Which one would you pick if you had to choose between the two?
VW Atlas. Not a big fan of turbo engines or cvt’s
I’m biased. Ordered my Ascent in the summer of 2018. Considered the Atlas but it didn’t really move me. The real choices for me came down to the Mazda CX-9 and The Kia Telluride. The Kia wasn’t an Option in late 2018. Truth be told. I would have gotten the Chrysler Pacifica if it had an AWD option back then. It does today. Super happy with the Sue Bee. Volkswagen will have an opportunity to get my money when the ID Buzz is finally released.
I tow with my Ascent 4000lbs all the time and it’s GREAT ! no slippage , and super strong engine.
I pick up my Atlas on Friday! Thanks for this review!
Atlas-based on it's crash tests. Purchased a 2019 Atlas SEL P. Other than the small fuel tank, I'm fine with it. I also drive a Jeep and Town/Country minivan. Atlas is my "trip" car. But at the end of the day, I want to walk away from anything that doesn't involve a train or 18 wheeler.
Now drive them in the snow.
Not a dusting of snow where there is just a couple of inches.
I talking about the sixth day where the snow is now hard packed 5 inches in some areas, covered with another 8 to 12 inches.
There is a reason why people who live in Vermont, New Hampshire, Northern NY, and Canada love Subarus.
And if you have a wife and 4 kids, then the Ascent is the clear choice.
Very True, Subaru's are the Mountain Goats of vehicles. I live in the Rocky Mountains of Canada and only buy Subaru's; very difficult to lose control with studded tires after 5 months of snow pack, 3" of ice build up and -30 deg C. Keeps Fam safe. Had a Nissan Murano for a bit, not even close.
@newrunner91...I have a friend who lives in Maine, he says nothing but subaru's there, another friend who lives in upstate NY, nothing but subaru's there, talked with a lady in Calif who is from Portland, Oregon, she says they have nothing but subaru's there, lol.
I'd say it's only a clear choice if your four kids are small in stature. Third row is tight, and there is little crush space in the event of a rear end collision. Not a place I'd want my kids on a regular basis.
I will only drive a Subaru. Why? In 2019 I was in a severe accident and was forced off the road by another vehicle. I had a roll over in my outback. I was brought to the hospital without a scratch or any severe injury. The doctors were amazed and I left the hospital that evening. The next day I went to the garage wear my Outback was brought to take the things out of my car. The garage owner said he had seen other brands of cars with the same type of accident and their drivers were killed. He told me had I not been in a Subaru I would have been killed. So I will only buy and drive a Subaru.
My girlfriend got in a similar accident like you with her Subaru outback and had minor injuries.
@Loretta lazzetti, I am with you on the Subaru. That will be my next vehicle. Because of the safety and protection if you are in a crash.❤
This. I just bought another Subaru (Ascent) today. I’ve owned 4 now, and the following is why.
When we had our first daughter, we decided to go for breakfast 2 weeks after she was born. I was driving my 2015 Outback, and at an intersection we got T-boned by a speeding driver at 35 mph in a Nissan Murano.
The Murano was totaled and completely mangled. The fire department had to cut the driver out of the car, as her legs were trapped. Luckily, I found out later that she was ok.
Our car, the Outback, had a wrecked drivers door and a crumpled quarter panel. That’s it. I DROVE THE CAR HOME.
I’ll never forget the moment the accident happened. I was terrified watching the car about to hit us and thinking my 2 week old kid was going to be severely injured or killed. When the impact occurred, I watched the Murano lift it’s back wheels off the ground and just come to a halt. The Outback just ate the impact.
The reason there are paddles in the Ascent when the Ascent only offers a CVT is because most folks hate CVTs...they're trying to simulate a traditional transmission to appease folks that hate CVTs. As well, the Ascent is more off-road capable than the Atlas, so those simulated steps of the CVT will help when going down trails with steep grades. The reason that Subaru uses CVTs is that they feel that it helps them meet fleet MPG requirements. At this point, the CVT is here to stay (at least as long as the ICE engines are still in production). Folks hate CVT, so Subaru did their best to make that bitter pill taste a bit better.
