nice Radiohead riff! also, it would have been hilarious if you would have looped the unlatching process of the gibson case for a few more seconds!
was that a little Silverchair riff at the end?
😂 I'm stealing that idea and ya Ana'a Song
@@landonbailey I thought so, and that is my Christmas gift to you, good sir!
Congrats on the Les Paul, a special day for sure.
I purchased my very first new Les Paul back in 1977, it was a cherry burst Les Paul Deluxe.
It took me almost a year to pay off the full $575 cost, bringing it home was a pretty big deal to me.
While the blueberry burst wouldn't be my first choice, I gotta admit is looks beautiful.
ua-cam.com/video/VtnaP3bRxug/v-deo.html
I got my iced tea back when they redid the line and they were "only" $2499. It was everything I'd always hoped my Gibson would be when I was finally able to afford one. I have absolutely no regrets. I don't understand all the people who are so vocal about hating Gibson. If they feel that they're overpriced then nobody's obliging them to buy them. But I do know that that 2,499 I spent sure looks a lot better now that there's 1500.00 Epiphone models out there.
I go back and forth on the pick guard. Sometimes i want to see the full body of the guitar, but then it just seems to look better with it.. but eitherway, that is such a beautiful blue.. ive had my eye on the purple 60s model.
The new Les Paul standards are just killer 👍
agree
Even if a Gibson or any other guitar has a blemish it only adds patina, charachter, mojo etc. Enjoy the guitar for the entertainment it brings us and like Landon says play guitar and have fun.
the 2 flaws are that it needs more purple, and that it's not purple enough
Wonderful colour!
Man, for the first time in my life I’ve bought a ES-335. My best ever. I’m in love with that thing. The Marshall JVM 205H sounds angelic with this guitar. ❤
I just picked up a Gibson Les Paul Classic from their Reverb Demo shop for $1,500 shipped (plus tax). It was discounted for being a demo, plus Classic was another $300 being discontinued and another 15% off for pre BF sale. It’s not a flame, but has nice grain. It’s basically a 60’s Standard without PUP covers and added electronics (coil tap, OOP, direct bridge.
Couldn’t pass up that deal. The playability is definitely better than my newer hot rodded Epi LP. Hindsight being 20/20, I should’ve just bought the Gibson first instead of all the time and money I put into the Epiphone. Though, Still a great guitar and I still play it all the time any way.
Leave the pickguard on the color matches the humbucker mounting rings and binding and contrast that killer blue flame maple top. And it sounds as good as it looks
Congrats man, always nice to see people rewarded for their work.
Ding schming ! When you see what folk pay for a Murphy Lab. This is just wear and tear from part of the guitar's journey.
Awesome! Nice guitar, great review, thanks Landon.
I love your videos! Great work!
I'm a Fender/Squier guy. I do have an Epiphone Les Paul Special that I repainted and put humbucker sized P90s in, but if I was gonna go with a full on Les Paul, I'd probably either build one or get a Firefly.
I got a Harley Benton I bought second hand that has Gibson pickups in it and that things awesome and an Epiphone Jr I really like squire telecasters to
😂😂😂Firefly .
@@user-dy3jx7ml3y😂😂 Harley Benton
@@samright4661 Spoken like a man that's never played a Firefly.
Best top I have seen in this color, they are fabulous guitars, thank you Landon great demo
Im 61 now. Many years ago my first guitar I bought was a used Gibson les Paul standard. What a Gloriousness day 😊. Thru the years I've had some really nice ones. 1970 Fender Tele ( 18 it gold hardware) , and even a Les Paul premium years back. It was amazing. But you know I had bills and expenses come up. And I'm sure you all have sold your share too uggh. Wish I could of kept them oh well life happens. Good video as usual buddy. Have a good day 👍💯🎸🎸. Cool Tennessee whiskey licks 😊😊
I love it. I prefer the 50s models, the neck is really comfortable.
