I believe the theory is depending on the time of the year should you Discern the type of ammo you should load in your clip for spring summer months we’re people mostly we’re less the hard projectile rounds can be more effective for fall winter time months The pepper and teargas like rounds should be more effective it’s all on what you’re trying to attack Hard pellets focuses on bruising the body while chemical rounds focuses on attacking the senses
Huge wait times, bad ammo and the worst customer service around. These are only a few things you get with a Byrna system. It's been almost a year and I am still waiting for parts I ordered. 6 months to receive the gun itself. I would NOT trust this in a life or death situation.
Good to know, I bought it locally so didn’t have to deal with them as a company. I do know they don’t like people sharing test videos, showing the product off though.
So why are all the other videos showing effective demonstration? Is your CO2 cartridge spent ? If the answer is no then maybe you should seek a refund and get a new HD product and try another one and do another demonstration then follow up video part 2
I’m not sure what videos you are watching? I’ve seen multiple that show people shooting wood boards to get the max rounds to burst. I used multiple c02 cartridges while I tested it out. Not a single max round burst when hitting anything other than a solid surface. If you are seeing the same tests ran with different results, it goes to show the quality control of this product is not very good. Which then leads on to, do you want to potential put your life on the line to a product that is 50/50?! If you’ve purchased one, I recommend testing it so you can see if it will be effective for you! After testing it, I would not rely on this product, nor would I advise my family or friends to either. Stay safe!
Why would I use that when I can literally buy an high powered baby gun what kind of baby gun looking penetrate through jackets instead of a gun what has real ammunition and that thing just sucks as you only consider it 5 times I rather shoot 6 times than 5
Best review so far, realistic reviews are best. And consider most degenerates are on drugs so that will make it even less effective. Just get proper training, licensed and carry a proper gun for self defense.
No, multiple c02s were used through the day. I have to say, being fair, there wasn’t much difference in power between the first say 10 shots. Thanks for watching.
KIDS TOY ! 😂 🤣 😂 IF YOU SEE A POSITIVE REVIEW VID ON UA-cam IT'S PROBABLY JUST AN AVERTISEMENT BY THE COMPANY MADE TO LOOK LEGIT BUT IT NOT. ITS JUST A PROMO.
What about using jawbreakers and/or modifying the power? I know the pepperball tcp can do it, I imagine this one can be modified too. A jawbreaker going at 300 fps should be able to break bones, and potentially lethal if it hits the wrong spot like the eye or temple. I don't think this video should necessarily discourage people from using less-than-lethal guns. It definitely shows out of the box power and the default kinetic rounds aren't enough, at least with a single shot, but that doesn't mean this can't be a valid choice. I think gun owners just want to feel justified in using lethal weapons, even though vast majority of cases don't require lethal force.
Spending $400 to then have to modify it does not seem worth while. Not when you can spend substantially less for another option that will work. Then you have to think about the legal implications of using a device that you have modified.
@@BruceLeef at that point, might as well make it more realistic. I challenge anyone to pull the byrna, get it on target, and hit such a small target that is moving, whilst defending from an attack! There is a reason, not a single self defense professional teaches to aim for the head. Stay safe.
Yeah, this totally changed my mind. Causing physical pain onto a threat without actually impairing them is an even greater danger. If they're a true threat they may become extremely violent in response.
This video is the confirmation of what I already thought. I own an umarex hdr 50 boosted to 16 joules all paid for only 120 euros. When I met this Byrna I thought it was something more effective and instead thanks to you I had the confirmation that in addition to not being valid for self-defense it is unnecessarily expensive. The non-lethal defense pistol does not exist, unfortunately those who want a valid defense pistol must buy a minimum firearm of caliber 22. Thank you guys!
If I have an attacker coming after me I would not aim for the area that has the most clothing. I would aim for either below the waste or above the shoulders. You can’t disagree that those shots are going to hold someone back. This is why you had face protection because you know that would be the game changer. Good info to get out there though for anyone that has these so they know what to expect in the cold months. As you said no one shows testing out with heavy clothing so for that thank you.
