He's probably a perfectly nice cat. The cat I have now I adopted when she was 7, she is 19 now. She is the absolute sweetest, most loving cat to me you could ever see. But when I take her to the vet she is just like the cat in this video. Not only will she try to fuck up everyone at the vet office, but she will try to kill me just as much. She has fucked me up a couple of times. Last year at her checkup they were unable to draw blood from her for her yearly checkup. She is due this month for her yearly checkup and shots, so they will HAVE to get her blood this year. But the place I go to doesn't give them an injection, they have a machine they put them in and gas them(I can't recall the name of the drug they use). They have never had to use it before on her, guess I will find out soon if this will be the year they finally have to... ;-p
She might have been abused in her /his kitten hood before you adopted her. Many years ago I adopted a homeless young cat who acted the same as this cat. She would hide when visitors visit. I'm convinced that she was abused. The only people she would let pet her were my mom and myself. We kept her and she became very gentle, but it was a long process. I admire the vet's handling of her. Very professional and gentle.
You are exactly correct! I adopted her from PetSmart, and the woman there who fostered here until it was her turn for adoption said the previous person she was with was an elderly woman who had to go to a nursing home and so of course sadly had to give her up. THAT woman said she adopted her from another place, and that they told her the people that had her first had "abused" her. But no one has any idea what kind of abuse she received there. She doesn't only hate going to the vet's office. She hates having to leave the house. I had to have my house tented for termites a few years ago, and so had to stay in a nearby hotel for two nights. For about the first 12 hours we were there she was hiding under the bed and would try to attack me if I tried coaxing her out. Then she finally had to pee and got hungry enough that she came out, and after that she chilled out pretty fast. She also REALLY hates other cats. There are stray cats in my neighborhood and they will come up to the bay window where my cat loves to sit and sleep and mess with her. She attacks the glass and hisses like crazy. She also had to be kept in the bathroom when she was fostered because otherwise she would have attacked the other cats. So yeah, she clearly had some bad years in her past. But those days are all over now! She has been with me longer than anyone else now by far, and her days of being passed around like an STD in a whorehouse are over! I wouldn't give her up for a million dollars...
I've been a vet for 20 years and that was the most incredible demonstration of effective, safe but also sympathetic handling of the fractious cat. I really hope that nurse in the video is paid well, she is amazing!
I feed and rescue feral strays in my neighborhood and I always take my new ones for a spay or neuter, check up with blood tests, and any other minor medical care needed. My Vet clinic has staff like this. They are so skilled, calm and efficient that these cats have never even thrown a claw in fear or anger. This woman is very much like them. I was thinking the same thing about her pay. It is a rare skill, indeed.
Susan Varga Came here to say the exact same thing but you already said it so well that nurse is exceptional and I wish all vet interactions with animals were that competent and sympathetic and understanding she was outstanding
I worked for a vet for 13+ years and these ladies know what they are doing. I have watched some pretty horrific cat handling videos, but these ladies did an excellent job with this scared and angry cat! Keep up the good work!
@@misskelly9184 I get mad as well when my check in nurse at the doc's forces me onto the scale. She refuses to believe I'm terrified of heights and that my health insurance won't cover being weighed.
No...they tried that on me. My daughter-in-law's run across the street and hide if they see me coming out of the house. (Just kidding...we all get along great)👹
I love how calm she was like she even giggled a little at the cats behaviour The cat is like "imma kill you let me at her, i eat your family" And she's just like "aawwee"
I usually hate the stoicism movement, but this is the perfect display of when to be calm. A lot of women would freak out with a cat like this (probably why the other vets "fired" this cat). She's just like, yep, business as usual. So standard procedure is...
@@brohdaw the best thing to do when working with fractious cats is to be quick, quiet, and handle them as little as possible. They are not happy to be in the hospital, they don't know the staff, and soothing words would just be noise from a stranger. It would make us feel better, no doubt, but it may actually stress the animal more if they're already angry and just want to be left alone.
I was a veterinary technician for 9 years, I never got bit once. Now that I'm a paramedic... I've been bit by humans a few times. This tech did a great job with this cat.
Heroes to me are not necessarily the ones who respond to, but those who get up every morning and go back out in the world knowing they are likely to meet up with dangerous scenarios.
They handled this vicious cat masterfully. It takes guts. I used to work as a veterinary assistant when I was young. To those who call his treatment "cruel," remember they're helping him to live a healthy life. Refusing to treat him would be cruel.
@@clutchnixon5880 you don't have a lot of big cat experience, do you? Hint: they respond nothing like dogs. There is no such thing as making a cat like you. This cat has been to the vet before, he knows what's up.
This "Anger" is a common response to fear. These techs did an amazing job. They are kind, gentle compassionate and respectful of the animal. They did a great job of minimizing the cats stress and danger to all involved in his health care.....Kudos to a job very well done.
The only thing is, SOMETIMES, it helps to have the owner there to calm the animal. As long as the owner is calm, it shouldn't be a problem. But that isn't always a possibility.
My cat is a extreme coward and if she dosnt have a place to hide it will become "agresive", the last time I took her to the vet she could barely move because the pain of a infected uterus, and even with that, the vet needed double dose of anesthesia because she was fighting like crazy. She got surgery and the next morning all the vets at the clinic were asking us "is she always like that?" and next to her I saw writed "extremely violent- caution-" LOL she is not the tipical "do me whatever you want" cat, but she is super fond and affectionate to the people of the house. I LOVE MY CAT!
Yes indeed! Very talented and very good techs! My cat Glitzy acted like this with other people but was nothing like this at home with me...unless it was bath day🥴
My cat acts like this at the vet or when being put in a kennel and really don't think she's terrified, she's just super grumpy about doing things she doesn't want to do
This is one of the most professional and calm instances of handling a cat I've ever seen. Had a vet tech at our old vet roughly scruff a very sick kitten that couldn't hold herself up, much less bite or scratch. Good demonstration of only using as much force as needed.
@@octizhm amen to that, worked for some Time at a vet and After my first cat bite I really got some Major respect for people that can handle cats so calmly when they are really mad. Takes some guts to hold a cat like that

