- What are Cole & Marmalade like at the vet? This is a question we often get asked, well this is what they're like…
Marm has quite the reputation at vets because of his CATITUDE, when he was going through chemo treatments every week, I sometimes had to go into the room alone and put a mask on him so he couldn't bite the vet techs! … Poor lil guy as been through so much in his short time here on earth :(
Cole's not fond of vet visits either and he's very vocal at times, but his hisses are just empty threats… We do our best to calm the boys down prior to vet visits, we leave the carriers out so they get used to them, use Feliway wipes and Rescue Remedy, but as you can see these have minimal effect on them unfortunately.
We also wipe down Marmalade with a blanket Cole as been using to get the horrible vet scent off of him in the hopes that Cole will be more friendly when he sees his brother again… but in reality it doesn't work that well and it always takes a little time for Cole to feel at ease with his brother back in the house after being gone all day.

My cat Orio hates the vet as well.. he gets very quiet around them, which I've learned is the calm before the storm. When a cat starts growling, good things are not about to happen. =^..^=

Not sure that any cat likes going to the vet, but it's a necessary part of life. These boys have an amazing life and are fortunate to have such responsible pet parents.
Jericho & Thunder The 2 Gray Cats ALL animals, even dogs hate the vets. They can tell when they're going to go.
I grew up with a lot of cats, I would try and calm them down by putting food in their carriers and petting them but they were still upset.
When the vet was finished, I had to cuddle them because they were so upset.
I think my sister's cat was the most traumtised, she would have severe panic attacks and would pee herself, I really wanted to cry because obviously they can't talk back 🙀😿

My dogs LOVE vets. Litterally I have to bring my dog to the vet quite often, because she has very sensitive trachea and a minumum cold and viola, we are at the vet, but on the other hand our vet always gives them treats and as a rescue dogs they are never full so they litterally drag me through the door (paradoxally the one who needs more vet visits tries to break the door just to get into the office) I am feeling so lucky that my dogs (even if they are fully aware what is vet) love them. I see how my boyfriends mom is strugiling with her dog each time she needs to vaccinate him :D
But what about cats - that is totally true. Bouth of mine are thinking that the vet is a hell keeper, one in particular is agressive, another is more like Coal and just hissess and whines.
Jericho & Thunder The 2 Gray Cats my Rocco howls and howls like the world will end. Then he gets in the treatment room with the doc and he pops his head up out of the carrier as if to say "what's up everybody! how's it going?" He's my weirdo.
Oddly enough, my one cat who went to the vet most was the one who actually liked it. She had kidney disease and all sorts of complications arising from that, so she was frequently in for tests, needles, and/or hospitalization. Yet she was always just excited to see the people there. She loved all humans, and especially loved meeting new humans, so going out anywhere there was people would be a treat for her. She tolerated needles and the like nicely as long as she got to spend time with friendly people. The only thing she hated about vet visits was seeing dogs and other cats lol

When the vet said "Yes, use your words" to Cole 🤣! My cat just doesn't like leaving our home. Its always a big to-do when she comes back: a melodramatic walk thru of our place as if she's been gone for centuries when it's been less than 45 mins (the vet just down the street), followed by an extended period of time outside gazing over the horizon as if she's trying to reassess her life, and a lot of unsolicited meows and mews coming from a relative non-vocal cat. She's a performer 😂😂😂!

My sweet boy turns into a demon when he goes to the vet. I literally heard sounds and growls I never heard come out of my cat before. If I didn’t know he was a cuddle bug I probably would be scared lol

Seeing Marm hiss was really eye opening for me. Awww no poor sweet but sick kitty!

It’s okay Marm, I hate going to the “vet” too, especially today. I got my wisdom teeth removed. I feel better than I thought I would though
That's good. I'm getting mine out in a couple of weeks and I'm so nervous. I've never had any type of surgery b4😓
Take heart. I am the worst dental patient an can say the oral surgeons do it quickly with minimal if any pain.

