That takes me back to my late teens. Me and the lads would often drive down a quiet lane for a spot of welding. Quite often we’d get through a 1/4 of welding wire.
Got a whole cloth interior in my garage from when I changed mine to leather. Got sill stickers, nos, and most of the plastic trim from the outside of the doors, nos.
I’d be taking those cloth seats AND that leather interior to the trimmers . A full refurbed set of leather seats will fetch a packet and pay for any repair work on both sets of seats and money to spare. Don’t go the self fix on the burns as the result always looks crap using fibres from seat material and fabric glue. Let the experts do it .
It’s pretty easy to repair recaros with the right fabric material and bolsters mate , why waste money letting someone else do it , admitabky the rear bench looks pretty fubared with burns and even I wouldn’t take on that , maybe send half the trim and door cards to a pro :)
Anderson upholstery in newton aycliffe are a great outfit. John, the boss, is a cracking fella who I’m sure could help with repairs or even replace some of the burnt panels. He did my t5 camper. Great vid 👍
Try Aldridge trimming if its anyone who can make them look mint is thease guys n girls They can pretty much get has close to the same cloth design and rebuild the bolsters prob spend the amount or more again of the seats but would be show worthy after loving the vids on the cars all the best 👍🏻👍🏻
All fast Ford's of the time, Astra GTEs, MK2 Golfs......you know the cars! Most of them with cloth seats had "welding burns" on them. They usually occurred in lay-bys up the back roads near small towns somewhere in the late 90s/early 2000s 😂😂
Most Smart Repairers should be able to repair cigarette burns. I used to have the kit to do these repairs and when done properly, you would never know.
leather: hot as fuck in summer, cold as fuck in winter. (much more comfortable in my opinion). cloth: can stink from sweat and general dust, etc..... can look dirty and is also difficult to clean at home.
Fantastic video Adam 👏👏 I personally prefer cloth over leather. 😊 but surely your leather interior is worth more than what you payed for the cloth 🤷🏻♂️
Another great episode Adam..... bearing in mind the cost of these rare parts, are a good buy, and nothing a good re-trimmer can’t fix. Plus you should get a few quid bk for the leather, should you decide to sell. Top stuff keep it up 👍👍
Mate love how your going at it yourself and yes defo a good thing too change them out. Here’s a tip if your taking the clouth of the seats and left with the foam but some steam threw the foam it will bring it back too it original shape keep up the good work I’m hooked
Keeping busy Adam 👍 I know from doing mine back in the day the seats will be fine to get wet while cleaning, the door cards being old I found that they don’t like the damp as the adhesive they were stuck with is now old dry & brittle and will de attach in more places when wet cleaned, so better to get some professional advice on cleaning the cards. This is going to be a nice example when finished but most of the enjoyment for me back in the day was actually working on them. Just one note though! If you want less Bairns on the seats in future then wear a Condom! 😂
Used to be able to repair the burn marks, guy local to the North East called Chris Hair I think was the guy who did loads of repairs back when I was in main dealers
Leather 4x4 sapphire seats are so comfy but yes very hot in summer 😂 must have had cloth before to match carpet darker carpets with full leather usually 👍
Last year Morgan’s auto salvage had a written off h reg sapphire cozzy in a metallic burgandy one don’t know if still there or what’s left ov it now though
Going to have to stop watching the Sierra Cosworth videos as Adam is doing the exact opposite of what I would be doing ;) don't think I've ever seen anyone going from leather to cloth before but you do make a valid argument and you'll be the bloke sitting on them in your shorts :D
Loving the videos! Quick query though, by the time you have fixed everything on the new interior, blasted and painted the rails, wouldn't it have been cheaper to get the leather retrimed in cloth?
