I used to play Chinatown Wars on my ds all the time when I was in middle school. One interesting thing I found was that in the lcpd criminal database in GTA 4, you can actually find profiles for Huang, Kenny, Chan, Zhao, and Hsin.
Probably the most charming GTA game ever. This one actually made me buy a DS to play it. And it's worth it. The touch screen mini games add a nice unique feel from other GTA games. Like throwing the Molotovs feels so much better.

Them killing off Ling Shan was just a complete fumble. She seemed like there was just so much more about her that we didn't know, I definitely thought that Huang's interest in her was going to be the thing that was a catalyst for escalation beyond just the triads. But no, instead she is quickly killed off and despite being carried off in very strange fashion, we never get to see her again confirming that she has died. I liked her back and forth with Huang, the healthiest relationship between a man and a woman that I'd ever seen Rockstar's series do, but of course they wasted it. If only her death had been faked and she was actually working for the police or something, we could have had a lot more complex story if that had been the case
I don't have an issue with it primarily since I think killing her off almost immediately was kinda the point for them, to undercut the love interest sort-of trope they had at that point. I think they took a lesson from GTA IV that it's better to have a great relationship that's severed too soon rather than a half-baked one that outstays its welcome.

It was like a redux of what made the entire GTA franchise so much fun - especially with that balance of realism and cartoonish zaniness that the classic GTA titles had. It's also crazy how the only gta game with actual drug dealing was on a Nintendo console and it was super fun. I liked everything about it.
Such an amazing game imo ! The way it blends with the Ds and it’s touch screen makes it pretty unique for a gta game. Got wiring cars, digging thru dumpster, accessing your pda and even breaking your windshield when you drive your car into the water

Great video! Man i love Chinatown Wars, it's in my top 3 gta games (With GTA V and San Andreas). I love it's police system that is the best in the series and i kinda like it's combat the most - especialy sword fighting. In most gta games combat is sub par, but here it's simple but fitting. Also while i love psp exclusive content, driving on ds seems more pleasnt. One last thing that i see you presented well is that this game proves how good people at rockstar are at writing. There is no voice acting yet it's so well done and characters are memorable. And i don't get why people don't like Huang, he is probably my second favourite protagonist after Michel DeSanta - he is a decent guy for the cirucmstances we find him in, and i love his constant sarcasm. Also i love it's soundtrack, it's nice mix of old school and modern just like the game itself.
I remember sitting in my living room seeing GTA for the DS, I had to have it. Very very young at the time to own it but I bothered my mom so much she took me to K mart and bought it the same week it came out. funnily enough it was dropping around my birthday. Severely underrated GTA game, just recently played though it again. So much nostalgia
So fun fact, all these characters have info on the Liberty City Police Database in GTA IV and the dlcs if you access it. It's honestly great how far ahead Rockstar plan this stuff, they literally have Huang Lee's entire criminal record on there as well as a few others from the game
Best handheld created game for sure. I bought a ds off my old roommate just to finally buy this game and check it out for myself. As a huge fan of the isometric overhead view and the GTA games, i was very happy to find out that it was better than I had hoped it would be.

I played this when I was a kid, I was too young to get past this one mission tho, I didn’t know what to do, wish I still had it so I can finally beat it

The Android version was homebrew ported to the Vita. Need to play it after I play the other GTAs. Maybe I’ll play it on the Steam Deck if I can figure out how to play Android games on it.
I loved this game. Something about it was so dope. I distinctively remembered the death mini game for when you drove a car into water and had to tap the screen to get out or he’d do this over exaggerated Chinese accent “eehshiiiiit”
I've beaten this game 3 times on the DS and every time I play it, the middle-to-late game missions just blur together in my head, the web of rats and traitors and gangs and miniguns just turn to slop and just makes me go "OK so I kill these guys, and everything will end up fine."
12:50 yeah even as a kid I was surprised too how she was killed off "damn though I was seeing some Bonnie and Clyde vibes 53:50 Younger me: "what the actual f***!?"

