I just saw the three-way comparison by TMReviews of this against the Zeta and MMC offerings. Your critique regarding the lack of detail is understandable, but when compared to the other two offerings, it does show there are options for those wanting more lines and greebles. The Zeta does seem to have aged badly, while the MMC seem to make too many sacrifices for the all-in-one gimmick. For those waiting for the inevitable Fans Toys, this makes a very respectable stand-in. In fact, I would ay that for those who would want two sets of Combaticons for combined and individual modes, the MS makes a very attractive (and affordable) case for one of the uses.
looking at Fanstoys recent approach, I doubt there will be much lines and greebles either. Fanstoys would probably win on the premium paint jobs, diecast parts and hefty weight.
Pegging the dovetails of the turret into the top of the upper body is very easy if you do it before you fold the head into the chest. Once the head is in the chest you don’t have room to flip the turret down, but if you peg the turret in before flipping the head in the chest you have room for the long rotating piece to be down in the chest and easily clip the dovetails in without any stress, then flip the head in.
Spot on with the soft plastic/inconsistent hip ratchet. I noticed it last night as I was trying to pose him. Overall, it's a solid figure. I have faith that future releases will only improve.
I found using the heel spur/gas tank in the back of the foot helps with posing with a leg back with no toe up. It puts him on his tip toe, but can balance it out with the heel spur.
Magic Square will be my go to company for combiners. Just like mini version the MP Brute will be able to stand and not untab when you move arms unlike FT whose curse is too much diecast!
Hey Bobby, while this is off-topic figure wise, I figured I’d ask: do you know or have caught wind of any MP Optimus’ that can be compatible with a mp megatron arm. Obviously for skybound a representation, or have you heard of any 3rd party companies planning to capitalize on a megatron arm kit?
I still personally prefer MMC's with it's more stylised, detail heavy/realism look but this figure is spot on for it's purpose of an MP Sunbow accurate figure. Fully agree on those ratchets for the hips though, would even say the shoulders aswel. Far too tight and could've been done much better.
Yeah i made that mistake with the hips and a chunk of plastic went babye. First time i handled it and learnt the hard way, hopefully people see this before playing around to know what to avoid as its very easily done especially on first play around.
Zeta's is still the superior Brawl to me. Massive size, great sculpt, and while the working treads arent that important to me, it's still commendable they made it work.
The turret bit is a lot easier to do if you do it before you fold the head into the chest. And you neglected the rear lights, too! Why is every reviewer missing out the rear lights?
THIS is the C/Toon color, the only thing not toon about it is the grey foot, and MS have stated that there could be a separate Combiner parts option without duplicated bots, but subject to change
At this point complaining about cartoon accuracy is like complaining about the smartphone industry and saying I want my phone to have just a dial, snake as a game and keep it small.
I think this is the perfect Brawl. All I want are screen/show accurate bots and this walked right off the screen. The lack of detail is the point which means they nailed it. I can’t stand the figures that add a bunch of visual noise that shouldn’t be there. I sure as heck don’t want realistic tank detail on my Transformer for children.
Yeah it's a fine line with the blend of reaslistic/toon. So I'm fine with no sculpting on some parts/areas, but do enjoy more sculpting on others. It is a tough dance. I think magic square is nailing it though.
It's not just this guy but most modern 3 p figures they've gone to far with the cartoon accuracy for me personally and just look boring paint and sculpted detail wise
Looks good, but this seems to have the typical issue that most Magic Square MP sized figures have. That issue is the poorly constructed hip ratchets. Their MP 2.0 Prime was plagued by that issue. Odd that Magic Square wouldn't have improved on that.
Honestly folks, this isnt MasterPiece...MP is RL Accuracy with Toonish Bot Representation (Look at Your MP10 and MP17). This is Anime Accurate in MP Scale, the less is more/better Cheapening of MP scale Transformers is just exactly that. Like Bobby always said, "If you like it, You win."
It's Masterpiece scale...but not MP quality. Super toon to a detriment. No weight and lacks those premium details. I like it but its not for my collection.
im sorry but those hands are some of the best in the business..

Damn, you nailed it. I'm definitely going with these guys for my bot mode representation as I intend on keeping my Zeta.
looking at Fanstoys recent approach, I doubt there will be much lines and greebles either. Fanstoys would probably win on the premium paint jobs, diecast parts and hefty weight.
I personally agree with Bobby, but you can't blame MS for giving people what they want and for what they're going for
"Waiting" for the FT verison is going to require Ponce de Leon's fountain of youth I'd think.

