All plugins were Authentic Gibson plugins, and of course everything was monitored on Authentic Gibson Studio Monitors.
Find it kinda funny you're take on the smaller frets, frets not being cryo and locking strap locks. This is a 60's (as in trying to keep to that eras specs). Think you're more of a "Modern" player. Ya even said you thought last year's 2019 models were a better deal. The 50's and 60's Standards are for those who want that traditional LP Standard. What most Gibson fans have been wanting for years (without having to pay for huge Custom Shop $$$). Cheers.
I have 2 from ‘86 and the latest from a few months ago , 2021……………it is my “go to” now. It is definitely worth it !!!! Mark got Gibson back on track !!!!!!!!!!! Mine came perfect, setup was incredible, and the damn thing was in tune when it was delivered. I had played a few and they seemed consistent. So I ordered one to test the theory.
I have owned 100s of Gibson les pauls from the 50s too now I have too say the 2020 Les paul is one of the best modern Gibson les pauls made too date , Gibson really up there game the neck feel is second too none , nut work is tight , simple electronics and great finishes , solid bodies and sound great ... My 2020 60's Ice tea is absolutely beautiful and weighs 9.2 lbs solid body my go too guitar now .
I totally agree. I got the same LP and that thing is magic. Anyone downing the 2020 Standard has no clue and is just still butthurt from Gibson for whatever reason. My 2018 Tribute goes hand in hand with this one.
It's not the 3 way toggle wired wrong, it's just inverted, just unscrew and rotate 180º. But definitely something that has no excuse on a 2.5K guitar. PS: That flame top looks quite messy for a 2.5K guitar, i got my les pauls on good deals around 1.5K new, not even close to the 2.5k they are asking, they do sound great and play great but they have finishing flaws that you usually only see on sub 1K guitars.
@@agufish , Les didn't have shares in Gibson . His contract was never anything else than what is known today as an endorsement deal, on a percentage per guitar sold.
I doubt you would get an honest answer from Les or anyone under any endorsement contract. Unless they want to lose the contract, they're probably gonna give you a "politician answer". Why is it that you seem to get lots of faulty guitars? You've gotten an Ibanez that should not have left the factory, a Les Paul with 3 volumes and now a top tier Gibson with the pickup selector backwords
From Leo: I think the 1960's Les Paul reissues are somewhat humorous because I am old enough to remember that they did not make Les Paul designed guitars for most of that decade. All during the '60's they were selling SG's. I think they started making the single cuts again in 1968 or 1969. We did not see a lot of them. I am not sure of an exact date, there was a war going on so that kept most of our attention, and I was playing a Strat anyway.

(July 4th sale at one of the stores) My first single cut, and I got into single cuts because of your channel tbh.. Thanks a lot for putting quality content and rocking it, and your honest opinions are always on the mark.
Agree we should not have to do the QC for Gibson, mine had issues as well, had to send back. I ended up happy with my 2019 Les Paul Standard HP though, the pickup configs mean you can get whatever you want out of it tone-ally.
Man your riffage is getting to seriously high levels, and now the number one reason I watch your vids is to hear your next demo song (although the reviews are great too)
I just bought a 2020 standard bourbon burst. It is just as fantastic as it is heavy. What the heck, I will gladly carry that weight as a proud owner of such a perfect instrument.
I think a Dirty Fingers in the Bridge and PAF Pro in the neck or an Air Norton in the neck combo would be awesome on this Les Paul. Those 3 are my favorite Gibson pickups or pickups to put in a Gibson. Nice video and review!
Goddamn I remember when you were at 9k subs, barely getting any views and now you're going to tgu, doing collabs with samurai guitarist, and getting shoutouts from Ola Englund. I just wanna know, how surreal does it feel?
Sometimes, maybe always, rhythm guitarists do not receive their proper respect. And so, with that in mind, I tip my hat 🧢 to you my friend!! Thanks for the vids!