You keep harping on the paddles and CVT, which is a bit annoying. Yeah, I get it...CVT is not desireable, but as I said above, there's a reason Subaru added faux gear shifting. It's not like this is a new thing for Subaru (it wasn't even new when this video was published 2 years ago). IMO, having a CVT is bad enough...having faux gear shifting isn't any worse than the CVT presence. I'd rather have the faux gearing than not.
Also, when you were taking the Atlas through the corners, it was creaking and groaning quite a bit (especially for something that's German). You should've captured the Ascent going through the exact same turns, IMO.
As well, you reviewed the 2nd row seats of the Atlas and talked about the middle control panel area. You didn't do that with the Ascent.
You called the Ascent "a station wagon" when BOTH cars share the same profile -- they're both SUVs.
You made fun of the Ascent having the radiused mirror, calling it a minivan. A single mirror defines a vehicle platform now? You KNOW that vehicle isn't a minivan by definition. I mean, come on, man...
I've watched alot of car review channels. Nothing even comes close to the amount of detail and real world use that your channel brings . Keep up the amazing work my friend
Appreciate that man.
The atlas is a wonderful vehicle. But I went with the Ascent.
1.) I put a lot of miles on the vehicle, and it’s better on gas. I appreciate the delay in torque because of lack of gas usage for city driving.
2.) the CVT caters to better gas mileage. I earn money per every mile I drive, the return is better.
3.) simulated shifts are better in the snow for the really rough conditions. With my 5 speed ‘05 Impreza I would but the car in 3rd or 4th for safer travel due to lack of tire spin from the low rpms.
Those were my 3 reasons. It really came down to cost savings and practicality. However if neither of those were a cause for concern, then the Atlas would be more comfortable. I rented one for week, and loved it as well.
It goes without saying that use my vehicle for work + personal.
Great review and one of the best I've seen. I've driven a friend's Atlas, another friend's Explorer, test drove a Telluride 4 times (was convinced I wanted one from a look perspective until I drove it on the highway, but couldn't shake the unimpressive drive), AND finally I purchased the Subaru Ascent. It was the rational purchase for 6K off MSRP and 0% financing. Reviewers don't talk enough about the EXTRA dealer surcharge on the Tellurides (seen as high as $8k!!!)...gone the minute you drive off the lot. All and all, I'm convinced the Ascent is the best value after 18 months, Telluride looks the best, and Atlas is somewhere in the middle. Thanks for the awesome content 👍👍👍
I went 7 months later they have a 14k "Market" charge here in Vegas. Hell no!
We were looking for space in the third row and my wife was considering going back to a minivan. Then we found the Atlas while looking at the Telluride. The Dealer wanted significantly more than MSRP for the Telluride. We went with the Atlas and there are no regrets. Happy every time I get in it. Quiet and spacious, I love the ride. One other thing. I dislike the look of a tacked on iPad for the infotainment system. Like what VW (and Subaru) did here.
It’s awful. I drive two different ones a few times a month. It’s just a screen of confusion. I finally got it down. Took a year. Haha
We chose the ascent, and we are super happy with it! But the Atlas is definitely better looking!
Glad you are, they are both great
The back of the Ascent looks werid. The front is great.
Excellent detailed review! I appreciate it!
Great review bud! Like the detailed review, would be great to see more such comparisons and also if you can include cabin noise/quietness while on the road. Looking at Atlas vs. Highlander
The ascent have 2.4 turbo 260 hp 277 ft lb torque
I was here to make this same comment
Fantastic review. Appreciate you.
This was spot on for detail. Subbed!
what a great review, calm and detailed.
You have detailed minor secrets of both cars. Great. This is what is missing in other reviews. Like to see offroading challenges too.
Please do your math properly. The Subaru has 260 HP and 277 PFT not 238 and 258.
I like it that you put much attention to 3rd row. So many reviewers put too little attention. Thumbs up for measuring !
I use the paddle shifters extensively on my Impreza CVT to assist in breaking, not accelerating. Yes simulated, but affective to 'gear' down.
