Guys I really recommend to follow at least the first tip. Playing the division 2 I’ve seen my temp dropping from 89 to 65, same graphics settings without losing fps or performance. Thanks for the tip
@@Janninatore it's been working fine for me. You should still have those options in your control panel as shown in the video. I'd also recommend checking out my newer video for some more advanced options and updates here ua-cam.com/video/Fmk0QEL4tqY/v-deo.html
@@batpixelHey, stupid question. There was an update that just released, and it says you can now disable cpu boost. Is that the same as what you're doing here?
Loved the video, I subscribed! I really like that you are not yelling at us like 90% of the youtubers on here. Love the chill music and the fact that you are talking to us like we are in the same room as you.
I've actually tuned off the turbo boost on my previous AYANEO devices because the 5825U and 6800U seemed to not be able to handle the power draw of the boost. It would throttle the gpus power when the cpu would spike. By disabling turbo boost I could get much smoother if not lower peak fps gaming in BF 2042. However on the Ally I don't have any trouble with it hitching like the older devices would with turbo on. The Ally is the best handheld BF 2042 experience I have had so far.
Disabling boost is a great idea But for me it's not enough For the silent profile i also limit the maximum speed to 70% on battery (the setting above boost setting)
It’s safe to play plugged in using it’s charger. The only dock I recommend to use with it is the official ROG Charger Dock I showed in the video. 3rd party docks are apparently losing performance for people who are trying to use those
Under Windows Bluetooth settings add a Bluetooth device. And then make your Xbox controller search for it (your Xbox controller must have Bluetooth ability) and once you’re connected to your TV through a dock & HDMI cable, you can mirror your display in Windows Display settings. I have links to the official charger dock you can use to connect to your TV in the description, or you can use 3rd party docks since the new update
Thanks for the tips! Love the video this was super helpful. And appreciate your engagement in the comments and responding to questions, also super helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it! I have a new updated video about this with a similar thumbnail uploaded in January 2024 you might find useful as well. Especially the shortcut for the GPU boost setting now
Awesome 🎮 I released an updated video in January 2024 and one recently that has some more tips as well, including some updates from this video. Let me know how you like the Ally when it shows up
Your CPU benchmarks go to hell when you go from aggressive to disabled for the performance boost, but it does improve your GPU scores. I would recommend turbo plugged-in set to aggressive for those benchmarks or when you do have a heavy CPU load task.
Yeah Cyberpunk has been mentioned as a game that could use it. Another tool that has been mentioned to play around with is the universal x86 handheld tuning utility
Hey I'm glad it helped. I made a few videos about some of these tips since, which have been updated and easier to access. My January 2024 video and my recent video 'One Year Later' both contain some helpful updated tips as well. Hope you're enjoying your Ally! 👌🎮🦇
Could you please elaborate on the performance issues with the cheap HDMI docks? Why is there any performance loss at all and what does ROG charger differently?
ASUS has since updated the ROG Ally to accept third party docks. So you should get full performance now. It was just a software issue. I actually reviewed a cheap third party dock iVANKY sent me in my latest video and I get full performance using the power cable from the ROG Ally with it
The first tip you can now do in Armory Crate itself. They added it as an option for your 'Command Center' tiles you can turn on/off Having it turned on only really comes in handy for very demanding games, such as Cyber Punk. But if you Google different settings depending on the game, usually this option is something people list
@@batpixel So the Jsaux comes with a SSD enclosure built into the stand! Which is amazing, it starts off at $100 but you can get it for $250 with a 2tb SSD included.
It's really on a game by game basis. The best thing to do is try and compare depending on what you're playing. The option is now a clickable button in command center you can add in Armory Crate, so it's a lot easier to turn off/on
I have the Extreme. Someone else commented that they never saw some options on their Z1, so there may be limited options. Also check out my updated video I recently released to compare your Z1 to my Extreme
If you see it connected under your Windows Bluetooth settings, try setting it up in the game input settings itself. If that don’t work, the Microsoft website has some guides on it
Can you help me please. Power Options > Processor Performance Boost Mode. i can only disable them on battery and plugged in. i cannot choose between Silent, Performance and Turbo i can only choose Balance.
