@Da Comedian it's not really about giving him excuses, he's a murderer and that's that. But it gives the context, some level of understanding of him as a human being and what may have led him to become the murderer.
@Da Comedian clearly your life is so easy and truly stress free you can't fathom how someone could do these things. You live an easy life, don't try to play the moral high card when you have little to no struggles to actually have to overcome negative and troubling thoughts
@@devbo1385 there have been studies that link frontal lobe damage to violent crimes and sexual perversions like pedophilia that are pretty interesting to read
I don’t find it that far fetched actually considering it’s an urban area. When I lived in LA here are some things that happened to me: sexually assaulted twice, had to jump out of the way of 2 moving cars, a drunk driver hit me when I was stopped at a traffic light then made it a hit and run, a man followed me in broad daylight, and I’m sure lots of other stuff that isn’t coming to mind at the moment. I will never live in an urban area again, so glad I’m in a normal place now.
I lived in the south Bronx at that time (if you watch the movie Fort Apache with Paul Newman), I know all those areas. I used walk around at night 2,3,4,5 in the AM. Run my uncle's store when I was 13 yo with my 14 yo cousin. Nothing happened. No one was robbed, raped, burglarized, nothing. Used drugs, nothing. Some of my fondest memories growing up. I think it just a lot to do with the family you grew up with. We were respected as a family.

5:49 What exactly is strange with a mother bathing her kid, even among other women in a public shower? That this is strange seems more like an expression of American culture's conflicted views on nudity. Just going by this short story, this wouldn't be considered so unusual in Sweden that it would be considered something that would conribute to the child becoming murderer.
Sebastian Frintzer Yes, I agree. I’d take our young sons (5 and under) into the female change rooms at the public swimming pool. What else would you do? Send them alone into the mens? No way!
perhaps he felt shame about being bathed (rather than washing himself) in front of group of women. instead of being related to nudity it would be the feeling of being emasculated in front of a group of women, that is to say that being treated as a baby at an age where children start to develop a more independent personality and a need to assert their independence.
I am also confused as to why this is a big event. This used to be a relatively normal thing. How is this 'event' important in turning him into a serial killer?
Stumbled about that one too. Pretty normal for most parts of Germany (or Europe in general). I mean, it's a 5 year old child and not some teen boy. Seems to be some "American" thing...