Pulchra Semper It feels different between the top and bottom sets (It’s more painful on the bottom) and while my pain is nowhere as bad as I thought it would be and I can actually talk, at its worst it felt like two knives in my gums. I’m actually feeling okay though. I’m still in pain but it’s not too bad. I can also tell there’s something missing in all four spots.
Seeing a doctor is a stressful experience for us humans too 😰

One of my previous cats was FIV+, and it was the first time I'd heard of FIV. But he lived for many years with it, and his brother was FIV-, and stayed that way his whole life. Cat owners can have many happy years with a cat who has FIV. It's something to consider carefully, but it can work out OK.
yeah, my first feline bb was FeLeuk+. she beat her projected lifespan by a LOT, as far as either me or the vet could tell her QUALITY of life was decent up till very close to the end, and she pretty much played/lived with my neighbors' kittehs who were negative without passing it on to them for YEARS.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought 'that can't be Marmalade, that kitty looks so angry'. Awww poor baby. I'm lucky my furchild handles everything like such a lil pro. She only cries if I'm not petting her. As long as she knows I'm there she seems like she is willing to let the vets do anything. Poor Marm. ♥
My cat Rupert loved visiting the vet, and the vet's office personnel loved him! One of many times at the vet's office, one of the vet techs apologized for taking so long to bring Rupert out. Everyone wanted to see him and pet him. He liked everyone there too. We also had a cat go through cancer treatment. His name was Barnaby, and he loved people too. Cancer took him from us, but Barnaby never complained even once. Our vet was amazed that he was so cooperative with all of the tests and the pokes. When she was taking several samples of his tumor, she poked him several times. Barnaby didn't grump at her, but finally put his paw on her hand as if to say "please stop". She told us later that he was the most polite cat she had ever met. She even had to shave his underside and he loved it! He just rolled around and purred! We lost him 4 years ago this week. I miss my little buddy. We had 5 wonderful years together. I think it is great that Marm is cancer free!

I love how the reacted at the vets. They hissed as if saying, "Stay away because I am scared of you and I might have to hurt you." But, then, they are so well-behaved that they don't try to do anything more than just hiss. It's like they hate the trip but understand that the vet is a part of their lives.
You did a wonderful job with raising two wonderful cats.

My cat is just the opposite. Hisses & growls at me, bites & scratches me when I try to examine him at home if he's sick or wounded. However at the vet the worst he does is struggle a little, Hell he doesn't even make a peep there or back. One day one of the nurses said she was even giving him cuddles & I was like, "Are you sure you had the right cat?" 😅

When our male cat came back from sterilization, he had that cone and his kids were afraid of him. xD 2 of them even pooped when he entered the room. That was the first time I saw someone shit themselves from fear. lol
One of my dogs jumped on another dog presumably without warning or provocation (She either caught or found a dead rabbit, a major prize she was very proud of) when dad took it away. She got so upset and angry about it that she turned on the other dog and scared the literal shit out of him as she nailed him. She absolutely took her anger out on him, as if saying in doggy words it was his fault dad took away her prize. Had my dad been another dog, she would've torn his ass up over it. But she knows not to mess with humans like that, ever.

I had a cat named sammy too. He was an absolute badass. He got his leg chopped off in the fan of a car and a while after getting it fixed up he caught a small fast rabbit on 3 legs. RIP.

I had a black and white cat we named "Smokey". He hated going to the vet. When he knew he was going he would save all his pee and when the vet picked him up he peed all over him 😀.

While there's nothing funny about vet visits, part of this video was a little comical. When marm is walking around the house a little dazed from the anaesthesia and Cole looks at marm then at the camera like "are you seeing this? That dude is high"

Try a bit of Bach's rescue remedy rubbed in their ears. The morning of, and about 20 minutes before you go. My vet recommended it. I was super skeptical because it seems really out there. But it worked. I mean, she's still not happy - but way calmer.
With my Kiwi it is the same. It litterally takes two people to get him in his kennel. And otherwise a very affectionate cat turns into a spining yoyo with nails and teeth. Though paradoxally enough, if i take the kennel door off and just leave the box on the ground bouth of my cats likes to sleep in them

It’s amazing how you have to shake them out of the carrier at the vet’s, then when they see/smell home, they explode out of it!