Great video. I’ve had my alley 3 days and I updated everything. I can’t use the gamepad. No matter what game I try none of the keys work. I’m sure it’s me. I looked at maybe 30 videos and I still can’t get the joystick or anything to work. It’s like I have to use a mouse and keyboard. I’ve been settings in each game and set it up for gamepad but it only lets me play like I’m on a pc. Any advice where to go for beginners trying to get controller to work 😢
That’s strange. I’d say go into Armoury Crate and make sure your controller settings are set to ‘default’ and also open up your Command Center (left menu button) and you should see a tile there for controller mode and you can choose between ‘gamepad, PC, auto’ try changing it to gamepad mode or auto mode.. if those things don’t work, I’d say call ASUS customer support and they should be able to troubleshoot it with you
Yep turn it on/off with the new feature 👍 don't use the registry. I have an updated video I released in January 2024, but will be working on a 1 year update in the coming weeks as well
Cyberpunk 2077 won’t run now after doing your trick withe the power boost from the beginning of the video😢. I set the number registry back and the aggressive boost and still won’t launch. Crashes at startup
Cyberpunk and a couple of other games have that issue in general. Check out these suggestions on Reddit (2 links, but you can likely find more help around the web): www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/comments/14cp93t/cyberpunk_crashing_ally_on_startup/ www.reddit.com/r/ROGAlly/comments/14nghz5/cyberpunk_2077_immediate_crash_at_title_screens/
I've only found 1 docking station that's 4k 120hz Really would like one with SSD slot ether cable slot and a fan.. I'm I aiming to high? Or is there a way to maybe combined three items to get this?
The docking station I reviewed and the official dock are both missing fans. I did plug an SSD slot in via USB. But those prices are between $50-$100 so I’m guessing if you found one with a fan and a SSD slot you should expect to pay more than that. A fan would be a really good idea though
@@batpixel yeah the last 5days I been doing a ton of research the jsaux is the only one I found that does 4k 120hz and is a 12 in 1 but doesn't have a fan. I did find some awesome enclosures for SSD didn't really know they was a thing. Looking like I'll have to combine 3 or 4 different items to get the set up I want.
I’d love to see what you put together. The company I reviewed for is named iVanky, they may be interested in hearing about your ideas if you emailed them, say you were checking out Batpixel’s content but couldn’t find what you were looking for. I’m just mentioning this because they seem to love feedback and ideas from my experience with them
@@batpixel I sent them a email it would be awesome if they built one. It will be fun putting something together though. Another issue I've been running into in my dock hunt is space being able to fit my Ally with a full body silicone cover. It needs 1.5in would think companies take that into account when designing docking stations almost everyone puts on some type of case or at least a back plate mod making it wider than the standard 1in gap. I may have to use a tablet stand and 3D print a frame to hold 2 fans (or buy one) that I could glue to the tablet stand somehow run cords to a jsaux dock and use the Asus SSD enclosure with a 2280 4tb in it. That would cover all my needs and that some...
@@batpixel random question ❓ would you happen to know of a foldable "on ear" not over the ear gaming headphones? Found a pair of Sony ZX headphones that will technically work they have a mic but no mic control no volume control only plus is portability and sound quality. I have some turtle Beach pros for at home they make a nice set of ear buds but don't want ear buds I work in a factory and have to have ear plugs in my ears for 8-16hrs a day.
I saw that the updates a ROG Ally I just bought comes with CPU Boost disabling options, assignable to on that left sliding control panel button menu. Is it still worth it to use the registry settings? Or the ROG provided entry point is good enough? Also, don’t know if it is the current windows version, but those “aggressive” or not battery/power/management options aren’t there for me. Just that ‘minimum’ and ‘maximum’ power states ones. All in all, great vid nevertheless
Yes the update that you have access to now does the trick! So ignore that tip. I’ll be making an updated video soon that I’ll link people to when they see this one. Enjoy the Ally! It’s awesome
I followed to a tee not I just don't know how to get the files in my room folder as all it contains is 2 text docs titled Metadata and system info. Any advice? I've got a 5 yr old I want to show the world of dreamcast. Thanks in advance. Be well!
I would suggest watching specific videos on UA-cam about setting up a Dreamcast emulator. You should be able to transition the info from one of those guides to your Ally the exact same way, as it's just a Windows 11 device
I’ve never had any issues other than what I went over in the video, but for Halo multiplayer, you might wanna turn on ‘aggressive’ and try out a piece of software to customize your performance/GPU, temperature, etc. called universal x86 tuning utility handheld. Check out videos for it with the ROG Ally
The CPU boost will make your system work harder for more demanding games. So that results in the device running at a higher temperature. The issue is, it’s always on and using more resources than it needs to, even with easy to run games. They actually made this a lot easier to turn off/on right inside your command centre now. I released a new video in January going over some of the newer updates, it’s worth checking out here: ua-cam.com/video/Gk1sYGKMtnE/v-deo.htmlsi=jXD4aWcu8w2LejZZ
It depends on how the game performs. For example, I know games such as Cyberpunk don’t perform well with it off, so it’s better to leave on for more demanding games. If you bring up your FPS screen while you’re playing it should help see how it’s performing too. You can also play with various other settings such as the VRAM/GPU settings. ASUS added the cpu boost shut off as a clickable option in the command centre now 👌🏻
AMAZING Video!!! I just got my Ally, and I'm getting it all setup. This video, and your advanced one are required viewing. One question, now you've been using EmuDeck for a bit. How is the stability right now using the beta? Are you comfy using it daily?