Hey, thanks, Dr. Grande! I’ve really enjoyed your serial killer series. Thanks for creating such educational and fascinatingly distracting content during a time when staving off boredom and frustration is so vital.
Interesting choice of words. "head shots in your video" could have made it clearer lol. Perhaps your intention was reaction - which really worked. Either way, this has been the most interesting comment I've seen on a social media platform today. #lockdown
Thank you, Dr. Grande, for your insightful analysis of the Son of Sam killer. I actually find his story to be sad and tragic- he could have been a perfectly nice, intelligent man if not for his dysfunctional, violent childhood.
It was his love of fat blonde women, and the frustration of being unsuccessful at finding enough of them to cater to his whims that sent him over the edge
I’d love to see you talk about Israel Keyes. Ice cold predator and loving, doting father - a breakdown of how these could fit together would be fascinating.
@@DonnaLena1 Same here. I lived In Anchorage when Keyes kidnapped that young lady out of a coffee hut & murdered her. I will never forget that night. Dr. Grande's analysis of him would be very interesting.
@ Kate Oats. Yes quiet chilling knowing that monster kidnapped that young lady 15 minutes away from my home & that we crossed paths with him in the stores & places In Anchorage. I will be chiming In when Dr. Grande does his analysis of Keyes. Stay well & hang in there. Covid 19 Is a different kind of monster. Never seen anything like it.
Thank you for the video on Berkowitz. I think you videos really provide a glimpse into the darkest corners of human mind but it strikes me how ethical, objective and non-judgemental you manage to build your narrative. There are straight facts, informative analysis and conclusion. I also think that your way of presenting is very well-paced which makes it very comfortable to listen to. Thank you for your work! I don't know if a serial killer - Andrei Chikatilo has crossed your sphere of professional interest and whether you have heard of him. His surname has actually become a synonym of a serial killer in the countries of the former Soviet Union. He was that notorious. I would like to see a video with his personality and mental health analysis, in case you see it fit.
Read : The Ultimate Evil: The Search for the Sons of Sam - one of the scariest books I have ever read. It theorizes that Berkowitz did not act alone but was aided and forced to commit these crimes by the sons of Sam Carr. - - VERY scary book if true.
this case always makes me think of the elliott smith song about him... "son of sam, son of a doctor's touch, a nurse's love acting under orders from above king for a day" a gorgeous song (all of his music is stunning but... i'm sure i'm biased) stay safe + well, these videos are always a treat that i'm sure everyone is just that much more grateful for in these times
@@qazzell I just re watched a snippet of an interview he did with Larry King in the late 90's - out of the two of them he came across as the most likeable haha. Do you know where he got the scar on his neck from?
Brilliant analysis Dr Grande Phd. I lived in Queens, NY , during the Berkowitz .44 caliber killer who terrorized NY City from 1976-77. It was the height of the Disco Era, many young people going out dancing at discotheques. 📀💿📀
*Attention* . His excessive need for attention drove him then, and he's still driven by it now. He's the son of hope now because although he's Jewish, being a Jesus preaching bible pastor, he's found a way to feel important. He holds bible meetings with inmates who look up to him. Why _would_ he want to leave prison? If he were out he'd kill again eventually because attention dies down sooner or later. It could easily be argued hat his belief that he's some mouthpiece for a deity goes to show that he's still as disconnected as when he was worshipping the old scapegoat - Satan. Thank you, Dr Grande! 🌹👍
Grandiosity is his vice, but irrational disgust exhudes from your comment, destroying your point. Think about why he killed pairs of people- there must be a reason for it.
Respectfully, I must disagree. There are vast numbers of "born again" Christians, new Muslims, & Buddhists in prison systems around the world. Most of those newly religious people have their own "prison church." Usually inmates use that religious label to try to get probation/parole. Since Berkowitz isn't getting out of prison, & he will always be famous, I think that there might be some other reason for his little "church." Heck, maybe the other cons are "tithing" their commissary to Berkowitz in return for religious instruction.🤷
I agree with you Elisa and I would add that for people who claim to be Christian (Berkowitz and Chris Watts) there is that powerful attraction of no matter what they have done, they are forgiven. I am not the least bit surprised when people who are incarcerated find religion, and in fact think the penitentiary is the perfect place for people like Berkowitz and Watts. However, that said, I believe they are both in the grip of Satan.
Seems like he was better when in the army and in prison. Is there something about people who are institutionalised, needing external rules to operate, that you could analyse?
This is a good observation. Berkowitz admitted that he liked being institutionalized in one of his interviews because it's more structured and not having to worry about the everyday hassles and noise of life and being yelled at by a boss and having bills .
As always, an interesting video. 👍🏼💖 It will be interesting to see if the current CTE research in athletes leads to brain injury as a cause of, or major contributing factor to personality disorders.
Love these analyses. Have you given some consideration to the analysis of Michael Peterson "The Staircase murder". I would love hear your conclusions on that one !
I vividly remember my dad pulling our stationwagon over &it being searched ( NYS thruway) by the State Police, FBI... The authorities were on a Manhunt! As a teenager& being a female I felt esp. Vulnerable...my parents were suddenly 'Woke'&our freedom gone! The 70's in NY were no joke! Pedophiles/ pimps would follow we girls trying to coax us into their black caddies, lincolns etc ...A very dangerous time for children! Drugs, Rapes& general violent behavior were seemingly everywhere!
