Wow, this is amazing. I’ve breathed through my mouth my whole life because the airway from my nose was just too narrow. The minute I put my tongue on the roof of my mouth I felt so much more air coming in! Thanks so much 😍😍
u seemed to of still turned out fine tho

Yes I have small often blocked sinuses as well. This information is very helpful.
This is crazyyyy thank you 😂 I didn’t even watch the full video
I've been breathing through my nose for 3 weeks now. It totally helps me at work, and roller blading. I notice I sleep better. I do t think I'm a night time mouth breather. Overall more relaxed and I don't get hostile as much as I used to.
yess I have also increased my focus through nose breathing ! it's amazing
When I try to breath through my nose I feel like my lungs aren’t getting enough air

Oh my god. I just started putting my tongue at the top of my mouth and I can actually breath through my nose. Before, I felt extreme light headed and felt like I couldn’t do anything because of how tired I was all the time but now I actually feel like Im alive. All I have to say is thank you so much! I never knew how much this would affect my breathing! :)
@Payal Kumari I think it really has helped overall! I've been practicing this for over the past two years and it has greatly impacted my breathing and overall jawline. Its definitely something I would recommend doing since it has stopped me from mouth breathing which is something that should be avoided.
Do you put all ur tongue at the top of your mouth or just half the tongue or the tip of the tongue?
@@ucefamir6082 Just the top. Overtime your mouth will get adjusted to it and you will start to do it naturally without even noticing!
@@Crazydog-ze2cb hey bro by breathing through ur nose did it made ur nose get longer or wider? Pls reply!!
@@nasreenakhuda It didn't make my nose taller or wider but it did make it a lot easier to breath through. I'm not sure if that's what your trying to say but, it did feel like the pathway for air became a lot wider.
this video helped me to get dust out of my diet
and the dog and cat. it's good thing i'm not allergic to chicken
I'm day 15 without eating dust, does it get easier? I'm thinking of rehab.
Look for dust free diets and recipes. There’s a lot of info out there.
i actually am allergic to dust, wish i could just not eat it, so annoying, i hate to dust and the vacuum has to be sealed, ☹️ i've been coughing lately, started when my grand dog came to live with me, so guess i add dander too, i'm trying this method
Lol
I never knew your tongue should be resting at the top of your mouth, no wonder why I breathe through my mouth. It feels a little weird it's gonna be a wile before I get adjusted to this.
I'm glad this video helped you then! You can do it :)
Donald sheppard me too i'm feel difficult if my tongue on top :(
Sarah Hornsby Thanks! I never knew it's the position of my tounge causing me to mouth breath. This has been a revelation. Thankyou :) Breathing from nose is so natural now I know where my tounge should be.
Why has it taken 45 years for me to be learn about this? I never knew about tongue positioning making all the difference either. Chronic sinus issues for most of my life and multitudes of Dr's over the years. ..and yet it was never mentioned... THANK YOU! !!!

See I can breath through my nose. It's clear. But the thing is when I start breathing through my nose and close my mouth I feel like Im suffocating and when I open my mouth to breath I feel much more better. It's like when I open my mouth to breath I feel relieved as if I can feel my lungs filling up with air. Please reply. This makes me stressed🙄

idk if you still have that trouble but try taking a sip of water and keep it in your mouth without swallowing while doing an activity like work or some chores you got to do. I think it really helps to adapt to breathing through your nose as something normal

Thanks Sarah. Very informative video. I've been suffering from sleep apnea for a number of years, I'm losing sleep, plus my flatmates are getting restless. Watching from London UK.
Search up butekyo method in youtube and invest in mouth taping at night.

Great video! Oral thrush, candida albicans over grows and causes swelling of the nasal passage, usually it feeds off bad carbs and sugar, I had it caused by the mouth breathing as it is also physical muscle memory issue, you can unblock it by keeping breathing through it as it changes and the holes get bigger, no products needed really, practice breathing through it all day until you faces changes back to the human shape and holes get bigger. it is usually caused by always looking at screens and phones, especially in this day and age, shock horror lol thanks for the info.
I tried for a while to breathe only from the nose and I was focused a lot on closing the mouth ... but many times I feel uncomfortable and that the mouth needs to be opened to get more air ... Usually the mouth opens automatically when there is no air ... but I have to constantly open in a way Being independent of the mouth has always been automatic ... How do I change the habit of the brain stopping being aware of breathing and mouth for the restoration of the automaton?
I have huge tonsils and still breathe through my nose! Chewing gum for exercise helps!