Fantastic review of the two vehicles I'm torn between.. still am :)
We bought a 2021 premium ascent with the panoramic roof and the captains chairs. Love it and boy does it have power on tap.
We drove both, but ultimately ended up with the Ascent with zero regrets. 🤙🏼 spot on with the lane assist, though. We keep ours turned off because of how unstable it tends to feel w/ land centering on.
Looking at the Atlas, you've Ascended to new heights on this one
After all German engineering such as Mercedes Audi and bmw I’m loving Subaru. Had 2015 outback first break job done at 106K and sold with 170K did not spend a dollar beside oil change with one time 100K service that’s all. Have croostrek same 2017 already 65K and just had breaks done and tires. have 2021 Ascent touring loving it. I drove Atlas it is so cheap to me. Seats are so uncomfortable closing the doors like light. All wheel drive Subaru is better. Self driving system ascent have best. Drove Texas to ohio and Chicago couple of times and %90 was self driving. Just tab to steering wheel like every 15 seconds and let Ascent drive for you. Atlas to me look so simple.
this is the review comparison ive been waiting for. I have the first gen Ascent, I was gonna get the first gen Atlas, only draw back to me was the fake exaust tip of the Atlas that was off to me. Just my 15 cents.
This is the best review I’ve seen
Would have liked cabin noise comparison! But great review 👍
I totally agree with you on the steering in the Subaru. I have an outback and always felt I am jerking the car back and forth. It takes getting used to. Otherwise I love my Subaru. If you ever drive on ice or snow down a steep hill, that’s when having those paddle shifters are great to keep the car creeping and in control.
I just ordered the 2021.5 Atlas SEL premium supposed to be coming in a week I'm looking forward to it I've been watching your videos and it seems nice I haven't even been in it yet or driven it but your videos helped thanks
Thanks David!
Wrong choice . Engine won't last long
@@mbn4975 how long is long because I don't keep cars for more than 3 years so it doesn't matter to me
@@ISOCZAR it depends it could last 1000km or 10000km. Just depends how much coolant the engine will eat before you have to replace the engine. If i were you don't make the same mistake I did and get the atlas. Oh and if you like you cars to all of sudden stop when driving get the atlas lol
That trunk closing race made me chuckle
although its not standard you can opt for the led interior lights and wireless phone charger on the ascent!
Thanks for your great review on these two models. I've been specifically looking at these two models. I've done some research, and the information you covered pushed me to decide. I've decided to go for the Subaru. Yes, the VW is pretty looking car interior/exterior. Subaru has worked out the bugs the cvt Trans had a few yrs ago, that gives me piece of mind. The maintenance is cheaper comparing it to VW. In addition, the MPG on the Subaru is much better. The resale value and depreciation holds better with Subaru. Thanks for your content.
You seriously picked a car with a CVT Transmission? Even if the Atlas was ugly as sin , the transmission make all the difference to me. Good luck to you driving a lawn mower on the highway. Give me the Atlas all day long.
@@cperkins172 I've had three vehicles in a row now sporting CVT's, no complaints; better fuel efficiency, engine is always at optimum RPM. No issues.
Can you guys do the new Acura MDX A-spec now?
I love V6 engine , not flat, I love ❤️ Atlas 4motion
Your right the Ascent's wheel feels loose. However, I have been driving it 2 months now and I have found how sable the car really is. My husband tends to try to control the streering wheel so we shake around. But that is in every car. I find if still it is so easy! Corners are wonderful! Keeping your foot light it issoeas to keep at the same speed. Others cars I have to always watch it. I have not tried the VW. The phone charger is extra. You can get it if you want, I believe in 2023 it will be standard as the talking to the backseat and the screen will be big. I happen tolike knobs for a lot of things so I am ok, but the map is small and having the large screen for the map would be nice. On another note.. I like having the CD player. I have so so many special ones. I do use all the more modern techie stuff so it's nice to have it all. Yes.. I really noticed it yeaterday how the passenger side seat makes noises when I exit the car. I don't like that sine I havent had cars that did that. I should not compare to my 2001 Tahoe that has been so perfect in so many way but gas mileage. But then we are talking apples to oranges. The Subaru will go off road. Does the Atlas? However, the Tahoe is perfect for that too. My last Subaru lasted 25 years until sold. As far as I know it is still going strong.