There is something great about a well made Gibson. Sadly, it's a real chore to FIND ONE with quality on par with the quality of PRS, EBMM and a host of consistently higher quality offerings from overseas manufacturers. It all comes down to the law of diminishing returns. If Gibson wants a premium price for their instruments, their quality needs to reflect that.
I just bought this exact guitar and its amazing, perfect set up, plays and sings like a dream. Not a single bad thing i could say about it, they DEFINATLY stepped up with this new original series.
A PRS is, IMO, horrible looking, no matter how great they may be as instruments, I think they are ugly as hell, also not a single one of my heroes plays or played a PRS. I am not american, but I suspect Gibsons are expensive AF because it's made in the US and labor is way more expensive there, also, Gibsons have a lot of manually made parts, like binding, which is pretty time consuming, Fenders are pretty much all about CNC, thats is why they are cheaper
I have the Epiphone ES-335 Pro in iced tea and it is a great guitar. Only cost me $420. Want to be authentic? Do NOT be a poser and a slave to the name on the headstock. A very breakable headstock at that.
I may not like how Gibson as a company is acting right now. But I will always love Gibson guitars. They are masterpieces. I own an Ibanez RG, a Fender Mexican Strat, an LTD Eclipse, and a Fender American Telecaster. Gibsons are the best-quality, mass produced guitars that I’ve ever played. The only thing that tops them in my opinion are professionally handmade guitars from individual luthiers. But those generally go for much more money. I plan on buying a Gibson Les Paul in the near future.
I'm not sure whether I was lucky or what, I got a Gibson standard 2017, it looks perfect to me, a 3A maple top, neck just ok for me, not too fat, not to thin. And the neck is super stable, weather changings seems done nothing to the neck. And I love the single coil function as well as those locking tunners!
Loved this review! I’m looking for a Les Paul to do hard rock but it’s so rare to find videos of players using these for high gain tones. How do you think this stacks up against the classic? This is why I follow your channel, keep it up man!
I just think it's wild that the same company can give you essentially the same guitar, only differences being hardware, maybe a few material choices, and "hand-made", and charge ~$500 for the Epiphone Standard Les Paul (which is fair, I played one today and it was really nice and sounded decent), and then charge $2,500+ for essentially a logo. I know a guy that builds guitars out of his garage, by hand, as a hobby. He could build a fantastic guitar for roughly the same price as an Epi. Let me remind you: hand-made. In a garage in Maryland. And he shares the entire process on his social media platforms. And his customers have been relatively satisfied with only minor complaints if any. Not sure how to feel about "authentic Gibbies" now. Gibsons are essentially the iPhone of guitars: not that bad, and gnerally usable, but probably too overpriced. I'm confident that they've definitely improved their QC over the last year or so, but I'll stick to a guitar I can afford.
Hello Hunter, looks like you are doing great. All the most talked about single cuts was reviewed lately. Chapman, Solat and now Gibson ... wow, great work ;)
A "backwards" sele tor switch on a Les Paul allows more easily for fret-tapping on the bridge pickup without the switch getting knocked into the other position. It's already up.
Them riffs man! Them f**king riffs! 🤘 Ok Mr. Single cut, would love to see you check out the Schecter Solo II Red Reign or the Jackson Monarch Pro. They have one in a purple burst! They also have a Marty Friedman signature model. Love your channel dude!
I've got an Agile 3100 that's every bit as quality in terms of build as any Gibson LP iv'e ever held in person. I love the look of it too. It has this sky blue burst sort of finish and a maple fingerboard with cream binding and that all looks a satisfying as it sounds.
Although it's not a 'shred' guitar, there wouldn't really be a downside to have the neck transition better into the body to make it easier to reach higher frets. Gibson charges a price premium for just being the original, not really having features or ergonomic benefits over competition. Imagine if Fender tried suing every company with a strat style guitar.
