Yep! You hit the mail on the head. The AT Pro is not that hard to set up if you know what you are doing. You hit all the key points. I would recommend everyone follow your advice to a T. The key to ocean hunting is to manually ground balance after you first auto ground balance it and to tune it to less than what it reads into auto by about 3 points or thereabouts. The ATP should then run quiet or just minimum noise. It works best in flat calm swimming areas. Wear Grey Ghost earphones instead of the crappy blue ones Garrett sells. GL & HH!

Great info! Been working with AT Pro for a long time, great machine but never reset it yet.. Couple of tips for yall:
Number 9 clean your coil protector, especially after a water or sea search.
Number 10 switch off your mobile phone (double usefull cause your lady can't mess up your search session :))
Number 11 high voltage cables might disturb your signals..

Thanks so much. I brought my AT Pro with me to the UK and after detecting in saltwater (bad idea with this machine, obviously) it started giving me chatter. The chatter never went away. With your permission, I'd like to make a video explaining these steps on how to fix it to my subscribers, and of course i'd give you full credit as you deserve it. Thanks for this! Very helpful! One more to add might be the simplest explanation of all...replace your batteries. I've had weird chatter start up before only to realize that my battery bars were running low.

I like the “coin” setting. I found hundreds of pieces of aluminum pop cans .
Dont use the coin setting. You will find nothing that way

Just got my new AT Max today after upgrading from my ACE 250. It has a LOT of chatter which brought me here. You find a way to tame it?

Does using a different frequency put less depth on your machine?
If your coils cracked. This wont work. But check the coil. That's another one. That was my problem yesterday.
I assume since my at max even goes crazy when there is no coil connected. I assume the control box is euchered eh?
Note: my pro would shut off when I laid it down. Sent it in and AT reworked the whole unit free of charge. Now that’s customer support!
i can't ground balance on ace300i
i had some that the cabel to the coil was broken , it gave the same effect totaly haewire
I will keep my eye out for that too!

If you have some cousins from Chadbourn, N.C. You and I might be cousins. There are a lot of Andrews running around both North and South Carolina I have never met! I live in South Florida and hunt the beaches every 2-3 days. Not a lot of treasure, but every now and then a ring will turn up.

I have had a couple of the stock coils go bad. I have an NEL right now and has lasted longer than the stock coil. Hitting rocks underwater does not help!
Just got my at pro .wish waited for the max.does the pro go on salt waters
It is very chattery around salt water. All the Garrett machines are. You can ground balance and cut sensitivity down and use it just not as effective.
Add sand and dirt in your coil cover.

Check the pod that the batteries go in for a loose wire/ connection

My at pro is acting weird when I plug in the headphones. Any advice.
Borrow someones else’s headphones and see if you get the same result.
The coil cover 2 when you're hunting at the beach and sand and other things get trapped between the coil and the cover so cleaning that out may help
Shouldnt your cable be closer to shaft...yours is just flappin around

Number 10. Remove the coil cover and clean it and the bottom of the coil.
How do you remove the coil cover
@@bbushert It's on there pretty tight. You have to work it off a little bit at a time as you go around the perimeter. If there's sand grains between the coil and cover it'll be even tighter. So be patient.
Thanks. However, I turned my at max on with no coil even connected and it was making the same noises. Factory reset does nothing. I guess the control box is euchered
I know how to get rid of the chatter junk it.
I had the misfortune to buy one of these machines from eBay £649 what a overpriced piece of junk I sold it after two detecting trips for £300 🤬
I did the same thing only more $ I was stupid enough to buy the AT Max :(