Adam quick question, why didnt you just get your interior reupholstered to as close as original fabric and refoaming rather than buying a 2nd hand set. Im guessing it would have been far cheaper and look brand new again.
hope you come up with an idea, dont know for sure but if heard if you cut a raw potato rub the burns with that it wont take them away but helps to lighten them as i says though im not sure maybe worth ago hope you manage something pal
I dont no if its just on my tv but some angles it keeps doin a poppin sound on your vids buddy ...noticed it on a few of your vids dude .. top content tho pal
Yes adam......rocky burns in Shropshire well were I'm from in Shropshire we call them 'hot rocks' 🤣 back in the early 2000's 🤣 oh the memories my old nova gsi had a few
Adam mate a will give you a tip..don't take anymore projects on looks like you have got enough going on😂..for a guy just having a go ur doing fine mate..all the best pal
Get a smart repair guy to do those burns.. the best way is to trim a bit of fabric from underneath on an edge somewhere and snip it up into little strands before glueing them in
There’s a company in Hemel Hempstead that repaired cigarette burns on cloth seats , they put a patch under the burns and then sprayed a colour coded fibre to match over the hole , they looked perfect , can’t remembering their name though at the moment
If your going to strip the seats you’ll need hog rings and hog ring pliers and get some thin upholstery foam to cover the seat bases to take the wrinkles out the cloth, apart from that there’s nothing to stripping them down
Adam , in regards to the rock burns. Try and find a similar material to the cloth on the seats. With the spare cloth ruff it up with a small light wire brush. Until you get little balls of fabric material. Then use some carpet trim fit glue (the spray can you get for carpet lining a custom van) lightly spray the rock burn area. You will need to use old paper on the seat to avoid overspray. Then simply glue in the new fabric ball over the rock burn. It’s the best you can do. It won’t hide it completely, but to the normal eye , they won’t see it either. If you can access the trim below the burn hole you can always glue a new piece of fabric below the burn hole then cover over with the previous process. If the cover patch is to furry get your manscape shaver and lightly trim back. (That’s not a wind up BTW) I have done that with my own van
Think the leather was the standard interior on the slightly later 4x4 and 2wd saph have cloth seats leather suits 4x4 with the face lift dash and like u say darker carpets
car salesman crafty fix for fag burns is brush the cloth and the loose fluff you collect from brushing glue it back into the burns to disguise it. you can also use an iron on adhesive ( the sort of thing your mum used to turn your trousers up with at school) iron on a patch same size as hole then add fluff again to disguise it. problem with these RS interiors is the material goes saggy and your never going to get a decent finish unless you recover them and use new foam.....and then in a few years it will look exactly the same as before
Sorry Adam but I have a big complaint ...... 6 mins and 9 seconds is way way way too short for your videos lol , defo need to be way longer .. Love your content matey ...
Best way to solve the seat problems is to take up smoking Jamaican Cigarettes, give a couple of weeks and I promise you'll never notice the burns again.👍👍
That takes me back to my late teens. Me and the lads would often drive down a quiet lane for a spot of welding. Quite often we’d get through a 1/4 of welding wire.
Only a quarter?😂😂😂
Different types of welding wire in those days mind- black Moroccan, slate, sticky black etc
i did lots of "welding" back in the day to. fun times lol
I think I know your mates. Mig, Tig and Roly?😎
@@Dan.Chaytor Yeah I met Mig and Tig whilst at Wearside college back in 86
Your mate Paul has a video on how to change the seat balusters
Hot rocks were all the rage back in the 90’s. Looking forward to seeing the repair process on these seats.
Brings back memories.. 😆
He should leave the hot rock burns just for nostalgia 🤣
True lol I have one in the 90 spec Recaros in my Escort
100% my first thought too 😂
I love your passion for these cars. Great to see you keeping them alive.
Got a whole cloth interior in my garage from when I changed mine to leather. Got sill stickers, nos, and most of the plastic trim from the outside of the doors, nos.
Yes Adam this car should have cloth trim, it certainly did have cloth back in 1995 when I owned it!!!
Mad you lad, black leather is class. Especially those classic Recaros :p
I do agree with you on the sweaty legs in summer been serious though.

If you want it to look mint I would let a car upholster take look 👍🏻
The Joy's of old cars 😂 your living my dream, love them 👌
All fast Ford's of the time, Astra GTEs, MK2 Golfs......you know the cars! Most of them with cloth seats had "welding burns" on them.

