In my head canon, Chula had originally been making that outfit for Taloa. She stopped when she died and pawned the sewing machine to Skully's shop because she was broken. She got the machine back and finished the outfit for Maya.
this apparently was supposed to be 6 episodes, but their budget was slashed- the intro with the people from the earth is the Choctaw believes of creation
Thinking about the moments where powers present themselves for Maya's family... They're all life and death/exile moments Chafa - the cave Lowak - the game Tuklo - the ambush Chula - Taloa's birth Taloa - healing the critically injured All of it was life and death
I never thought I’d hear Alison Krauss on a Marvel show…especially that song, and on a show this dark. That song is very special to me, my sister and father and I sang that together a cappella as the very first song of the very first show to kick off my ten year career as a singer/songwriter. Definitely got me deeeeep in my feels when it started playing.
God those scenes with Maya and Kingpin were tense and yeah he didn't hide anything from her btw I was kinda rooting for him when he was beating the hell out of that ice cream guy lol Z
I had the impression that the first season of Daredevil took place after the battle of New York, and he started wearing white in that season, but young Maya was here shown before 2012 and Fisk already in a white suit.
The channel A Bit of Everything has a great timeline breakdown of the timeline Defenders shows. It's an older video, before the shows were made canon, and he does plan on making a new one, presumably with the connections the recent appearances by Kingpin and Daredevil respectively, but the info in the old video is still good. It's currently in a playlist called "Legacy Marvel Timelines" I think, and there are also separate videos breaking down the timelines of the other Marvel Television shows, as well as the timelines of other Marvel properties outside the MCU.
I know this flashback sequence, the year 2008, the events took place where Tony Stark one day will become Iron Man in Marvel Studios' Iron Man (the first MCU Film that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and shaped the foundation for generations).
I have never lived on a Choctaw Nation piece of land but when old grandma offered a pop I felt it was a bit off because I was born and raised less than an hour from the Choctaw Nation and we clearly did not say pop or soda ANYWHERE, that is very much a wide-ranging many many States-wide thing. I clearly realize this is a first world problem and does not matter at all but just thought I would point this out. Maybe their culture says pop. I could be wrong.
It's so weird watching something from Marvel and the logo on a hotel to which you have been actually inside in real life is a bit weird. So, Choctaw Casino is cannon inside the Marvel Universe. How many companies can say that. To be clear I'm not saying I was inside the building on the show but I was in a real life Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma. I can't imagine how much tourism they'll get from this. I'm happy for them.
Very glad they changed Echo's powers from what they were in the comics. "Taskmaster v4.2" is a lazy power that was given to way too many characters by lazy writers in a short span of time.
Thank you so much for your awesome reaction! I just had to say something I never understood the killing the translator thing. So wasteful. Now you have to cover up a murder of a highly educated white-collar professional who has connections because that’s how sign language translators make their money by being available to people who need them. Kingpin would’ve gotten like a criminal accountant. Like a Wesley type. Who also knows ASL. They’re not rare. That just bugged me . Hired thugs are one thing, but there’s just not an infinite supply of translators out there that won’t be noticed .Anyway, thanks again!
I think it makes sense for Fisk - it's another demonstration of his power and access to resources that he can just kill whoever. I'm sure that translator was in the crime world like Wesley, too since she heard all Fisk's convos with Maya and didn't speak out or maybe it was a situation like in Daredevil S3 where Fisk had half the FBI on his payroll and could just kill them whenever and pin it on someone else. I'd assume killing an FBI HR person is harder to cover up than the death of a translator, so it didn't break immersion for me.
@@aprilshighfantasysoul5891 fair point. The man has murdered people publicly. He has power even the Mafia never did. … ( my question is, how did they communicate during that dinner? Later there was Kazi.) in any case I really appreciate your comment. Did you like the show in general or Vincent Donofrio performance? At this point I don’t think anybody else can play kingpin in my lifetime.
@@mathewaquino6304 I absolutely loved the whole show and D'onofrio is just the perfect kingpin - so glad they're making the Netflix stuff canon. As for how they communicated during the dinner after, Kingpin did pick up a little ASL, so I'm sure he was able to get enough of whatever else he had to say across, but he feels like the type of guy you have very tense, very awkwardly quiet dinners with XD There probably wasn't much talking after that. I'd assume the dramatic nature of the interpreter being sent out was TV language for 'we're the only ones we can trust' and we need to show that immediately, just like when people on phones don't actually say goodbye in movies - it's just to slightly skew reality to be punchy and condensed enough for TV.

Notice that Kingpin also said "Free me!" when he was urging her to kill him. He is a very interesting character, even if he is an absolute monster.

This was, for me, far and away the best episode of the show, and every episode has varied from good to great, to me.
Same!
This show has been a great example of the prodigal daughter returns and being torn between families/worlds. I've enjoyed it

You are crazy for thinking that ep 1’s fight choreography was bad. Loving the reactions.
I had the impression that the first season of Daredevil took place after the battle of New York, and he started wearing white in that season, but young Maya was here shown before 2012 and Fisk already in a white suit.
I loved this episode's use of "Down in the River to Pray". It's one of my favorite religious songs.

Kingpin is the Dadslayer.

I love all backstory about kingpin and maya
it's a different hammer ( on purpose? ) manipulation?

i kinda dont understand why they used ASL on the retina-thingy while they could just subtitle it as it translates..... but i guess this was flashier.

I'd like the show, but is it bad I wanted to see more of Echo being bad and maybe Echo joining Kingpin again?
Yes.