This was very well researched, especially impressed with the accuracy of the information regarding the weapon used with respect to the fact of it being a 44 special, not a 44 magnum. Either you know guns or researched this very thoroughly. Well, done sir.
As a Georgia gun enthusiast, I picked up on this when I was following all of this in 1977. No big deal, but as at the range he was killing these people, a .44 Special was plenty. It's funny, but as I recall, from NYC's Sullivan Law (the strictest in the country), the authorities had already matched the bullets being fired by that exact type and brand of revolver, and it had been registered to Berk. right there in NYC, but they still couldn't locate the actual owner. So much for gun laws.
Thank you for this interesting analysis. Having just viewed a 2015 nine-parter featuring Berkowitz alone, you provide a very different perspective (starting 1400+ fires indeed!) If he is psychotic, it's only mildly so - he comes across as quite normal, likeable, even. I think he had a fascination for the dark side of life, which he felt compelled to explore. I also think he craves attention (it's amazing, considering he's been incarcerated for over 40 years, how many videos featuring him are available to view online). In the final analysis, he, unlike many other serial killers, is remorseful & is trying to atone, to the point of declining the offer of parole & should be given credit for that.
I agree. I really don't think he's a psychopath at all. He's quite intelligent and likeable. I just watched the Netflix documentary and several interviews he's done over the years. I believe he's remorseful. He's up for parole every 2 years but he doesn't want to be released. He's so institutionalized now I doubt he would ever be able to survive out here. He and probably everyone else is better off with him staying right where he is. He's making a difference in prison.
Berkowitz and the .44 Caliber case is fascinating to me. Can anyone recommend a good book in the case (not Ultimate Evil) which details the crimes and Berkowitz himself? What I see on Amazon seems lacking.
He has been a Christian for nearly 40 years now and is a different person. Several of my ministry friends know him well and he is the real deal. He accepts full responsibility for his crimes and has helped many people over the years, including getting forgiveness from some victim families. Look up Son of Hope, that is what he goes by now. God is so good ❤
There is way more to this story. Than just berkowitz. The book The Ultimate Evil is fascinating. I’m not sure if it’s all true but the author makes a very strong case.
I like your videos and your approach to how you tackle these subjects. They are very informative, and don’t seem to be just pulled out of the air like some other channels appear to do. I haven’t seen any serial killer couples mentioned yet - would you consider tackling two of the serial killer couples who “scarred the nation” in the UK: Myra Hindley & Ian Brady, and Fred and Rose West. I would be particularly interested in your take on the role of the women in both of these partnerships: were they merely manipulated pawns, equally invested, or actually the master manipulator? Edited: as I used a phrase incorrectly lol
This case was the first time I was mature enough to comprehend what a serial killer was about. I was 12 at the time and remember seeing this in the news. Seeing the interviews of people and how frightened they were. Then they apprehend him and it seemed such a emotional let down. He seemed such a loser. By that I mean someone weak and as far from scary as possible. He always seemed to be smiling/smirking in the photos. It really made me mad.
For me it was the Moors muderers, Krays news reports on the infamous American serial killers and Yorkshire Ripper the list is endless really it's never stopped
Would ;ove to hear your take on the Maury Terry investigation and allegations that Berkowitz was in an occult group, that the real sons of Sam Carr were part of that group, and that Berkowitz did not act alone.
This guy doesn't have the Wherewithal. He's not a great researcher. It also sounds like he didn't really listen to much about what David had to say, but more of what people had to say about David. At least you are well read.
Check out Manny Grossman’s UA-cam channel for amazing NEW evidence in the Son of Sam case. The cult connection evidence is overwhelming, showing that Berkowitz did NOT act alone.
you are the first person in all the years I have been studying true crime that has gotten the correct caliber of the charter arms bulldog. I actually carry one of these in the pug model as a backup. good job Doc.
I've always been curious about Son of Sam but never really sat down to look him up. This is such an interesting introduction to the topic. It sobers me to notice the correlation between inappropriate maternal behavior and serious mental illness (not implying causation, but it surely doesn't help). Anyway, thanks for another great video.
Comment two: 65 views. So far this week you have done done three serial killers ( Shipman, 17,352 views, BTK, 25,309 views, Kaczynski, 24, 217 views) and two female killers (Routier and Smith). I’m amazed how you analyzed well how each of these were caught, in addition to the mental health analysis. One thing I wonder is why he had no substance use or drug use disorder. Thankyou for the great analysis, especially his proliferation with setting 1,400 plus fires and recording them. You have a great way of detail. Thanks Dr. Grande, I learned lots. 😄😃😀
Hello Dr.Grande I am a big fan of your work, especially these mental health & personality analysis’. I would love to see you make a video on the mental health and personality of punk rocker GG Allin. If you have not heard of him, I urge you to look into it as I’m sure you will find him fascinating, and I personally would like to hear your perspective. Thank you and good day!