Wow, I've never actually seen a cat other than mine go to the vet. He just sits there, doesn't look happy but he doesn't even make a peep. Poor Cole and Marm, they really hate it.

I'm so glad the boys are doing well. My youngest who I swear has a split personality lol. His name is Yoda and one minute he'll be kind and loving the next he'll want to bite your hand off if you even think about touching him, take him to the vets and he's a completely different cat. You try and cut his claws at home he'll scratch you to pieces, veterinary nurse does and he doesn't blink and eye. My eldest cat Munchkin sings the song of his people until you let him out the carry box. Our middle cat Obi is a good boy but if we have to take all 3 of the cats to the vets once Munchkin starts singing Obi and Yoda join in and we 3 cats singing the song of their people at the top of their voices.

The funny thing for me was seeing Cole sharpen his claws after getting home. I was expecting him turn on you afterwards 😂
My cat Nala DESPISES the vets too. When she's in her carrier inside the car she'll start continuously meowing and crying. Then when we bring her in she'll start shaking so much the box shakes with her. When the vet tries to get her out the box she clings onto the inside and we have to end up taking the top of the carrier off and use multiple pairs of hands to get her out. One time when she was getting her vaccinations she struggled so much that the vet nearly stabbed her in the wrong place with the needle......

The thing about the Marm fella and Cole boy is that they try to be fierce but it always come across as adorable.
I remember when Marmalade went to his first vet visit, now that is going back in time. Marmalade your just as handsome as ever. ❤
To be honest: I don‘t like to go to the Doctor either. Sometimes I wish I could bite them too 😉😂
Poked, prodded, shots and sometimes fitted with the dreaded cone of shame...if cats had a dart board the face on it wouldn't be the local dog but the well meaning yet loathed Vet.
Hard to believe Cole and Marmalade, such sweeties, hissing and growling at the vet! My cats were afraid at the vets, but never acted like that. One of my cats even purred for the vet, and the tech said she had been a real sweetheart with them-- until it came time to put her in the carrier. Stacy and Nina were both at the vets to be spayed, and STacy and Nina were not notably friends. When it came time to put Stacy in the carrier with Nina, suddenly she put on the air brakes! With a little effort, both were in, though they hissed at each other. The finally settled down, side by side, with their heads at opposite ends, so at least they didn't have to look at each other. They both sulked until inside the house, when I released them.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video!! We had an incident with our little 'un having to stay overnight at the vet hospital. When he got home his sister was so mean to him! 8 months of trying to figure out how to get them back to living with each other. I feel better that even Cole and Marm have that scuffle because it means my kids are okay.

Thanks for letting us see a side of Cole and Marm that we had not seen. I didn't know both of them hiss in such a way during their checkups.
Watching this gave me a lot of reassurance. My kitty Ahri turns completely feral when I take her to the vet, complete with hissing and lunging. I thought she was just weird but seeing your two happy boys panic at the vet made me feel a lot better. No kitties like the vet!

Edit: My cat lets the vet poke and prod her and she never hisses or complains (she once got a temp check in her rectum and she meowed a sad little cry but didn't resist or hiss). Based on the comments I've read, I'm guessing that's not usual? Guess I got lucky.

As a new cat parent to 2 formerly feral cats, I find it most frustrating whenever something causes my cats to hiss or hide (new people coming to the house, loud noises etc). I can't help but think, "Other people's cats all seem SOOOO sociable and confident. I must be doing a terrible job as a parent :( "

Aww. Our two cats Cherry and Blossom have just been spayed and microchipped. This video really helped us with realising that a lot of these things are normal , such as the hissing at each other, and feeling drowsey for a few hours after the operation. You guys are amazing!!!
I'm so sorry that Marmalade has been through so much! Poor little guy. I'll think of him whenever we are at the vet.
