- Sometimes it rains, sometimes it pours. Where's the snow? This shouldn't be winter! I'm dreaming of large snow drifts, peaceful whiteouts, snowed in roads, quizzes snow shelters, cozy wood fires. Well, I got that last one anyways! Despite the weather, there's lots to celebrate- my son getting his own artwork screen printed on a t-shirt, a good breakfast, an amazing sunrise. Sometimes you have to focus on what's good, instead of what's bad. Ya know? OK. I'm done whining.

It is interesting how weather affects people differently. I love winter - I love the gray, I love snow, and rain (I don't love the dangerous road conditions, but that's just a side-effect of the weather). I often get grumbles from people when I express how much I love the gray 'gloomy' days.

OMG this reminded me of how I was raised as a child, I love how you love the sun, On the islands, the sum would come up out of the sea it seems, and we never paid any attention to it. Great video Brooke! I can tell by your interaction with your son that you are a great Mom.I can't stress enough the importance of a mother's love for her kids. It makes a huge difference in a child's life. Just look around and see all the kids that don't have that in their lives. It's sad. My Mom past away December 20, of last year and I miss her dearly. She was a great Mom and those memories will be with me forever. I'm sorry for being so sappy but I think it helps me to share. Take care and keep doing what you're doing. Larry

Not sappy at all Larry!!! My mother died at the age of 26, leaveng 3 young kids. I was nine my brother 5 and baby sister a year and a half. I totally agree that Brooke is a wonderful mom!!!🤗🥰😁
I love how you’re raising your kids to be adventurous and grateful for the truly important things in life. I love it. My mom raised 4 of us and I raised 4 sons. It’s challenging but the best. This is Michigan weather I remember & since my dad had polio in 1950, he moved the family to CA in 1961. Both parents were teachers & got jobs teaching in Garden Grove & for the school for the blind. My mom was a visually handicapped teacher. The weather was good & no ice to put up with & we survived with just rain. I now live in CO & have my 4 seasons again. The circle of life is now back with me.
Like you, I can’t stand too many days of gloomy weather. Enjoy what you can, what you cannot don’t force your self.

Brook God Bless you. I am a Sr. And kids moved away for work. Had severe Arthritis. My digs kept getting out my fence and yard need work . I could not do it. But I remember all the video of you building. I have always admired you and prayed fir you. I got out there and repaired my fence and other working my yard. I kept seeing you building the cabins. How you just kept going. Because of you I am proud of me. I tell my kids Brook is a bad Girl and a tuff cookie, and I mean that with the highest respect. Praise God.
Vlogging is going good 😊 I tell you the weather's been crappy down here in lower Michigan too. Accept until today we haven't had any snow for a while. It's so funny when the sun shines so many people I know get headaches because we're not used to it during the winter so much. But I loved watching your sunrise that morning it was awesome. I feel the same way when I see the sun coming up or the sun going down. I always find myself thanking God for the wonderful feeling that it gives me from His creation! Can't wait to see what more your son does. He has some major skills going on there. What a tremendous video. So organic and real. So many of us can relate to your winter whoas. Even for those of us that enjoy winter and cold and snow can get dragged down by a stent of gloom and ice. Whenever I get down about the cold dog days of winter I think of the Shackleton story "ENDURANCE". Those guys survived so much hardship. I realize they would have loved to have enjoyed one of my "Bad Days" in exchange for one of their "Bad Days". Anyway I love your channel because you are sensing and feeling to your environment. I feel much the same in that I love to feed my wild birds and take so much joy in caring for my little flock of chickens.....sadly I only have 6 and can't have roosters. I loved that you were comfortable enough to share your experience with your son, what a cool kid. You can tell that he's a good egg. Doing some screen printing was a good way to take your mind off of the ice for a bit. And just think about how much more we appreciate the Sun when it has been eluding us. This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Emerson, "If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown! But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile." Such it is with your Sun. Wow! I remember ice like that in Central Oregon so slimy and slick , that if I could not at all walk on it, I knew I wouldn't dare drive on it. Very talented son. Great sunrise! We had a lot of ice on top of our snow. It was terrible getting anywhere. It makes you look towards summer. Every season has it good with bad. When you live way out you learn to adjust. All I can say is look forward to spring then summer!

Cool shirt! I use to love the days when I was young where it looked like a glass Oz when it rained and covered everything in ice but then the sun would shine on it in the morning making everything sparkle. Beautiful sunrise!

😂I'm with you on the gray, foggy, cold, crappy days! I too am powered by the sun. I can't get out like you do, I'm 89% disabled and currently looking at a surgery or 2 on my back. Keep your chin up, spring is on its way. Forget what's going on outside after you do your chores and play with projects inside like the screen printing and leather or jewelry or bead work. Busy hands are happy hands and it makes time fly by!
when i have been child we have every year snow-going skiieng and doing such things-this year a friend of me said-i go to the mountains because the children never had have snow-thats now since 10 -15en years nothing-just like you discribed.....world is changing !

Yeah this Northern Michigan mess of ice is horrid. I am in the Alpena area, and we got 10 inches of snow at New Years and were able to play for a few days, but not everything is nasty ice!

Northern Michigan is like that. I lived in Alpena for 2 years. Summers were amazing, winter not so much.

I have taken 1/4" hex head sheet metal screws and put between 7 to 10 screws in my winter shoes and boots. No more slipping and sliding. I am 71 and slipped and fell 2 years ago because I forgot to grab my shoes that I have setup. My mailman and neighbor thought I broke something but I was lucky that time. With you out there by yourself, you need to try it. If you lose one it's easy to replace but not broken bones.
If there was an Emergency, would you Stay home? NO. ; just take it in stride, in season and out of Season, and count your blessings, OK?
Miserable outside but I have to say your hair looks gorgeous! Pileated woodpeckers are one of my favorite birds.
I love living vicariously through other people's birds. You know, the one's I'll never see in my region? Loved those woodpeckers. We get a few Downys where I live in Utah. I have been sad seeing what is left in my hummingbird feeder, frozen, sad, no hummingbirds for the next few months. Then I took a short trip to visit Palm Springs over Christmas and the hummingbirds were EVERYWHERE!!! I invited them to my place in April.....we'll see how many show. Have a great day.

I was raised in Texas. I lived in Michigan for a few years as an adult. Michigan is like that almost every year for as long as I remember from weather reports I recall. That's the reason why Texas and Florida have Snowbirds (Old people from the north spending winter in the south is a Snowbird).
Winter in South Texas is nothing more than a series of cold snaps. Early on, a cold front comes in drops the temp to freezing on Monday. By Friday, it's in the 60s or 70s. I love it. As winter progresses the cold snaps are more frequent. But by March 1st, the snaps are almost over and it warms up nicely. Spring is wonderful. But the summers can kill you. It's so hot, sleeping is almost impossible until October.