Thank you! Feel free to share the videos to people who could benefit from them. I find EmuDeck crashes sometimes when you exit games, but for the ease of use and menu system (especially setting up Retroarch), it’s worth the time savings for me. I am picky about how my games are setup, so I still go into the emulators and customize button layouts and such anyway. But it does a really good job on its own
There’s an update now where you can turn CPU boost off and on using the command center buttons. So you can do it a lot easier now and safe. Check out my newest vid I show the updated way 👍🏻
Are you plugged in or Bluetooth? You may have to add your Bluetooth headphones under Bluetooth devices and also change your speaker audio settings to your headset? I’ve never tried a Bluetooth headset yet personally
@@batpixel I was using a wired headset, playing call of duty war zone 2. I went into the audio settings and gamelan settings. I just couldn't get the party audio to come through the headset. The game audio was working fine, it was just the private parry audio.
@@TSSAmbassador if your Windows audio settings and gamelan settings are correct, all I can think of is if you're using Xbox party chat or another app, inside those apps there should be 'chat mixer' settings in advanced sound and audio. You can change it to 'headset & speakers' or 'headset' it seems like you have a chat mixer issue within whatever party app you're using
I haven’t experienced this but someone else commented the same thing. Try changing your mode to performance and trying it again. Then change your mode to silent and try it again. See if those options become available. Make sure to do all your Ally’s updates as well
@kennethgill3785 I'm saying it only has Windows 11 features, so no it does not pause like the Switch can. It depends on which software you are using to run your games. Some apps offer that while other games do not
the issue im having is when I play retroarch games n64 all the way down to genesis it plays great on the console but when I plug in an idmi and play on the tv its basically unplayable. any thoughts. I know im not using the Asus made dock but idk I feel like it should be able to do this pretty easily
It's possible that it may have something to do with the dock. It could also be your tv- does it have a 'game mode'? You could be experiencing a delay. It's definitely an output issue with the dock or TV, or HDMI cable, because it works fine in handheld mode
@@batpixel ok just purchased the official dock and it really didn't make a difference. if I put the display to duplicate instead of just showing things on the external display it works much much better. just so strange I feel like I should be able to figure this out but I just cant.
When you're connected to the tv through duplicate displays, go into Windows Display Settings for the TV. Make sure it's set to something like 1080p/60hz. The TV should have separate settings than the Ally's settings. Play around ejth those a bit in Windows on the Ally system
I want to ask about the ROG deck. Because i want to use my external usb drive but the Ally only has one USB port so in order to use the usb drive i can not keep my device charging and i don't like to play games on battery. So i want to know that is it possible to connect a usb drive into the ROG deck while also charging the Ally ? Can you perhabs testing it if you happen to have a USB drive laying around ? thanks
Yeah you just need a docking station. They just released an update so you can use third party docks now too. I’ve watched UA-cam videos where people have external drives hooked up, so definitely watch a couple of videos on it for yourself But like I said if they talk about losing performance from third party docks in any videos, check the date of the video, because the update for third party docks compatibility just recently released and it’s working
@@batpixel Oh nice! Honestly though i would have prefer of getting a SD card but according to some users it seems that this device might destroy it ? And consider how expensive a micro SD card costs, i'm worried. Eitherway i definitely need a dock for this bad boy !
Yep there’s a risk with the SD and heat. They’ve updated it to run the fans better and mitigate it, but while it’s running hot it can potentially happen. I’m interested to see if they can get rid of that risk completely. They do have a program in place to replace or refund your Ally if it ever did happen. But like you said, it’s a safer bet to go external with the right setup
@@stevecollins115hahaha that’s awesome. Yeah man having the ability to pretty much carry your entire gaming history on 1 handheld device is wild. I’ve been loving it
Wanna try emulator...if I dl emu deck and pay for patreon, do I get all those emulators+games? Or I need to go somewhere to dl those retro games myself?
Could it be that Asus deactivated this in the meantime on their own? I bought an Ally ~1 week ago, did all the updates and this setting is already deactivated for all power plans.
@@batpixel Ah I've been randomly given your older video. Thanks a lot for mentioning it. Just watched the new video, very on point. Thanks a lot for the quick reply. Subbed!
Yeah but at least they’re working on improving it. I haven’t tried that game myself! I would suggest watching the tips on my latest video as well if you just picked it up
That’s awesome. You should check out my updates tips video I release in 2024 which shows you how to do these tips more easily now since they incorporated a lot of them into Armoury Crate
It would almost sound logical if playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 to not tinker with internal settings to make the game run cooler, you are sacrificing power and that is precisely what that game requires. I have been using SD docking station with external fans for Cyberpunk2077, 30w/1080p/ max settings and seeing temps in the mid70s low 80s 60+ fps. Also if you dock it goes into a sleep state on screen as it mirrors to monitor. Using less power/heat
Yep Cyberpunk has been a big discussion on this. It doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all for games that need max power/custom settings specific to them
The rog destroys the steam deck in every category besides price. Not only Does it feel better to hold and the controls are super good, but the games play absolutely flawless at a better quality and fps. I hope no one shorts themselves and settles for the steam deck, the rog is truly an amazing handheld!