@@hal2454 google it. It pushes ur jawline back giving u a smaller chin at least that's what I have heard
You're right. The same thing happened to me. My orthodontist said I have lip incompetence where I can't completely close my mouth because of my overbite teeth ~ which is also the main cause of my shortness of breath. So years have passed I just settled being a mouth breather... until i look at my old pictures and my face is not appealing for me. Practicing breathing through nose is a long way but maybe it will help with the face to change somehow. Idk
Sarah, do you have any recommendations on what to do if you have dust allergies?
If I just sit down I can do it, if I walk/run I need so much air I can't(I get dizzy if I try). I can't breathe through my right side at all, a little bit through left. I wonder if my voice is extremely nasal because of that. As a kid I'd keep my tongue in between my teeth, not anymore though but it was hard to get rid of that habit.
someone help!! i’m 14 and i knew i was a mouth breather but i didn’t realize it was such a big deal and would change my face! when i was little i was super cute and now i have the face of a mouth breather! can i go back to my old facial features if i continue breathing through my nose?

You can at least try. I noticed a slight difference, it feels like your jaw is tightening up slightly, instead of being convex. I find it's easier to breathe through my nose when I'm standing up or working or walking around than when I'm laying down

Unfortunately I have a lot of allergies, so mouth breathing has always been natural. My nose has just never been as open as I want it to be.
same, i have horrible allergies and i mouth breath. you cant imagine how upset it makes me i can breath with my nose
Yea. The thing for me is that I just wake up with my mouth open and I fall asleep with my mouth closed
How are you guys doing, are you guys still breath with your mouth still ?
I've started to breathe in and out through the nose when running at a slow zone 2 pace. Its made a big difference, the reason that started it was inhaling a mosquito. Worse pace stopper i experienced.
To unblock my nose I gently squeeze the ends of my nostrils and it opens the airways. Stimulating the nerves seems to open the airway for some reason. I only need to do this occasionally. Sometimes it lasts for days or weeks. I had one nostril blocked and after doing this it is more open than the other. It works for me. It could work the same way as reflexology, I do not know.
Hi Sarah great video, i am a trumpet player i breath trough my mouth while playing the trumpet(to take air), i have been playing for a long time, i have caught myself lately breathing trough my mouth and i felt my physiology have changed similar to the description of what a mouth breather is, do you think breathing through your for a couple of hours a day (while practicing the trumpet) will turn me into a mouth breather? thanks for your time.
I cut out sugary beverages completely and my sinuses have cleared up alot and i can breath through my nose alot better
Thanks a lot for this video, i never provided a comment on any videos but for this. You really helped me to find the root cause of airway issues like swollen adenoids or tonsils in my child due to mouth breathing and that mouth breathing was caused by his tongue tie. Thanks a lot.
This is a fantastic guide. Thank you 🙏
Great insights, Sarah! Very straightforward and great illustrations.
We have a lot of dust here in Arizona...I'll have to give that some more thought on how to help improve that. Thanks!
How does one "rest" the tongue on the roof of the mouth? The gravitational pull will always act upon it, isn't it?
I'm 55 and I seemed to have developed this lately and I don't know why. I'm healthy but going through heavy metal and parasites detox. Could that have a bearing? I have a well formed face so I don't think this has been a childhood problem. During the day I always breath through my nose and I am not congested... however I wake up and I'm aware that my mouth I open. I'd appreciate your thoughts and I'm going to do as you've suggested herr. I've looked into the ice man breaths and I'm starting to employ those techniques as well. Thanks very much for your video

this was so helpful, she explained this very well :)
Very useful informations. Thank you for sharing & caring 🤍
The major issue for all Mouth breathers is that their MINUTE VOLUME breathing has changed. Just like when people over eat they become over weight, When people OVER breathe - eg mouth at rest, chemical, physical or emotional stress or lack of awareness then gradually over breath more and more.
The community and Medical world does not really get this.
THIS is what causes asthma , THIS is what causes snoring and poor sleep, THIS is what causes blocked noses and increasing allergy reactions. THIS is what causes the "feeling of not getting enough air"
These techniques of Sarah's, though well meaning, will NOT convert people to Nasal Breathers.
The ONLY way to correct this is to reduce or reset the MINUTE VOLUME breathing.
If this is done correctly it matters not if you have deviated septum, reduce allergy reactions, eliminate asthma and sleep apnoea and correct the dental issues.
The Buteyko Method if taught correctly (not thru video or book or Dr Google) corrects breathing in 5 consec days and then with a period of consolidation.
All other treatments are symptomatic only.
I know this because I have taught over 6000 people full time for 10 yrs.
Brian
firthb@gmail.com
Brian Firth is the correct way breathing from your nose or mouth?
mouth is for eating. Nose is for breathing
This sounds like bullshit. There’s plenty of people who’ve seen improvements without this and I imagine that once you’ve gradually increased the amount you breath through your nose you’ll have automatically reset how much air you’re used to.
sounds scammy
I’m not allergic to anything and it’s difficult to breathe through my nose even when putting my tongue on the roof of my mouth

Any tips for teaching my 6yo to breathe through his nose more? I have noticed him doing it more and more during daytime and grinding at night more. He does need a tie revision but that and myo isn't in the budget at the moment as I just got my tongue released. There are some of us that have tried a plethora of allergy tests, neti pots, sinugators, medication and dietary changes all our lives and our sinuses are still completely swollen and blocked 90% of the time, tight as a drum. For some of us, nothing works and we just have to do the best we can.

