Man, didn’t have a rough home life as a kid but I have a chronic illness and stayed sick and in pain. When I found comics I was in Heaven but when the magnificent 7 launched image comics I had an escape from the pain and suffering with these books. Being 11 and 12 years old and studying the art work and trying to replicate it and duplicate McFarlane and liefeld and Lee was a painstaking labor of love that I would not trade for ANYTHING! The first introduction to how good McFarlane actually was, was in spider man 13 and 14 with mobius and the black suit spidey. I studied and drew the things in that issue multiple times and kept studying it over and over again. I had three issues of each book (spidey 13 and 14) at one point, one to keep, one to read and one to peruse and study the hell out of! I have met all the image founders except for Todd McFarlane and I hope that he makes his way to Chicago when the conventions restart.
Todd’s run on Amazing Spider-Man was magnificent!! Unrivaled to this day!! Such a great time for collecting comics!! Can’t wait to see the rest of the interview!!
I had the great honor of meeting Todd Mcfarlane at the Amazing Comic Con in Las Vegas a few years ago. He signed comics for free, gave you some time to actually talk to him and took a selfie with you. What a class act and tremendous human being. Hands down my favorite comics creator.
Surprisingly less cynical than I expected. Love how he talks about leveraging your strengths as you work on becoming completely proficient. Those dice are legit, bruh.
This is the first time I’ve heard Todd McFarlane interviewed. My first impression is that he is a very thoughtful man, understands the big picture, understands that he part of a much bigger community and that we all need each other.
I love how excited he gets about personally desirability comics he hunted. I still do that to this day, including Spawn 1 which I still have from my teenage years!
McFarlane changed everything at the time. I remember when 298 came out and how exciting his art was. Great to see he is still thriving. Thanks for the opportunity for this book again, possibly.
Todd is single-handedly responsible for me coming back to comic books. I collected comics in the early to late '70's and stopped in early 1982. Life happened, and then I walked into a comic book store in 1988, saw his work on Amazing Spider-Man, and the rest is history. I used to read to my son Todd's ASM (and Incredible Hulk) books when he was a little boy. Good times !!!
Awesome job guy's Mr. McFarlane is one of the best always involved in the community and always trying to help I hope one day I get to meet him in person. This is by far the best video yet.
Awesome. The Todd-father is the best. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. Having been to a few signing and getting the chance to actually talk to him is the greatest.... 👍
I've always loved McFarlane's artwork. I got back into comics when he started doing his own Spiderman title. Spiderman #6 with Hobgoblin is still my all time favorite comic cover.
Dude he's such a nice guy. When you praised him for helping your shop stay afloat he said it was the only way to go to keep the industry up. My favorite is the Incredible Hulk 340. Its such a DOPE cover.
ASM 300 HANDS DOWN ! This was the first real interview of Todd I have ever watched. Im definitely getting his autograph at the next Con I see him. He seems like a real genuine guy !
A true inspiration. I have always love the true-to-life artistry that his books always given. The emotions, the flare. Truy a humbled person and great personality.
Awesome interview looking forward to part 2. Favorite part was him talking about how he B.S. his way for the first few years till his drawing skill improved. I didn't know he had gone to school for graphic design.
One of the reasons I love comics..loved his creative takes on classic characters and how he changed the game of comics as a whole with his art 👍🏻 Love your videos ComicTom101
Excellent interview. You're a natural, Tom. And Mr. McFarlane has always been such a genuine guy. It's cool to hear about his beginnings in the industry. Looking forward to part 2.
Very good interview, professional and well executed. I've watched so many ppl discuss famous artists/writers work ect but this is the first I've seen someone address what that artist/writer collects. We often fail to realize these professionals are also fans of our beloved community. Very well done, sir.
Todd is the of the best , period. True living legend. I share his need to pick up all avengers annual #10 I find . The artwork in that book is so good.
How awesome that a major artist & publisher literally takes the time out of his busy day/schedule to chat with you! Great vid! I look forward to his next interview with you! 🤘👍
Amazing interview!! Todd McFarlane is absolutely one the best creators ever! He has a genuine love for fans and comics and that goes a long way!! Awesome interview!!!🔥
Hey Tom and all. Great interview! Especially great editing when showing examples of Todd’s work as he was describing scenarios. The visuals were vital in telling the story and you guys pulled some examples that fit the conversation. Great job!
My first introduction to Todd McFarlane was when I got back into comics as a young adult and saw the cover to Spiderman #8 on the shelf at the comic shop. I became a big fan of his art after that and have not looked back.
I came late to the game to McFarlane in 90s. Picking up Spawn 5 is a very fond memory. There weren't too many places to get comics in my town growing up, so after having read about Spawn for what seemed like an eternity, it was so cool to finally have one. Spawn 5, nothing particularly landmark about the cover, but it is simply my favorite. Understated compared to some of his ASM work, but, in my estimation, perfect.
I personally appreciate the bark-only appearance of Dogg McFarlane more than most probably would.
Facts 🔥

As a kid from the late 80's/early 90's that had a semi-rough home life, he offered me an escape from that-that I could never thank him enough for.