Better to hold and controls are super good? Are you just saying that to justify your purchase or have you actually used a steam deck? I was looking at getting an ally but I hear complaints all the time about how the controls have deadzone issues or the sticks just don't feel as good and also how the ally digs into your hands and is no where near as ergonomic as the steam deck. You are the first person i've ever heard saying both of those are better on the ally
@z06tim well if he/she was the first person you've heard that from, then count me as the second to say so as well. I had steam deck for almost a year before I upgraded to the Asus Rog Ally. YES, the controls are super good and it's way comfortable to hold in the hands. Much lighter, the ergonomics and aesthetics are on point. Feels premium and overall a much much better product compared to my steam deck. Also, had this for a month now and 0 dead zone issues. I realize people have a habit of just bitching about everything.
I sent my rog back after 3 days. Bought a steam deck 2 weeks later and I’m waaay happier with it. I liked the rog a lot, but it’s not ready yet. The only think I like better on the rog is the screen. Everything else is better on the steam deck. But this is my opinion, I hope the rog sells well. I want all these handhelds to sell well to be honest.
Amazing help and awesome points. New subscriber here. Your vibe and content are amazing. I just picked up my ally yesterday. Question, by diasbled cpu boost will that ever effect games or functionality?. Have you ran into any of the SD card issues because of temps.
Thank you I appreciate that. I never experienced any issues since disabling it, but you can always turn it back on if you are playing a game that is struggling to see if it will help at all. But I would first try other options such as changing the game’s graphical settings to low and playing around with your ROG Ally’s performance options before doing that to save on temperature. I never ran into any issue with my SD card reader luckily, but ASUS is starting a program for anyone who was affected, so they can return their Ally or just get a refund. They are constantly working on updates and changing settings such as how the fans run during gameplay to keep it cooled down, so at least they are doing the right things for their customers and improving it
Рік тому+2
There are CPU intensive games that definitely suffer from limiting the boost , but you can have different profiles , or play with the settings , I found that just creating new manual profile in Armory Crate with all 3 values to same TDP will mostly have the same result , so I created a profile with 15W , another one with 18W and so on for 20W / 22W / 25W , if you game runs good with 18W makes no sense to stay on 20W or 22W
I never changed those options at all. I only focused on disabling 'aggressive' but keep in mind that some games may need to be set at aggressive if you're not seeing the performance you desire. For specific games, I'd recommend searching forums or videos to see what other users have their settings saved as for the best performance and you can create Game Profiles for each game once you have it figured out like I mentioned in my Advanced Tips video
There is a simple click that you can do to disable cpu boost… why going inside the registry? Also I have perfect video output with a 5$ AliExpress dock. No loss in resolution or performances.
The first tip should be more informative. Most games you don't loose performance but you will in CPU heavy applications especially emulators like CEMU.
Yeah I’ve been hearing that it’s a good option to turn on/off when you need it. There’s also a piece of software called universal x86 tuning utility handheld. It can customize what people need on a per game basis. There are some videos on it for the ROG Ally
It works well! They release an update where you can use other docking stations now too. I reviewed a different docking station in another video if you’re looking for more ports
It should work fine. Some newer games may need aggressive turned on in turbo mode depending on performance. Turn on your performance display and see how it’s running with it turned on/off. There are some custom software tools out there to customize how you run each game, as well as custom game profiles in the armoury crate on the ROG Ally too, so you can play around it on a per game basis if you want to. It’s worth testing out depending on your game
70 is pretty good as it is rated up to 95. You should see a reduction in your CPU usage. But if you’re not noticing a difference in temperature, I would suggest trying my tips in my second advanced tips video I released after this one. There are other options you can try depending on the game you’re playing
ok so im going over this and I think this is great for running on battery but plugged in i have agressive fan curves and it dosent really matter. This is interesting.... Im AM seeing some much lower temps though on battery - wow! Im really suprised this wasent ASUS default, windows desktop idling in performnance mode is only drawing 5w @ 37c dang, this used to be in the 50's (c)
When is it a good idea to leave the aggressive option on? Like I'm Gotham knights right now and it looks fantastic in turbo mode...I haven't done tip one yet but I'd like to because anything that helps kover temperature is good for these handhelds...but I really don't want to lose performance ...so for ur 1st tip does it not affect most games? I know cyberpunk needs the aggressive setting on but to me thats a console or PC game I wouldn't want to play that on a hendheld ...rather play it on PS5
You can turn it off and on pretty easily just by clicking on it once you have it setup. So I would recommend trying it out and see how your games perform. If any of them are laggy compared to before, try turning on aggressive again to give them a bit of extra boost. You could also try debloating a bunch of the system’s software using a program from GitHub to free up some RAM (there are really good guides on this on UA-cam and I may make one myself soon)
Okay before I do the first tip I need more information. I'm new to PC and I'm not really wanting to destroy my 700$ device... How can I be sure this is safe.. why was it set this way if it wasn't designed to be that way?