Purchase 2019 in 2018, Subaru Ascent Limited. Much prefer the material seat design and comfort. Back side doors open nearly 90 degrees for easy entry and exit! I don't know anyone who ever uses paddle shifters unless you are driving a sports car. They are a waste of time and money. Great dash design with quality materials 287 hp when needed and she will move. Eyesight system just unbelievable. So many safety features functioning continously. I've been saved from several rear-ends over the few years. At 42k miles no issues whatsoever. Had a few minor recalls hanled during oil changes. I installed Continental tires yet even before, the ride is very quiet and very comfortable. The three tier A>C system works so fast to cool it is appreciated. I'v e owned other vehicles in the past where the a/c system was not large enough for the vehicle here in Florida. Biggest flaw ist he GPS system. Slow and not dependable. I use WAZE on my phone. Second disappointment, no lighting for the rear compartment at night to load and unload. One very small light on the left which doesn't cut it. I added my own lighting. I too drove the Atlas but I was swayed by dependability issues with their other models of cars. Subaru is also continuous all wheel drive and the brand makes me feel like I recevied a great value for the long term.
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Love the versus video, love the new outdoors backdrop and love that video treatment you applied to your videos. I actually was cross shopping these 2 vehicles but ended up with a 2021 Kia Sorento SX. I think the Atlas looks way better than the Subaru - which looks boring IMHO. Keep up the awesome content Acceler8!!
Appreciate that James! Thanks for watching got some sweet content coming!
Kudos, James. Our family of four (2 adults, a teenage daughter, and a big dog) own a Sorento, as well. It's my wife's daily driver and my daughter's ride when she can't convince me to lend her my GTI. We only need a third row of seats occasionally for transporting a gaggle of teenage girls or on occasions when we are going on a local trip with six or seven passengers and the alternative is using two vehicles. But on those occasions the Sorento's third row is a huge convenience. The rest of the time the Sorento's length (189") is great for negotiating the jungle of suburban traffic and parking on the street or squeezing into spaces at the mall designated for "compacts." We can even hang a hitch mounted rack that holds 4 bikes on the back and still close our garage door, something that would be a challenge with the Atlas, the Ascent, or just about any other midsize SUV. And for family trips the passenger and cargo space is ample even with luggage and gear. For us, the Sorento is a Goldilocks vehicle.
@@stephenhendricks103 Omg, we're in the same head space. We also have a GTI as our daily commuter until my wife was expecting. Both are great cars - responsive, well-built, and looks great!
I want to correct you on the Atlas second row, it does slide forward after tilting to give you more room to get into that third row seat. If the seat you were demonstrating does not do that then there is something wrong with it. Also there is manual shifting in the Atlas. You push the shifter to the right when it is in drive and you bump the shifter up to upshift and down to down shift.
informative n helpful video indeed
I tell you what, the 2-3 inch difference between one car and another, makes a world of a difference. We briefly had a 2020 Highlander, but couldn't get two car seats and my wife in back seat. Highlander width is about 76 inches.
Now we have a Pilot. Able to put the 2 car seats side by side and my wife sits comfortably behind me. Pilot width us almost 79 inches.
Excellent video, guy has a lot of knowledge, is very articulate/is easy to understand and I'm glad I watched this, was thinking of getting the Subaru, but I don't know yet...I'm not sure of VW's reliability??
Now I read your comment. Surely you already bought a new car, hopefully a Subaru. If so, you will never regret it.
Subaru would prob be more reliable than the VW but damn the VW looks good on the outside
It's a lemon trust me it looks good on the outside but the interior and engine will leave you very very sad
The Ascent is And awesome vehicle just Bought one a few day ago the premium💯🙌🏼
How's your Ascent?
You can kick under the trunk of the Atlas while the tailgate is open, that engages the lock option. You walk away, the sensor recognizes and closes and locks the tailgate.
