I worked behind the parts counter of a Ford dealership for 47 years...This is the best tutorial I've seen todate, both explaining and demonstrating the use of a tire tread guage..
I don't usually comment but thank you for this video. One of the top tier videos on tire life, and how to check them. Very informative, and straight to the point. Thank you.
Yo mani this is an absolutely CLUTCH video my man. I started my first day at a tire changing place and I asked the "manger" with 5 years of experience what 2/32nds was and I obviously should've put it together on my own but he couldn't give me an answer and told me to look it up. Unreal. You taught me more bout tires in 5 minutes than he did in 7 hrs
That’s probably the best explanation I’ve heard, the average new SUV tire is @ 10/32 so you can pretty much use the following numbers as percentages so if you’re at 7/32 you have 70% if you are at 4/32 you have 40% left etc. etc.
Fast and furious with the tire knowledge. Keep making these informative automotive videos regularly, like on cruise control, so we can gain better understanding of car details. Thank you for sharing your vast expertise on tires. See you in the winner's circle.
Thank you! This was helpful. I bought a tire tread depth gauge a while back but I was confused about reading the numbers. Forget that penny method, haha.
massive thank you - your guide is the best on You Tube - period ! yours is the only site which teaches to use the first number with line underneath, with this tool - the others say about taking a measurement but never explain how to take one. suspect they dont know either Top stuff !
Thank you so much I am a CDL driver wasn’t sure how to read all those numbers there’s a lot of bad videos out there that don’t get to the point thanks for explaining God bless
Great video, but the math is a little oversimplified. If the life of a tire that starts at 10/32 inch tread depth ends at 2/32, then for instance, a tire at 4/32 does not have 40 percent of its life left, it has 25 percent left (2 of the 8 32nds that can be worn down from 10 to 2).
No, his math seems right to me. You can use proportions for this type of stuff. If 10/32 = 100%, then you can cross multiply 2/32 with 100% and divide that by 10/32 and you get 20%.
Thanks lol bro. Had to watch like ten videos but noone really explained properly LOL I finished watching the other video about the tire pressure LOL bout to go check mines now!😂 Thanks! Take care bro
Love the Akatsuki theme song. So awesome !😂😂😂😂. Took me back to the best anime series of all time...less the fillers.👍 Hey thanks for the informative video.
Finally video that show me the tire gauge depth close up. So I didn’t know I’m supposed to spin it til first number ? Clockwise? And do we use the same set of numbers on the next? I was confused with all diff level of 32nd measurements on the tool
Nice vid man thank you I just realized my 11 year old tires have 9/32 tread left so probably I should just change them due to time and age of the tire even though they look just fine. 800 treadwear is genuinely built different
Thank you, just started a new job and wasn’t explained 100% on this. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Didn’t know I could turn the center part…. Thanks 😂
I tried to check my tire on my jeep, I thought you had to find the wear bar and measure from the top of the wear bar which i saw 7/32 . perhaps better than i thought they were
Nice video my man I appreciate it. I finally bought one of those little tools so I can measure my tread depth and your video really help me understand it. Thanks again.
Thank you it helps me to understand a tire life. I also would like to know if the tire I'm using was 2016 but the thread looks like it is still fine. Do I need to replace them? The mechanic saw some small holes on the tire
while there are some wear guidelines - conditions do determine a lot when it comes to when to change tires - for example you live in SoCal - it hardly ever rains - plenty of people driving on 2/32 with no problem (until it rains) but you live in Breckenridge CO and you get snow from October to May - I would change at or before 4/32
Yeah if your caliper is seized that means one side of the cars brakes will not function properly therefore the car will pull to one side when you use the brakes so whichever side has better braking the car will pull towards that side
Everyone forgets to mention the born on date on tire side wall of tires, dot followed by week of the year, now there using letters, can be found online, i believe rubber has a shelf life..
Yeah you're right normally you don't' want tires older than 7 years. I briefly mentioned age has an effect on the tire life as well but my main focus of this video was to show how to measure tire tread using the tread depth tool
I just bought use Michelin pilot sport cup 2 K2 tire and they have little under 7/32 mark or 6mm thread life left. For 110 was it worth it and how long will they last
This channel is very educational and I like your point of view on the subject. I wanted to know how fast can a tire tread wear on a tire that have 90,000 tread wear on it go
X_slap_my _nutz_X lol nice username ahaha and thanks for the feedback but if you’re talking about tread wear rating then usually the higher the treadwear rating the more stiff a tire is but you need to understand that if a tire is more stiff it will last longer because it won’t wear as fast as a softer tire BUT because it’s much more stiff it will crack easier with age so just because a tread wear is high doesn’t mean the tire will last long. I’ll probably make a video on this but the best way to extend the life of your tires is: proper tire pressure, proper tire rotation, proper alignment, and proper age of tire. These are the most important to ensure long tire life
@@ManiiZilla so as long as I'm keeping the proper air in the tire and putting tire shine on my tire making sure the sun doesn't cracked my tires. So how many times can i get an alignment on your car. So a old tire with a lot of treadwear doesn't mean anything cause the tire can still be bad or go bad? I never knew that
@@ManiiZilla some of these new tires be sitting on people shelves for a long period of time before they sell them and if they know the tire is bad why sell them. Rotate your rear tires to the front (make sure all tire sizes are the same before you do) the front of your car is usually heavier and that’s why your fronts are wearing faster and also because it’s most likely AWD and get your brakes serviced The technician will clean and lubricate your brakes (slider pins, deglaze the pads, and lubricate where the brake pads sit on the shims) and as for tire choices I’m not too sure which would be the best but always check reviews online and get a tire with a good tread wear rating And always make sure your tire pressures are the proper specifications otherwise you will consume more gas
Not every tire comes with 10/32” I just used that as an example. The tires you bought are probably summer tires and are low profile tires which usually come with less tread but have good performance
