Your analysis is spot on. They are not deeply written like Frank's but they are very enjoyable in expanding the universe.

I’m finally listening the dune prequels. They are fun stories packed with action.

5:40, I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in Dune iirc. I definitely knew about Paul having an older half brother before I read House Harkonnen, though I assumed their lifespands had matched up more. It might just be a mandela affect thing idk.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to re read the original again to pick up on little details like that.

Yeah I can see why people don’t like these books. Even the few changes you mentioned are either conflict with what Frank had written before or unintentionally have implications. Not everything needs an origin story less is more Frank chose to leave things somewhat unexplained mostly because it wasn’t important. We aren’t told exactly why the Harkonnens and the atreides are fighting because it’s like a montagues and capulet type of situation. What’s relevant is that they are still fighting and that means there will be conflict.

My honeymoon period with Dune has been going on for over 30 years. Whenever a new one comes out I just consume it. I'm a pig, no savouring or pondering every phrase unfortunately so it is over in a day or two. I will reread the better ones or go back to some other book the story might trigger but I do enjoy the DU. You can tell Kevin's style is all over these books and that becomes even more apparent with the darker stories, the Tleilax book is a good example.

Pardot Kynes is my favorite storyline. His descriptions of Arrakis are both compelling and beautiful. I love all of the intricate details.

Out of this prequel trilogy, people I speak with say this is their favorite book, while, to me, it was the weakest of the three. Looking forward to your comments on House Corrino. I just started Duke of Caladan. I was pretty much done with Dune, but then, some random person will ask me about the one book I have yet to read in the series.

I don't really agree with you though, I kinda like it more than the first because it's way more darker and mature compared to the campy and lighthearted tone of the first book. One segment I like about House Harkonnen were C'tair's storyline, I feel his desperation and the continuing struggle between his survival and fighting a hopeless war with the Tleilaxu. Moreover, Liet Kynes to me was probably the most well-developed character in the book. It really was a heartbreaking book there's so many character deaths as far as I can tell.

I’m about halfway through. Liking it so far. That’ll be my next big Dune review for the channel.

I'll probably read the house trilogy later this year or at the beginning of next year. Right now, as I am waiting for my Duke of Caladan book, I went back to revisit some of the classic novels of Star wars EU, thanks to the essential legends collection reprint, such as Darth Bane: Rule of Two (Great Novel). I was just wondering what are your thoughts on the New Jedi Order series, to me that series will always be the true sequel saga. On top of that, are you interested in sharing thoughts with other franchises such as Hyperion Cantos and The Dark Tower series?

If I remember correctly, Kevin J Anderson wrote the new Jedi order series as well? I remember really enjoying them. I have Hyperion but I’m waiting to finish House Corrino and Duke Of Caladan before I get into that. Thanks for checking out the reviews!

@@RonReviews2 I believe that you are mistaking it with the young jedi knight series. The new jedi order consist a whole variety of authors (James luceno, Matthew Stover, Troy denning etc.) and it covers the yuuzhang vong war.