Gibson and Fender are dream guitars that until now, were difficult to buy because they were expensive, can only afford a squier or cort 😂
They don't suck at all. I had a goldtop I loved years ago. It's the cost/benefit thing where they fall short.
Nice video! How does this compare to your Ibanez AZ prestige? Which one is your favorite?
These are flaws: Crack on the side of the nut, scratches on the back of headstock and some weird dot next to pick selector?
The A ratings are about how much the finish dances when moved in the light. The "Chatoyant Effect", as Trogley calls it.
Love the Limblifter shirt. I remember seeing them open for David Usher in Charlottetown!
nice! I like their latest album
That's some excellent figure Landon
I bought a 2019 SG standard '61 stop bar that was Demo and Second with Finish Flaw. The finish flaw was a slight halo in the finish around the back strap button. I figure the demo part meant it was used in a video demo because the guitar was clean as brand new and really the best fit and finish of any of the 4 Gibson I've bought.
The guitar doesn't suck. The price does.
Yup. Nobody really thinks Gibsons are bad guitars. It's just CNC guitar production has really leveled the playing field between high end guitars like Gibson and low to mid range guitars and the value you used to pay top dollar for when you bought a Gibson no longer stands out as much.
I've bought multiple demo models from Sweetwater and always been satisfied. I plan to keep looking at the deal zone in the future for some GAS.
Yes, Gibsons are expensive but if I want a handmade guitar still built like it was in the 50’s I have the choice…I love freedom and choice…and that 60’s slim taper neck is the tits👍
GORGEOUS guitar, man! Grats on owning it! Sweetwater is the best!
Got my faded 60’s std for just over 2k. It was a demo with the tiniest little dent on the bottom of the body, and then while getting it packed up to ship my sweetwater rep called me and said they put another little ding in the guitar(which to this day I can’t find) and I had more money taken off. Sweetwater is a great place, and my rep Ed is awesome. Great video man, especially from a Tele guy 😉
Love the LP Standard! My 2014 is the nicest guitar I’ve ever owned, including the PRS I swapped for it. Just sounds amazing. The 2014 comes without a pickguard, I removed the poker chip too.
Rock on!
Gorgeous guitar! Congratulations! I love my Gibsons. Those who ridicule the price of Gibsons should price Collings, Martin, and PRS, among others. Even Heritage, which used to be the affordable alternative to Gibson is in the same ballpark, price-wise. Enjoy that beautiful beast!
I've owned many Gibsons, some of which were fine, some of which were nothing to write home about. I have mixed feelings about Gibson. My favorite Gibson of all time is the SG, but I've never owned one because of the neck dive issue and would probably get a Les Paul Modern Lite if I were to get another. Personally, I prefer PRS, but I go for their SE line which is an excellent value. I also love Yamaha. I've owned more Yamahas and Fenders than any other brands. If you find a nice Gibson and it works for you, keep it. I just find them very inconsistent as a company.
3 things, 1 nice addition of “and so I know” by stp in there, 2 I really like the blueberry burst and 3 I never knew sweet water had a deals section on their web site.
Gibson uses veneer and lots of it...Gibson's semi-hollowbodies like the ES-335 and ES-339 have tops and backs constructed of layers (either 3 or 4) of maple veneer. My understanding is that the veneers are assembled in successive cross-grain layers with the top layer having its grain longitudinal to the length of the guitar. The tops and backs are approximately 1/4" in thickness after layup.
I don't like blueberry burst, but that guitar is making me change my mind. The only people who say Gibson suck are those who don't own one.
Lovely guitar and love the great tones you’re getting out of it. It’s paradoxical that a couple of minor cosmetic flaws turn it into a ‘demo’ guitar but artistically damaging the finish doubles the price. Enjoy your new guitar.
Maybe Trogly could find a blemish there cause I couldnt.
Blue guitars are always better! That one's got a beautiful top. It definitely looks better than the ones I have with AA tops.