Best review I've seen yet! You guys actually knew how to use the thing, used it not nude, and didn't shoot pepper / max balls as attackers carrying plywood boards like in every other Byrna sponsored review. You proved this, like many others in its class to be fair, are very accurate and expensive repeating slingshots. It is a fun toy thought.
Thank you!! It was what I set out to show. I really did have high hopes for this. But, it proved me wrong! I said the very same thing, people don’t carry wood boards with them! Thanks again. Stay safe!
I completely agree, And I sure as hell for that kind of money, for even one third the money, wouldn't get or recommend it. Because it DOES NOT WORK! In fact, my brother, who lives in Commiefornia, asked me to check it out to see what I thought. He'd sent me a video, which I stared to watch, until I saw this one on the right side of the laptop screen and watched it first in stead. Half way into this video, I sent him this link and said if you haven't watched this video yet you might want to. As after seeing it, I wouldn't buy it and I proceeded to tell him what I just told you.
The problem with any type of airgun that uses a CO2 cartridge is pressure drop in regards to temperature. And once you fire that shot, that pressure reduces drastically as the carbon dioxide within the cartridge begins to revert to a solid. That's why Byrna and the other manufacturers recommend that you keep the PDW next to your body to keep the cartridge warm in cold weather. This is probably why the gas balls didn't break on impact. Have you actually tried firing the Byrna with a warmed cartridge at someone wearing layered clothing to see if that would work? Personally, I have a carry permit and my pistol of choice is a H&K USP45. I'm more trusting of proven technology.
I used multiple cartridges. This included room temperature ones. I could only get the max rounds to burst when hitting a solid object. I wouldn’t carry this for self defense. Stay safe!
One thing to keep in mind is this is a small CO2 cartridge, once you get past the first couple shots the power will drop, especially in the winter, you can get adapters for larger CO2, although it was a mistake to not have a larger CO2 factory
I just stumbled on to this product today, and am doing my due diligence, and this video addressed my biggest concern of an attacker wearing layers of clothes. I live in Northern New England and 10 months of the year people have multiple layers on. I'll stick to lead and brass.
So, first of all- love the video! Thank you for the review/testing. Will say though, does it have more oomph when it’s not so cold? Live in a place it never gets that cool, and know co2 struggles for power in lower temps. Jw!
Thank god i didnt buy it! Not only that, but CA doesn’t allow any kind of chemicals rounds. So CA can only have the kinetic solid balls…..dumbest shit ever! $450+ for a solid rubber ball shooter. I’m good.
Well down here in Texas we do run around in t-shirts so it's pretty effective. I have personally been shot with a thing twice and it did hurt like hell. I've always had a problem with the regular byrna pepper balls bursting in my magazine, and that one definitely Burst when it hit a person. Because they broke so easy I have never ordered the byrna Max thinking they would not hold up in my magazine. I would definitely agree if I was wearing a heavy coat the affect would not be the same as when I'm wearing a t-shirt. I have to say it was a hell of a video and I appreciate you sharing it with all of us. I'm a big fan of dude less-lethal and Maga Man, I really love less lethal weapons have got yourself a new subscriber.
Appreciate the feedback. Good to hear other people’s experiences. When it comes to non lethal, I feel people really do need to test out what they have. Especially before they give themselves a false sense of security. Going in to the video, I had high hopes for it. Stay safe! 👍🏼
If you read the manual that comes with the Byrna it says to load one Kinetic at the top of the mag so the pepper ball rounds don't burst in your mag. Hope that helps. As for the testing, I've shot at blanket outside from about 5 feet away and 4 out of the 5 pepper rounds burst. No there was no cardboard or metal or anything behind the blanket. Not sure if it was just your rounds or maybe your CO2 carts being low. But never had this issue with mine and I live in a cold weather environment for 9 months out of the year. Thanks!
@Marshall Smith 4225 tollcross lane ftw Texas. I need someone to take a round on video for my UA-cam channel. I would absolutely love to see how much you laugh on the video. We can do next Saturday if you're available.
At last a genuine review. Nearly bought one (on basis of shill US reviewers) I can't imagine how I would react when if it failed to burst the ball when I needed it for defense. Total shite product.