Agree 💯
You would think so but because the cloth is so rare it actually commands more money especially if its mint condition a lot more money than leather 👍
Would be lovely to see you send that interior off to be fully re trimmed in matching material.
Another great episode Adam..... bearing in mind the cost of these rare parts, are a good buy, and nothing a good re-trimmer can’t fix. Plus you should get a few quid bk for the leather, should you decide to sell. Top stuff keep it up 👍👍
The saph they came out of,had seen its fair share of soap bar back in day💯🤣
Just wanted to say , I am really enjoying your videos , no B/S. keep err going lad
Jamaican cigarettes 😂😂😂
Look nice when it’s in and cleaned
Mate love how your going at it yourself and yes defo a good thing too change them out. Here’s a tip if your taking the clouth of the seats and left with the foam but some steam threw the foam it will bring it back too it original shape keep up the good work I’m hooked
yip i see the pro's use a steemer to bring back the foam. he has new foam but it may have worked

Reupholsterer in heaton newcastle or at least used to be and he did some unbelievable repairs on some fabric seats I had you literally couldnt tell
Used to be able to repair the burn marks, guy local to the North East called Chris Hair I think was the guy who did loads of repairs back when I was in main dealers
I mind folk back in the day glueing wee bits of fibres in to bomber holes... i just replaced seats in any of mine before sale time 😁
Good place in cramlington Adam that will sort them seats out . He did my porsche seats black was great
Leather 4x4 sapphire seats are so comfy but yes very hot in summer 😂 must have had cloth before to match carpet darker carpets with full leather usually 👍
So few Recaros left as everyone nabs them and retro fits them to everything else with new bases 😂
Have you seen some detailers using dry ice machines to clean the interiors Adam? Looks like it works really well.
Has the door on your 3 door on your wall got any salvageable bits that will fit
Another great video Adam I use Autosmart G101 and a honeycomb sponge and a good wet vac on all my interior cleaning brings it up a treat.
Autoglym clean all is better than G101
Last year Morgan’s auto salvage had a written off h reg sapphire cozzy in a metallic burgandy one don’t know if still there or what’s left ov it now though
Going to have to stop watching the Sierra Cosworth videos as Adam is doing the exact opposite of what I would be doing ;) don't think I've ever seen anyone going from leather to cloth before but you do make a valid argument and you'll be the bloke sitting on them in your shorts :D
Defo some solids about in that era, blim burns🔥 😂
Loving the videos! Quick query though, by the time you have fixed everything on the new interior, blasted and painted the rails, wouldn't it have been cheaper to get the leather retrimed in cloth?
Great idea to change the interior
Adam quick question, why didnt you just get your interior reupholstered to as close as original fabric and refoaming rather than buying a 2nd hand set. Im guessing it would have been far cheaper and look brand new again.
Those wee burn holes are what is known as "bombers" typical from joints, someone's been smoking hash on them.
You give them leathers away🤔
There are company’s that repair that sort of damage
I sold my full interior from my crystal blue for 175 quid lol ,should have kept hold of it 😅
Why you not retrim the leather ones in the old material
hope you come up with an idea, dont know for sure but if heard if you cut a raw potato rub the burns with that it wont take them away but helps to lighten them as i says though im not sure maybe worth ago hope you manage something pal
Really looking forward to this next bit.
Leather interiors are worth far more than cloth. If you think £850 for cloth was cheap enough, you have sold the leather one far too cheap.
Not long drove past you down the coast. Other cozzy looking smart like.
Would defo get a professional to reupholster them seats Adam. Will get them like brand new again, any upholsterers worth his salt.