I seriously had no idea Magic Square was doing this.
For a little over a hundred it's perfect and much more toon accurate than the other companies brawl..
I'm in the ball park of I give no care for G1 accuracy, but I love some articulation and this guy has it.

Thank you for the review. It seems like you were in a groove with this review. The one-liners were popping off
It looks pretty good. I am an MMC fan when it comes to combiner bot mode.

25:44 any one else heard Duck Tales not DoveTails? 😄
Great cartoon

Robert D-face sticker is hilarious
Reaffirms my initial thoughts, good, but not knock my socks off good, which would prompt me to swap.
I just picked up their ms02ex it has the same weird hips issues.
Just in case anybody was curious, I think that tank looks like an early Centurion tank or elite model Churchill tank
The hands look amazing.
Yeah i made that mistake with the hips and a chunk of plastic went babye. First time i handled it and learnt the hard way, hopefully people see this before playing around to know what to avoid as its very easily done especially on first play around.
*to the melody of DuckTales* Dovetails, woo-ooh! Magic Square is using lots of Dovetails!
You were right the first time..Definitely a race car
It is missing the mount canon on the back of the tank.
Dovetails are to keep him solid for leg mode
I like this but not enough to swap out ocular max.
Great review Skully! This has the best bot mode. MMC tank mode is superior. Shout out to Dennis!
Im actually surprised you're liking this mold compared to the UniqueToys. Thought that has more of the detailing you go for.
Zeta's is still the superior Brawl to me. Massive size, great sculpt, and while the working treads arent that important to me, it's still commendable they made it work.
Brawl is so cool.
The turret bit is a lot easier to do if you do it before you fold the head into the chest.
And you neglected the rear lights, too! Why is every reviewer missing out the rear lights?
looks kinda like an old idf centurion/strv
I know if I bought this. The next day Fanstoys reveals a Brawl lol.
FT's Brawl will have the articulation of a G1 brick
Looks nice, but I'm waiting for the toon version. I know what Magic Square are like.
Are you talking about Bruticus? Because this is the toon version
@@baxterstockman2191 Compared the MS Legends releases, this is the toy/idw version. Toon has a more olive colour scheme with a matching foot.
THIS is the C/Toon color, the only thing not toon about it is the grey foot, and MS have stated that there could be a separate Combiner parts option without duplicated bots, but subject to change
@@sussyjack877 Ahhh, wasn't aware of that. Sorry.
Ik ik ik but I would love a vs between this guy and MMC 🤦🏾♂️
At this point complaining about cartoon accuracy is like complaining about the smartphone industry and saying I want my phone to have just a dial, snake as a game and keep it small.
Yeah, it comes down to if the figure succeeds in what it was made to do.
@@Levi_52_336 well this one did:)

You’re spot on here. If it’s too “extra” on detail it’s a hard pass from me. That includes some of Hasbro’s offerings as well
Yeah it's a fine line with the blend of reaslistic/toon. So I'm fine with no sculpting on some parts/areas, but do enjoy more sculpting on others. It is a tough dance. I think magic square is nailing it though.
I'm not into masterpiece due to space buuuuut anything combaticons is a win🎉
try a stretcher instead
If it was a bit heavier it would be perfect imo.
It's not just this guy but most modern 3 p figures they've gone to far with the cartoon accuracy for me personally and just look boring paint and sculpted detail wise
I wonder what all of these so to speaks really are. Is there a code book somewhere? Haha just giving you shit.
I'm not getting this as I love my mmc combaticons but I will get their onslaught bcos mmc's is too big due to it being an all in one combiner
Looks good, but this seems to have the typical issue that most Magic Square MP sized figures have. That issue is the poorly constructed hip ratchets. Their MP 2.0 Prime was plagued by that issue. Odd that Magic Square wouldn't have improved on that.
Easy skip for me, I'm sticking with MMC

Why is the build quality so dubious?
I don't even know how the quality of a build can be dubious. But a bargaining posture,...that can definitely be dubious.
It's Masterpiece scale...but not MP quality. Super toon to a detriment. No weight and lacks those premium details. I like it but its not for my collection.
Seem extremely plain and simple. As such 115 bucks seems like a total rip off for it.
