  • While it's not the undisputed champ of 3 row SUVs, the Subaru Ascent worked on itself for 2023, making it more competitive. Is it enough to topple the new Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Kia Telluride? Let's find out.
Thank you Royal on the Eastside for letting me test drive an Ascent for todays review.

For us, it was either a Highlander with a $12,500 dealer markup, or the Subaru Ascent with no mark ups. We actually got the Ascent for $2000 under MSRP.

I bought a 22 limited last summer. I am very happy. Personally, we like the buttons too, so happy I have a 2022. The car is very comfortable and very nice for traveling. The date of manufacture had me miss having the fire recall. I have had no recalls. I am very happy with my choice. To me it’s a beautiful car. ❤

I like the styling of the 2023 Ascent better than the Outback, Crosstrek or Forester.

Just brought an onyx edition home a couple weeks ago. So far, I'm loving it! Traded in a rav4 bc 3 carseats won't fit, and I haven't even missed or thought about the rav4 since we've brought this beauty home. It drives quite nice and like you seemed to have been alluding to, this car is more about practicality than luxury - and that's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru! 😏😄

We absolutely lover the Subaru brand. The infotainment screen is perfect for us and it’s our second Subaru, we traded in our Forester for an Ascent Touring. Shout out to Livermore Subaru for great service.

Excellent review! We bought a 2023 Subaru Ascent Onyx, it's a great value in comparison to midsize SUVs of equal size.

As an owner of a 2020 Ascent premium, I have to say I'm a bit torn on the styling. I also prefer the physical controls to adjust the climate, but I think I could get use to digital since the settings normally stay the same. Excellent review, as always!

@@RealistickHell, it'd probably be easier for you to become an airline pilot than to maintain an equally lucrative long-term UA-cam career!
I think you should do both. In fact, you should probably create your own airline. "Realistik Air: No Fluff, We Just Haul Your Butt."

We asians can do a backflip in the back with the 3rd row up. Cmon. This is a great car. Only if I can afford this.

Since I live at nearly 10,000 feet of elevation, I decided that I needed a turbocharged Subaru to replace my 2017 Subaru Legacy. I hate the fact that Subaru does not allow you to delete the moonroof. The competition came down to an Ascent 8 passenger Premium and a Legacy Sport. The two deciding factors were, I am single and don't need a minivan and the Ascent is some 700 pounds heavy. On 12/30/2023, I drove over 600 miles to trade in my 2017 Legacy for a 2023 Legacy Sport. SO FAR, it is a GAS HOG!!!! I have read many posts stating that gas mileage will improve by the time it gets to 10,000 miles. I am currently right at 1000 miles. It the lighter Legacy body is such a GAS HOG, I can only image what an Ascent might be like. My 2017 Legacy averaged about 32 MPG while why 2023 Sport, running in I mode, is averaging 23.5 MPG. OUCH! I wonder how this Ascent would fare at this elevation.

Looking at the same two vehicles, Ascent Touring and Legacy Sport. Do not need an SUV but the Legacy has the auto stop/stop feature that is very annoying! The Ascent does not have it. Both come in the Cosmic Blue Pearl color that is awesome looking!

Ouch sorry about that Canadian goose.
Glad you mentioned the revised Consumer Reports ranking because I haven't checked since they described it as one of the most unreliable SUVs when it first came out.

Have had my fair share of run-ins with those honorable beasts. I guess I’ll try to mention CR in more videos, I only noted them by name here because that was also a concern voiced by several with my 5 reasons ascent video!

Great review! Love the channel-- question: does lane centering work even witthout adaptive cruise turned on? (Like KIA's lane follow assist)? Thanks!

Between the Outback Touring XT and the Ascent Touring, which do you find more refined and quiet, particularly for Highway cruising? Also, which one is noisier on hard acceleration?

I’ve known people who’ve gotten that with a rav4 because they drove so short of distances that the car was not warm for half of it. The turbo 2.4 really needs to be warmed up to be efficient for that reason.

Does this still have the super sensitive throttle tip in and then mega non-linear throttle afterwards? If so, then no thanks!
I loved the turning radius and the power was okay, but efficiency really seemed to suffer…and that throttle was a real killjoy!

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  Рік тому +3

It’s not super linear, kind of typical cvt in that regard but I found it pretty smooth, I think they’ve worked on the throttle since the last time I drove one in 2020.

I live in Colorado in the Rocky Mountains. The State of Colorado has the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law that can go into effect when it snows. If you do not have AWD or 4WD AND at least Mud & Snow rated tires, you must carry chains that are a two person job to install. If you get stuck on the side of the road without these it is a $500 fine. If you get stuck IN the road without these, it is a $1000 fine. A Subaru will generally get you there. I have heard it said that Colorado buys as many Subarus as the rest of the United States combined. I consider myself very practically minded and don't give a care one way or the other about front end styling features. AWD is why I just bought a new Legacy Sport. Red trim features are for stupid people.
