      His entire music and fight is just a good king staring down the horrible decision he had to make and knowing at the end of the day, He's no better than the humans he declared war on so callously. He's a good man making a bad choice for the betterment of everyone but himself (in his eyes). It is further reinforced by how he is the only opponent to choose to deny the right to mercy. That button isn't for our benefit it's for his and he knows he probably doesn't deserve it and should face punishment for his crimes by the hand of one of the victims of them.

    Burgentrucküng may also translate to “mountain king”. In genocide route, you fight sans in the “judgement hall”.
    You could say that sans is fighting you…..
    *in the hall of the mountain king.*

    Bergentrückung refers to a motif in European folklore where a king or hero is not truly dead but is instead in a state of suspended animation, awaiting the right moment to return and restore his people to greatness. In the case of Friedrich Barbarossa, it is said that he did not die but is instead sleeping in the Kyffhäuser Mountain in Germany.

    bergentrückung is one of my favourite words. from what i've read about the word, it's basically german for "the sleeping mountain king." it's absolutely wonderful and 100% describes Asgore perfectly.

    I knew that the name (unpronounceable as it is) of this music had a meaning but I didn't think it was so precise. However, I wonder why Toby Fox chose a German word for the name of this ost and not a word from another language... Anyway thanks for this explanation, it's actually really interesting !

      Probably because it's an ancient trope (IIRC). And Asgore is ancient. So recalling something traditional by its name gives it a sense of power.

    • @Missingno_Miner
      @Missingno_Miner Рік тому +23

      Aside from the trope suiting Asgore well, Germany is a strong candidate for the location of Mt. Ebott, as there is a mountain in Germany that may have been Mt. Ebott's inspiration.

    • @Darkopal_
      @Darkopal_ Рік тому +1

      @@Missingno_Miner Which mountain ?

    • @Missingno_Miner
      @Missingno_Miner Рік тому +1

      @@Darkopal_ I believe it's called Steinberg. Aside from looking similar to Mt. Ebott and having a nearby village, some reddit post from years ago(Alas, I can't link to it, as UA-cam hates links and has an inexplicable talent for enforcing this hatred only for real people posting safe links, never the bot accounts spamming malicious links that this policy is supposedly intended to stop) claims that there are buttercups and other yellow flowers growing around and on it, and claims there are even myths about people disappearing in the area. They have pictures to prove the former, but don't go into much detail about the latter, and while they claim to have done so elsewhere, as well as to have posted more evidence to support the connection elsewhere, that's likely lost to time since their account is deleted and there's no real way to track those posts down.
      It's hard to find much information about the mountain online, or about the nearby town, but it appears to be near Germany's border with the Czech Republic.
      Then again, could just be a coincidence, like how there are real world-mountains named Mt. Ebott(Which we know is coincidental since it was probably intended as an earthbound reference, being named after Toby himself rather than any real mountain), in which case Mt. Ebott probably doesn't have any real-world inspiration at all. Honestly, I think that's more likely, but still, Germany is a strong candidate for Mt. Ebott's location.

    Bergentrückung is an acronym, it stands for:
    Burgers
    Eating
    Ramen
    Going
    Eenside (it's a double e bacause yes)
    Nobody
    Truck
    Right?
    Ü (just a smiley face)
    Can
    King
    U (first letter of "destroy" in æūpîr language)
    N (same thing, it's "twitter" now)
    G ("please")

    interesting thing, here in Denmark we have an example of it, but it is also subverted in two major points, which makes the direct name inaccurate for it.
    Holger the Dane, who fits the trope, except he is under a castle and not a mountain, and he wasn't a king, but one of Charlemagne's Paladins
