Thanks for the informative review that substantiates my decision to go with the Simplex (updated to v2.78). I am an old-timer detectorist - started in late 70's with old Whites G.E.B. machines, but just getting back into it and learning what this new machine is telling me. Need now to find under-detected places that hold some good finds as yet to find silver or a ring with it.
If you go to places where you have found silver before, There is a good chance that you will pick silver in a pounded out site just in a few hours of detecting. I see this happen all of the time and it happened to me on "Silver Street". I have many videos picking silvers with the Simplex on a street that I have been beating up for years with my older detectors. I know you will find a ring ore some shiny very soon Kevin just hang in there. Happy hunting and good luck.
Hi , for all Simplex users that just bought a 2nd hand or brand new Simplex recently and want to go back from 2.78 to 2.77 firmware I want to share this. I got 2 Simplex machines bought recently from Ebay-Detector warehouse "Open box" both of them arrived in 2.78 version and both of them have the "Back" symbol on the "Up Arrow" push button. I wanted one of them to be in 2.77 according to have both versions. When I tried to perform the Firmware Downgrade with the "Nokta Detector Update Tool" then I connected my detector, selected the 2.77 Firmware version then when I did the "Detect Device" button I got a Pop UP message window telling me that firmware version is not compatible with my detector then it mentioned "Simplex 2.78 HW2 version detected" then I Click the "Start Update" button it did not do nothing. Then I tried with the 2nd Simplex I also have in 2.78 version, then this time when I did "Detect Device" another window Pop up with the info that Firmware downgrade possible but by my own risk, this time Machine detected was "Simplex V2.78 HW1" , then I decided to click the "Start Update" and voala, now it is on 2.77 FW version. So, it seems like we have 3 machine version around; 1 - the first generation that came with 2.68 and can be use any Firmware versions available. 2 - the Simplex HW1 that can be reverted from 2.78 to 2.77 or 2.76 only and 3 - The Simplex HW2 that came with 2.78 Factory and CANT BE REVERTED to 2.77 nor 2.76. Hope this info can helps. I am glad that I can share with you guys. Btw I just found an Original Simplex version with 2.68 FW version still on it. Now I have the Simplex in 3 most relevant versions. Cheers
I like my 2.77, have the detech 13'' coil and it slams deep targets. It is surprisingly good in the iron too. I think it all comes down to knowing your machine. You can outhunt or match any machine if you really really know your simplex.
I have a simplex and a 540 vanquish and take them both because they have different characteristics in in different situations your a guru in detecting and I so appreciate your videos or I'd be lost at times thankyou 👊
@@steelydan42 depends on how old it is. It could have been in a storeroom for a while before sale. Upgrading its about 1 min to do. Really simple so don't worry about that 👍🏻
Nice review, just a while back I opened up the new v2.68 assembled it and gave it a whirl, I had difficulties with the 2.68 compared to the 2.78 but I will just have to put some more time on the 2.68 and see if I can manage with it, so far I am liking the 2.78 best but have had many hours on that version. Have fun out there, I enjoy watching your videos for sure.
Awesome video brother!! It sure is a killer detector. Absolutely love mine! Have had mine since October and don't feel any need to use a different machine. I like my 2.77 version and am digging the SP24 coil bigtime! Found me a 1750 KG2 half penny this week and civil war button. Happy hunting! My new video is out now!