@Dylan, it seems like you have described my condition. Just wondering if you found any solutions over all these years. Going to see a GP tomorrow as I'm fed up with not being able to breathe for the last several weeks/months
If I try too much to breathe through my nose, it hurts my head. I have this nasty habit of breathing through my mouth and sometimes it gets so difficult to breathe through my nose and mouth I feel suffocated. Anyone else?
Practice it did the same to me breathe slow
Same issue😓
Same here
Don't try it, get your nose checked, if you have a deviated nasal septum, it's a structural issue, your nose isn't giving you enough air, so you must breathe with your mouth, no amount of mewing will help that, only getting surgery would, sometimes even chiropractic readjustment works.
Trying too hard to breathe through your nose despite feeling suffocated will affect your oxygen levels.

Years ago I lost the ability to breath through my nose. I've just dealt with it by breathing through my mouth, catching my breath, and taking deep breaths. Yesterday, I was at the dentist with a mouth opener and other items, while she "did her work" for a crown placement. She only did half the work and I need to come back next week. /Hello Sarah, my 4 years old kid have his tonsil grade 3 and his tongue rest in the bottom of his mouth, what would be the best solution for him? What specialist can help him with his mouth breathing problem.
Thank you so much.
Sometime the reason people don't get enough air through their nose is due to 'swollen turbinates'. The nose's bony divider (septum) has 3 ridges in each nostril that run front to back, and which are covered by fleshy nasal lining. With a cold or allergies, this lining gets swollen, but sometimes it's swollen all or most of the time without these conditions. Focusing on breathing through your nose for longer periods, or using a nasal CPAP mask, can help shrink this tissue and improve the airflow. If this does not work, your doctor may recommend surgery, where an RF probe is inserted into this lining, heating it and turning part of it into smaller-volume scar tissue (mine once suggested this procedure). In my case, a CPAP 'nasal pillow' mask did the trick, and I can now breath through my nose for long periods. However, I'm still a mouth breather when I sleep due to the lifetime habit, so to use my nasal mask, I have to use a chin strap and tape my lips. I came here hoping to learn how to stop my mouth breathing without all that contraption, because my nasal pillow mask really is the most comfortable and least painful I've found. A full face mask causes me facial and front sinus pain, plus leaks a lot due to the shape of my face. I've tried the tongue-on-the-roof-of-the-mouth thing, to no avail so far -- I always wake up with the CPAP air pressure blowing out of my dry-as-the-Sahara mouth.
I’m afraid a CPAP mask does not directly address the problem, surgery is the only way. And as to break the habit of sleep mouth breathing, once surgery is completed and patient recovered, used duct tape to tape the mouth shut at night to encourage nose breathing. This is important as the most important time to make breath is when sleeping
Did you still use cpap...and your turbinates are shrink now???...please reply my father is having same problem
@@preetimittal2123 CPAP did seem to help me overcome my swollen turbinate problem. The positive air pressure and the use of a nasal-only mask choice helped enough air flow past to keep down my nightly incidents of apneic episodes.
I'm not sure I could say how much my turbinates have shrunk, and I never got such a measurement from my doctor. I used to suffer from a lot of sinus headaches back then, partly due to the swollen turbinates. I have a lot fewer sinus headaches now, usually only during colds and such.
So overall, I'd highly recommend CPAP, and a nasal mask in particular, assuming escaping air from the mouth can be controlled.
What about when you can breathe through your nose during the day, but you clog up at night? Why does this happen? The minute I lie down to sleep, my nose blocks. It's so frustrating.
My son has been a mouth breather for years, then a doctor also said that he has a large tonsil, now is it because he’s a mouth breather his tonsil become bigger ? Because when I asked him, he said he actually can breath through nose, but it becomes a habit to breath through mouth. Should I do surgery on his tonsil?

I just had my nose fixed. It was broken very badly and broken in two different directions so I could not breathe through my nose.
My tongue has always rested at the top of my mouth. I’m trying to learn what it is like to have this new feature
siemenssx1 the plastic surgeon told me during my first appointment. My nose was broken in two different directions. Which is separate breaks. I’m a triplet and was first out so I was on the bottom and right by my face was one of my sisters feet. So to my best knowledge, most of my breaks happened in the womb.
siemenssx1 I had a bone sticking out of my face and wanted to fix it. My ENT had told me I had a deviated septum. My type of break a ENT could not fully fix so I went to a plastic surgeon. I’ve also never been able to breathe through my nose.
siemenssx1 I can breathe through my nose very very well :)
siemenssx1 um I had a rhinoplasty/septoplasty. That’s it. I’m 5 weeks post op.
I’ve also had my tonsils and adenoids removed but that was before this and did not help breathing through my nose.
siemenssx1 little of both. Still dried blood and some stitches left in my nose due to the seriousness of my deviated septum. I am currently working on training myself to breathe through my nose. :)
