    The yanks (of course) call this effect the 'vertical axis perception error'. It's very interesting and has helped me massively. I was hitting the cue ball to the left. This is very common with right handed players (left handed players will tend to hit it to the right).
    I fixed it by playing loads of straight stop shots and put a mark on an old cue ball. I first played about ten shots and every time the cue ball had spin, the same side. I played a shot that looked like I was using right hand side and the ball stopped like a statue. It's taking me a bit of time to readjust but it's becoming clearer!
    I like the sound of these balls, I might give them a try.

    Lootfieh from Stellenbosch South Africa. Your videos help me a lot in playing straight.Just one question... Are snooker balls supposed to be a tiny bit bigger than the balls at my local pool hall? They have normal English tables. Been playing blackball for a couple of months, but I'm an aspiring snooker player and have played a couple of games before.

    Hi Break from Life
    Gurdit from London here
    Quick question,. In snooker when we play with side it causes the object ball to be flicked off-course, does the same happen with american pool balls? I'm asking because I find using side in american pool fairly straightforward but in snooker I end up missing nearly every shot with side.

    • @Breakfromlife
      @Breakfromlife  4 роки тому

      It should be the same. Not sure if the cues, tips, cloth or size of the table would have an affect on that. Or the size of the balls. Have to try next time I’m near an American pool table

    Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada here. Recent subscriber and big fan! I've learned a lot so far, and appreciate all the effort, knowledge, and heart you put into all your videos!
    When I first started getting serious about billiards in general, I used a similar conceptual method to really exaggerate my errors--I just played fairly slow shots (on well levelled tables). If I missed, I slightly adjusted my aim points, keeping my posture the same and stable.
    I also recommend freezing the cue to a rail and shooting straight and slow at an object ball to train your eyes to know where the centre is and how to shoot it straight. All the best!

    Saw a youth group practice with these today at the club. They seemed to rate them quite highly. Also found out that the club I go to have poorly sized cueballs. A couple of tables had cueballs that's were a good 2 to 3 mm different in height when put between two red and a cue rested across the top. Is this normal, it is my club buying cheap cueballs? David in Norwich England

    • @Breakfromlife
      @Breakfromlife  4 роки тому

      Probably loads of clubs down my way did exactly the same thing. Played a whole game once wondering why one of the yellows was so small before realising it was off a pool table

  • @colincolenso
    @colincolenso 3 роки тому

    I told Break For Life he was swiping left on every shot weeks ago, I could have saved him 71 pounds. LOL FWIW, try using a 7mm tip diameter cue with a 4 inch bridge length on those ping pong balls and you'll make almost every shot, due to approximating the effective pivot point. A topic Break For Life has no idea about.

    • @colincolenso
      @colincolenso 3 роки тому

      For those who want a cheaper way to test cuing accuracy in the same way, just use a 13mm US Pool cue and bridge at around 15 inches. This will create a similar effect as hitting 20 gram balls with a normal snooker cue and standard bridge length. It will exaggerate squirt / or throw as the snooker players refer to it, from hitting the Cue Ball off center.

    • @Breakfromlife
      @Breakfromlife  4 роки тому +1

      I was trying this today actually. You can use the CueBall which will show if you are striking the CueBall in the centre. Then you can use the normal CueBall and the red to see if you are lining up the shot accurately. Has definitely helped with straight pots. Though it takes some getting used to and understanding. Especially when you start trying to play angled shots once you have got everything right

    80 euro! Absolute joker. Go looking in the kids' toys aisle for some play pen balls (if they're small ones) or some other toy that has hollow balls. You'll find something in the end, and it'll probably cost you about a tenner. You can also get a good idea of the cueball throw with a table tennis ball.

    hmmm... definitely looks like you put right hand side on there at 4:00 so maybe it wasn't that you were putting left hand side on but were actually aiming incorrectly to the right of the pocket?! It looks like your cue is pointing to the right of the pocket at the end of the stroke, so the right hand side pushed the ball to the left and it went in. ?? ??
    I think the spotted cue ball may be a good indicator of whether you put unintentional side on, playing a dead straight stun shot, if there's any side the ball will still spin slightly when it stops dead from the stun stroke... not that these light balls won't deflect massively with side I just think your demonstration may have been a bit flawed (sorry!)

      I wanted to talk more about this but was worried I’d be just giving away other people’s paid content for free. Basically there are about 15 videos that give you a different practice routine in each one. There are also assessments to help understand what you should be achieving. Even though the videos take too long to get to the point there is some good advice in them. As what to look out for and what the results of shots mean. Website isn’t put together very well and the assessment parts are very basic. It’s all the right ideas without being able to make it work full by the looks of it. Does say it will be updated though
