    *** DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO. HE LITERALLY DESTORYS THE PRINTER. If you follow this video you are breaking it. you are not fixing it on any level. i am not sure if this is a punk video or what, but telling people to be careful as you break parts and bend plastic beyond repair. labeling the steps as your literally destory a classic printer is beyond careless.

    I don't know why but I'm struggling with this. Could you possibly provide a DETAILED step-by-step procedure? BTW, both paper and ink lights have started blinking whether those matter. Also, in a previous effort to get the printer printing correctly, I used a printhead cleaner. Since then, it only prints a brown bar across the top of the nozzle check print. Thanks.

    This is a really old post as are the comments, so I'd like to add: First, before you do this, HAVE GREAT LIGHTING, a LONG THIN magnetized phillips screw driver is best - wear gloves, have plastic wrap and paper towels close by - this will help with the mess. Oh, and some scotch tape*. Next: REALIZE THAT HE IS NOT PLANNING TO REASSEMBLE THIS PRINTER!!! MOVE SLOWLY, MINDFULLY, AND SO YOU DON'T BREAK YOUR TABS (Not the end of the world but it feels like it when it happens)! Next , this is probably the easiest to follow video you will find (If not the ONLY one that takes you this in-depth). He does fail to mention a few screws, just be mindful, but you can stop, rewind and even run in reverse for reassembly to help. During disassembly, I STRONGLY recommend scotch-taping the screws (where able) right beside the hole they go into - it's not the end of the world if you mix them up, but it is a headache and can save a LOT of time and frustration! About the screws, just remember, very fine-threaded screws generally plastic or metal, to metal and the others attach plastic to plastic. Protect your electronic components! When disconnecting the ribbon/flex cables use caution - they may feel stuck - pull firmly - remember, these printers are old - unless you know for a fact that the ribbon/flex cables a new, you may very well tear the little blue plastic piece that allows you to plug the cable back in, you can glue it back on, but you don't want to disrupt the electrical current. You WILL find a few videos on UA-cam that show you how to splice this flex ribbon, but unless you have the dexterity of a surgeon, I'd say it will be quite hard (and you'll still need the plastic guide to plug it back in!!) and do you REALLY want to COMPLETELY disassemble this thing to replace the entire cable? Beyond this, just follow the video and have fun. After you've done it about 20 times, you won't need the video any longer! LOL

    Hello Jack: I don't know if you're still out there. If you are, I have this query for you. Your video on removing the printhead of the Epson 3800 and 3880 is awesom. I have a question? I am in the process of re-assembling my 3880 after using your method to disassemble the printer to clean the printhead. What I want to know is; do I need to make a "Space Making Jig," to make sure all lines are in alignment in the printhead and IC cable as I reassemble? Thanks for your indulging me on this question. OM

    The way in which you at these parts has me cringing. It is fine is you are salvaging for parts off of a printer that is deems a "part out" printer but the average user is going to destroy their printer going at it with the same force & carelessness that you are showing.

    You don't really need a screwdriver for this. A hammer will do the job. Talking seriously, to remove the chip board properly, you need to push into the little holes on the sides from left and right of the carriage unit. The hole can be easily seen on the right side of the unit, you put the hook in and gently push towards the chip board until it clicks, releasing the chip board. Then push into the same hole on the left side of the carriage unit. Else, get yourself a service manual.

    I have an Epson Stylus C88+ that has regular horizontal black lines (only black) in its prints. I've found that setting the quality option to "best photo" causes the lines to appear at exactly 1 mm apart, and changing this to "text" causes the lines to show up less often but still typically regularly spaced. What is odd is that areas of the prints that are black still print in very good quality; it's just that these lines are literally covering the page. I have tried removing and reinstalling the driver and cleaning and aligning the print heads multiple times, including manually cleaning the print heads with distilled water pushed through via a syringe as a last ditch effort. The printer cartridges are authentic Epson cartridges. I'm assuming the black print head is bad, but was hoping someone else would have another idea.

    All this trouble removing the housing panels is unnecessary. On an R3000 the print head can be removed directly. Jump to half way thtu this video.

      Do you mean it can be removed by merely flipping the lid open and following the other steps here from that point around 3:15 in the video? Thank you.

    • @paulhorsted9057
      @paulhorsted9057 4 роки тому

      It appears you cannot remove the single screw seen at 3:20 (for removing the top of the printer head assembly) without getting the top of the printer off first, as the screw is not accessible without that step, so I'm not sure this information from Tom is correct but I'd love to hear more. I'm tearing into my R3000 right now attempting to replace the print head.

    • @paulhorsted9057
      @paulhorsted9057 4 роки тому

      Updating my own repair, in hopes this will help someone else. Accessing the print head assembly and actual print head, without removing the entire case, can be done but is a very tight fit getting the parts in/out of the printer. Here's what I did: I drilled a hole (large enough to insert a screwdriver through) through the plastic interior cover of the printer, directly above the single screw for the black plastic cover of the head assembly (which I had moved to right of center of the printer, to the left of the capping station). I could then remove that single screw holding the black lid of the print head assembly in place (via the drilled hole, where I'd inserted the screwdriver). (When drilling, I was careful to capture all pieces of plastic which fell. Don't let them get down into the printer.) To remove that print head assembly lid screw, you might instead be able to sneak a flexible or angled screwdriver in through the top of the printer, but I didn't have one of those. Then, taking a lot of care, I was able to follow the rest of the steps in the video for removal of the print head, disconnecting ribbon cables, etc., and get those parts out, all without disassembly of the printer case as shown in the first half of the video. Note some screws in the print head assembly are similar but I think different sizes, keep track of which one goes where for re-assembly. Having said all of this, it would be easier to get the print head parts in and out of the printer if you take the case apart as shown earlier in this video. I was able to replace a print head without doing so, but it was very tight, I had some difficulty with reassembly, and there was some risk of pinching cables in the process. But in the end, I have a new head installed thanks to this video showing the way. BTW I had removed a print head from another R3000, which had never been charged with ink due to some fault in the pumping system and was out of warranty when this fault was discovered. I had no issues with that print head working in this other printer I've been working on, other than having to run cleaning cycles and test pages to get it full of ink and printing correctly. I thought there might be firmware or other issues but so far so good.