I could not get them to burst when hitting a soft target. Regular pepper spray is more effective and reliable than this! Thanks for watching! Stay safe!
Interesting review... How do you think someone would fair against a head shot, leg shot or a shot to the groin? You made some very good points, but in a self-defense situation I would place the rounds where they would do the most damage and be the most effective. If an attacker had a thick coat on, I'm aiming above the chest or below the belt! But to each his or her own. Do what's best for you. Again, interesting video. You made some very good points. (Smile) Stay safe and healthy. Peace.
I don’t think the pain would be enough to stop an attacker. But, you have to factor that when you’re under attack, will you have time and the ability to place those shots on to the smallest target? Especially with only 5 rounds. Also, I could not get the max rounds to burst unless they hit a solid target. So I wouldn’t rely on them either. Stay safe! Thanks for watching.
I agree with this video 100% but in the case of making it effective most people would not be wearing a safety mask and I’m aiming at the face and that individual might lose an eye but I bet they stop cause one to the face is brutal
I just hope you get the change to make a head shot. Aiming center mass has always been the best bet. But, this is pointless if you’re going to do so. I would recommend traditional pepper spray. It’s easier to use and more likely to be effective. Stay safe!
I can’t see them making improvements any time soon while they are still working out how to produce the ones they have orders on. Thanks for watching. Stay safe
@@Mikes_Life purchase whichever one holds the most rounds and has the highest FPS. Which one is that? Or do some hold more but are not as powerful? Thanks
Best real life review I've seen on UA-cam. Great work guys. I almost bought into the marketing hype myself. The one I use, and would like to see you guys try and review as well, is the Tiberious T8.1 pistol. The marker has a lot more kinetic power potential. I have tested mine up to 30fpe. Not sure how much that is in joules, but, it packs a punch using glass breakerballs and also with Grinburg 8Gram HP68 mix PVC and Nylon shaped projectiles. I wouldn't want to get hit with one of the those rounds, even with multiple layers of cloths on. You got yourself a new sub.
The fact that the pepper balls are not bursting, tells me that either the one you have is defective, human error, or you have a rip off product! I seen so many videos where the pepper balls are burst on human skin!
I think straight up pepper spray is a better option. I’ve tested Sabre and fox foam. Both were very effective! But again, I definitely think you should test anything you’re planning to carry. That way you know what to expect. Thanks for watching. Stay safe!
I've been wondering about this same exact scenario & thought it would produce these results. It's not going to be easy to just hit someone in the throat/head area as they're moving & the same trying for the "Man Sax". Thanks for testing this for us. I hope they can work these issues out soon!
At the end of the day it’s better to have something that might de escalate the situation than not, it’s like saying what if the attacker was wearing body armour and your 9mm could not pierce it etc etc maybe get a M16 or carry a rocket launcher 😂 what if there are more than one attacker and they have weapons 😮 your gun is not going to save you don’t buy a gun. It will work for certain situations and not for others carry pepper spray as well just do what you can not everyone can obtain a firearm licence and carry one try to avoid becoming a target as best as you can thanks for the video it certainly helps people to be more aware stay safe people.
@@turncoat_tactical Exactly, you're supposed to puncture the cartridge with the first trigger pull during an emergency and then shoot your first round.
Problem is that the max rounds do not burst.
@@turncoat_tactical me too. Their after service and communication with them is LOUSY
Also pepper balls are not allowed or are legal in California, a fact that is not told or unknown to the buyer
Stay safe!
I’ve been through 2 in a week not working well the wind effects aim at 25 ft when it did work
Better to find out now than in a situation where you need it.
Why would I use that when I can literally buy an high powered baby gun what kind of baby gun looking penetrate through jackets instead of a gun what has real ammunition and that thing just sucks as you only consider it 5 times I rather shoot 6 times than 5
Okay we can call it only for summer use do you have anything you can recommend I will appreciate it thank you
I would recommend pepper spray over this. It’s smaller to carry, easier to deploy and more effective! Thanks for watching. Stay safe!
@@turncoat_tactical thank you very much I definitely would do that thank you
Best review so far, realistic reviews are best. And consider most degenerates are on drugs so that will make it even less effective.
