Watching you build a truck bed out of scrap, chopping up a cherry picker and welding it to the back, all while drinking twisted teas and a ciggy hanging out of your mouth is why I watch this channel lol. Always entertaining. Watching I've learned that you know how to do stuff right just enough so that you know how to get away with doing it the wrong way but still make it work.

Dalton don’t be afraid to show his friends too. There are a lot of pussy fathers out there that refuse to get their hands dirty and have zero patience. So if that kid misses the boat you have the father, kid, and his kid down the road that aren’t involved in fixing the problem. Keep being a good dad. Trust me JD appreciates you very much you can see it on his face when you talk to him. Down the road his friends will too. Trust me….

It really is a nice thing to see someone wrenching on a car with his son. I would've killed for this when I was a kid but my dad was a Jarhead who's only interests were Jack Daniels, yelling and punching holes in the walls. I unfortunately can't have kids so I let my nephew help me when I'm out in the garage. He's autistic but cars calm him down for some reason. He always begs my sister to bring him over so he can help me fix cars. I enjoy it a lot 😃

Seeing you hold up that old picture of you as a kid standing by your truck, then dropping it to show your son doing the same hit me in the feels. I'm glad you got it back, because it's hard to put a price on nostalgia, especially when you can make new memories like that later in life. Personally, I think she deserves a little love, man. I think your use-case for it is great, and I wouldn't go crazy either. But some decent tires, make the doors close, bumper and lights, starter and clutch, and maybe a touch of brakes. It's cool that your kiddo has a chance to learn on it just like you did!

Hello Dalton, A friend of mine who was an old school mechanic for many years always claimed that the best remedy for the Dodge & Chrysler engines with the valve lifters was Risilone oil treatment. Most of the Dodge/Chrysler parts departments according to my friend, the dealerships sold that product to mix with the engine oil. The sticky lifters were a really bad problem several years ago.
I really enjoyed seeing you get the old Dodge back up and going again, But good luck getting a decent engine hoist these days.

I replaced the oil air filter with a single sponge from ebay for cheap and also did a front brake disc conversion.. don't hesitate to ask about other changes. I also have two carbs and swap them every couple of years for rebuild.. Good job Guys..

She's always saying that she doesn't get why I do it cuz it always puts me in a bad mood. It's the end result, putting something someone threw away or forgot about back in working condition and putting it to work. All the anger, busted knuckles, missing tools in the woods I give my kids 5 bucks a piece to go find is always worth the end result,a stupid toddler like smile and some burnouts to make sure the work is done right. I enjoyed seeing you really appreciate buying back this old truck and savoring all the memories you had of it. I could tell you appreciated what a great old work horse it was and still is. What really got me is seeing you let your son drive it, learning how to work the clutch and let it creep along. I was glad to see you make the original engine live again! Bravo!

Some excellent camera work, and one shot of JD and new old car, and you, as a young Dalton next to the original, was beautiful. Fathers and sons can be complicated, and for me was less than ideal - but JD will remember this for the rest of his life - and the cherished memories no one can take from him. Well done Dalton. You're my hero today.

Both you and JD are worker Bees. JD is great getting good camera angles. I wander Dalton why you got the bed on the truck so fast and then I realized it was because of your Mother telling you all the time to take care of your bed. I love the old trucks and the history they represent. This was another Pole Barn classic episode.

I'm new to your channel, and I have to tell you how immediately IMPRESSED i was with your son!
His joyful enthusiasm and willingness to jump in and work are extremely rare; not only for a boy his age, but even for people much older and more experienced than he is now.
I LOVE the effort he devotes to identifying the silver linings/bright sides to situations that arise too.
He's a great kid Sir, and will become a great adult. Give him and yourself a good pat on the back, and then keep pushing, grinding out the projects together. It's clear HE loves doing it with you too.
This is building a firm foundation for his future. He will surely build upon these experiences to do great things throughout his life.
What a seriously great little dude..

You should make sure you have a strong beam in the new shop your building, that way you can just get an electric hoist and save money not buying cherry pickers😊 it wont cost much to have one beam installed so yu can have a strong lifting point. Because To be completely honest with you, I built a lift, out of 2 I-beams and a semi truck air brake and axle and I cemented the axle into the shop floor and and I have a heavy duty electric hoist the heavy duty one harbor frieght has, and it picks up engines and basically everything, its how I store parts on the second floor, once you connect the air-line to the axles air brake it releases and I can rotate the hoist 360⁰ and the hoist controls hang down near the lifting hook, but I have an expensive cherry picker at my shop and I have the heavy duty cherry picker from harbor frieght (not the cheap one, they offer two different cherry pickers, I got the heavy duty one) and it works just as smooth and has picked up the same amount of weight as the nice one I have at the shop. The only thing I did to the one at the shop, was get an air driven jack for it, so I can press a button and it goes up and down😂 💙💙

Dalton this was a real treat for me to watch. Thank you for such quality content. At the age of 19 I begrudgingly sold my first car, a 1967 Firebird 400 that I procured at the age of 14. But, I managed to hold on to the first vehicle that I drove, a 1977 Chevy Silverado short bed 4x4 with a granny 4 speed and a 12 bolt with a posi. That truck has served me and my family well since the early 80's when my dad first brought it home. It got me "there and back" from every fishing trip, camping adventure, hunting trip, and firewood retrieval mission. I fully respect your desire to keep the poly 318, though I can't help but wish you would do a dingle ball rebuild and re-ring it. Of course with the amount of oil blowing by it's more than likely that an overbore would be in order...perhaps a $400-$500 junkyard "magnum" 318 with a carb swap could serve as content for an upcoming episode.

Thank you for this. I really needed this video. I laughed so hard when you flung that oil bath air cleaner near the beginning and I hadn't laughed in days. Also the look on your face when the engine blocked slipped out of the chain and fell back into the bed of the other truck had me laughing so hard. Thank you for pulling me out of my misery with this brilliant video and I am glad you got that truck. There are probably a multitude of memories made with that truck and memories are priceless and now you can make more memories with JD in it. JD is very fortunate to have you as a father and he is very sharp. Looking forward to the next one as always.
