I’m still mad that Sixer management broke up this great team. They would have won more NBA titles if Jack Ramsey and Irv Kosloff had acted differently. Definitely in 1969, and strong, strong contenders in 70-73. Instead, Sixer management broke up the team, and destroyed it.
@@70sfan This 44-37 Warrior team played 68-13 Sixers extremely, extremely, tough in 67 championship series, falling just short in what would have been a monumental upset. They almost pulled off a comeback, barely losing in overtime in game 1, except for a controversial no call foul on Wilt which went against San Francisco. To this day, Rick Barry is still mad about this no call on an obvious Wilt foul against Nate Thurmond at the end of the game, which could have won game 1 for the Warriors, who mounted a stirring comeback. Chamberlain basically mugged and assaulted Thurmond. No call by the refs. They also stunned Philly in a game 5 comeback rally at the Palestra after trailing by 13 points entering the 4th quarter, and barely lost game 6 at the Cow Palace 125-122. This series could very easily have gone the other way. People forget that. 1967 was the only year during the entire 60’s decade that Bill Russell’s Celtics did not win the title. Unbelievable. Games 2 and 5 of the 1967 NBA championship series were broadcast on ABC. The rest of the games I listened to on powerful WCAU radio (whose signal stretched all the way to Syracuse, NY) with Andy Musser calling the action. Those were the days!
First thing you notice is no three point lines. Second is spacing on the floor offensively. Third is pace of game. There is flow to the game. There is defense. There are shots being taken from 20 feet in that are not dunks. It's a shame that people growing up today will never know real basketball at all. And that they will bad mouth those who played it in an era where scoring was higher without any 3 point shots involved.
Today, there is way too much dunking the basketball, and way too much reliance on the 3 point shot. Back in the 1960’s, there were maybe 2-3 dunks per game. Now, there are maybe 12-15 dunks per game. I say: Raise the rim to 12.5 feet. Make the dunk a much more difficult shot.
What great footage! Would love to see entire game to really get context of the times. But it is noticeable how these guys athleticism has been vastly underrated. Great athletes, great players here and everyone played with passion and the crowd is electric.
This is why you don't make any judgment about players using highlights. If you just watched these highlights and nothing else, you would think the Warriors blew them out, but the truth is the 76ers beat the Warriors 4-2. This was the season Wilt led the NBA in rebounds and assists, a feat I don't think has ever been done by anyone else.