Just get proper training, licensed and carry a proper gun for self defense.
great review!!!
Thanks.
Flicking horrible gun.. Using mag to loosen nut...... Jams EVERY TIME. .. THEN COMPANY WONT TALK TO YOU ...
Would head shits make a difference?
My question is was all those shots on the same cylinder? I would assume the fps would drop after the first shot
No, multiple c02s were used through the day. I have to say, being fair, there wasn’t much difference in power between the first say 10 shots. Thanks for watching.
so seeing this how do everyone fill about the tr50
I’m staying away from these types of devices. I feel that a good pepper spray is a better option. Easier to carry and use quickly and effectively.
@@turncoat_tactical@ Turncoat Tactical mace would also be more effective; only from videos did I notice that the Bryna jams a lot.
KIDS TOY ! 😂 🤣 😂 IF YOU SEE A POSITIVE REVIEW VID ON UA-cam IT'S PROBABLY JUST AN AVERTISEMENT BY THE COMPANY MADE TO LOOK LEGIT BUT IT NOT. ITS JUST A PROMO.
Hi were can I get this from.
Gun stores, eBay, byrna directly….
@@turncoat_tactical sory should have mentioned I'm in the uk . So can I or we get this here. Chears
@@Silversurfur01 I doubt it. It will probably classed as a firearm.
Basically buy a paint ball gun 😂
Yep!
This thing is utterly useless. Might as-well use a Nerf Gun
Take that mask off. And run this test back... 😆🤣
Wouldn’t make any difference! It remained accurate, it just doesn’t hurt!
@@turncoat_tactical 😆🤣... so if it doesn't hurt run the test back with no mask and shoot him in the face...
@@BruceLeef at that point, might as well make it more realistic. I challenge anyone to pull the byrna, get it on target, and hit such a small target that is moving, whilst defending from an attack! There is a reason, not a single self defense professional teaches to aim for the head. Stay safe.
@@turncoat_tactical nvm.... 😆🤣
@@BruceLeef 👌🏼✌🏼
Body shots were done. Due to the nature of the channel, unless you're good, head shots would work
Just buy a real ducking gun. Jesus
Since he has a mask Test max rounds on a couple of face shots

Yeah, this totally changed my mind. Causing physical pain onto a threat without actually impairing them is an even greater danger. If they're a true threat they may become extremely violent in response.
Totally agree!
Now try the grimburg gavle!
when criminal see u with this they will shoot at you and u have disadvantage, i rather have the real gun
Thanks for the tip, I'll just be aiming at the head or face then.
What if you demonstrated getting hit in the face!!!
Basically it's a weak paintball gun. Getting hit with paintball hurts and leaves a bruise but will not stop an attacker.
Exactly!
Well, maybe they should call this a "just piss someone off" device, then.
I believe you just saved me 400 bucks.
Test Mission TPR 330fps and way more powerful.
I will look in to it. I haven’t heard or it.

@@turncoat_tactical by the way great video
@@dudelesslethal6910 appreciate it!!
Stay safe!
@@turncoat_tactical THIS GUYS JUST LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO BUY ONE.
One thing to keep in mind is this is a small CO2 cartridge, once you get past the first couple shots the power will drop, especially in the winter, you can get adapters for larger CO2, although it was a mistake to not have a larger CO2 factory
Love the common sense review! Well done. Hope to see how others compare with the real lifelike tests!
Thank you!! 👍🏼🙌🏼
Common sense like a guy coming up on you and attacking you with a full helmet and eye gear?.... That's great common Sense bro
After watching this video I purchased a BYRNA HD XL and it’ll muck you up if you know where to aim.
I don’t like how the paint ball doesn’t explode though and just bounces off. 👎🏻
Finally a video of these launchers showing the truth when a fully clothed person is hit.
I just stumbled on to this product today, and am doing my due diligence, and this video addressed my biggest concern of an attacker wearing layers of clothes. I live in Northern New England and 10 months of the year people have multiple layers on. I'll stick to lead and brass.
I think you’ve made a good choice! I would not trust this at all! I would rather carry pepper spray.
So, first of all- love the video! Thank you for the review/testing. Will say though, does it have more oomph when it’s not so cold? Live in a place it never gets that cool, and know co2 struggles for power in lower temps. Jw!