They did try to trademark the strat, tele, and P-Bass shapes about 10 or 15 years ago, presumably so they could have grounds to sue people who copied the shapes too closely, but they weren't successful. A judge ruled that they couldn't claim ownership of the shapes cause they had allowed them to be widely copied for 40+ years...much like what I'm sure will happen with Gibson.
I mean the logic goes that More Authentic = More cost or value (at least that's just me haha). But darn if they think that I have a penny to my name lol. Guitar actually sounds pretty good for the classics tho!
Ryan Bobadilla I wish I would have bought one of those when I lived in Japan. But I thought “it’s not a Gibson, it can’t be good” back when I was a beginner 😳
As I already said elsewhere, the guitar itself is not really the problem in the recent shitstorm around Gibson, even if everybody know they have intrinsic quirks. It's all about Gibson's behaviors as an entity (wich are directly why their guitars still have those quirks, by the way...). I don't see any problem with you reviewing one of those literal legends, as long as you don't pet them, and it's definitely not your style. Because YOU know how to stay genuinely authentic without the need of bullying anybody ;)
Anybody else relentlessly watching videos like this to rev themselves up into buying one? 😂 Love the 60s but have to say I much prefer the honey gold pots on 50s, tributes and many customs
You can get a used Les Paul studio for 500 to 800 online. Sounds every bit as good as this guitar, comes with a hard case, just doesn't have a burst finish.
Tried one of these at the Guitar Center in Atlanta. Sat down, plugged up, went to turn the volume up on the guitar and the knob came off. Im not really surprised by the backwards switch on yours.
“Something about a well-made gibson” he says while holding a mistakenly wired guitar that will be hard to refret, and costs too much... gibson hasn’t changed then. At least fender doesn’t need to angle their heads, because they aren’t in the stone age anymore.
Why do you like nitro finishes? I much prefer poly. Much more durable, less toxic and when applied and buffed properly not that sticky. I've actually found nitro to be much more sticky than a good hard poly because it's a little softer.
i mean for that kind of money the offer is HUUUUUUGE, even in non-counterfeit (according to gibson) brands. And if you've seen Henning's single cut style shootout videos at thomann last year.... yeah :P
I cut my teeth on les pauls since the 80's ....i am so used to those low frets that i CANNOT play jumbos...i need to feel the wood under my fingers....and smaller frets work better for me up past the 12th fret...i've had ALOT of guitars re-fretted cuz of jumbos and that gets freakin expensive!!!....great review my brother!!!!
The binding going up to the frets is kinda iffy imo. I have a Les Paul Supreme that had this feature and the binding has worn away on the treble side so that the high E string can get caught in the space between the fret and the binding.
Great video and thank you for not just jumping on the bash Gibson bandwagon. I think they screwed up by making that video and by waiting decades too long to defend their "intellectual property", but I don't think they are the Satan everyone is making them out to be. Thank you for having the guts to speak your mind and not just go with the grain.
To comment on "Gibson uses high quality woods, so it is not a boat anchor", there are a few reasons why two guitars with the same components and species of wood could weight completely differently and it's not necessarily due to quality. This just means Gibson has potentially paid more attention to wood selection to consistently keep the weight down. Still good on Gibson's part, but for a different reason.
Did they seriously go back to the smaller strap buttons? The big buttons were literally the only welcome addition the last few years. Guess I'm keeping my 2016.

Wonder how Lester Paul would react to Gibson in 2019.
I would be curious to know as well. It’s along the same vein as “what would the founding fathers think of the USA today?” Fun to think about

Lol hey your price point of 2800 is spot on for us Canadians lol didn't even notice it was the wrong price till you pointed it out. Lol
Jordan Mayer hahaha try closer to 4 grand at long and mcquade
Your correct! Must've been thinking bout the classic. Although I've been seeing em around 3300-3450
I have an Orville Les Paul Custom does that technically mean I'm playing "Authentic"?
Orville is better than "Authentic"
Ryan Bobadilla I wish I would have bought one of those when I lived in Japan. But I thought “it’s not a Gibson, it can’t be good” back when I was a beginner 😳
Yes
That demo song sounded great! Well done
My Gibsons trump any PRS I've ever played. Come at me bros!!! Enjoyed this video and the unbiased review!