I have the tow package on my 2019 Atlas SEL P. It's hit or miss with not breaking your shin trying to open the hatch. IMO, with the hitch back there, it's useless.
Thank you thank you thank you for showing some actual cargo dimensions. Everyone uses the OEM supplied square or cubic feet when describing cargo space, which doesnt tell you what can fit .
Loving my Ascent!
Subaru Ascent's 3rd row is for your kids. Thats why the Ascent is catering a family suv. So it is kid friendly for the 3rd row.
Fair assessment 👏
Definitely test drive both
Good review. After driving both the VW and the Subaru, I went with the Atlas SEL 2.0. The Subaru was noisy on the highway and the cvt was a deal breaker for me. It wasn’t a question about reliability, as both companies have questionable long term reliability. I’ll keep the Atlas 2-3 years in a lease. The 4motion awd is arguably one of the best awd available. Lots of people commenting about gas mileage. The 2.0 is returning about 26mpg on highway driving. Ascent is close but worse than that for highway mpg. The Atlas felt more substantial. A solid thud when I shut the door. The Subaru felt hollow and rattling. Lastly, the Subaru has several recalls and the cvt rubber band affect is too distracting for me.
I drove to Maine today and my average is sitting at 27.4
Did you miss the Atlas rear liftgate opening with waving your foot??
You can get LED lights inside the Subaru and you can also get a phone charger right where you were pointing. But you didn't mention the heated wipers or that the Subaru can and does stop itself.
heavily bias toward the Ascent.... if the Ascent was priced +$6000. closer to the Atlas pricing would it probably have similar amenities?
Very cool but I think the paddle is for winter weather so you can control the torque going to the tire
We looked at a lot of 3 row family SUVs. The Atlas is more family friendly, much so if you have 3plus kids. The 3rd row in the Subaru is small and tight. The Atlas drives more relaxed also. It was cheaper and came with a 6 year bumper to bumber.
I pull my light utility trailer (1800lbs) with the Atlas without a problem. It could pull up to 5000lbs. Doubt the little Subaru Turbo engine likes that long term.
I have owned both. I loved the Atlas Rline premium, which cost $10,000 more than my fully loaded Ascent Touring. The Ascent isn't is wide or long as the Atlas. The Atlas staggered 6 has plenty of power. The Ascent 2.4 boxer twin scroll turbo runs just as good as the Atla staggered 6. I think the Atlas looks nicer than the Ascent and has a more firmer ride and sporty handling than the Ascent. But for $10,000 less, I'm driving the Ascent. It has a nice soft ride and is comfortable for long trips. The Ascent with the turbo seems to be better when climbing the mountain passes and excels when passing at speeds 70 plus. I would own either one.
You can upgrade the internal lighting with Ascent , as an acceocroies
Good job bro! I like your review not bias and be practical i hope Volkswagen and Subaru get that message . But surely i am.😉
Hahah! Yes man, straight facts!
Will you do a review on Acura MDX?
The paddles on a CVT are for engine breaking. I use them all them time in !y Forester.
That steering play in the Ascent is weird, that vehicle may have a defect. My Ascent is almost too tight, like the steering is light enough but even the tiniest degree of rotation of the wheel causes a fairly dramatic change in direction. It was to the point I took it to the dealership and they checked it over and said it was good.
Very interesting.
Just traded my 2019 Comfortline Atlas with a 2021 Highline Atlas captains chair. My Sister has the 2019 Ascent. Still chose the VW for functionality with my family, the drawback is gas mileage.
Love my Atlas!!
Great review but honestly most families who have a third row in their SUV put their kids in the back not adults...soooo the third row for the Subaru is perfect. I do agree a child seat would be harder on the Ascent than in the Atlas. Comments from a Soccer and volleyball DAD. Lol! Thanks again.
What is the CVT on the ascent?
Manual mode is used (ironically) for descents. I.e. driving down grades using engine breaking.
Info great but I was very distracted by you're not keeping your hands on the wheel!
You spell that Subaru Ascent make 238 horse power totally wrong is a 260 horsepower and 277 torque on the subtitle..