I actually tried cartridges straight from the warm of indoors and didn’t see much difference. Stay safe.
Thank god i didnt buy it! Not only that, but CA doesn’t allow any kind of chemicals rounds. So CA can only have the kinetic solid balls…..dumbest shit ever! $450+ for a solid rubber ball shooter. I’m good.
I was very disappointed. I expected so much more!
Thanks!
@Marshall Smith everyone is a big man on a keyboard. I own real guns too and if this doesn't deter the bad guy the 9 will.
@Marshall Smith 4225 tollcross lane ftw Texas. I need someone to take a round on video for my UA-cam channel. I would absolutely love to see how much you laugh on the video. We can do next Saturday if you're available.
@Marshall Smith perfect let's touch base at the end of the week
At last a genuine review. Nearly bought one (on basis of shill US reviewers) I can't imagine how I would react when if it failed to burst the ball when I needed it for defense. Total shite product.
I could not get them to burst when hitting a soft target. Regular pepper spray is more effective and reliable than this! Thanks for watching! Stay safe!
Thank you for your honest review!! You just saved me some money
I'd like to see exactly what this guy is wearing . He's not showing all the layers of clothing on camera. ?
Tshirt, hoodie and body warmer. And then, minus the body warmer with a regular carhartt jacket.
I have the Byrna LE a lot better than SD.
Good test. Now I will practice groin and head shots majority of the time.
I definitely agree that if you are going to carry this, make sure you practice! 👍🏼 stay safe!!
Thanks, yeah, junk product
So it is basically a glorified paintball gun the size of a compact handgun, but not an effective self defense weapon.
Interesting review...
How do you think someone would fair
against a head shot, leg shot or a shot
to the groin?
You made some very good points, but in a self-defense situation
I would place the rounds where they would do the most damage and
be the most effective. If an attacker had a thick coat on, I'm aiming
above the chest or below the belt!
But to each his or her own.
Do what's best for you.
Again, interesting video.
You made some very good points.
(Smile)
Stay safe and healthy.
Do a couple of head shots with the max round.
Thanks so much; I have been thinking about getting one of these for my wife, but you just changed my mind! Thank you again.
No problem. I wouldn’t want someone I love relaying this!
That was my concern about buying one too. If the round doesn't pop when it hits a soft target, then it doesn't work.
I could not get them to pop unless hitting a solid target.
Not worth buying🙂👍🏽
I agree with this video 100% but in the case of making it effective most people would not be wearing a safety mask and I’m aiming at the face and that individual might lose an eye but I bet they stop cause one to the face is brutal
I just hope you get the change to make a head shot. Aiming center mass has always been the best bet. But, this is pointless if you’re going to do so. I would recommend traditional pepper spray. It’s easier to use and more likely to be effective. Stay safe!
I’ll wait until they improve the “byrna” until then I’ll be using the umarex pistols with “riotballs”
I can’t see them making improvements any time soon while they are still working out how to produce the ones they have orders on. Thanks for watching. Stay safe
@Birdusmaximus Canines can I ask which umarex pistol you use ? I’ve looked at all of them and can’t decide

I will check one out! Thanks for watching. Stay safe!
The fact that the pepper balls are not bursting, tells me that either the one you have is defective, human error, or you have a rip off product! I seen so many videos where the pepper balls are burst on human skin!
Best review I have seem. Is there any non lethal 'weapon' you trust and recommend? Thanks.
It will work for certain situations and not for others carry pepper spray as well just do what you can not everyone can obtain a firearm licence and carry one try to avoid becoming a target as best as you can thanks for the video it certainly helps people to be more aware stay safe people.
good to know
I'm not sure you even changed the CO2... Kinda wack.
Recommended to change CO2 after 2 clips and I'd expect max performance in only the first clip.
Over the day multiple were used.

@@turncoat_tactical Exactly, you're supposed to puncture the cartridge with the first trigger pull during an emergency and then shoot your first round. @@ImCubbies completely inaccurate. Not one of the max rounds would burst hitting anything other than a solid surface. First trigger pull or not.