This will essentially use less CPU that isn’t needed to play your games. The CPU is set to an aggressive boost mode that is using more than you need most of the time. It’s a setting in your control panel so it won’t break your device. You should watch both of my videos showing tips for the Ally and also search other UA-camrs who offer these tips, especially #1, then decide what you’d like to do with your own
No mine has been fine especially after turning off aggressive when I don’t need it. But you’re in luck, ASUS just started a program where you can fully return it for another one or get your money refunded
@@KelvinNV I read about it on Digital Trends. Here is the quote and the link 'If you own an Asus ROG Ally and you find that the SD card reader is malfunctioning, Asus is opening a return (RMA) program. Appreciate it sounds like you play docked alot but do not recommend people to leave their devices on 60hz! AFAIK this disables VRR on the in-built display. Always leave it on 120hz even if you're at 50fps
@@MPPC10 if your monitor supports 120 then go for it. I just don't need it when I play on my old TV, but if you can take advantage of it then definitely do so.

@@ImTheHenster Ally i own both annd sold my steamdeck...Ally is perfect wait futur update and will be awesome. Steamdeck have more than 1 year...Ally 1 month...
Thank you :D they are both great options. I personally chose the ROG Ally because it runs Microsoft Windows and I can get better performance for new games. I love it so far. But the Steam Deck has been out a lot longer and has a lot of updates and support, including a longer battery life, and a cheaper price. It really depends on what you’re using it for. You should watch several reviews and learn about all the options out there and make sure you are getting what suits your needs. But like I mentioned in the video, there are ways to improve things such as the battery life with an external battery bank etc.
@@batpixel Thanks man! Thanks for your detailed input. Actually, I watched a lot of reviews and I was confused. 😂 Anyway, it seems that Ally is a better option for the future.
Step one is a huge difference in temp and and apu usage. In addition to step 1 I also installed universal x86 tuning utility handheld. I use manual mode and manual fan curve. The power modes get bypassed by universal x86. In x86 I put a tempature limit at 90 Celsius and then I put my apu watts at what ever I think the game requires. Holding both bumpers and the up analog pulls it up in game as well for quick tuning. With x86 you can also force it to go up to 60 watts I believe. On battery I boosted mine to 45watts no issue. Works great. Thank you
@@batpixel it’s worth a try! It has a bunch of other awesome features as well. I definitely got a temp drop. It’s nice to be able to control your exact wattage and temp limits as well regardless if charging or on battery.
There are some videos about the 100W docks and how they still lose performance. It seems like they will work at first glance but it has lead to disappointment for people
CPU power mod didn't work for me. CYBERPUNK 2077 FPS dropped to high teens low 20s. If you want to revert back, you have to do in exactly the reverse order.
Glad it helped. I’ve been enjoying playing a ton of retro games and being able to try some new games as well. Thanks for the sub that helps the channel a lot

Yeah I’ve been loving the 128 player servers with my buddy who plays on a Series X. I never upgraded my console and went with this instead
Just curious but do you recommend disabling turbo boost for a 6800U handheld? What are the consequences?
Disabling boost is a great idea
But for me it's not enough
For the silent profile i also limit the maximum speed to 70% on battery (the setting above boost setting)
Good to know!
Can i use it while plugged in and is it safe to play plugged in for its hardware and myself too?
It’s safe to play plugged in using it’s charger. The only dock I recommend to use with it is the official ROG Charger Dock I showed in the video. 3rd party docks are apparently losing performance for people who are trying to use those
How do you connect your Xbox controller to the ROG and how do you use mirror for the desktop and TV monitor?
Under Windows Bluetooth settings add a Bluetooth device. And then make your Xbox controller search for it (your Xbox controller must have Bluetooth ability) and once you’re connected to your TV through a dock & HDMI cable, you can mirror your display in Windows Display settings. I have links to the official charger dock you can use to connect to your TV in the description, or you can use 3rd party docks since the new update

Wow that first registry editor and power profile setup really lowered my Temps a lot! This should be how windows comes out of box
Glad it helped you out!
@@batpixel yeah I was impressed to see temps lower between 10 to 20 degrees even!
Dude thanks! , applied the 1st tip and see a lot of temp improvement
Awesome 😄
Thank you for this video i’m waiting for mine to arrive.
Awesome, enjoy it! Make sure to do all the updates and you can also turn the aggressive boost on/off in Armoury Crate now
@@batpixel Will do! 😄
I've done the same as the first step on my laptop it was really a great temp drop but I wrote "0" instead of "2" what is the difference?!
