About the abortion thing. Making abortion illegal does not decrease the rate of abortion. According to a report by the Gutmaccher institute, abortion rates in more restrictive countries were about the same as those in less restrictive countries, however, the percentage of unsafe abortions increased up to 30%! Essentially, the data shows making abortion illegal doesn’t decrease the rate of abortion, but it does put the mothers in more danger. The real pro-life thing would be just not making it illegal, because it only puts more people in danger. Abortion rates have been dropping steadily over time though, due to better access to better contraceptives. Pro life people just need to advertise safe sex more. Too bad so many of them want to demonize sex before marriage!
Proper sex Ed, quality access to Healthcare and contraceptives are all ways to decrease abortion. I'm against abortion, I'd never want my partner to get one, but thats not my choice to make. Its certainly not my choice to make for every person in the country. But not liking it is a helluva lot different than wanting it to be illegal. A better comparison to draw is prostitution. Maybe you might not agree with it, but its going to happen regardless and at its core isn't harming anybody, provided safety steps are met. When you criminalize it, it becomes unregulated, therefore more dangerous to people involved, especially the women. Making it legal means the government can regulate it and keep people safe. I think we need to remember that when the second amendment was written the guns they had shot once and took a long time to reload. They didn’t have automatic weapons that can shoot 50 bullets at a time. There’s no reason why a person should be able to have that.

Do you want to know what's really dumb about this? The topic of "gun free zones" first popped up about a decade ago as topics like school shootings and Chicago's gun crisis became much more popular. What most people had a problem with wasn't so much the firearms as it was that either criminals or neighborong areas were having their weapons being funneled into regions with stricter gun control policies, which showed a lower risk of firearm-related murders or suicides on average. Of course, conservatives, being all about PERSONAL and IMMEDIATE liberty above other people's safety, dismissed these complaints and said that the very notion of "gun free zones" was an invitation for vulnerability and asking to be a target. At around this time, you would have these "patriots" walk in fully armed inside private businesses and flaunting their 2nd Amendment rights (while at the same time dismissing that such virtues weren't afforded to their black counterparts, with many more vocal individuals outright claiming they should be exempt because "muh 13:50"). At the end, the "conversation" died down with no real compromise and the rate of shootings actually increased, especially at schools. Part of that is because of a lack of proper safety measures and common sense regulations, but also due to the increase in mental health incidents and far right extremism. Of course, when a shooter kills kids in a school, Conservatives are the first to pass the buck on mental health, but then take away bucks from programs meant to address them.
Don't forget that the first gun control laws were proposed & funded by conservatives and the NRA, in order to keep guns out of the hands of Black Panthers who were protecting black voters from the Klan.

But the reason many pro-choicers peddle the “illegal abortion” argument is because illegal abortions are more dangerous and are often performed in unhygienic “clinics” with un-sanitized equipment by an amateur looking to make money rather than a medical professional. About the abortion thing. Making abortion illegal does not decrease the rate of abortion. According to a report by the Gutmaccher institute, abortion rates in more restrictive countries were about the same as those in less restrictive countries, however, the percentage of unsafe abortions increased up to 30%! Essentially, the data shows making abortion illegal doesn’t decrease the rate of abortion, but it does put the mothers in more danger. The real pro-life thing would be just not making it illegal, because it only puts more people in danger. Abortion rates have been dropping steadily over time though, due to better access to better contraceptives. Pro life people just need to advertise safe sex more. Too bad so many of them want to demonize sex before marriage!
Proper sex Ed, quality access to Healthcare and contraceptives are all ways to decrease abortion. I'm against abortion, I'd never want my partner to get one, but thats not my choice to make. Its certainly not my choice to make for every person in the country. But not liking it is a helluva lot different than wanting it to be illegal. A better comparison to draw is prostitution. Maybe you might not agree with it, but its going to happen regardless and at its core isn't harming anybody, provided safety steps are met. When you criminalize it, it becomes unregulated, therefore more dangerous to people involved, especially the women. Making it legal means the government can regulate it and keep people safe. I think we need to remember that when the second amendment was written the guns they had shot once and took a long time to reload. They didn’t have automatic weapons that can shoot 50 bullets at a time. There’s no reason why a person should be able to have that.

It will simply make the access more difficult and illegal. And as you said, it genuinely depends on WHO ends up with a gun under their possession. My opinion is that if a country is going to allow guns, there should definitely be some short of test or document to fill up to make sure that the person they're giving a gun to, is mentally ok and responsible enough to own a gun. Do you want to know what's really dumb about this? The topic of "gun free zones" first popped up about a decade ago as topics like school shootings and Chicago's gun crisis became much more popular. What most people had a problem with wasn't so much the firearms as it was that either criminals or neighborong areas were having their weapons being funneled into regions with stricter gun control policies, which showed a lower risk of firearm-related murders or suicides on average. Of course, conservatives, being all about PERSONAL and IMMEDIATE liberty above other people's safety, dismissed these complaints and said that the very notion of "gun free zones" was an invitation for vulnerability and asking to be a target. At around this time, you would have these "patriots" walk in fully armed inside private businesses and flaunting their 2nd Amendment rights (while at the same time dismissing that such virtues weren't afforded to their black counterparts, with many more vocal individuals outright claiming they should be exempt because "muh 13:50"). At the end, the "conversation" died down with no real compromise and the rate of shootings actually increased, especially at schools. Part of that is because of a lack of proper safety measures and common sense regulations, but also due to the increase in mental health incidents and far right extremism. Of course, when a shooter kills kids in a school, Conservatives are the first to pass the buck on mental health, but then take away bucks from programs meant to address them.
Don't forget that the first gun control laws were proposed & funded by conservatives and the NRA, in order to keep guns out of the hands of Black Panthers who were protecting black voters from the Klan.

during covid, My father was immunocompromised (CVID, later developed into a bone marrow disease) and we genuinely could NOT leave our home without risk of him getting sick. It makes my blood boil when anyone tries to downplay what covid was actually like for families let alone families with sick people. But this is just some conservative guy and every other "take" of his have made me physically revolt. So it is what it is but it's sad that there's an audience for the misinformation. I feel the need to say that the reason people say “if we make abortion illegal it will happen illegally” is that it is health care and it will happen regardless and illegal abortions can both terminate the pregnancy and k!ll the pregnant person. The argument with that point isn’t that “why make it illegal if it’ll still happen?” It’s “why make it illegal if it will put so many desperate women’s and GIRLS lives in danger”

I think the thing with abortion is that even illegally, the rates of abortion *don’t* go down, people ONLY find illegal means to do so because it’s a healthcare necessity. Whereas criminalising guns is more about shutting down mass gun production rather than ownership. The problem with guns is that there are millions more guns than there are people in America, guns are a supply issue and abortion is a demand issue.