I used to think that I thought Gibson Les Pauls were too expensive, but it turns out I just like the SG better. I would always say "I don't see why the Les Paul is so expensive. Why, if I were in the market for a Gibson I could get a comparable SG for something like four hundred dollars less, and have that money in my pocket for pedals or maybe nachos," but this year I saw that Gibson has a new model of Les Paul that is priced more along the lines of a decent mid level guitar and my the first thing I said was "if I'm already going to be putting Gibson level money down on the table to buy a guitar, I may as well put down another three hundred and get one of those really nice SGs." I think the price problem is that by the time I could buy a Gibson my hands were used to thin Ibanez style necks so the LP felt weird, but the SG felt good.
I got my 2020 LP Standard for 2k flat from Sweetwater, by calling my sales guy and asking for a deal, and the only blemish was under the pickguard where the mounting bracket touches the body. lmao, best deal ever now that they are like 3k
How did the blueberry burst taste and did you try the strawberry burst?
Pick guard on or off? If you’ve got a pretty top, then try taking it off.
I’ve got a 2022 Les Paul 60s standard in GC tri-color burst and I love it. pick guard off.
Nice to hear a Silverchair song at the end!!!!!
Stunning guitar mate. Enjoy in good health, worth every penny
i bought this guitar today. :) Meaning the 50s blueberry burst
Love my Strats, Teles, PRS's. Play 'em, gig with 'em, iconic guitars. But, even with all of their flaws, and there ARE some, ( I tune up a lot) a Gibson Les Paul Standard (or Custom) is the top of the guitar pyramid.
Leave the pick guard on. I noticed the wonky nut, but not the line on the back of the headstock. It is purdy. Congrats..
Just watching your Amazon 30inch faux telecaster video on UA-cam and I want to say that I've seen this ax and even considered buying it. But after looking more closely at the description I found that it is listed as a 39 inch guitar. So I chose a faux telecaster model that I'm quite impressed with.
I specifically wanted a 1/2 scale guitar because I'm bedridden and need a smaller instrument for ease of use.
Also Amazon is a great outfit to deal with, they have an excellent return policy and they pay for return shipping. PS contrary to popular belief, Amazon is only a distributor of various products and so can not be held accountable for any product that doesn't match its advertised description.
this is a Les Paul :)
@landonbailey sorry it looks like a tele. Les Paul's have dual hambuckers, not single coil pickups.
PS the faux strat that I bought is an SX brand from China that is a remarkably well-made guitar with no visible flaws except that the nut could have been fitted a little better. Otherwise I can't find anything that I don't like about it.
This les Paul looks like a Telecaster?
That guitar sounds great! Surprised I didn't hear Bending Hectic or The Smoke though.
How many Les Pauls do you think Jonny Greenwood has sold indirectly for Gibson?
@@landonbailey at least 30. Definately has me looking at some again.
*Disclaimer - None of the Case Candy is edible. (Don't learn the hard way.) Light scratches at heel, tooling marks in binding, scuffs by strap buttons or finish cracking at the nut are almost always the answer.
So no problem with Sweetwater shipping to Canada then?
I’ve used Thomann lots but never tried Sweerwater or Sam Ash
if you try to buy it you will have problems. there are distribution restrictions.
A Gibson Les Paul Standard for making a few videos about it. Damn that's a good deal. Makes me wish i was a youtube content creator sponsored by Sweetwater. By the way, I like to take off the pick guard. Let the finish be seen. I really wish Standards used real mother of pearl for the inlays. I know there are some that do, but those are even more than the regular price.
Was that some Pixies I heard? Had nothing but good luck with Sweetwater. Probably the best setups of anywhere I've purchased guitars from. Very pretty Les, Landonius. Enjoy it.
i don't have a Gibson, but in '16 I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra 3... cosmetically it looks like this one, but with an aged cherry burst tint... and that abomination headstock... but it has a chambered body and an acoustic pickup snuck behind the last fret... it is just fire!!! ❤🔥❤🔥
i love the bear-claw figuring on that top! what a prize. Congrats Landon. You deserve it. If you ever want to sell that one hit me up and its a done deal. i am in the comments of a lot of your videos.