Great. That's all I need to hear. Can't wait to get one. Been watching a lot of your Superfreak vids little by little. So nice to hear others perspectives and styles. I just finished the one on small coil vs big coil. I hear ya, man. Keep up the good work.@@PaystreakSuperfreak
yeppPP, my speaker quit working after 2-3 weeks too , so i got my money back. I want a Simplex again, only if in wet sand ground balance 0-5, if it then gets over 5” in the wet sand on coins... my last simplex last fall in field mode wont get over 6” on a nickel in the wet...u had to ground balance to 0-5 to get the chatter to shut up, but then u lose all kinds of inches in depth...if only someone did a test in salt water wet sand with the new software....this person would be a god, but NOoO, no one knows the main concern of the simplex - NOT GETTING DEEP IN THE WET
I got a simplex as soon as they were launched here In Australia i used park mode for five months before I moved onto field mode (i actually now prefer field mode) it's also.the original 268 version...I havnt really used any other machine so I can't really rate it next to an anfibio or a nox or any other types really..all I know is what with Australian conditions being pretty much the same here in Queensland the state over I can honestly say I hold my own in front of other detectorists I see posting in here and on Facebook with a lit more experience than me..of course it's always about the location that throws up the best mixed bag of finds but my first love is detecting old parks although I do live less than five minutes away from the ocean the beaches are always pounded by fleet loads of detectorists hoping to find that diamond ring lol I tend to stay off the beach but I have been a few times and the beach mode seems fine to me...all metal mode? What the heck is that all about? lol anyway I'm waffling on great review mate in my book your the simplex king no doubt 😊👍
@PaystreakSuperfreak I left mine in 2.76 version because it ran with my Teknetics Omega 8000 version hot and chatty and a coin vacuum cleaner for sure so when I did the update to 2.76 I found the match to the Omega 8000 version 4 which you can't get anymore. I have 2 one new in the box but with the simplex+ no worries now.
you said in 5:36 why you like the the 2.76 version better. is it 2.76 or 2.67? your video title says 2.67, which is it because i think i like that version better too, which was the version that orginally came to me when i first got it out of the box. but then you said it was 2.77, so im confused which is which.
I just downgrade my Sw from 2.77 to 2.68 whit no issues. You just need to know if you machine supports the old 2.6x sw. This can be verified when you do “detect” on the software tool, you will see your Simplex version.
Sorry man.. When you start out you show us, from left to right, the 2.78 version, the 2.77, and the 2.67 respectively. The first Simplex that you pick up, you tell us is the 2.78 version. The second Simplex you pick up you tell us is the 2.76 ( then a 2.77) and say that it's unstable. Finally you pick up the last Simplex, initially you tell us it is the 2.76 version, before correcting to say it is the 2.67 version. Hence my confusion, and initial ask about the Simplex 2.76 version.... In U.K, I have watched videos on the 2.76, and it seems an excellent version.
There is so many versions I did misspeak there. but I do set it right before I turn the machines on. The v02.76 and v02.77 were only released 1 week apart but they are very similar. The v02.77 just added a mute function and wired headphone adjustments. I know of nobody who uses a v02.76. There is just too many versions of the simplex( 6 versions in 9 months) it can get confusing. Hopefully that clarified parts of that video for you. Happy hunting and good luck Tim.
@@PaystreakSuperfreak Bang on for me man. Thank you!... 'After the event.' I checked up on the Nokta Makro Home Site. Wish now I'd shut my mouth and looked up on the NM site first! Dumb ass me! I notice that you don't seem to mention or cover the 2.76 version. That being the original step up from the 2. 6... series to the 2.7... series of up-dates. Please would you let us know why this is so.
Nokta had some huge issues with keeping that version on their website. If you start with v02.67/v02.68 and you upgrade to v02.7.., your machine and coil could fail and Nokta will NOT honor your warranty(sad but true). Nokta suggests not downgrading to anything v02.6 and I stand by that suggestion. What I did and may of my friends we just bought a v02.6...and will not be upgrading that machine. It can be difficult finding a new in box v02.6.. but the best way to find a v02.68 is a used one. Every machine ever made has its issues and I think the Simplex's issue is having so many versions being released in a such a short amount of time. Happy hunting

Interesting and detailed. Thank you. I moved from 2.77 to 2.78 last weekend and have enjoyed the new version. Definitely more stable for me.
The v02.78 is much more stable than the v02.77. Like I said depth is not everything when it comes to stability and performance.

2040 hours is a full work year 8 hours a day 5 days a week so how many years did this take you. The Simplex plus isn't all that old.