I'm not sure what the numbers do besides disable it
Thank you, this video was very helpful
Hey I'm glad it helped. I made a few videos about some of these tips since, which have been updated and easier to access. My January 2024 video and my recent video 'One Year Later' both contain some helpful updated tips as well. Hope you're enjoying your Ally! 👌🎮🦇
Does the newer feature in armory settings "CPU BOOST " toggle tip #1 on and off? That would be awesome if its that easy to turn on and off. Thanks.
Yep! They listened to the community and it is awesome. Check out my new video about some other updates too 👌🏻
@@batpixel thanks!
Thank you! Having them set from "aggressive" to "enabled" allows me to play Starfield at medium graphics! 🙂↕️🤙
They have updated the CPU boost so you can turn it on/off in command center now. Glad it helped 👌🦇
Could you please elaborate on the performance issues with the cheap HDMI docks? Why is there any performance loss at all and what does ROG charger differently?
ASUS has since updated the ROG Ally to accept third party docks. So you should get full performance now. It was just a software issue. I actually reviewed a cheap third party dock iVANKY sent me in my latest video and I get full performance using the power cable from the ROG Ally with it
Question, does the first tip affect emulation negatively?
The first tip you can now do in Armory Crate itself. They added it as an option for your 'Command Center' tiles you can turn on/off
Having it turned on only really comes in handy for very demanding games, such as Cyber Punk. But if you Google different settings depending on the game, usually this option is something people list
I subbed and liked. Thanks for your hard work and good advice.
I appreciate it 👍🏻
I have the ROG official dock but I’m getting the Jsaux. They just released a firmware update for it allowing the 30 watt turbo mode
Yeah that’s awesome. I’m curious what are the advantages of switching to the Jsaux? I haven’t looked into other docks yet since the update
@@batpixel So the Jsaux comes with a SSD enclosure built into the stand! Which is amazing, it starts off at $100 but you can get it for $250 with a 2tb SSD included.
Good to know!
what about the ally x? does the setting make a difference? considering you can allocate more to vram
It's really on a game by game basis. The best thing to do is try and compare depending on what you're playing. The option is now a clickable button in command center you can add in Armory Crate, so it's a lot easier to turn off/on
Did asus make a command in armory crate to disable cpu boost?
Is that something you’ve seen or heard? That’s news to me but would be a cool feature
@@batpixel Yes with new update, check armory crate shortcuts or operating modes tab
@@mbk1538that’s awesome news
thinking getting rog ally x , appreciate all tips.
Thanks. I've made some recent videos about the ROG Ally. The X version is incredible 👌 let me know how you like it if you pick one up
Is this for both Ally's or just the Z1 Extreme? I have the regular Z1.
I have the Extreme. Someone else commented that they never saw some options on their Z1, so there may be limited options. Also check out my updated video I recently released to compare your Z1 to my Extreme
I can connect my Xbox controller but I can’t get it to work. What do I do?
If you see it connected under your Windows Bluetooth settings, try setting it up in the game input settings itself. If that don’t work, the Microsoft website has some guides on it
Can you help me please.
Power Options > Processor Performance Boost Mode.
i can only disable them on battery and plugged in. i cannot choose between Silent, Performance and Turbo i can only choose Balance.
You can now turn off/on the aggressive boost in Armoury Crate which is a lot easier! Just make sure you’re updated
@@batpixel It worked thank you 😁
@@LadySamurai88sweet! 😄
Man great video thank you
Glad you liked it! I have a newer one out as well about advanced settings
I’d say go into Armoury Crate and make sure your controller settings are set to ‘default’ and also open up your Command Center (left menu button) and you should see a tile there for controller mode and you can choose between ‘gamepad, PC, auto’ try changing it to gamepad mode or auto mode.. if those things don’t work, I’d say call ASUS customer support and they should be able to troubleshoot it with you
rog ally has an option to turn off or on for the cpu boost, do i just turn off from there or follow what he did on the registry
Yep turn it on/off with the new feature 👍 don't use the registry. I have an updated video I released in January 2024, but will be working on a 1 year update in the coming weeks as well
The video is amazing worth 100% a sub
Glad you liked it! Some updates coming soon 👌🏻
Cyberpunk 2077 won’t run now after doing your trick withe the power boost from the beginning of the video😢. I set the number registry back and the aggressive boost and still won’t launch. Crashes at startup
Cyberpunk and a couple of other games have that issue in general. Check out these suggestions on Reddit (2 links, but you can likely find more help around the web):

I've only found 1 docking station that's 4k 120hz
Really would like one with SSD slot ether cable slot and a fan..
@@batpixel awesome thanks a lot! And indeed it totally is, already very happy with the purchase.
Cheers and happy holidays.
Do you have to buy the emulator games or can i juts get breath of the wild 1 and 2 and everything else for free? That'd be wild if so
There are ways for free, but I can't discuss that info on UA-cam
I followed to a tee not I just don't know how to get the files in my room folder as all it contains is 2 text docs titled Metadata and system info. Any advice? I've got a 5 yr old I want to show the world of dreamcast. Thanks in advance. Be well!
