is the Beatles- she learned some of her vocal stylings from Paul McCartney, I can hear it a bit in this song actually
I agree. And her live performances we have seen together have been just as outstanding. Especially when the PMJ crowd lit up their cellphones in unison to follow the beat.
Yup, yup, yup. My subscription a few minutes ago is confirmed.

The drummer IS behind the bassist. All About The Bass was recorded the same day in the same studio. You can se the drummer briefly at the back of the studio, including the iconic wave at near the end of the video.
The drummer is furthest from the camera, directly behind Haley and the bassist.

Loved your reaction! Do watch Morgan James' cover of Dream On....another powerhouse vocalist!
Straight no chaser does a very haunting version of this song that just hits you different. Worth a review
If you like trombones you have to check out Postmodern's cover of Final Countdown. And yeah, Morgan James' versions of Dream On and Take Me to Church are spectacular.
You say 50's but 20's could work too
Morgan James, Dream On is another great song by them!
Try looking at All About That Bass by PMJ
PMJ does mostly Swing style!
Love PMJ!!! You will love their cover of Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk"! 🤠🤠🤠
PMJ is great and the comments section have some fantastic recommendations for more Haley and Morgan James collaborations with PMJ. Today without Haley, PMJ sucks. Not only are their vocalists unattractive, but their vocals are also lacking.
Here’s a partial list of singers performing Creep with PMJ :
Vonzell Solomon
Maia Sykes
Effie Passero

Obviously anything Haley and Postmodern jukebox touch is midas gold. Some of the better vocalists they have worked with include Morgan James, Miche Braden, and Gunhild carling
👍💯🎵💕
I think that this is more 1940s music.

How does Radiohead like having someone else owning the song. Sid better then Radiohead did.

Yeah, Angelina Jordan is nowhere near Haley when it comes to jazz or anything else for that matter. Plus, she is not in the least attractive.
Postmodern jukebox trademark as a gag is to hide the drummer in their videos
It's not a gag. Most of the earlier videos were filmed in Scott Bradlee's living room and their simply was not enough room to show all the musicians.