*Just a small point: She's not a nurse, she's a Vet Tech. The animal equivalent of a Physician Assistant. Both programs work the same way: they get a 2 year version of the 4 year (Vet or MD) program, and can do most anything their 4 year counterparts can. The main difference is the techs/assistants have to work "under the supervision" of a 4 year licensee. In the human world of Physician Assistants, thats **_very_** loosely enforced, but I don't know how it is in the vet world.*
@@measl vet techs are not the animal equivalent of physician assistants. Physician assistants go through a masters program and they can do most tasks that doctors can such as diagnosing, prescribing drugs, etc., while you only need an associates degree to become an RVT. Vet techs are more comparable to human nurses in both education and clinical tasks.
@jason crigger No they dont want it and people still do it to them if that happend to u ud be crying and going to meeting none stop teeling people that u were abused agaisnt ur will
I've taught my kids to watch out for the signs of a scared animal. If you push them they will bite out of panic. People sometimes misread a vicious animal when it's simply terrified of people or the situation. I've never seen better handling of a scared, unhappy cat.
@godlessmath I agree, you weigh the cat + carrier before you even start to remove it from the carrier, then you can weigh the carrier - the cat when you get the chance.
Yeah if you're not trying to break it's bones. Cats are capable against things that aren't trying to actually hurt them like the alligator that didn't understand what it was and thus unable to determine where the cat was in comparison to itself on the food chain. Cats at least house cats aren't really scary they're just pains in the a*s which is why dogs are much more fun to hang with you don't need a silly ritual everytime you deal with them.
@incogspectator3042 Youve obviously never seen what a 20 lb house cat can do if it attacks a human. If a cat wants to fuck you up and you dont manage to block it when it leaps on you youre getting torn to shit. Could a cat kill a healthy adult human, no. Can they blind you (they instinctively will try to claw eyes), cause massive infection with their bites and tear you to the bone, yes. A 20 lb cat is way more dangerous than a 20 lb dog. Most cats arent going to full on attack a person, though.
This was impressive, that vet tech deserves a raise, she never missed a beat while handling a difficult situation. I've had cats all my life, never one like this, but I know they can do a lot of damage between their claws and teeth. Job well done.
The cat is mean bc they muzzle him everytime he goes there...Blanket and sedation.. they stress out the cat for nothing... they do not know how to handle cats..
I have a cat that’s a really sweet cat, loves other people and is a terror at the vet. I give her a little happy pill an hour or so before I go and the vet and techs work very fast!
My dog Layla my cat is like this at the vet unfortunately, but at home he’s a total baby and sweet. that cat may very well be uncomfortable or scared is all

I would ABSOLUTELY bring my animals to this lady. She knows her job, how to handle the animals CORRECTLY and she cares about the animals safety along with herself and coworkers.