Nice honest review for both. Thank you
Awesome comparison. I dont like the play in the steering of the Ascent
thanks from a new subscriber
Bro, the Subaru has a turbocharged engine in which the future sti and wrx will incorporate as well.
Like both of them
i'd still take a fixed ratio simulated paddle shift if i am cutting through tight traffic. if there is 5-6 car distance between fast moving lane and i am trying to get out of stuck lane, things like that! so your analysis @17:30 is not exactly correct
I really am enjoying my Ascent. I love the way it feels when it drives. It is a very comfortable car. I couldn’t put an Atlas in my garage. It’s too long!
I love it has a CD player. Use it all the time. The 2023 does not.
LOVE THE SUBURA MUCH BETTER. AWESOME CAR.
why would you want stiffer suspension in a family car? with kids in back, you wont do a mile above speed limit!?
end up cancel the order from Kia telluride and go with altas r line . Interior feels cheap but user friendly. Exterior is pretty decent.
I wish VW would put a I6 in that beast with a solid 8 speed auto. 👌
The Atlas says it’s a V6 but it really is their latest VR6 which is very close to being an I6 but in a package that is the same size as a inline-4.
I’ve had soo many issues with vw I would rather give Subaru a try. Atlas is better looking for sure
I have an atlas… in my family we are 5 .. twins and a 3-year-old girl and my wife and I .. we all fit in the atlas even with the car seat for babys , and I still have plenty of space for two adults comfortably in the seats without being cramped
I have 2021 atlas se r line w/tech v6. Love it. Gas milage sucks though
It’s a guzzler!
MY Ascent gets 27mpg on the highway. 20 in the city.
2019 SEL P here.. Yep, MPG isn't one of it's bright spots. And it's no speed demon off the line either. Heck, my 2011 Town&Country can blow the doors off my V6 Atlas (and it gets better fuel mileage) but the Atlas feels roomier.
I thought it’s 260hp and 277 ft lb of torque for the Ascent?
You're correct, we messed that up!
We looked at the Accent, drove it on the expressway at 70. It felt squirrely. Also tested the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, Volvo XC 90. We had a Mercedes coming off lease. We took 2 months patiently comparing everything. We landed on a Black 2020 VW Cross Sport R line, V6 4Motion all-wheel drive. Got it for $36,800 drive out. If you can wait for year-end to purchase. As of this post, we have 11,280 miles on it. Traveling is so comfortable. One issue we had was a bushing in the front swaybar had to be replaced. Other than that no issues.
I refuse to fall in line with the 4 cyl turbos, no 4 cyl turbos for us. Yes, fuel consumption sucks on this Atlas, but I knew that.
Hey i hope next time you mention spare tire or donut tire?🤔
Ascent has full size spare
Telluride- cheap plastic, $40k+ for all wheel drive and it’s a KIA LOL.Atlas- I’ve had 4 VWs, good until 35k miles then your timing chain breaks, carbon buildup destroys your engine. ABS sensors make driving home on limp mode a norm and their dual clutch (DSG) tranny may be the fastest shifter in town but they break. Highlander , ugly AF. Hyundai palisade - it’s a fancy KIA.
Honda Pilot- it’s pretty much a lifted odyssey with no personality.
Subaru Ascent- limited, standard all wheel drive, standard apple car play, standard turbo engine, looks nice but not flaunting its fake aesthetics like the telluride. Great rear seats access, way too many features to name and all under $39k. I went with the 2021 ascent limited because there is no comparison, 38k out the door. Can’t beat that
The front passenger side of the Ascent also has comfort access which unlocks all the doors. I have a 2019 Ascent. So much for for an "objective review"
I know this comment was made 8 months ago, but still… in all fairness he says “Only in the front; not in the back.” Which to me means the 2 front doors. He could have been more clear, for sure… but he never once said only the driver’s door has it.
I like the Subaru better
Vw must have watched n fixed your complaints because in the 2023 we have 2 usb cs in the third row and climate control can be turned on and off up allow the rear passenger to control the climate controls love the atlas
Excellent balanced comparison. I would add one difference between the Ascent and the Atlas that may be important to families with kids in car seats. The Atlas is unique in the fact that the second row seat can be folded forward to enable entry into the third row WITH A CHILD SEAT IN PLACE! Not so with the Ascent (or virtually any other 3 row midsize SUV.) There may well be other 3 row SUVs with superior features but for those families who have to consider how convenient it is to use infant or booster seats, the Atlas has a significant advantage.