What about Ozzy Osbourne? He was genetically tested and they found mutations that were very interesting. They did translate into behavioural effects too.
Is there any serial killer in the world that had a happy and normal childhood with a biological mother and biological father that raised him, had no mental health issues, loved him and disciplined him properly?
Dr. Grande, have you done a study yet of the man who assassinated Gianni Versace yet? His name was Andrew Cunanan. I remember the story at the time, and just remember what a bizarre case it was. Please consider doing this case if you haven't already.
Thank you for yet another professional commentary. You've done so many here lately, you're off the chain! Berkowitz is a hard nut to crack, no pun intended. He definitely intended to kill by knife which is more common than the use of a firearm in sexual serial killers. He had to change his method when he discovered that victims take umbrage to being stabbed and will usually fight back. But he really overcompensated in the choice of the gun. He was very intent on not failing again. A .44 is a very loud gun, I'm sure he woke the entire neighborhood each time. It's just so strange to me that didn't matter to him.
with all due respect, but i utterly disagree with the notion that Berkowitz killed for sexual gratificaction, i have never been convinced by those who claim that Berkowitz was a sexually driven serial killer, the way i see it, after checking the biography of the lonely ´´Son of Sam´´, it seems to me that Berkowitz´s killings of couples were driven by envy (towards the sweethearts), rage and a crave for attention He may have enjoyed the stalking but thats not neccessary has to be in an erotic way
You are correct. Berkie was not a sexual killer in any way, shape or form. He tells very clearly why he did the shootings in his letters to the psychiatrist David Abrahamsen. Essentially your thesis is correct.
I enjoy your videos a lot. From what you have said though it sounds like he was psychotic to me. I was disappointed you didn’t speak about taking into account the other symptoms of psychosis. For example, disorganised thinking, the incoherent letters he wrote, the role of trauma and dopamine in the development of psychosis. There is lots of information now around Prodromal signs and positive and negative symptoms and I would have been interested to see if you could match any of these other, less obvious symptoms, to him. I am also curious to know why other psych professionals felt he did not meet the criteria for psychosis beyond that he appeared lucid in later interviews.
Thank you Dr Todd for your very informative videos. Case in point. This video about Son of Sam. I learned so much about him that I never knew and I remember this happening. Thanks. Great videos!
Thank you for finally clarifying the caliber of the hand gun, .44 Spec vs .44 Mag. Other videos on the topic don't specify, I was confused how so many people managed to survive a .44 Mag, seems impossible, ("It'll blow your head clean off" - Dirty Harry). .44 Spec makes more sense.
Yes I shot both a 40 sw and 44 mag and the 44 was insanely powerful those are the only two I've shot at a range. 40 I think is a little more powerful than a 9 and the 44 was in my opinion. The most powerful gun I would need it was sooo loud.
It's interesting the 2 periods he was relatively stable were in high structure environments: military and prison. I was also thinking about the difference I see in my own practice when a parent tries to compel a juvenile into therapy. Today the patient/client has many more rights, especially as a juvenile. I wonder at the harm done compelling him to go to therapy weekly; add this to counseling from an ill-prepared counselor, well, you get the picture.
Dr. Grande, have you done (or will you do) a video explaining what features of psychosis are and what personality disorders are most likely to have it?
I was living in the Bronx as a teen at that time. Even though I didn't fit the physical type he supposedly victimized, I was still told to be careful vehemently. It was all over TV when they got him. It was frightening time!
Love your videos! Any chance you could put Tiffany Moss on your list to look at? She killed her stepdaughter and was sentenced to death last year. The thing I find most strange is she chose to represent herself but didnt actually do anything in court. Not opening statement, no cross examination, no closing argument. At first I thought maybe she wants the death sentance but she is appealing. Very strange person.
I just turned 14 when Berkowitz shot the couple in Brooklyn. I lived nearby. Between those shootings and the horrible blackout around the same time that summer, it was an awful time to be a New Yorker.
I’d love to hear you cover the UA-camr Shallon Lester! She’s being talked about a lot by other people and I’d love to hear a really fair perspective! She’s sort of a dating/life coach but says some super outrageous stuff. I’d love to hear what you think about her dating methods because they seem very manipulative and sometimes... creepy. She’s been labeled as a narcissist which seems pretty likely. I wonder if you’d enjoy the subject.
Jade Smelly I, too, would love to see Dr. Grande’s perspective on Shallon Lester, as I have the exact opposite sentiments as you! I’m piqued by the backlash to her videos. I think she is aware of her narcissism and acknowledges this by stating it and providing examples, however I don’t love her definition. She uses the happenings and relationships of the celebrity world then dissects and extracts what we can learn from that scenario; a VERY loose, non-scientific version of Dr. Grande’s various case study analyses. I know he can’t, but I’d love to know if Dr. Grande agrees with her advice. I’m really glad you brought this idea up! Fingers crossed!
Julia Mimi yes I know that, however if you are familiar with this situation it’s relatively plausible and up for discussion. Shallon talks about their views on relationships and is ignorant to the criticism they get for promoting/excusing manipulation, bullying and lying. She displays herself as this alpha woman- better than all men and women. I would like to know a professional’s view on what her videos communicate- if that makes sense, since many people have their theories.