Yo Momma I will never bring my cat to this lady. She is too rude to the cat. I remember my cat reacted friendly when the vets treated it friendly. However my cat became angry when the vet/nurse treated it rudely. I believe that cats know who are nice to them and reacte friendly when the vets are kind. Actually some cats even choose the vets they like. As the owner of cats , I choose the vets that may my cats happy. I have fired the vets who make my cats angry.
Actually I have worked with both animals at a vets office and with people-I would choose the animals over people in most cases. Most animals will give you unconditional love and the ones who are like this are so because they are scared. Some people are just mean!
@@karengreen2437 That's what I was thinking. I'd definitely want to work with animals over humans. Animals really can't help it, they're scared and obviously lack the understanding of what's going on.
Just so other viewers know; This cat might appear extremely wild and violent here at the vet, but it's very possible he acts just fine when he's home. Some animals just really, really hate the vet. And can you blame them? :P
Princess YuBeace exactly. My cat has Matt’s on her belly but the vet wants 170-400 depending on the amount of sedation and time needed to shave her. At home she lets me brush her but not her belly so that’s gotten matted. She has been trained to go outside but stay in our yard. I can put a leash and harness on her and she won’t fight or bite, I can trim her nails and wash her ears. Those saying it’s poor pet ownership that they are like this at the vet don’t know what they are talking about. The only time she has ever known pain was at the vet. She’s had shots, two physicals (shes 3) and was fixed at 6 months and she KNOWS what the vet is. It’s not a happy place. Her tummy is also very sensitive and I can’t dematt it without her getting angry. I’ve tried and I think it hurts so she lets me know to back off. She’s not mean and she’s not dumb. She answers when I call her to come in from out back and wakes me up if I sleep in and breakfast is late by pulling down my blanket and kneading my chest or “combing” my hair with her claws. She’s an angel except if you touch her belly and I can’t blame her. But for those who say it’s poor pet parenting... you can kiss my behind. It’s not.
I can confirm. My boi is a love bug at home and nice with visitors always but even a little smell of a vet or a glance at a vet he goes KILL MODE instantly! We all lose some blood on those sessions 😅
@@kristinlong2278 You are exactly right, my friend. People who comment nonsense like that obviously don't know anything about cats in particular-- or they simply don't pay nearly enough attention to animal behaviors specifically related to cats. Every single cat has such distinct personalities, quirks, and traits. They can't be compared to any other domestic pet-- or even to each other most of the time-- because they are just too different. And that's not a bad thing for people who adore them just as they are-- and on their own "cat terms". As you I'm sure you know, cats are extraordinarily intelligent, and their memories are long. They rarely forgive easily (if at all), especially when compared to our canine pals who most of the time will forgive too easily and too often. How any cat behaves at any time, especially away from home, rarely has anything to do with "pet parenting"-- that is just absurd. For one example, we don't socialize cats in the same way that we do (should!) socialize dogs. It is simply about personality traits, unique personal cat experiences, and hundreds of thousands of years worth of genetic programming. It's almost like they really *_are_* from another world, LOL! Vets are traumatizing to almost any animal who has had vet care, but especially vet care that involves any traumatic injury/illness, or surgical. You are right again-- vet = pain and fear. People should think about it like this: they not only *_experience_* pain and fear upon themselves, but they also *_smell_* injury, sickness, and even *_death_* at any vet office. They *_sense_* pain, fear, distress, etc. from both animals and humans-- in the entire building. I know those feelings all too well, and now I have PTSD that is medical trauma-induced. Imagine if you just can't understand any of the *_why,_* which is hard enough to understand if you are human and can speak. If I could, I would *_show_* you how to safely clipper the mats and fur off of your kitty's belly-- with much less trauma, stress, and/or expense as at any vet office. It's no fun for either of you, but it is doable-- though while doing it you might not feel too sure about that. Still, I've even clipper-shorn feral cats who were injured-- that's "fun", lol. Maybe you can search UA-cam? There could be someone who has made videos of some methods or ideas to clipper cats? There seem to be videos on "how-to" everything else nowadays! _Note:_ Men's beard clippers work well, but make sure the clippers don't get too hot (check all clippers often for heat). Be careful not to nick them-- use a half-moon motion-- start level with the cat's body, and then sweeping upward away from the cat's body. Also, try to hold the skin taught (stretched tight) to avoid nicks. I could try to comment how I've done things, but it would be really lengthy. Please heed another bit of loving advice with whatever you may try-- *_do not_* ever use scissors on your cat-- any cat. Scissors are a perfectly dangerous opportunity for something *_really_* bad to happen to you or to your cat. Sorry this comment got so long! Good luck to you and your furry little girl. The mats are most certainly hurting her, bless her, because they pull and pinch the skin so hard. Maybe why she hates to be touched there-- it already hurts enough?. I am wishing you the very best. Be safe and be well. ~Peace!
No laughing, cats hate that. Seriously, these guys are so kind and completely professional, that is one frightened and angry cat but they know exactly how to handle him. Total respect for them both.

