Absolutely exploring a trade for him makes sense his age and inconsistency are the two things that stand out .
He doesnt do a lot in a game but when he does its flashy so people only remember that

He'll be 28 in October and he has a history of injuries. If we get a late first-rounder, we should trade him.

Agreed, but who would give that for an injury prone player? I don't see him wanting to leave either.

@@drdc22 I guess the premise of the discussion is that some clubs are interested in him. And he's contracted, so if he goes, he goes with something decent coming back in exchange.

I do believe Liam probably could be out the door. Love him but while his at his prime age let’s get a pick for him. He has had a history of injury’s and we are trying to build a list of younger talent

Yes, absolutely. He's the most likely to fall off the cliff the quickest given his injuries. Take what you can get for him. WCE are way too conservative when it comes to trading out players. WC must get more draft capital by trading out players before Tassie skew the draft even more than it currently is. WC can't waste time.
Keeping the same players and expecting different results...

Interesting points to consider, if our backs are so sparse this week why would you trade Barrass for a younger, less experienced, back with the potential to be injured due to inexperience and slight build.
No way for Waterman and Ryan. Ryan had an interrupted pre season and when fit is elite and able to play across the field as is Waterman, both switch hitters.
Draft picks is one thing but you do still need senior players, we already have a few that will only be there for maybe another season. 💛💙🦅🏆

  • @BDub2024

I think we have Hewitt and Waterman that can play a marking speedy half forward forward role. Ryan for a pick in the teens would be good. But I don't think he'll want to go.

Waterman needs to be kept for future leadership roles.

Waterman could also be a flash in the pan one season hero ala Ben McKinley who quickly returned to potato status.

My take, which is probably ill-informed:
The Eagles basically have the players they need (for the moment). The young players are good players, it's more a matter of having the players gain more experience, and gain experience playing with one another, finding how to win.
I think next season we could do much better. Basically the point I am questioning is the idea that Eagles "don't have good players and need to draft". Ye,s, they will draft and get more good players, but I have faith in the ones we have, the young ones. And the older players can do much better, and probably will do better as the younger ones gain more experience, the new and established will both help the other.

I think your value assessment of Ryan is spot on. Nobody is going to offer their first round pick for an inconsistent, soft tissue injury prone 28 year old.
Hawthorn especially do not need another small forward. I can't see any team offering enough to make it worthwhile to WC. Unless Ryan was desperate to leave, it makes no sense to me from anyone's point of view.

  • @uToobeD
    @uToobeD 2 місяці тому +7

Hell nah. Trade players that don't want to be at the club, or if they want to leave.
I think you also need to consider the effect that going to a new environment will have on a player. Some people are more adaptable, or less entrenched at a club, so being at club A, or club B isn't a big issue, whilst a lot of people have a lot of support that is important within the club.
I don't know what is true for Liam, but I think he's probably happy at West Coast, and I wouldn't want him to leave.

If eagles get a top 20 pick offered for him they should absolutely take it. Forward pockets don’t add much to bottom sides, he is worth a lot more to a contender than to the eagles. Not to mention he is 27, unlikely to be at the eagles when they next contend and is keeping a spot from a younger player.

I think someone with trade value does need to go unfortunately. Barrass is my favourite player, flyin definitely up there too. I don’t think we should trade watermen, Allen, Reid etc. so if we could get a top 10 pick for barrass and maybe a mid/early 20s pick for Ryan we should do it.. but it would hurt losing both that’s for sure. Darling could go to a vic club and chase another premiership.. what we would get for him god knows.

he'd be good at freo if he doesn't want to leave WA. It depends on whether he wants short term success. A pick in the top 30s would definitely get it done. It would be pushd further back to 35 anyway. It depends on how many spots in the draft that the Eagles want. Eagles would want a pick 25 and less.

  • @bloodshot3697

I would not want him to get traded, but if he was open to it, then nothing less then a first round else keep him. This draft is quiet deep, so if we can get a first round for Barrass and Ryan, then that will give us 3 first round picks possibly 3, 10, 20.
Trade 3 and 10, Luke Edwards to Adelaide for Curtin, 6 and 11.
Trade 11 and 20, Bailey Williams to Richmond for Bolton and Baker.
    English as a Free Agent.
    Jack Graham PreSeason draft.
Edwards, Williams, Barrass & Ryan out, English, Bolton, Baker, Curtin and Graham.
With picks 6 and 23, 59, 77 for Draft so potentially pick up Finn O'Sullivan, Josh Smillie or Luke Trainor considering Adelaide would pick Syd Draper, and Richmond Jagga Smith as he plays VFL for them.

I can't see Ryan leaving Perth. Too far from his home town. Fair enough. It could cause some upset in the playing group and harmony is important too. I do think he is the cherry on top of a good team. A guy that will deliver a premiership. He has to want to go is my opinion.

Hmm I don't know if I'd agree, but maybe you're right. It could be more nervousness or lack of confidence, still getting back into things. I think the last few games he's looked better, but I do agree that Liam Ryan has more potential to reach and I hope he reaches that.
