I love this trilogy, and I just finished reading it recently! Kevin Anderson’s style works for me, and I’m always excited to read another book by him.

I just started House Atreides. It’s good to see that Brian is as talented as his father.

I also like the Nu-Dune series by Anderson, I higly doubt that the Herbert heir does much besides holds the rights though because they read like Anderson books 100%.

I actually have these. I've held off on reading them because I always hear negativity regarding them but your review has changed my mind.

I loved these 3 books! Such a great lead into the actual series. Have you read the 3 pre-prequels?

Just started reading this and agree with everything you said. Question: I’ve read Dune, Dune Messiah, am halfway through Children of Dune (was in a reading slump and paused it) and wanted to know if this book will spoil anything that I haven’t read about already?

I listened to the House trilogy on audiobook. It wasn't a bad prequel series, but not as memorable as I would have liked. Anderson is a very good writer, but this series doesn't have much repeat potential. Love the review by the way.

I watched the two new Dune movies and loved them, but the ending to Part 2 was super abrupt. So i tried reading the original novel and to my surprise, it ended even more abruptly. I can't see why people think that first novel can stand on it's own. So I read Dune Messiah straight after that and that felt satisfying to me. It felt like I had a "complete" story of sort. Yeah it was confusing but I did manage to get through both of them. Then I read "Children of Dune" because I was still curious what would happen to some characters anf yeah... sort of wish I hadn"t done so. It was so philosophical and dense that I had to pause reading and search some Wiki pages for more info. So I think I"m good for now with stopping there in the saga.
However I felt kinda lost this week without being in the Dune universe after reading 3 books back to back 😂 So I picked these up. I knew people absolutely hate the prequels or whatever but I'm loving them so far. They are way less challenging to read, and yeah, maybe not "literature" perse like his dad works. But it reads so smooth that it is a breath of fresh air to explore the Dune universe ane actually understand the plot for once. It's a comfort reading about Leto, Duncan, Kynes and the Baron once more like old friends.

I plan on reading some Dune for June and recently got this hardcover trilogy at a library sale. I might give this a shot along with Dune Messiah.

I also enjoyed the prequel books. They aren't part of Frank's story arc and don't think they were meant to be. The backstories were fascinating. Erickson Esslemont's shared world might be a better example.
That being said, I would treat Hunters and Sandowrms differently. Will reread them all at some point, need momentum for GEoD, but Chapterhouse and Heretics just got so weird not sure how I would even have felt if Frank were able to finish.

I’ve enjoyed all the BH/KJA Dune books except maybe Hunters of Dune. The Butlerian Jihad and Schools of Dune trilogies were exceptional.