At least your cat is sweet at home. One of our still living cats is not sweet anywhere hehehe. But I have one cat who doesn't mind being poked by the vet. In fact, when she got a double hernia, she was still sweet despite the pain when the vet had to poke her abdomen to determine the correct location of the hernia.

@@melissaalexander6736 To bathe a cat correctly you need a "kitty be good stick." If Mittens starts to try and un-ass the bathtub, just apply the "kitty be good stick" liberally about his head and shoulders. Be careful. He'll try to rocket out of the tub first thing so you'll need to be quick with the first "kitty be good stick" application. After the initial application Mittens might appear to be injured. That is just cat trickery, as they are related to possums and will feign injury. Mittens isn't injured. He is only resting and gaining strength for his second attempt at freedom, so another thorough application might be needed. When handle well this one is all talk. Some cats try to break free and bite our heads off all the time
Stefan Herns I’ve learned the same stuff at home cause my cat is a bit of trouble when it comes to clipping his nails and I can say blankets and treats are your friend
M D I’m not quite sure. They could have done so through his kennel but maybe it would have been unsafe because they cant hold him still and get the right spot? I’m no vet. One thing I do know, though, is that sedation can be a little unsafe especially depending on the animals condition, so they usually do bloodwork to determine if the animal is more at risk. Maybe they didn’t have bloodwork done or the animal was not in a position to be safely sedated.

@@wa7saka I know, people have tried to protest against it. The govt doesn't even allow us to keep cats in flats (where most of us live) and if they find a stray cat that they dont like, they just put it to sleep, its so wrong cats are so adorable and loving esp the stray cats I've met
The downvotes are from people who can't seem to fathom that some cats simply do get angry while at the vet and there's not a whole lot to do about it, other than the vet nurses and doctors taking appropriate measures to protect themselves from nasty bites and scratches (My cat gets so angry that the vet nurses won't even touch it before it's sedated, and I have to personally do the handling and holding until it is sedated - I wear big weldinding gloves for this part). No in their mind this behavior is a provoked response, because they vet nurses - despite being professionally trained and probably handling more cats in a month than the average person will ever see in a lifetime - simply don't know how to handle a cat without upsetting it, that all protective measures only make the cat more upset, and that they, with *their* natural cat affinity could surely make a cat like Max take a vet visit with a purr. It's rather dumb honestly.

@@brohdaw the best thing to do when working with fractious cats is to be quick, quiet, and handle them as little as possible. They are not happy to be in the hospital, they don't know the staff, and soothing words would just be noise from a stranger.
@@measl in some places vet techs are referred to as veterinary nurses.

I've taught my kids to watch out for the signs of a scared animal. If you push them they will bite out of panic. People sometimes misread a vicious animal when it's simply terrified of people or the situation. I've never seen better handling of a scared, unhappy cat.
@godlessmath How is that easier? You just added more unnecessary steps. When all they did was simply put him on the scale.
@godlessmath I agree, you weigh the cat + carrier before you even start to remove it from the carrier, then you can weigh the carrier - the cat when you get the chance.

The ability to restrain an angry cat is a martial art.

@incogspectator3042
Youve obviously never seen what a 20 lb house cat can do if it attacks a human.

Jevonte Hodge I’d like my pets to leave the vet clinic ALIVE thank you very much.

You are exactly right, my friend.
~Peace!
Can't blame them at all. That's the way I feel about going to the doctor.

To bathe a cat correctly you need a "kitty be good stick." If Mittens starts to try and un-ass the bathtub, just apply the "kitty be good stick" liberally about his head and shoulders. Remember to use your "kitty be good stick" liberally and often to ensure that Mittens has a great bath time experience!

And Gets the Care He Needs, Good Boy. 💙🖤♥️🐈
This is what happens when you don’t give Garfield his lasagna.