I dont no if its just on my tv but some angles it keeps doin a poppin sound on your vids buddy ...noticed it on a few of your vids dude .. top content tho pal
Another fan of cloth seats! Not a fan of leather interiors. Hot rock burns were a standard fitment back in the 90s😅
Hot rocks or weld splatter, I'm going with the Jamaican ciggies
Should sell your leather set for £2500. 😉
Wow Adam u really have taken a big job on with that interior good luck mate 👍 👏
Get a smart repair guy to do those burns.. the best way is to trim a bit of fabric from underneath on an edge somewhere and snip it up into little strands before glueing them in
Devils lettuce party in that cozzy bud
Best of luck with ongoing Sierra improvements 👍👍
You need a steamer to clean them, put a cloth over the steamer head and you'll see the dirt come off.
I’ve a rear cloth seat base that’s tidy if it helps .
Much prefer the leather personally.will be good to watch you restoring the interior tho.
Adam, I’ve got a bissel spot clean and I’m local to you if you want to borrow it to clean them.
Best way to fix this is have a spiff nay worried.
NE Trimmers Byker Wall Newcastle for your seat repairs
I think the black leather looks much nicer. But every one to Thayer own choice. I see what you mean in summer time if you like wearing shorts. 👍👍
Evil GT use a upholstery that can put your seats like new . Message uncle Benji evil GT . Keep the great videos coming mate. Andy.
There’s a company in Hemel Hempstead that repaired cigarette burns on cloth seats , they put a patch under the burns and then sprayed a colour coded fibre to match over the hole , they looked perfect , can’t remembering their name though at the moment
those are blim burns, some one likes
the hash. :)
Lol was just thinking a about Blim burns 🤣🤣
The hot rocks i don't have a clew how you might deal with them only new material......
The leather seats burn your legs if u park it in the sun, especially on the rear bench 4 the passengers 😂 Good memories 👌
That's definitely bombers 😂
Cloth definitely better for Back Seat action than leather Adam!😂
The seats are destroyed in nodge burns haha must be out of Bob Marleys old saff 😂😂
Some of the paintless dent removal places fix interior bits like them burn holes. Might be worth investigating.
A company called chips away fix burn holes We used to use them when I worked in a vauxhall dealer
If your going to strip the seats you’ll need hog rings and hog ring pliers and get some thin upholstery foam to cover the seat bases to take the wrinkles out the cloth, apart from that there’s nothing to stripping them down
Look forward to this every week
Them holes look like bomb burns from back in the day 😂 someone's been on the sticky icky
It’snot that bad mate it will clean up lovely
Hot rock burns from the 90s.😂 don’t see them anymore.👍
Give Kishtrim a shout. Not far from MAJ paints, but sure you already know him.
Adam , in regards to the rock burns. Try and find a similar material to the cloth on the seats. With the spare cloth ruff it up with a small light wire brush. Until you get little balls of fabric material.

Think the leather was the standard interior on the slightly later 4x4 and 2wd saph have cloth seats leather suits 4x4 with the face lift dash and like u say darker carpets
Got to take it to a trimmer make it look new
I've heard of back seat drivers but never back seat welders.... 😂
Think there know has spilff bolders mate 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don’t clean them with Soap Bar lol 😂
i would try get a old parcel shelf thats the correct coloure tho i wouldnt scrape at the seat
Someone been smoking the solid back in the day 😂
car salesman crafty fix for fag burns is brush the cloth and the loose fluff you collect from brushing glue it back into the burns to disguise it.
you can also use an iron on adhesive ( the sort of thing your mum used to turn your trousers up with at school) iron on a patch same size as hole then add fluff again to disguise it.

Wait till you're going to get a few dry days and spray the seats with G101 and then powerwash it off.
Sorry Adam but I have a big complaint ...... 6 mins and 9 seconds is way way way too short for your videos lol , defo need to be way longer .. Love your content matey ...
Another Top Vid👌👌
Looks like they need a full retrim. But you will get decent money for your leathers so not end of the world
Best way to solve the seat problems is to take up smoking Jamaican Cigarettes, give a couple of weeks and I promise you'll never notice the burns again.👍👍
If you think leather's bad in summer I guess you've never experienced '70's vinyl on a hot day, evil hot and sticky.
Aye some Camberwell Carrot's have been smoked on them bad boys
Great video love your work 😊
Adam what’s the long term plan for this car?
