    This will probably end up as pick 30 though. It was 23 to begin with. It's frustrating with all these academy and father son bids pushing everyone else's picks back.

    • @DonMoss-gw5tt
      @DonMoss-gw5tt 20 годин тому

      The draft pool is what matters. Father/son and academy selections are already excluded from the available talent pool (except where a club fails to match a competing bid) so the available talent pool is not affected by the inclusion of father/son or academy selections early in the draft. This occurs when clubs are prepared to bid to ensure that an appropriate price is paid for highly talented father/son or academy players. St Kilda's pick 8 (compensation for the loss of Josh Battle) is the only selection that erodes the draft talent pool.

      GWS also received a 1st round pick as compensation for the loss of Isaac Cumming . I hope I haven't missed any other 1st round compensation picks.

      Denver would be worth a spot on the list, even as just a gate keeper. For all of his faults, he is always competitive and aggressive, the latter being a trait the backline could use.

    West Coast desperately need young mids, right now the only mid under 25 who looks any good is Reid. Ginbey looks a defender and Hewett's body is still not right so I am not counting him until he puts some runs on the board. I think use both our first picks on best mids available, even then it won't be enough, we should not have traded away early picks. We need to pick around 4 mids under 25 to help Reid and ideally we needed them picked in the top 50. We also need atleast 1 key position defender. I don't expect to get all that in 1 draft but it looks like we struggle to get half of it and Tassie will enter soon.

    Great stuff, keep em coming Jesse. Curious how you think we will fill the ~ 6 remaining list spots? My guess is 3 at the draft, 1 rookie and 2 delisted free agents.

    100% agree that now is not the right time to be drafting an 18 year old ruckman. Especially with the recent rule changes, the ruck spot benefits very thick, mature bodies. It is a weakness on the list but an 18yo is not going to solve that. It should probably be a target in the next trade/free agency period if something unexpected does not evolve from within. With nearly all clubs only playing one ruckman, there are plenty of under utilised AFL standard guys around who would love a chance to be the number one ruck.

  • @spindoctor6385
    @spindoctor6385 День тому +3

    I would be surprised if it was totally off the table to trade one of the future firsts from next year, maybe not WCs but Hawthorn's would have to be considered. Even if all eyes are on Warner next year, then with the future trading rules changing to allow picks from the next two years to be traded, three first round picks could still be offered. I am not advocating three first rounders for Warner, just pointing out that access to draft capital for any player is available whether or not one of next years first rounders are gone.
    If Richmond was willing to give up pick 18 for Hawthorns future first that would tempt me.

    • @ogidy001
      @ogidy001 День тому

      Yeah this is totally my view. I actually think the challenge is swapping next years round 1 pick, likely 1-5, with anyone this year. Maybe st kilda for say pick 7 with a 3 or for F3 coming back to west coast?

      Maybe if they're any good. We need tall defenders and pace now. A tough midfielder in the early 20s may be useful for 4 years time when Baker and Graham retire.

      @@BigCatinBKK better than robertson? we need depth and pace for sure. Early 20s is useful. But we don't need guys just playing WAFL, they'd have to show that there is potential to really improve.

    • @BigCatinBKK
      @BigCatinBKK 17 годин тому

      @@BDub2024 It's hard to assess that because all of Robertson, Prior and Carroll struggled for opportunity at sides that were well stocked with similar players.
      I think Prior showed at least as much as Robertson did while at Brisbane, albeit in a different role. Robertson is an inside midfielder, so he was behind a few at Brisbane. And he was therefore asked to play at times as a defensive HFF, which is a pretty thankless role. Prior is more of a rugged HBF and he probably got a bit more opportunity in that role. I think he also has some potential to run and carry. I reckon he'd be good for us as a medium defender or as a defensively minded winger with some grunt.
      I also like Jack Carroll. Looks pretty clean in traffic.

  • @deanbeissel2807
    @deanbeissel2807 13 годин тому

    Looking at Clancy Dennis, he looks like a likely wa key defender. Davis is another half forward that we don’t seem to need. I like your thoughts on half back with 12 then and inside bull at 26, maybe trade back in later for a key back and some points for champion. Surely they take him late

  • @BigCatinBKK
    @BigCatinBKK День тому +1

    I like the look of Cooper Hynes. Boantempellan and Hynes would be a good way to advance the midfield rebuild.
    Hamish Davis has bolted, but do we see him as a legit midfielder? My doubt here is whether he would offer much as a forward at AFL level. He's not big enough to be a big bopper, and I'm not sure he's quick enough to be a leading medium third tall.
    I'm also not against picking a young tall who can play in defence, because we're currently depending on McGovern, then Edwards and Bazzo. And then we've got nothing. Add DGB to the DFA shopping list.
    As for trading back into this year's draft, what would stop us packaging two future second-rounders for something decent this year?