As if Garfield will ever actually lose weight

Can we just talk about how nice they were to accept the cat when no one did 😌✌🏻✨
Who said this cat wasn't accepted though
@Jenn D o h
I'm guessing the other vet clinics didn't know the proper way to handle an angry cat. They should watch this video.
@@wolffriendinus Or they didn't want to deal with him. 🙁
@Jenn D Nice
I don’t even have a cat but I do appreciate your steadfast dedication to do extra steps just so that cat and owner get there fair chance at a vet also. You’re doing a good thing weather your mad angry sad happy. Just keep doing that
Vet Schools should use this Video, I like how Megan explained everything she was going to do during restraining the kitty!
Absolutely!
My school watches her all the time
For me, a simple rescuer, this was amazing.
I'm in my last year at vet school and we kinda do the same, just using a buster collar instead of muzzle most of the time (cause our muzzles arent as good as this one)
But believe me, there are cats worse than this one. When handle well this one is all talk. Some cats try to break free and bite our heads off all the time
Stefan Herns I’ve learned the same stuff at home cause my cat is a bit of trouble when it comes to clipping his nails and I can say blankets and treats are your friend
I think max is the one who is looking to draw some blood

Tech: We’re gonna get a weight- don’t bolt
Cat: Screams from the depths of the underworld
Tech: *nervous laughter*
Why didn't they do everything while he was sedated? That would have caused less duress
@@mariedalton44 They didnt know his weight, so they cant accurately give him enough without it being too little where he wont fully be affected or too much where it can hurt him
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bahahahahahhahahana
Brown blanket you win this round, but we will meet again.
Attack of the killer blankey
That Nurse is a genius.
Some of her techniques would be useful in a human ER.
She also has great technical skills with phlebotomy.
All the best, hope they pay you well.
If only large blankets and muzzles could be used in the ER 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly I get bad anxiety when I have to get blood done so if the nurse just wrestled me with a blanket, it would probably help me relax
Yes she does, I'm a phlebotomist and I was admiring that.
it's almost as if she studied that....
no she really doesnt that butterfly needle should not poke out the vein like that number 1 its built to go completely in the vein its more of a lateral placement vs at a degree and you seen how fast they edited that part probally have to do it again im just saying
What a wonderful, amazingly calm, professional woman. I would find a job like that super stressful, she's brilliant in that role.
*CAN I SAY SOMETHING? YOU WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, INFORMATIVE, PATIENT + CARING. YOU AND YOUR HELPER CONDUCTED URSELVELS IN AN "EXPERTISE" FASHION. GOOD JOB
Merrick Blvd animal hospital could learn something.
I'm only there once a week, lol.
Margaret Szuky now if we could get owners to comply and go all the way with their pets. Yes I mean money. It take a lot of people and medication to go into a surgery and an appointment. That takes dollars.
Margaret Szuky OKAY
Margaret Szuky Please find the button that turns on the caps lock off.
Margaret Szuky “Urselves”???? Never heard of this word!!!
You have to have a special kind of passion for animals to be able to relate and handle them like this. She's Amazing!
True. Maybe same to be said for owners. I jiust don't get ths appeal of most cats. But I do for the minority who have "dog personalities!" .. All Gid's creatures, though 🌷
I don't understand how this gets any downvotes. The veterinarians were super organized (which is a rule I follow religiously) and gentle. I'm really glad they handled this fearsome predator so professionally ;)
There's always a rule that vets should follow: No matter how dangerous or hateful an animal is, you don't get mad at them when doing any check ups or other processes.
@@graciegonzales2077 in Singapore, we just put any cats we don't like to sleep
Steffi that’s not good
@@wa7saka I know, people have tried to protest against it.
You should do angry kitty classes. You are a class act!!! BRAVO!!!
The staff is wonderful . So professional and it's quite evident that she loves her job. Kudos to you, lady and your partner.
But she put a muzzle on him!
Emily Snow yeah. and? The cat is angry and could very easily injure one of the staff. He can breath and do everything except harm anything or anyone. It’s not like he has it on forever???
You called that professional.. I call that stupid.. Putting a fucking muzzle on a cat and then realizing that they need to sedate him.. and they have the guts to say.. well he hates vets.. no wonder stupid!
As a vet assistant I feel like this was one of the calmer angry cats lol
it can be worse?!
@@yanstein8464 oh, sosososoooo much worse. But I also feel that the temperament of the people around him made all the difference.
Aw yes my mother's cat becomes a professional contortionist when she's angry. It feels a bit like she suddenly has 8 legs instead of 4. Believe it or not she's way more calm but she was rescued from an abusive home so she's always gonna be a little bit of a bitch. Lol
Definitely!
Lol

I thought she said the bloods come back for oral disease so they had to check the cats teeth/mouth
I am so impressed how precise and professional and calm you were when doing all of this and even though the cat was angry you kept it's stress levels to a minimum.
