If a religion accepts anyone into it, hypothetically, it could attract certain types of individuals who might not have been able to gain access or acceptance into other groups, including individuals or types of people who are less tolerant of those who are different from themselves. Eventually, they could gain some measure of control in some spaces influenced or controlled by said religion and take over those spaces, making their respective cultures as intolerant to identities or lifestyles that differ from their own as they themselves are. What came to mind was the paradox of intolerance. It is not hypocritical to be intolerant of intolerance itself, even if one claims to promote tolerance, for if one tolerates intolerance, they are helping to allow intolerance to breed and grow. If intolerance grows and gains enough control, it can then result in intolerance to other things. So, paradoxically, the way to maximize tolerance is to be tolerant of everything except for either intolerance itself or anything that promotes intolerance.

I met nik by accident a few weeks ago before I knew anything about him. In the very few hours I knew him it became glaringly obvious that he had a complete lack of any actual knowledge of the Bible. I spent more than 8 years in Christian school and my father is a pastor so I am very familiar with the Bible. I had to correct him multiple times about basic and very common Bible stories, not even like semantics or specifics, like whole stories that he literally had no complete understanding of. He also took most of the things he did understand completely out of context. And then I looked him up and found this video, honestly not even surprised, just disappointed lol

Most things people think are "contradictions" aren't. Like eating shellfish. Or wearing mixed faberics. Jesus voided the dietary laws in the sermon on the mound. Also we are living in the new covenent. not everything from the old covenant is a sin in the new one. Context matters in the Bible.

I know you're joking-and it's a funny joke But actually, eating meat and wearing mixed fabrics was a part of the old promise in the Bible (also knows as ceremonial laws) And those laws were created to set God's children apart for God. But when Jesus died and came back, those laws basically became null and void-Hence why we now really only focus on the moral laws (like the ten commandments and other moral-based laws set in the Bible). Really the only religious group who still follows ceremonial laws are Jews. Again, get it was a joke, but letting you know that the mixed fabrics and eating meat isn't considered a sin after Jesus died and came back. (tattoos are still up for debate though)

These two are not mutually exclusive. Ephesians 5:22 instructs wives to submit themselves to their husbands, as unto the lord. However, Ephesians 5:25 also instructs husbands to love their wives, as Christ loved the church. The Bible calls husbands to be the spiritual leaders of their families, and for wives to be wellspring of love which nurtures the family and allows it to function smoothly. Both roles are invaluable, and difficult to fully embody. Some men aren't cut out for leadership, and some women aren't cut out for nurturing, and yet we trust God to help us become who we were meant to be. You're welcome to disagree, but this is what the Bible says. And for reference, Matthew 25:40 states that "God will reply, 'Whatever you did for any of your brothers and sisters, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did for me'", reflecting that we are in fact divinely inspired beings, made in the image of God, and should be treated with respect because of that. This is the literal foundation of the Western conception of human rights - that we should treat people well BECAUSE we recognize that divine inspiration within them. This doesn't replace Christ - rather, it holds our reverence for Christ as the absolute standard and commands us to treat others accordingly.

I'm honestly surprised that Nick acts like that, especially when he is part of a marginalized group that gets looked over a lot. I have a disability as well and often people who are disabled are treated as if they don't matter in society. So I'm confused as to why he would want to make others feel that way. People with disabilities don't have a fair chance sometimes and I've even heard a priest tell someone I know who's disabled and their mom that the person is disabled because God is punishing their mom. It's fine to believe what you want to believe in but once it starts to hurt other people then you really should take a step back and reflect. I hate how people use religion to constantly manipulate and hurt others.
There's a specific name for the phenomenon that escapes me atm, but it's sadly not uncommon for marginalized or endangered people to seek safety or acceptance in circles that are similar to those who would harm them. It's partially a defense mechanism and partially a bid for acceptance from the people that are prejudiced against them-a sort of insurance policy, if you will. "I know you hate people like me, but I think the same things you do! I'm not an enemy, I'm your ally against these other marginalized people." You'll see it in trans people who harass other trans people for not transgendering right, in queer people who support religion-influenced anti LGBTQ+ laws, in women who claim there is no such thing as sexism, in POC who claim that the racism they experience is their own fault, and the list goes on. It's rarely something that is consciously done, more often just the person seeking validation and finding that they can have it but only conditionally, so the natural progression is to throw someone else under the bus in order to safely cross the road.

But actually, eating meat and wearing mixed fabrics was a part of the old promise in the Bible (also knows as ceremonial laws) And those laws were created to set God's children apart for God. But when Jesus died and came back, those laws basically became null and void-Hence why we now really only focus on the moral laws (like the ten commandments and other moral-based laws set in the Bible). Really the only religious group who still follows ceremonial laws are Jews.
Again, get it was a joke, but letting you know that the mixed fabrics and eating meat isn't considered a sin after Jesus died and came back. (tattoos are still up for debate though)

I'm honestly surprised that Nick acts like that, especially when he is part of a marginalized group that gets looked over a lot. I have a disability as well and often people who are disabled are treated as if they don't matter in society. So I'm confused as to why he would want to make others feel that way. People with disabilities don't have a fair chance sometimes and I've even heard a priest tell someone I know who's disabled and their mom that the person is disabled because God is punishing their mom. It's fine to believe what you want to believe in but once it starts to hurt other people then you really should take a step back and reflect. I hate how people use religion to constantly manipulate and hurt others.

There's a specific name for the phenomenon that escapes me atm, but it's sadly not uncommon for marginalized or endangered people to seek safety or acceptance in circles that are similar to those who would harm them. It's partially a defense mechanism and partially a bid for acceptance from the people that are prejudiced against them-a sort of insurance policy, if you will. "I know you hate people like me, but I think the same things you do! I'm not an enemy, I'm your ally against these other marginalized people." You'll see it in trans people who harass other trans people for not transgendering right, in queer people who support religion-influenced anti LGBTQ+ laws, in women who claim there is no such thing as sexism, in POC who claim that the racism they experience is their own fault, and the list goes on. It's rarely something that is consciously done, more often just the person seeking validation and finding that they can have it but only conditionally, so the natural progression is to throw someone else under the bus in order to safely cross the road.

To be fair, go back more than 20 generations or so and a whole lot of people are a direct ancestor to every single person in a general population. Esther would have lived around 500 years before Christ, which is around 20 generations. She's probably your direct ancestor too. And mine. Ancestry gets to be kind of meaningless after a few hundred years. But I'm just an insufferable pedant, go off queen.
