Steve Shehan, percussionniste qui mêle avec une immense facilité jazz et world music a récemment ajouté à sa palette musicale le hang pan, un instrument apparemment simpliste mais qui recèle de grandes richesses. On pourrait croire cette sorte de steel drum née dans un pays lointain et utilisée depuis des siècles... La réalité est toute autre car le hang a été créé il y a une dizaine d'années à Berne, en Suisse. Un emblème parfait pour l'artiste donc, qui fait fi des frontières et des clichés.
Ce concert donné à l'Alhambra met à l'honneur Hang with you, le huitième album solo de l'artiste. Des compositions comme un voyage entre les continents car s'y entremêlent des sonorités et des images issues du Gabon, de Mauritanie, Cuba, Kaboul... Cette excursion se fait en bonne compagnie puisque Steve Shehan s'est entouré d'artistes aux univers et talents très différents : Ibrahim Maalouf, Vladiswar Nadishana, Golshifteh Farahani ou encore Nabil Othmani. Quatre artistes à retrouver parmi de nombreux autres au cours de cet envoûtant concert.

Thirty-five minutes into concert - * - enchanting women vocalists contribute to the eclectic vibration of the musician-artistes all of whom get their 'moment' to shine. Steve reste un être humain exceptionnel par ces qualités multiples absolument vertigineuses ! Qualités humaines infiniments accessibles , novatrices et musicales bien sur , et sinon autrement , mais pas seulement ! C'est alors sans compter avec ça passion de voler en avion à l'identique de ces tempos d'extra terrestre ! Un homme rare , magicien des rythmes envoutants et toujours dans une nouvelle quête de tout les instants avec l'immense plaisir de le partager avec de splendides artistes au combien multiples , et ceci bien haut delà de bien de frontières ridicules et infondées qui nous sont parfois décrites ! Qu'il en soit ici remercié alors parmi ces grands intervenants tout aussi magiques !

Gran percusionista, un músico sin límites, Steve Shehan estuvo en mi casa, cenamos, compartimos, escuchamos música en mi estudio en La Floresta/Caracas, y fue una gran velada . Estaba con su esposa y con varios integrantes de su banda, uno de ellos era un Tuareg transahariano que tocaba el Ud, y recuerdo que era médico y recorría el desierto en un Mercedes benz atendiendo pacientes, según nos contó, lo acompañaban tres silenciosas coristas al estilo malinés que también cenaron. Mi socio Paul Desenne era el traductor tuareg-español.

This music comes from the cradle of civilisation, as such it is timeless and it belies "useful" labels or words..
It beautifully transcends the divide between music and ethereal vibration.
I don't know how it came to me to hear these artists, whatever it was, it's a blessing.

I just can't describe how perfect this concert is. But let me give it a try: Not only the music is technically flawless and tasteful (excellent well-known musicians and perfect recording and mixing), but also the scenery, the setting is ideal and fits the music's mystical style so well. The lighting which perfectly blends with every single song and highlights the soloists so well and yet so unobtrusively. And not forgetting the filming, which captures the ambience and the tension of those beautiful 84 minutes, making everybody in front of their screens feel as if they actually were part of them. (Disclaimer: I am German, please explain my possibly inadequate English)

Rather than showing any linguistic inadequacy, I think you described some of the elements that contributed to the overwhelming excellence of this concert in near-perfect phraseology.
Apart from the skills in both the composition and individual musicianship being displayed, there was also a wonderfully balanced blending in the timing, volume and intensity of the sounds created.
Mr Sheehan took centre stage (as was his due), but did not dominate proceedings to the exclusion of the other artists (bar the 'Skin Touch' percussion solo at 58:36), and the other talents all stepped up in turn, shone brightly, then stepped back and blended again, egos held secondary to the overall quality of the collective sound.
In addition, the production designers, and the sound and light people.involved, also earn my respect and congratulations for how beautiful the whole thing sounded and looked.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to express your appreciation more eloquently (in a second language) than many could in their mother tongues.