I'm not typically into blue guitars, but that's a beauty that I would love to own. Now I have GAS. Thanks a lot.
I have a '88 Custom and there is nothing wrong with it. It's been perfect from day one.
No problem!
I have a LP Standard 60 and It's an awesome axe.. No wonder almost every manufacturer on the planet literally tried to copy them.. Gibson along with Fender pretty much created the industry standards when it comes to solidbody guitars.. The problem is that they are very expensive.. (At Least for the average Joe, musician or not.). It took me a long time before I could afford one.. Also as most of us know, for the money we can get as good if not better guitars for often at least 1200$ less ..That' s probably what triggered the tomato throwing video trend that went on, along with the disastrous disastrous Marketing campaign "Play Authentic".. It has to be one of the worst PR moves ever made in the history of the US manufacturing industry..
Great guitar. So educate me. My understanding is that Sweetwater does not ship to Canada. If so what’s the point?
there are distribution restrictions that prevent certain brands being shipped. I don't know all the limitations. What's the point of what?
@@landonbailey I’ve been wanting to order from Sweetwater but to my dismay I called their customer support and was told sorry we don’t ship to Canada. Then they suggested I get a post office box in upstate NY. I live in the Rideau Lakes Valley. Or pay a broker to expedite my orders. Ok so that negates any “deals” that I think I’m getting. So I might as well order or shop at Long & McQuade. I guess that’s my point.
@@landonbailey btw. Great videos. Been a fan for a long time.
An airbag saved my wallet. I feel the same about Epiphone… never had any tuning issues. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.
Love the Blueberry burst .. 🤘
At 17:18 i see what looks like a vertical scratch?
just the lighting
No Les Paul and Epiphone the Gibson Les Paul wouldn't even exist today period....Les Paul began construction on what would become the Log in 1939 after befriending Epiphone owner Epi Stathopoulo. Epi gave Les the keys to the company’s New York factory, where Les worked on the design after hours.
His somewhat crude invention consisted of a four-inch by four-inch block of pine, on which he attached a neck, bridge and pickups. He played the instrument live but people were initially bewildered by its unorthodox appearance. No matter. Les Paul had a clever response.
The luthier cut an Epiphone hollowbody in two and attached the two halves to either side of his four-by-four-inch slab. It was now essentially a through-neck construction, only with a separate neck piece. But, crucially, it looked not unlike a regular guitar. Its central pine slab also reduced feedback issues and increased sustain, while the guitar also featured a vibrato bridge patented by Doc Kauffman, the Vibrola. This is the Log as we know it.
i'm sure their craftsmanship has been stepped up in the past few years, but i think they need more lineup.
i have pretty specific taste in guitars, i like gibson shapes the most but i want more modern specs like 24 frets, and routed neck joints. it frustrates me so much that they make my favorite guitars but only epiphone has models with the specs i would want.
I finally got a 50's standard in Tobacco burst a few months ago and it was worth every penny! Mine was also a floor model so I got a dealio! Kinda sucks they done away with the baby photo.😢 That looks like a guard off kinda top....#FREE THE FLAME!😂 I cannot spot any flaws!😅
Gibsons are awesome. I own many brands, some built better, but non sound like a good Lp!
Gibson still has QC issues. I sent a new '61 SG back to Sweetwater in Oct 2023 because it was not even playable. It had a snap, crackle and pop when you touched the body around the controls. I expect a 2k guitar to be at least playable.
Flaws are that it's not red and named Lucy. And of course a lack of Rosewood.
Nice! 🤘
@londonbailey looks like they gave you the wrong switch tip… should be Amber?
ya looks like it. it was shown in the photos thought so I knew
People that say they suck either just received an actual bad one with a flaw or something or, which is more so I believe, just are sour about them because of their price. I'll even see many people say just buy an Epiphone, they're better for 1/8 the price. While these new Epiphones are pretty nice for the moneys they clearly aren't 'better' though lol.