Jade Smelly Also, I had my reservations on some of her topics that focused on manipulation, so I looked up and watched a myriad of videos and that is how I stumbled upon Dr. Grande’s channel. As he says in his video on Manipulating a Narcissist (I’m not 100% on that title), manipulation is not advised and can have negative consequences. She does have these disclaimers woven throughout her videos, but are they in the correct spots? Do certain personality types “hear” them and others don’t? I think her delivery and topic choices are a well thought out antithesis, like an extreme pendulum swing away from the advice given on UA-cam channels geared toward relationship advice for men. Alright! I think I got it all out lol
David Berkowitz did not initially recant his statements regarding dogs or demons speaking to him or, apart from a few off the cuff comments made at the time of his arrest, "officially" confess to anything.. There was a brief window in which his lawyer seemed to have him convinced to go for a plea of insanity. Then, in the 11th hour - if you will, David surprised everyone involved by requesting to see a priest or pastor. It was not until immediately following this meeting with the priest, that he confessed to the crimes and recanted all of his previous statements about dogs or demons talking to him. He claimed that any such statements he'd made were simply lies he'd told, to avoid responsibility. The meeting with the priest was private. No one other than the two of them knows what was said. The police that were present when he came out of the room where he'd spoken to the priest, said that he seemed noticeably different somehow. Personally, I think that; given how often David makes reference (in conversation with others, spoken to himself and overheard by others, written in his notes - which were layering the floor of his apartment, etc) to dogs speaking, demons speaking to him through dogs, etc...I think he was lying about having lied, more or less. I think that it is more likely the case, that the priest convinced him that this whole 'dogs & demons' narrative was simply a lie that he'd been telling himself. Again though, no one really knows for sure what exactly the two of them talked about. Berkowitz had made some statements, on video, about having changed his story about 'dogs & demons', but...in my opinion, they sure don't ring true. They seem almost like...bad acting. This is just my guess though.
Watched a multi-part interview with Berkowitz years ago. The most memorable line after he elaborated on his guilt and conversion to Christianity, was when he was asked whether he should ever be let out on parole. He smiled like he had throughout the interview and said, "No." "I should never be let out of prison." How many whackos possess that kind of candor? Answer? None.
Another great video! I wonder if drug use could have negatively impacted his mental health while he was committing crimes (lead to his delusions?). Also, in my line of work we often see those with anti-social/narcissistic personality traits (in severe form) will show no improvement in therapy and will often negatively impact future recidivism
in the beginning, this sounds like an episode of Dragnet. very well presented. i live here in New York and remember the “Son of Sam” killings. he was present in our heads, but living in Manhattan, we were not that scared very glad when he was caught!! his life story is a sad one though. . .
Great video. I would like to know if there is any evidence that therapy is likely to have a positive impact on somebody with antisocial personality disorder. That is, would we actually be statistically likely to see a reduction in violence and criminality?
A year late, my apologies. As a teenager, I was diagnosed with cluster B personality traits (bordering on anti-social/npd). Therapy never did me much good at the time - I struggled to apply myself and didn't see the point. Now I am very thankful for the CBT therapy however. I was arrested at age 17, which scared the shit out of me, and I started using what I had learned from CBT to reshape my personality. Now, I have none of the indicators for cluster B, and I would say I am 100% reformed. TLDR: Therapy only helped because of parental/legal intervention
i wanted to ask if you have watched the tv series _"prison break"_ and if you had would you consider analyzing the characters from it? theres a small couple of troll moments that happen in it but also alot of different kinds of personalities.
It’s sad how a lot of mental health professionals automatically think someone is detached from reality as soon as they start talking about spirituality. Dr. Grande did not mention anything about David’s conversion to Christianity and his ministry. David seems genuinely remorseful and has been reaching out to people, especially the youth, through videos and presentations, for decades so that they don’t throw their life away and end up like him. People who knew him before Christ say he’s a total different person after his conversion. How about mentioning that Dr. Grande?
Thank you for the insight on this twisted member of the Lunatic Fringe (I count myself as a card carrying member myself.) Who knows what he told the therapist in that year & a half; may have been all lies for all the good it did him. The issue I found most interesting was that Berkowitz is a model prisoner, just like Ed Kemper & (I think) Kuklinski. IMHO, it seems that the relatively close supervision in the max. security prisons does some of these killers some good. As if the rigid rules & boundaries gives them limitations they didn't acknowledge on the street as children or adults.
Thank goodness for observant people. With folks like this out there, it is good to be really aware of your surroundings and the behavior of the people around you at all times. He certainly suffered several terrible events at a young age and I'm really sorry for that, but once he started killing small animals, that's when my sympathy wanes. Thank you, Dr. Grande, for the indepth look into this case!