The cops always did the same thing speed up along side you then ram a left or right straight into your car depending on which side they are on i think they were meant to get in front then turn to stop/block you but they just ended up rsmming the side of the car so predictable just wait till they gain speed then slam the brakes on right before they cut in.. 😂
GTA2 was my intro to GTA. The experience of going from top down view to 3d with GTA3 in real time was crazy. Everybody should go back and play the top down view games and see how different it is going backwards
Playing this on the DS was the full experience nothing else compares love this game
just past the into and already saying thanks for this. perfect background video for work.
This was developed in my hometown leeds..
imagine if we got a new gta in the future such as gta 7 china town or gta 7 tokyo i think that would be a insane colorful game
I remember beating this on DS… then the PSP version came out and I couldn’t look back. The graphics were 👌 nothing more nostalgic than the police lights glowing on the map during the night time
I’ll watch anything you put out. great hustle on the vids, quality always top tier.
This turned out to be one of my favorite gta games and it's the only game I ever completed on the DS. It was perfectly designed for that hardware. The story and gameplay was just phenomenal despite the limitations of the ds it felt super ambitious.
Ling
-Appear
-Die in the same mission 30 seconds later
I never seem to forget about Ling. R.I.P
I was a massive fan of this game and still am
Its my top favorite gta game
Everything just felt
PERFECT
Nice game :D An I know it was said a million times before but yeah the dealing mechanic was really addictive and so much fun!
Chinatown Wars is an unrealized masterpiece, it could have and should have been epic
I started playing this a couple months back, actually really like it. It takes the what I consider borderline unplayable top down gameplay of 1 and 2, and makes it not only playable but actually really fun. Started playing this a couple months back, actually really like it. It takes the what i consider borderline unplayable top down gameplay of 1 and 2, and makes it not only playable but actually really fun. Literally, only reason I stopped playing it is because my destroyed hands get numb from holding the PSP Go lmao. I gotta finish it at some point.
Thsi was actually the first GTA game I ever played and it was so fun. Didn't know there were different missions for the different handhelds. I had the DS version.
Love your videos! Always fun to watch. Will there actually be a GTA Advance video too?? I am hopeful.
The drug mini game was one of the best features in any gta game
The being able to sell drugs on the street for cash in this game was so wild at the time
Great video, Fuzzy!
As a kid i always thought the vehicles in this game looked like Matchbox cars. And i loved it!
Was boss on the DS with the quick time event type things.
Might have to get it and complete it
15:36 This is the reason I never finishd this game. I started it on DS, Mobile and VITA, but every time I meet this minigame I buy up every safehouse playing it and never get back to the missions...
Bro I love your videos! Keep up the good work 👏
Used to play this game on my phone all the time when I was like 10... good times
Lmao I love the Friday After Next reference I love you hahaha
Best handheld created game for sure. I bought a ds off my old roommate just to finally buy this game and check it out for myself. As a huge fan of the isometric overhead view and the GTA games, i was very happy to find out that it was better than I had hoped it would be.
This was my favorite gta as a kid. I played on my psp and my right thumb stick pad fell off and I never replaced it so I played this game with my thumb jabbed into the right stick lmao
the first enjoyable 1 hour video on youtube, good job man, i hope you'll get as big as mr beast someday.
I played this when I was a kid, I was too young to get past this one mission tho, I didn’t know what to do, wish I still had it so I can finally beat it
Love this game, while me and my brother are playing the story, in my free time I was doing the dirty work trading goods getting so much money I can buy everything
The Android version was homebrew ported to the Vita. Need to play it after I play the other GTAs. Maybe I’ll play it on the Steam Deck if I can figure out how to play Android games on it.
Love your attitude towards journalists
This is bad ass. Both on the DS and PSP. You have to play both for the full experience
I loved this game. Something about it was so dope. I distinctively remembered the death mini game for when you drove a car into water and had to tap the screen to get out or he’d do this over exaggerated Chinese accent “eehshiiiiit”
OH MY GOD THIS IS SO NOSTALGIC I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS GAME IN 2015 SINCE IT WAS SOMEHOW ON THE IPAD THIS IS MY FAV 2D GTA
I've beaten this game 3 times on the DS and every time I play it, the middle-to-late game missions just blur together in my head, the web of rats and traitors and gangs and miniguns just turn to slop and just makes me go "OK so I kill these guys, and everything will end up fine."
12:50 yeah even as a kid I was surprised too how she was killed off "damn though I was seeing some Bonnie and Clyde vibes
53:50
Younger me: "what the actual f***!?"
I find it so strange that this is the only GTA with drug dealing as a core activity. I thought it was so fun as a kid and really hope it returns in some form without the need of mods.
Man I love restarting the game over n over again to maximize my sales of.. uh.. “red stickers” made a lot of cash and bought every property at the start despite not being able to buy anything else.
Still works great on an Iphone 14 pro, ios 17
even with controller
Yo the freaking start of chinatown song is so funny😂😂😂😂😂
Your face is funny looking, your mum drop you when you were baby?
The Fast and Furious quote was incredible. I wonder how many people actually understood that reference!!!
WOOO BABY THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS IS WHAT ITS ABOUT WOOOOOOOO
What the game did for me was kinda helping me to find my profession as a dealer lol
had this on the ds and it was pretty good even though its actually weirdly disconnected from the gta series in general
That ambulance mission traumatized me a child.
I don't know about anyone else but I loved the game and you can get it on your phone if you want to play it still
bro really dropped a fast and furious line 20 minutes in
I remember playing this game on my DS when I was 8. I loved the game. I dont remember the plot but the minis like filling the bottles with gas was fun.
Thumbs up for the good mandarin pronunciation of "Huang".
