I saw Linda perform live in 1977. She came on stage barefoot, wearing faded jeans and a white peasant blouse. No lip synced auto tune, no dancers, no crazy light show, just a five piece band and her astonishing talent. They blew the roof off. Oh yeah, I left the show crazy in love with Linda, and I always will be.

Max I saw Linda in 1970 at the Hungry Bear on the Pacific highway in Huntington Beach California! She also came on stage barefoot wearing a pretty blue dress! It was a small club that was getting famous for the people that played there! The dress left nothing to the imagination especially for 19 year old she was so beautiful with such a incredible voice! A long time ago but such a great memory!

'There are two types of men in the world: those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her.

This song has been rediscovered recently by its inclusion at the end of a very sad episode of the popular HBO series The Last of Us. So now a new generation knows the beauty and power of her voice. She was 24 when she did this song.

    The lyric is:
    "Caught in my fears
    Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near."
She fears losing him but knows she has never had him.

Written be Gary White and recorded by Linda in 1970 she was born in 1946 making her 23 years old. Linda is one of the greatest artists ever. Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Country Awards, Kennedy Awards, Latin Music Awards, and on and on. This song, about unrequited love was one her earliest songs. “Different Drum” brought national attention to her amazing voice but then she was forced to go solo when her group broke up. She is directly responsible for the group the Eagles. Amazing woman.

It had already been around for a while, but did not become well known until she hit it big with When Will I Be Loved. Then everyone woke up and started listening to her. This is a song about unrequited love. Which is something a lot of us can relate to. This version of the song has been edited down for the program she was performing on. But if you listen to the full song with the entirety of the lyrics you’ll see the full despair of it. And even the final notes of the strings at the end leaves the song, just as the emotion, unresolved and without closure. Just as unrequited love feels.

    1) Linda Ronstadt was born on July 15, 1946. Her cover of "Long, Long Time" was released in June 1970, when she was almost 24 years old.
    2) The lyrics has "fears", not "feels".
    3) The video you reviewed is the single version, which lacks a key verse to shorten the track. Consider listening to the album version. The full lyrics follows:
    Long, Long Time
    (Gary B. White)
    Love will abide
    Take things in stride
    Sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side
    And time washes clean
    love's wounds unseen
    That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
    For a long long time
    Caught in my fears
    Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near
    And I never drew
    one response from you
    All the while you fell
all over girls you never knew
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me
    For a long long time
    Wait for the day
    you'll go away
    Knowing that you warned me
Of the price I'd have to pay
    And life's full of flaws
    Who knows the cause?
    Living in the memory
of a love that never was
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you
    For a long long time
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine

    For a long long time

As a teenager in the 70s, I listened to this song so much after I was so sad because of a guy I had a crush on. One of my brother's friends. We had albums back then with covers that were artistic. Many had the lyrics in the inside of the cover and I would listen for hours to music and read or sing along with the lyrics. My first memory of doing that was as a young girl with the soundtrack to Elvis's Love Me Tender.
Amazing what music can trigger in us, memories it brings back.

Linda is indeed singing to someone in particular, and the sum total of all the emotion in this beautifully performed song constitutes the ultimate "Man, you f'd up dude!" song ever recorded.

IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE is a song you will definitely like, as Linda brings her forlorn voice to delivery to the news.
But if you want hear the California sound she helped bring to the 7o's, along with musical acts like Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, Eagles, and others, try these great songs from her catalog.
    POOR, POOR, PITIFUL ME,
    TUMBLING DICE,
and personal early favorite of mine SILVER THREADS AND GOLDEN NEEDLES. It us truly a damned shame that she has been robbed of her voice and can no longer make appearances. The interest in her catalog remains strong as new listeners, like you and other You Tubers, discover what she meant to us who grew up with her. I wish her well with her health issues and thank her for giving us the fantastic music we atill enjoy. Linda will always be in our ❤️ hearts.

This is the 1970 hit that was her solo debut. Previously, she'd been in the Stone Poneys and had a hit called, "Different Drum" in 1967. But this song was the one where so many of us fell in love with her.

You should listen to the full original version. There is an entire verse missing from this one. “Wait for the day, you’ll go away, knowing that you warned me of the price I’d have to pay and life’s full of flaws, who knows the cost? Living in the mem’ry of a love that never was.”

She is the BEST singer, male or female..ONLY artist that could crossover ANY GENRE and killed it..be among of the best... Name another artist that could do that... She risked her career when she was ond of the pioneers and teht "safe" route was to keep singing the same genre... You can´t put Linda in a box...

She reminded me of this Linda Ronstadt. Diana has a new song “Romeo and Juliet”. The lyrics are really amazing and the song is beautiful. Much love and appreciation from California.❤️🍀🌈😇🙏🏻❣️

Thanks for reacting to this but i'm still living in hope that you will react to one of her Mexican (Spanish) songs. La Charreada or La Cigarra really show her range. It's not just a performance it's a spectacle, complete with mariachi band and live audience. Also, "down so low." The live version will take you to church. Hope you have the day you deserve too ❤

@@rubroken I don't think it fits into the "Big Band Music" (1940s) genre but I might be wrong. There is a Big Band behind her but the music is more 50s-60s. The kind of stuff you'd expect Judy Garland or Debbi Reynolds to do when they were singing in nightclubs.

A word of advice on the legends - download the lyrics and have them in front of you when you provide feedback on a part of the song. Linda is regarded by many as one of the greatest of all time and it seems a little disrespectful when you really like things and don't even identify the lyrics correctly. Also, this short version leaves out the best line of the song. You got the most important part right in that you felt the song and appreciated her brilliance, so I still say well done!

Linda moved from New Mexico to Los Angeles in 1965 (16 years old). She joined the Laurel Canyon family and rose to fame with the Stone Ponies. Her hispanic
roots were vocalized near the end of career on a Spanish album. A free spirit she shared her Laurel Canyon experience with J.D.Souther and later shared her life with
    governor Jerry Brown of California.

I have always loved this Woman's voice. Shw was prolific during the '70's, 80's and '90's with a very diverse repertoire. My opinion is that she was the foremost Female Vocalist of that era. To appreciate her vocal capability, I recommend you review her singing 'Poor Wandring One from the Pirates of Penzance movie in which she was the female lead.

Every time Linda was given advice about her career she ignored it. She was told not to do light opera, and then she did Pirates of Penzance and it was a huge success. She was told not to sing American Standards, ignored it and it was a huge success. Finally, was told not to release albums in Spanish, she did it and had the biggest selling Spanish language album ever.
