Ibrahim Maalouf you are a mad genius, and what an excellent audience and group of musicians you guys have in there! I wish I could be in one of your concerts!!!
Best Regards,I Love your music, I m Interested in the name of the first song at this concert it s fantastic.I write my wife s profile-Bojan from Serbia.
While surfing in UA-cam, I found this masterpiece.....It is amazing how many unknowns are yet to be found, how many jewels are hidden.......It is a joyful experience.

I'm watching this in September, 2020. This video hit me for two reasons. Seeing the audience amazed by Maalouf's music, enjoying it together, with their loved ones... It made me really want to feel that magic of live music performance and share it with people. I wonder when I can do that again... However, this concert took place just a week after the " Gezi Park" events in Turkey. Some people call it a riot, it's controversial. People were protesting to prevent a historical park from being destroyed in Taksim, İstanbul. Then, this movement spread to other big cities, Ankara, İzmir etc. I know Maalouf wrote "Beirut" to express the sorrow and the pain he felt while walking in the streets of Beirut, caused by the war. This music is about sorrow, pain and maybe fear. I've seen that, the people in the room felt that sorrow in their own way, through their own recent experiences. When I realized that, I felt the need to share my observation here, because I thought the people whom this music touches should know what is underneath those faces, in the hearts of the people in that room.
I stumbled across this video thanks to a YT suggestion about a month ago. I was so blown away that I ended up traveling to Montreal from Kansas City just to see him live at the Jazz Festival. My wife and I were blown away by him and every musician that shared the stage with him. One of the best concerts we have ever been to. I hope to see him more in North America.
I had two strange experience with listening Maalouf. I was in states and listen his songs and two different times two person came to me to ask what i'm listening so they can listen that too. I had that experience only with him. Masterpiece
I don't know - nor do I really care - what "they" call this kind of music, but to me this is the kind of "jazz" that really speaks - mainly, because the SOUND is powerful, percussive, sharp, and clear as opposed to the kind of "smokiness" that I tend to hear in some other forms of jazz. In my ears this sounds like jazz that grew another testicle without even asking if another was needed.
Finding this precious gift from the music world took me by surprise coz I was just surfing UA-cam. Just amazing and mesmerizing talent. Born to Cuban roots this music brought back youthful memories. May you all be blessed.
