Instead of snapping that plastic piece off with a screw driver and potentially damaging the ribbon cable, just pull up on the two tabs on the opposite side of it to remove that piece correctly.
evert friberg if you’re looking at the printer from the top, look at where he prices off the plastic piece, then look on the outer right side of that piece. You’ll see the entire black plastic piece wraps around the top, and then on the outer right side there are two small tabs you can lift up to pull that entire piece off without breaking.
@@calcoindustries Thanks for pointing this out. I saw him break the part and knew there had to be a way to do it without causing damage. I'm trying to refurb my old R1800 that's been in storage for 10+ years so I'll be taking it apart to give it a good cleaning.
Hi Calco88, sounds like you've been into this printer before. My Epson Stylus doesn't print anything Is it possible I could have destroyed my print head by running alcohol through to clean the heads? Is there any way to definitively check that the print head is NOT destroyed?
Peter Poggi I had 2 of them that I tried restoring. Only got them to print a couple colors inconsistently. I destroyed a print head trying to excessively force alcohol through the heads and ultimately damaging the internals. I tried using an ultrasonic cleaner as well with the same results. Ended up selling them for parts on eBay which they seem to have some value. Not worth the hassle to restore in my opinion.
Thanks for the video! Made it very easy to take this apart and clean up. I think my printhead is gummed up inside though. Seeing a lot of printheads on sale on ebay though, might try one of those.
I don't know why but I'm struggling with this. Could you possibly provide a DETAILED step-by-step procedure? BTW, both paper and ink lights have started blinking whether those matter. Also, in a previous effort to get the printer printing correctly, I used a printhead cleaner. Since then, it only prints a brown bar across the top of the nozzle check print. Thanks.
Is there a follow-up video? He applies the tape and the video ends. On another one of his videos I think he implies that the print head will be sent to him for repair or cleaning. Is there a video that describes the cleaning process once the head is removed. I assume there is soaking process of the print head but protecting the taped portion.
How to remove the print head... Take the ink out and throw it away, then take a screw driver and bust open the plastic bits, don't forget to let some of the pieces fall into the printer.
Ok so I cleaned out the heads very well.. the water is flowing nicely but now how to put it back??? When you take off the strips, how does one put them back???

Did you ever get your printer back up and running? I just removed and cleaned my print head as well using alcohol mixed with water. Now only blue is printing and very faint at that :/

@@watchingvideosyup I tried several combinations of alcohol/water. I think I may have ruined the head by using too much pressure. I put about week into it. And you're right. Every time you charge it you're sucking down ink.

I removed the head and flushed it to where I was getting a waterfall out the bottom of the head by using a syringe and tubing to push water and alcohol through each ink port. I wasn’t aware too much pressure could damage the head. No one mentioned that in any of the videos I watched...

many who are watching your video plan to reassemble. a bit reckless to include "now break it and throw that part out" as one of your steps

Carefully, gently push them back in straight. Work them in slowly, don't try to push it in all in one shot.