I love sweetwaters, Gibson Les Paul is the best guitar ever, I have a slash version and an epiphone 1958
They certainly dont suck, but we are tied to the burstbucker pickup unless you buy a studio (which is the better guitar IMO)
and no-one likes gloss.
most people i know prefer gloss. some even buy matte gibsons because they are cheaper and then buff them to gloss.@@craigtodd8297
I dont know what to think. Just got the LP Standard 60's in translucent Fuchsia, Im stuck between youtube reviews saying its really good and others saying its total rubbish and you should only buy custom line. Luckily as a beginner Im not good enough to tell the difference.
The only thing that matters is what you think 🎸😀👍
I felt the Dean DeLeo in you with that Les Paul. Well played (pun intended).
love STP :)
@@landonbaileyFolks tend to fixate on Nirvana, but STP were one of the best bands to pop up in the '90s, along with Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, and Scott Weiland makes the short list for best rock frontmen of any decade
Honda sticker, do you ride Landon?
I don't. Jonny Greenwood guitar :)
@@landonbailey I'll have to check that out. Also, nice video, gorgeous Paul, congratulations!
Beauty!
Man, I love that finish. The main fault I saw is the same one I always see. A PLASTIC output jack plate on a multi-thousand dollar guitar.
it's for weight relief! 😅
@@landonbailey Wow, now that is smart.
Everyone who is complaining about the price should go out and get them selves a nice Epiphone and a Line 6, because thats probably all your worth. 3000 is just a drop in the hat and the quality is worth every penny.
Nice......but it’s no telecaster 😊
Really Landon you just had to buy a Gibson LP and start a war 🤣🤣🤣. Cool color by the way. Play guitar and have fun! Love your channel!
on
There’s no doubt that Gibson makes great guitars…. most of the time. But for the prices they charge, they should all be great all the time. I’d sure as Hell like one, but I am much more likely to buy half a dozen really good import guitars for the same money.
I’d say pickguard off. That top needs to shine all over.
Guard off!
I just had to say that I love Gibson's. I think they're great guitars I own 3 of them. 2 Les pauls and 1 SG. But I have to agree with a lot of comments I truly believe they are way overpriced. But I got my years ago when they were cheaper. But everything's expensive nowadays, prices are going up on everything. Even some of the Epiphone are close to $1,000. And don't even get me started on fenders lol. All I have to say is if you like something and you truly want it just buy it. That's what I do.
The epiphone "greeny" les paul is 1500...fender's been putting out some MIM models lately costing more than that...what seems outrageous now is going to be the standard pretty soon if you want something name-brand
Cool guitar. IMHO Pickguard off 😎
Of course they don't suck..... Some, like every kind made, are better than others and do different things. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Guard on.
They don’t suck at all, I just can’t afford one lol. I wish sweetwater offered financing for Canadians 😢
I'm actually happy you got a free b...............see what I did there, free "B". ya know, cause its a b stock/demo
I BOUGHT A GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM PLUS IN ICE TEA. BEST PLAYING GUITAR I EVER BOUGHT. I WAS A REAL FENDER GUY AT THE TIME. IF IT ISNT AMERICAN I WON'T BUY IT. I UNDERSTAND NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD ONE. DONT HATE JUST CUZ YOU CANT.
I
Why do people complain about the price? You're getting high quality woods and electronics from a reputable brand, built in the us. What else are you expecting. It's like complaining about the price of a Mercedes-Benz
Folks love hating on guitars they can't afford
Ha! As soon as I saw it I said, pickguard begone!
Nice!
The first defect is: the top looks like the afghan's my grandmom knits. Second defect is: you're playing it. Hahahahahahahahahaha. Cheers, my Canadian brother.
That guitar is sick.
Not _every_ Gibson sucks, but for $3k too many are subpar. It's rather Gibson as a company that truly sucks.
Gibson guitars are expensive, as are most nice/luxurious things. I have to wonder when people are going to get over it??? My best guess is never.