I want to ask you something sir “if a person is socially isolated and isn’t capable of forming friendship due to various circumstances that can lead to depression and self harm tendencies what if that person is jealous of other normal people comparing his sorrow and uses his negative feelings to harm people that disrespect him in a way or are indifferent apathetic.I think that this is a factor that I can see leads a lot of not genuinely bad people to terrible acts in my opinion

I met someone that grew up in Queens. She described that place as the cesspit of America.

Interesting, I am fascinated by them. Why do you like them?
I find it so interesting seeing serial killers as old men! It makes it so much more strange to imagine what they did as younger men

Loving these serial killer health analysis videos, keep up the great work doc!
I’m so glad he doesn’t want to be out of prison, and I hope he never gets out.
Read : The Ultimate Evil: The Search for the Sons of Sam - one of the scariest books I have ever read.
It theorizes that Berkowitz did not act alone but was aided and forced to commit these crimes by the sons of Sam Carr. - - VERY scary book if true.
He is no longer a threat to society, so...
this case always makes me think of the elliott smith song about him...

In later interviews, Berkowitz comes across as a very likeable guy...Years of practice on mental health practitioners probably.
A lot of serial killers can seem very nice, and they probably often are....as long as you are not their victim.
I would say out of all of the interviews I have seen with Serial Killers he comes across as the most "normal" he actually seems affable.

Great point, thank you.
What's wrong with you? Do you think they go out and kill people to be on TV? Most stupid comment I've ever seen
I always thought Berkowitz looked like a character from Welcome Back Kotter.

Appreciate your excellent overviews. Top quality work.
Seems like he was better when in the army and in prison. Is there something about people who are institutionalised, needing external rules to operate, that you could analyse?
Army life is structured, same as prison life. Its comforting knowing what you'll be doing each day, where to go etc.
Some people respond well to that.
This is a good observation. Berkowitz admitted that he liked being institutionalized in one of his interviews because it's more structured and not having to worry about the everyday hassles and noise of life and being yelled at by a boss and having bills .
Can you talk about the psychological impact of reality shows like the bachelor or others like it?
Excellent suggestion.
yes, some trauma on that
They drive me crazy, but they are made for the young generation with a modern lifestyle. So my opinion is probably an expired one.
I hate reality shows. That is how Donald Trump was elected.

Very interesting video. Thank you for taking the time.
@@shellos8 The only thing is, I believe he HAS now applied for parole.
Berkowitz and the .44 Caliber case is fascinating to me. Can anyone recommend a good book in the case (not Ultimate Evil) which details the crimes and Berkowitz himself? What I see on Amazon seems lacking.

According to his confession in an interview and to some witnesses, he didn't commit all these crimes.