I would suggest watching specific videos on UA-cam about setting up a Dreamcast emulator. You should be able to transition the info from one of those guides to your Ally the exact same way, as it's just a Windows 11 device
What would you recommend for GPU settings?
I did the first tip, and the temp was hovering around 80C on Turbo without the battery playing Halo Infinite multiplayer
Where do you get the roms for the emulators?
I am not allowed to share the answer to that question on UA-cam 😅
@batpixel 😖
What the function for the first tips?i dont understand🤔
The CPU boost will make your system work harder for more demanding games. So that results in the device running at a higher temperature. The issue is, it’s always on and using more resources than it needs to, even with easy to run games. They actually made this a lot easier to turn off/on right inside your command centre now. I released a new video in January going over some of the newer updates, it’s worth checking out here: ua-cam.com/video/Gk1sYGKMtnE/v-deo.htmlsi=jXD4aWcu8w2LejZZ
Awesome, i always felt mine would get too hot
My updated video in Januaey 2024 makes things easier to access
Amazing video thanks!
Glad it helped!
Should I turn off cpu boost while playing GTA 5 and forza 5 ???
It depends on how the game performs. For example, I know games such as Cyberpunk don’t perform well with it off, so it’s better to leave on for more demanding games. If you bring up your FPS screen while you’re playing it should help see how it’s performing too. You can also play with various other settings such as the VRAM/GPU settings. ASUS added the cpu boost shut off as a clickable option in the command centre now 👌🏻
Where ya from pal? Me n the wife were trying to decipher it. Love the video. Cheers.
Newfoundland, Canada! What were your guesses? lol and thanks, I have some updated ROG Ally videos in 2024 🦇🎮
Hi, Why I only see performance in the power plan menu?
Try changing your ROG Ally to different modes and check each time you change it
@@batpixel I will thanks
Can you make a step by step on how to set up tge bios and emulators please.
There are a ton of videos on UA-cam about those specific things. I’ll have a video coming out in the next couple of weeks about recent updates
But it does a really good job on its own
So does anyone know if you should do this on the z1 to?
There’s an update now where you can turn CPU boost off and on using the command center buttons. So you can do it a lot easier now and safe. Check out my newest vid I show the updated way 👍🏻
When in a party using the game bar, the party audio come out of the ROG Ally speakers and not through the headset. Do you have a fix?

My ally only shows balanced and turbo???
I haven’t experienced this but someone else commented the same thing. Try changing your mode to performance and trying it again. Then change your mode to silent and try it again. See if those options become available. Make sure to do all your Ally’s updates as well
@@batpixel ok I’ll give it a go🤞🏽
how do you pause and restart a game on ROG ALLY like you can on a nintendo switch ?
I don't think it has a similar feature, as it is just literally Windows 11
@@batpixel so you don't know?
@@batpixel ok I’ll give that a shot I have it in pc mode on my tv. I’ll try it on my tv monitor
Let me know how it goes
I’ve watched UA-cam videos where people have external drives hooked up, so definitely watch a couple of videos on it for yourself
But like I said if they talk about losing performance from third party docks in any videos, check the date of the video, because the update for third party docks compatibility just recently released and it’s working
@@batpixel
Oh nice!

Not only
Does it feel better to hold and the controls are super good, but the games play absolutely flawless at a better quality and fps. I hope no one shorts themselves and settles for the steam deck, the rog is truly an amazing handheld!
Yeah I’ve been really enjoying mine! I’m glad I chose this over upgrading my home console
@@powerbelly211 what do you like more about the Steam Deck? I'm interested about the comparisons and user experiences
They are constantly working on updates and changing settings such as how the fans run during gameplay to keep it cooled down, so at least they are doing the right things for their customers and improving it
There are CPU intensive games that definitely suffer from limiting the boost , but you can have different profiles , or play with the settings , I found that just creating new manual profile in Armory Crate with all 3 values to same TDP will mostly have the same result , so I created a profile with 15W , another one with 18W and so on for 20W / 22W / 25W , if you game runs good with 18W makes no sense to stay on 20W or 22W
Very good point. I have another video in the works that gets into more detail for more demanding games
Awesome vid
Thank you!
You sound like a Newfie my friend, hello from a fellow Newfie if so. Great video, keep up the good work!
You got it! Thanks I appreciate that 👍🏻
Nice. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome video, but I am curious about one thing for the minimum/ maximum process state how would you go about setting each one?
I never changed those options at all. I only focused on disabling 'aggressive' but keep in mind that some games may need to be set at aggressive if you're not seeing the performance you desire. For specific games, I'd recommend searching forums or videos to see what other users have their settings saved as for the best performance and you can create Game Profiles for each game once you have it figured out like I mentioned in my Advanced Tips video
There is a simple click that you can do to disable cpu boost… why going inside the registry? Also I have perfect video output with a 5$ AliExpress dock. No loss in resolution or performances.
