    With so many ultrawide monitors these days it's a shame none of these brands give supported resolutions in the specs, I would consider buying one if I was sure it worked with 5120x1440p

    I would add there is a firmware update to this unit that makes some improvements. Albeit I had to install mine manually.
    There was an audio buzz issue out of box that was fixed via the firmware update. This card now works much more effeciently after the firmware update as well.

    Picked up an Elgato 4K X the other day and the OBS preview works great. I've noticed that sometimes it becomes laggy and I have to reconnect the cable. HDR doesn't work properly on Mac it seems too which is the only downer (Apple's fault). Been using iPad Camo Studio too but it only supports up to 60fps so bought some random crash-grab app that simply shows the camera input and FPS selector and it works pretty well. Currently using it for a in-car PS5 + inverter + battery project I just put together. Using MacBook Pro or Steam Deck as the monitor. Much simpler than a Sunshine/Moonlight combo. Very happy overall and bought it based on your review and OBS Preview Input latency chart so thanks!

    So it seems like with the nrw hdmi 2.1 capture cards. Unless you want to game in 120fps and capture 4k 60 over USB. Your current or even last gen cards are probably just fine. Im still rocking the 4k60 pro mk.2 pci e. Use it for capturing gaming tutorials on console, gameplay and some times other hdmi decices when i want direct screen capture.
    I feel like the only true sucessor is someoone getting a proper veeison of thr 4K60s+ to work consistently.

    Seems like pretty cool capture box, but as a Linux user it would be nice to see more Display Port options with these capture boxes and cards especially with HDMI 2.1 being out of the game unless binary blobs are used.
    Though if I ever get my old consoles shipped to where I currently live this'll do just fine and it's nice that there are so many options to choose from if I were to capture console output.

    Quick question outside of this video. If you have a 12th gen or above intel CPU with UHD 770 graphics, can you av1 encode off of those graphics? Say if you were to have like an AMD 6000 series or Nvidia 3000 series gpu that can't AV1. encode. I looked it up on Google to see if it's possible but I'm not sure. And no I don't mean CPU AV1 encoding because that's very inefficient.

    • @EposVox

      iGPU AV1 encoding is expected on 14th Gen CPUs, but is not present on anything currently. Just decode

    I'd love to see a new video where we can find out which of the capture cards would work very well with the latest new VR gaming headsets, such as Meta Quest 2, PSVR 2, etc., so that we VR horror gamers/streamers can figure out which would work well. Thanks!
    Other than that, I appreciate this video and have learned a lot about the differences (and some similarities) about this capture card vs. the others, and it definitely helped me know which capture cards I intend to buy very soon!

      Unfortunately, I have no VR headsets

    • @taxa1569
      @taxa1569 2 місяці тому +1

      Whoa. None of the above. Your best and probably only option is with PCVR capturing the steam VR preview and picking one eye as the preview output, THEN full screen the preview on the capture card output. If not then OBS on the same PC to capture the window of that same preview.
      The reasons are this: 1. The headset is display port out or USB-C out.
      2. If the VR headset is HDMI. Using a passthrough doesn't give the software driving the VR headset the correct display identifier. AKA when you use the capture card as an output it identifies the display as the capture card 'AVT GC573' for the avermedia live gamer 4k.
      Or 3. The headset is wireless. What do you expect. Lol

      @@LKTheHorrorNerd definitely sorry to say it but good luck in your endeavours.
      I WILL say though. I don't know how the PSVR works. If the console mirrors what a single eye or central rendering of what's being sent to the headset (shows on your tv what you're looking at in VR). You may be able to capture the console out? This would require testing but if that's the VR product you have, then you can only benefit by finding out if that does work! :)

    So I guess this means the Elgato 4K X is still the only true HDMI2.1 capture card that actually captures 4K120/144. Worst part of that is the fact it is also the cheapest.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  2 місяці тому +17

      Any HDMI 2.1 capable capture card is a "true" HDMI 2.1 capture card. Most HDMI 2.0 capture cards couldn't capture native 4K60. Passthrough is what matters, only a handful of people actually have a use for 4K120 recordings.