And now, agufish joins to the "P L A Y A U T H E N T I C"
Nice Review, btw. I love the song
Being a blues player, I still went with an ESP eclipse with EMG’s over an LP. And I’m talking about playing clean/mellow blues tones
I seriously love my 60 emg for cleans haha
I dig that sig HB model in the back...
Its amazing how a Gibson les paul sounds when played right
I would love to hear you review the Standard 50's
Just ordered my LP Tribute stoked!!
Anybody else relentlessly watching videos like this to rev themselves up into buying one? 😂
Love the 60s but have to say I much prefer the honey gold pots on 50s, tributes and many customs
I’d still go for a kiesel imo.
You can get a used Les Paul studio for 500 to 800 online. Sounds every bit as good as this guitar, comes with a hard case, just doesn't have a burst finish.
I like how you have the ceiling fan reflecting on each tuner back.. At first I was like WTF is on those tuners..lol Great playing and review Hunter.
Hahaha yeah it’s a little distracting, this is still very much a homegrown operation :(
Tried one of these at the Guitar Center in Atlanta.
All Gibsons with binding are hard to refret
Why do you like nitro finishes? I much prefer poly. Much more durable, less toxic and when applied and buffed properly not that sticky. I've actually found nitro to be much more sticky than a good hard poly because it's a little softer.
Id rather a tokai for the cost
Tokai is a upgrade of gibson
Ditto.
@@viniciusfranca896 depends on what series you buy but ive heard good things about the chinese traditionals.
@@krumple4skin548 i mean tokai "love rock" known as japanese les paul that guitar tune is amazing bro
@@viniciusfranca896 yeah they make sonething called a legacy love rock and traditional both are made in china.
Dont worry about getting new Gibson ... According to youtube and facebook comment, everyone is selling their Gibsons and Epihones :D :D :D
Dude for real lol
Question for your next FAQ; Where's Simon?
#WeMissSimon!
Christ that les paul looks beautiful
Hunter what do you think of a band out of Atlanta called >> Like Machines -Song>> Destitute. Formerly - The Stir
i mean for that kind of money the offer is HUUUUUUGE, even in non-counterfeit (according to gibson) brands. And if you've seen Henning's single cut style shootout videos at thomann last year.... yeah :P
The tastiest of riffs! Now, let me try playing these on my "AUTHENTIC GUITAR"
Never had that problem. Even on my scalloped necks.
The binding going up to the frets is kinda iffy imo. I have a Les Paul Supreme that had this feature and the binding has worn away on the treble side so that the high E string can get caught in the space between the fret and the binding.
Lol what? That sucks dude. The binding on my 72 Custom is doing just fine. What year is your Supreme?
Great video and thank you for not just jumping on the bash Gibson bandwagon. I think they screwed up by making that video and by waiting decades too long to defend their "intellectual property", but I don't think they are the Satan everyone is making them out to be. Thank you for having the guts to speak your mind and not just go with the grain.
50s standard cherry burst is next goal. 👍
How do simple things like a backwards switch and 3 volume knobs pass inspection?
@G. V. Q Even on Trogly's 60s the pickguard wasn't installed properly so it created a gouge in the finish it's like c'mon are you serious?
To comment on "Gibson uses high quality woods, so it is not a boat anchor", there are a few reasons why two guitars with the same components and species of wood could weight completely differently and it's not necessarily due to quality. This just means Gibson has potentially paid more attention to wood selection to consistently keep the weight down. Still good on Gibson's part, but for a different reason.
Did they seriously go back to the smaller strap buttons?
The big buttons were literally the only welcome addition the last few years. Guess I'm keeping my 2016.
Great video as usual man! As a Les Paul lover, think you’ll ever have an Eastman sb59 or a Maybach Lester on the channel?
Just reached out to Eastman, let's see what happens :)
