  • Fishing UA-camr? Nah.. Environmental crime scene investigator? Absolutely not, but.. This is something I borderline had to look into. The East Nishnabotna has been on my hit list for places it fish because I've heard ol' Clintoris rant and rave about it for what seems like.. Decades. Big saugers was the original goal, but after someone made a boo boo, the new goal was to find any sort of life. Every fish died on a 60 mile stretch of river in SW Iowegia, but did anything survive upstream? Let's find out. Stache bagger on the case.

    If the EPA and DNR do their jobs correctly there should be huge fines to pay and they should also be charged with the costs of doing a survey on what fish and how many were killed and then charged to have the river restocked.

    I grew up about 10 miles downstream in Essex. I learned to fish in this river. When the water is higher you would love it. Big flatheads, tons of channels, goldeyes and big carp. Hopefully the next time we get high water the river will get restocked by the Missouri river. Never caught a mirror though.

    years ago we had a retired Chrome plating shop owner dispose of a drum of waste from his old shop. Right into the creek in his back yard which ran into Lake Erie ( not real close ) Killed a bunch of rough fish,shiners,chubs,suckers & carp. Most washed away before the DNR could get there. He got a fine , mostly from dumping not the fish kill.

    So I live in a small town in northern New York and we had a train derailment dumping 100k pounds of plastic pellets and 150k pounds of grape seed oil. It hasn't had the same effect but there is a high volume of bald eagles in the area. It's crazy to me how little that was done about it and what will happen to the fish as it's made it's way to multiple waterways

    Some fertilizer is highly corrosive to metals, like iron, so if there is iron in the water you could possibly have it pool or fall out in slack water or puddles leaving the red color.

    We had a train derail just outside our little city and a train car fully loaded with benzene spilled into a river that is a tributary of Lake Superior. That accident killed a ton of fish and even months later when I went fishing in the bay just across from where the river empties into the bay I could still smell the benzene. All I caught was a couple of bullheads, not one game fish. I've caught, walleye, northern pike, Muskellunge, crappie, perch there. The fisheries have recovered but it took a few years.

A shame I can't just fish the river I can walk to. Although on a more positive note my dad takes me fishin all the time. How sad. I remember reading about this, and the bad truth is, they won't get any kind of punishment that will lead them to think of not "accidentally" dumping into the river. Many companies do this and not even the DNRS OR Game and Fish commisions can do much about it. I mean that could, but itll lead to them doing other than theor actual job. Great video nonetheless frozen stache bud. I love fishing the smaller rivers for sure. When do you think you guys will come back downward to Arkansas? I live in North Central Arkansas, near Hardy Arkansas. I'd love to get you on some huge smallmouth and some stuff. Some great fishing on the river around here.

      But this time it didn’t catch on fire 🔥. Spills or all sorts happen all over the country. Some do very little damage or effect certain species of fish and other times it really does get everything that swims or drinks. I remember a spill here on the Ohio river or a Zinc plating company that had a corroded valve leaking a solution containing cyanide and that was in the summer. It recovered quickly but it’s a lot bigger than the little river in Iowa

    I think the way something like this should work is a proper investigation! If a person was not considered the culprit then the company should be held responsible. Once that is figured out then DNR should be able to estimate total damages and whatever that amounts to should be what the person or Company should have to pay to DNR to replenish and fix that area!! If it cannot be paid in one lump sum within 90 days then at that point Jail Time and Fines will kick in!!!

      The DNR release said it had been leaking for some time when workers discovered the spill. They didn't give a exact time period but 265,000 gal should have been noticed. Recently a judge reduced fines for a similar spill in Iowa so the business didn't go bankrupt, I'm sure the same will happen here since it's a co-op. I wonder if the red stuff is red algae? I know that's a thing in salt water but not sure if it can survive in fresh water...but a bunch of nitrogen would definitely feed an algae explosion.

  • @faithfamilyfirearms
    @faithfamilyfirearms 4 місяці тому

    Due to the type of fertilizer, the time of year, and the fish it has effected IE "non-game species" aside from the channel cats and few sauger my bet is on this being intentional to kill off invasive carp. Which it has failed to do other than the grassers. It'd be nice if it would have wrecked the big head and silvers but it seems like it had zero effect on them.