This case was the first time I was mature enough to comprehend what a serial killer was about. I was 12 at the time and remember seeing this in the news. Seeing the interviews of people and how frightened they were. Then they apprehend him and it seemed such a emotional let down. He seemed such a loser. By that I mean someone weak and as far from scary as possible. He always seemed to be smiling/smirking in the photos. It really made me mad.

It's just so strange to me that didn't matter to him.
he wasnt a sexual killer
I love your channel. Thanks for making these episodes. Great listening.
with all due respect, but i utterly disagree with the notion that Berkowitz killed for sexual gratificaction, i have never been convinced by those who claim that Berkowitz was a sexually driven serial killer,
the way i see it, after checking the biography of the lonely ´´Son of Sam´´, it seems to me that Berkowitz´s killings of couples were driven by envy (towards the sweethearts), rage and a crave for attention
He may have enjoyed the stalking but thats not neccessary has to be in an erotic way
You are correct. Berkie was not a sexual killer in any way, shape or form. He tells very clearly why he did the shootings in his letters to the psychiatrist David Abrahamsen. Essentially your thesis is correct.
He was killing also for sexual gratification
@@mannygrossmanGrossman you are wrong again!

You rock! If you haven't already please post videos on Betty Brodrick, Lyssa and Dwane Chapman.

Jade Smelly 🤗 I provided that little description of what she does for those who don’t know.
Dr LC exactly! ❤️
Could it be that the therapy available at that time wasn’t very effective or nearly as effective?
Watched a multi-part interview with Berkowitz years ago. The most memorable line after he elaborated on his guilt and conversion to Christianity, was when he was asked whether he should ever be let out on parole.
He smiled like he had throughout the interview and said, "No." "I should never be let out of prison."
How many whackos possess that kind of candor? Answer? None.
Another great video! I wonder if drug use could have negatively impacted his mental health while he was committing crimes (lead to his delusions?). Also, in my line of work we often see those with anti-social/narcissistic personality traits (in severe form) will show no improvement in therapy and will often negatively impact future recidivism
Dr. Grande's info rocks.
Hi Dr. Grande, can you talk more about the psychology of arsonists in an upcoming video? Thanks in advance!
in the beginning, this sounds like an episode of Dragnet. very well presented.
i live here in New York and remember the “Son of Sam” killings. he was present in our heads, but living in Manhattan, we were not that scared very glad when he was caught!!
his life story is a sad one though. . .
Great video. I would like to know if there is any evidence that therapy is likely to have a positive impact on somebody with antisocial personality disorder. That is, would we actually be statistically likely to see a reduction in violence and criminality?
same here. i have a friend who was supposedly having luck with his psychiatrist, but i haven't heard from him in a few months
I once had a girlfriend who lived across the street from this boy. She didn't know him, though.
i wanted to ask if you have watched the tv series _"prison break"_ and if you had would you consider analyzing the characters from it? theres a small couple of troll moments that happen in it but also alot of different kinds of personalities.
Grande?
Another great video, thanks!😊 You could go through the list of serial killers that were used in Mindhunter, you've already covered a couple of them.
"Going postal" .that saying came from Berkowitz..as he was working for USPS
Does the audio seem slightly out of sync to anyone else?
I hope you watch the new docuseries and do another analysis. Maybe on Maury Terry instead
That is such a good series.
@@StilettoCutsQuick. it really is. Very mind challenging though. I feel like I don’t know anything about Berkowitz anymore. I’m so conflicted and confused
@@ImToxii I know. I didn’t know much about him other than the dog told him to do it. Then I came across interviews with him and then the documentary came out. Mind blowing. He is definitely guilty but I think he took the fall for the whole thing.
@@StilettoCutsQuick. I’ve watched a lot on him and it’s suspicious that I’d never heard the stuff from the docuseries before… makes me think law enforcement was pushing it all down to safe embarrassment 🤔
@@ImToxii oh definitely. NY was in shambles at the time. Politics forced the police to close the case to reassure the city is safe so people would start going out again and a lot of police were promoted.
this man murdered my friend's cousin in nyc. she never got over the murder of her family.
Can you make a video about Maury Terry? I watched the Sons Of Sam documentary on Netflix and found it interesting how he seemed to be obsessed with this whole Satanist cult theory.
It happens. Envy and resentment grows.
