The rule changes allowed players to do more. You have to take todays player and put them back in time and see how they would do with the rules that Wilt had to play with. Humans have remained the same in 100 years and if you could see evolution work in such a short timeframe you wouldn't have people claiming it isn't proven today. No, even a thousand years ago we were basically undistinguishable, put a person from today in that era and develops the same way and the only difference is immunity and tolerance to some diseases, but in regards to how fast and athletic they are there won't be a noticeable difference. Tarmac, nutrition, training regimes, equipement, medicine, transportation, that's what's made the difference, so Javal traveling coach and wearing Converse wouldn't be any better at the game than Russell or Wilt.

I saw Wilt play in a preseason double-header in Seattle in the late 1960s when he was beyond hid prime. After playing in the first game he came sat in the stands to watch the second game. I was among several kids who swarmed him to get his autograph. He kindly and patiently signed autographs for everyone. I will never forget the moment. Bless you Mr. Chamberlin.

I started watching NBA about 1970(we finally got a TV....hehe), he was so big, and just dominated at times, so self assured, I was in awe. One Sunday afternoon, after church, the Lakers were playing the Bulls....Wilt was going against Tom Borwinkle a big 7 footer. at one point they were fighting for a rebound along the baseline, Borwinkle was banging against Wilt and Wilt gave him a shove with his forearm as he(Wilt) grabbed the ball... no lie, Borwinkle literally flew into the seats. The announcer was astounded... They showed it in slo mo.... smack. Ole Tom literally lifts off the floor and crashes into the seats.... I think he had to go sit down on the bench after he got up.... Point is... Wilt was really strong. and go watch Wilt in the 72 semi finals game 6 against Jabbar in the 4th Q. Wow! Wilt just dominated Jabbar. So many stories I could tell.... Artis Gilmore was a Wilt look a like, 7'2" and just as big(weight), ok...he was black too. hehe Wilt just knocks him around in that All Star NBA/ABA game... and then you realize WIlt hardly ever used his massive frame and strength to push his way in like Shaq always did... Wilts game was finesse and quickness and leaping ability.... and even leading fast breaks in the early years!! Ok... nuff said!

My grandpa played in a pickup game with Wilt at a resort in upstate New York in the Summer of 1958. He was 20 and Wilt was just going into his rookie year with the globetrotters. My grandpa is only 5'7" and managed to fake Wilt away with a pump fake and hit a jumper on him. According to him, Wilt looks at him and goes, "Nuh-uh." After that point, nobody but Wilt scored again for the whole game and his team won easily😂 My grandpa got a picture with him though, and has it to this day🧡

There was an exhibition game(older players usually don’t care much about them while younger players do) in which a rookie started trash talking Micheal Jordan right at the end of the first half. Micheal then went on to score 40 points in the second half when the rookie scored 0.

Yeah, he was mobbed by the defense when they did manage to get to him in time, so he developed other shots other than the dunk. If one is even a casual b-ball fan, they should at least once in their lifetimes take a $15 basketball from Wal-Mart or Dick's Sporting Goods and go to their local park that has b-ball courts. Try hitting these shots -- even basic free throws. It's difficult. Plus chasing rebounds, running the court, dribbling, passing and receiving passes, etc.. He would dominate Shaq whether in the old era or the modern era.

Yes, I'm in disbelief looking at how agile and fluid he was in this video at that size. Smh I would have loved to see him playing in the modern era from the Michael Jordan era going up against Shaquille Oneal up to this modern era today with him going up against Embiid.
The great Bill Russell said that Wilt was the most physically imposing man he ever saw, but I believe that Shaq was a incredible physical specimen in his prime. But I don't think Shaq was as agile and fluid at moving and running the court like Wilt was, but the big Aristotle could move for his size. Lol Wilt looked like the better passer also.

Well he was over 7 ft and had a ton of muscle, so it really doesn't surprise me so much. I mean he was solid. His overall athleticism is insane though, and he's definitely one of the GOATS. I'm just not surprised what he could do when considering his weight and height. Overall though he was a beast.
I can see why he has the most points in a game. Those bank shots allowed him to basically shoot from any angle, plus his height and fade away it seems like it would be unstoppable even in todays game. Tim Duncan has been consistent with using he back board throughout his career, imagine Wilt.

My favorite big man, there are some great clips of him from 60-66 that everyone who thinks they know what a big man can do - was done by Wilt. Most people think of Wilt as a Laker past his prime. The heavy workload he took on in Philadelphia his first 8-9 years took a tremendous toll on his body, especially his knees.

Also, the dribbling rules were a lot more strict (couldn't even really put your hand on the side of the ball) and offensive fouls were called way more often. Otherwise, Wilt would basically be allowed to body everyone like Shaq did in the low-post.

I think Wilt's biggest adjustment to today's game would have been guarding players out to the 3 line. However, Wilt was very mobile for most of his career and could have guarded players out to the 3 point line well. Of course, Wilt would've been able to guard a few steps in from of the 3 because of his quickness and jumping ability. Back in the day Wilt would let players shoot while playing off them then get way up and swat the shot. That's part of the reason Wilt blocked so many shots and never fouled out!

I would love to see Wilt play one on one against the centers of today. They would have a problem dealing his leaping ability, quickness, wingspan, all of which would lead him to blocking many of their shots. Wilt had a great fadeaway jumpshot that i don't believe they could stop. The only center that would ever had a chance was Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