I saw a video and the guy entered the third row with a car seat on the 2nd row...
We got the Ascent with the captains chairs. Walk through the middle to access the third row. Problem solved.
Atlas has lock button. We have one and we use it all the times. You didn't look clearly. Otherwise, nice review. We got gti engine on Atlas.
Nice!
The ascent just fits iin my garage. Anything larger and it would be outside.
Definitely Subaru fan here!!!
The question is which one is more reliable and would not let stranded in the middle of nowhere?
First of all thank you for taking time in doing this review. I think you wasn't fair enough in this comparison, it look's like you are a Subaru hater. I don't want to go in detail in all I disagree with. You miss important aspects like safety due to all wheel drive in any road condition, and stability as well. Currently we have 5 Subaru at home and nothing compares in fun to drive and safety. I do not deny the quality VW Atlas has may be for you eyes in better looking but is your own opinion. I do pick Ascent all the way. What some people likes other don't, that is why I told you, you wasn't fair. Subaru brand is a Top safety pick in all models including the Ascent. Again, I don't doubt VW is a brand with a reputation build in so many years but Subaru is a brand with numerous merits that you fail to mention. People who owns any Subaru can tell you more. New Ascent models comes now with features you have criticized. It will be a good idea if you do another comparison with the same 2022 vehicles. Again, thank you.
Love my CD player
Me quedo con Ascent o Evoltis en algunos países de Sud América.
Basically, a great, information review....only biased. The "R" line Atlas wasn't a fair comparison. There are like 5 or 6 lower levels that would have been a better comparison. Subaru was embarrassing after such a long wait for the Ascent.....to put out such a junk. Bad welds, junk transmissions. Inexcusable in 2019. Having said that, I own 2 ....2021 Subarus, an Outback and a Forester....and they are excellent! I was braced to hate the CVT.....and I really like it. But....that Ascent. After 3 years, and lots of inexcusable recalls.....it the 2021 finally a decent car? Especially in the $40,000.00 range? One last, but totally important deciding factor however: I have yet to see a new Volkswagen......that's actually reliable. They're not. They're really not. They're like the German version of Land Rovers. And that's the rest of the story.....
Forester review being dropped tomorrow!
Did you just say 238 HP and 258 PF TQ? 260 HP and 277 TQ is the correct numbers
I test drove both recently. Driving 2.0 turbo VW Atlas was awesome. VW feels very good to drive. Subaru is great but gives me no emotion at all.
That engine won't last, stay away from 4 cyl turbos. Stick with naturally asperated engines. Unless your just going to lease and return, then who cares.
@@StockIndexFuturesALGO especially for the weight
@@StockIndexFuturesALGO My 4 cylinder turbo subaru from 2004 (wrx wagon) has 235k miles on it and runs perfectly. Only had to replace the radiator at 190k miles and then the clutch at 230k miles. Those engines will last a LONG time if you properly maintain them (which is all I've done to it).
@@StockIndexFuturesALGO do u know that Subaru is the best of making 4 cylinders turbo on earth?
@@monsword that’s been proven lol. Why the outback is literally bulletproof
It would be nice if Subaru when they will do a refresh for the Ascent, make a sport trimor an XT version. Like black out chromes trims, bring more pastel colors. Then remove the paddle shifters on the Limited trim and just make it available on the Sport trim. Just my 15 cents.
The ascent is already turbocharged.
@@peterretep1010 true that. Or just a sport trim/package with black out inserts and put the paddle shifter.
@@bubskrz7647 I got a 2019 ascent premium with paddle shifter. There is a new ascent that is called the ascent onyx edition. All blackout. This guy suck at reviewing the ascent. All misinformation. Go to some other reviewer. They have real information and correct ones.
@@peterretep1010 ok got it! I will check it out! Mahalo!🤙🏽