Check out the video upload date lol and that's a great deal on a dock
@@batpixel sorry 😞 my bad :)

Thank you! It's been fun to use so far. Handheld PCs are going to go a long way in the next couple years
I did the first tip but nothing happened the device still hot with 70 temperature
70 is pretty good as it is rated up to 95. You should see a reduction in your CPU usage. But if you’re not noticing a difference in temperature, I would suggest trying my tips in my second advanced tips video I released after this one. There are other options you can try depending on the game you’re playing
@@batpixel without ur tip also i get 70 maybe after the updates they fixed the issue
@djblackshadow22 yes very possible
ok so im going over this and I think this is great for running on battery but plugged in i have agressive fan curves and it dosent really matter. This is interesting.... Im AM seeing some much lower temps though on battery - wow! Im really suprised this wasent ASUS default, windows desktop idling in performnance mode is only drawing 5w @ 37c dang, this used to be in the 50's (c)
Yeah ASUS apparently max out their CPU settings on their devices, so it’s good to know how to disable/enable it when you need to
When is it a good idea to leave the aggressive option on? Like I'm Gotham knights right now and it looks fantastic in turbo mode...I haven't done tip one yet but I'd like to because anything that helps kover temperature is good for these handhelds...but I really don't want to lose performance ...so for ur 1st tip does it not affect most games? I know cyberpunk needs the aggressive setting on but to me thats a console or PC game I wouldn't want to play that on a hendheld ...rather play it on PS5
Lower* temperature
You should watch both of my videos showing tips for the Ally and also search other UA-camrs who offer these tips, especially #1, then decide what you’d like to do with your own
dude did the ally not fry your sd card? mines jsut got fried.
No mine has been fine especially after turning off aggressive when I don’t need it. But you’re in luck, ASUS just started a program where you can fully return it for another one or get your money refunded
@@batpixel return to ASUS ? Do you have link to that announcement ?
@@KelvinNV I read about it on Digital Trends. Appreciate it sounds like you play docked alot but do not recommend people to leave their devices on 60hz! AFAIK this disables VRR on the in-built display. Always leave it on 120hz even if you're at 50fps
Yep docked mode mostly for me, but I wouldn’t recommend people to leave it off 120 if they need it like you said
Why leave it off 120 ? Even if my external monitor supports it?
@@MPPC10 if your monitor supports 120 then go for it. I just don't need it when I play on my old TV, but if you can take advantage of it then definitely do so.
What about AMD updates???
My last update video was in January 2024 and a lot of this is easier to access now. I'll have a 1 year update coming out soon as well
Thank you for the tips. I am planning to buy a Rog Ally. But I am a bit confused between Steam Deck and this one. What would you like to recommend? N.B.: I hope that your channel will grow faster.
Ally is way better
@@lrs7677 Thanks!!
Thank you
Awesome tip! I may give that a try as well
@@batpixel it’s worth a try! It has a bunch of other awesome features as well. I definitely got a temp drop. It’s nice to be able to control your exact wattage and temp limits as well regardless if charging or on battery.
In the power plan, mine is already disabled 😮
With the new updates you should be able to turn it off/on right in your command center now 👌🏻 checkout my recent updates video for some more tips
I've ordered a ally and this is the kinda stuff that scares me, I am absolutely not technologically advanced 🤣 this is like some alien language
I released an updated video in January 2024 & another video recently called "one year later" they updated a lot of these tips to make it easier
good review
Thanks I appreciate that!
Can't you play words of tank games please try it thanks in advance 😊
It looks like you can yes. Check this out 😃 ua-cam.com/video/XxHYikxm1hs/v-deo.html
Some docks ;).
If you have the good ones with
100W power brick you're good to go.
There are some videos about the 100W docks and how they still lose performance. It seems like they will work at first glance but it has lead to disappointment for people
@@batpixel 😮💨
Good news! ASUS updated the Ally to work at full performance with third party docks!
Thanks for the amazing content and usefull informations !! However the tone of voice makes the video a bit annoying imo
I'm sorry my voice annoys you 😆 glad the video was helpful
CPU power mod didn't work for me. CYBERPUNK 2077 FPS dropped to high teens low 20s.
If you want to revert back, you have to do in exactly the reverse order.
Good to know it didn’t work for Cyberpunk! At least it’s easy to turn off/on if you need to
I run Cyberpunk at a locked 18w at 45fps with most options turned to medium
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 good to know! I'm also wondering how Cyberpunk would perform in docked mode with the official dock
Good help
Glad it helped you 👍🏻
Uh not really on the CPU boost if you plan on high end emulation. You actually need the extra power.
It depends on the game really. Some work flawlessly at a lower temperature, but some games like Cyberpunk need it on
Great video. Very helpful as well. Just picked this up yesterday and was kinda overwhelmed with how much u can do. New subscriber here
Glad it helped. I’ve been enjoying playing a ton of retro games and being able to try some new games as well. Thanks for the sub that helps the channel a lot