  • @spinkscapes775
    @spinkscapes775 День тому +2

    Allan and Davis would be a very vanilla draft for us. We need to be more creative than just selecting the best perceived WA talent available at our pick. I'm hoping we take Travaglia (if available) or Lindsay and James Barrat (who will likely be a 30-40 pick).

  • @eaglefruit
    @eaglefruit 22 години тому

    I'd be pretty happy if any of these guys slid to us at 26(30), a lot of these guys have been mentioned as top 30 talent, only the WA lads are outside the 30, so with our pick basically taking the 30th best talent, one of these would be a get.
    Have you any thoughts on Mraz, Angus Clarke or Harry O'Farrell?

      problem is that we already have BWilliams, Flynn, Livingstone, Jamieson, Barnett and then Archer Reid as a future ruckman forward. They are all around the 200cm mark. So we have so many ruckman that they aren't getting enough time on the ball at WAFL and stopping their development.

      @BDub2024 15 годин тому

      @@user-ln8we1ud9c that's a bit irrelevant. The young rucks are Barnett 20 and Livingstone 19. Jamieson is utility 24. BWilliams is a forward who rucks 24. Flynn got a bad injury last year and is 27. Archer Reid is 19. Ruckman don't develop until they're mid 20s often. But the more ruckman that are brought in, the less time for development. Barnett needs to be rucking full games, but is being stuck forward pocket and bench. Archer Reid and Barnett and Livingstone were running around forward line all 201cm plus. Jamo missed a lot of the year or he'd been another one trying to do ruck and tall defence. Then if Flynn hadn't been injured you would have also had BWilliams as a forward ruck. They have an abundance of forward rucks. they need exposure.

      @@BDub2024 You think its irrelevant that we have the worst rucks in the AFL ? B Williams went backwards this year. H Barnett went backwards, M Flynn was injured but when he wasn't he also was underwhelming. A Reid looks more FWD then Ruck. I think a lot of games may have been wasted on BWilliams as a Ruck, I dont think he makes it as a FWD in our side either given our depth of KP forwards. Overall the ruck situation at West Coast has been poorly managed, lets not sugar coat it and continue to make excuses.

    WAFL Colts is underrated imo because all the Vic's cover the Coates and all of the other leagues don't get the coverage. Geelong getting Humphries last season is a prime example. Davis is projected to go mid 30's but the reality is our pick 26 is actually pick 30 after the Academy bids. Hynes has to be our main target but if he is off the books then Davis or Moraes. Davis was best on ground in the Colts Premiership and won MVP for the club too. He was also a Co-Captain too so has leadership potential. I like him. I saw Gerryn play live and his foot skills are poor. Based on that I would most definitely turn him into a lock down Defender.

    I think we have some exciting years ahead of us, fingers crossed we have good luck in regards to low amounts of injury's so we can build some team synergy for the new game style.
    Given the excess amount of forwards we currently have, id like to see Liam Ryan tried in the HBF and Dewar to take his roll with the new carlton recruit

      I fear eagles are looking at some lean years ahead after giving up a strong hand and with tassie on the horizon. We are not gaining enough ground on the teams above us. There are teams above us with better draft hands then us. I think the eagles are one of the biggest losers of the compromised draft era period.

    This eagles rebuild looks much poorer then the 2002 and 2010 rebuilds. In those rebuilds we kept our high picks and turned them into judd, Kerr, glass, naitanui gaff, shuey. We traded smart with players like Kennedy, yeo, cripps and stenglien, chick. We got draft bargains like McGovern, lecras, barass and cox, embley, Hunter. This rebuild has been going since 2022 and so far it's looking like the only sure bets are Reid and Hoff and Reid might leave. I get fans want to be optimistic but how about being realistic this rebuild has been poor from a trade, drafting and list management point of view. I believe the decisions made may have set us back years. I don't think Reid stays and I don't think Mcqualter will be our next flag coach.
