That's a good thing for some. Not so good for others. Scott Martin gave away one of my sight fishing tricks I've been doing for years and years. The alka seltzer in soft plastic trick on a bed fish. Oh well
I do good with spoons year round on st. Clair, but I'm glad we all have two very different top of their field experts to give advice. My fishing style is literally a mix between the two of you and getting advice from both makes these videos even more of a powerful learning tool.
I have not said this in awhile but thanks for all you guys do. I love learning the different techniques that you two put out weekly . The way you guys break it down from baits, equipment,to technique really covers all aspects . The onky thing that would help more is to actually fish side by side with you 😆. Just apreciate all you guys do for the angkers around the country this particular one greatly appreciates all you do . I fish a really deep clear body of water and have no issue locating the schools in about usually 50 foot but seem to suspend about 25-35ft and I cant get them to eat anything . Will definatley giving these 2 options a try.
Like how you two compliment each other’s experience. Each one of you have a specialty. Plus, you all can finish each others sentences 🤣👍. Killer information again you two 👍🎣
Only reason I spent half a paycheck on spoons was because of tactical bassin, lmao. Thats what I told my wife too, babe, Matt and Tim said these flutter spoons and jigging spoons were legit to catch those suspended fish!!!!!!! You know I need all the help I can get on those suspended summer time bass!!!! Ohhhhh come on babe unpack your suitcase and calm down, come on now, its just 437.89 cents babe!!!!!!!! What your leaving??? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! DON'T LEAVE!!!!!! jk guys. But she's rolled them eyes at me more then a damn few times. But if that's all I get is an eye roll, I would have to say I'm a pretty damn lucky man!!!!!
I’m always amazed how professional anglers can just handle treble hooks with almost zero regard for just how sharp these treble hooks are and not get hooked!
One video I would love to see by you guys is how to fish a pond? Like local subdivision ponds. I would love your guys take on it. I personally dont need it but would help alot of people I'm sure. Northern illinois here. Love the vids!
Frank240jz I’m northern Illinois too. I tend to hook a lot of bass in ponds and smaller lakes with soft plastics and top waters. Spinners and buzz baits work good too. I use spoons for deeper water and rivers which work great, especially for Northerns.
@@anielleogiustino6297 I usually use a big jig with a big trailer, swimbaits, crankbaits, spinners and some texas rigged creature baits.. I usually go everyday if its nice. Caught 8 smallies a 4lb, 3lb and a bunch of 2.5s largies this weekend. Weathers been nice just wet
Just wanted to let you know broke my pb with a 8pd PA largemouth on a glide bait...threw some this weekend because of your s waver video...keep up the great vids
What's up Matt and Tim. Hope all is well guys. Thanks for pumping out the videos! You guys are killing it and the go too channel on UA-cam for bass fishing tips.
By far the most informative videos on the internet. When I want to learn the nuances to a technique that I'm not that good at I turn to your videos for tips. Keep up the great work.
LV500 works great vertical jigging too, and gets down fast :) I know you guys have talked about it, just a heads up for someone who reads this and hasn't tried it yet
Appreciate all ur tips, tricks, and reviews. On them throwing the hook...I’ve tried is using 50-80 lbs braid rather than a split ring from lure to hook which I think takes away leverage for them throwing the hook. It works good on my bigger glide baits as well.
I'm new to bas fishing with my husband who has been doing it for years but never flutter fishing. Very excited to try this out this weekend. The fall transition is on and have a tournament coming up and hope this is the key we've been looking for! Really enjoy your videos.
Something I've never done much. Bought 6 or 7 spoons the other day to add to my box. Got em rigged up with swivels and a stinger hook. Those Gamakatsu stinger hooks work awesome for that. You can add it to the swivel or the split ring.
Great video. Tons of info, as always. I've always been interested in trying spoons but never really knew enough to give them a try. After watching this I think I'll give it a go. Thanks Matt & Tim!
Great video guys, really appreciate the options during this time of year. An extra thank you for the mention of returning fish to water quickly. Yesterday I was at the State Park boat launch in Kelseyville and watched three boats taking out after yesterday’s tournament. Unfortunately, one boat was releasing from live well and dropping fish on fiberglass surface at back of boat “bouncing” into water. They left left 2 “live floaters” in the 4-5 lb range swimming on their sides trying to get deep, it was sad. Dang I would have loved to hook one of those fish, to bad they will be dead before I get a chance. Too bad the tournament officials did not bother to witness “safe release”. Since we are headed to “deeper water” this time of year, maybe a video on fish handling, fizzing and live well care would be helpful. I don’t tournament fish, but I would like the chance to catch some of the fish people kill by not handling properly. Thanks again for all the info.
Great video gentlemen! I have a couple of spoons that mysteriously found their way into my tackle... I'm sure we've all had that happen a time or two heheh I've always discounted them, mainly bc i knew nothing about how, when or where to use em. You've got me itching to go tie one on right now, even though i wont be able to hit the water for several more days. Thanks for giving me something to add to the arsenal!
Threw my first flutter spoon ever on Thursday. Had caught30 out of the school and then the biggest two came on the first two cast with the spoon, now I'm a believer just wish you weren't showing these videos haha
Very awesome video thank you guys I'm legit Lee going to make a video on your guys's tips on my next video on whiskeytown lake in Redding California thank y'all 💯👍👊👊
Definitely a technique I do not have experience or confidence with. Does water clarity matter much? I have 2 lakes by me one is crystal Clear the other is 1-2 ft.
Amazing video as always, keep it up. I have to ask have either of you guys ever played with a Daiwa Aird X spinning or casting rod? They are on Tacklewarehouses best seller and everyone seems to enjoy them. Just wondering if you have ever got your hands on one and I would like to hear what you guys have to say.
Tim I've been trying to learn everything about flutter spoons,(tend to watch the old video over and over to see what I've missed), dont know if you do this but recently I've found that the flutter spoon works great around top water. Throwing it out and let it drop a little and then burn it and kill it ....and repeat. I'm sure you have tried it but what are your thoughts? Also thank you guys again for the videos and especially this video. I know you guys are good because before I can even ask the question.....latest video pops up.
I’m liking the more technique focused guides. I love your guys guides but sometimes they don’t focus enough on the actual mechanics of how to do the fishing or sorta where on the lake to do it. This video covers that a little more and it’s great
I've been saying I was going to finally pick up some spoons and give this technique a try. My question is, is it worth trying to work a jigging spoon from a kayak? My transducer is mounted off the side of my yak, pretty much right in front in front of my seat so being able to see my bait on my screen seems unlikely and that I would be fishing it blind. Love the videos, will definitely be picking up a few of those flutter spoons for sure!
If your gonna be using your electronics to drop down on fish you see on your screen, then a jigging spoon would work better for you. Alot better. They don't sway back and forth like a flutter spoon. Which means the jigging spoon will stay in your transducer cone, and pretty much come up and go back down within inches of where it was. Flutter spoon will go left then right then back and forth going down, and when you pick up on it it will pretty much come straight back up, but it could end up in a spot 2 or 3 feet from where it was originally. And that could be in screen on the pump, then off screen on the fall on your kayak. I could be dead wrong but I think this may help you. Matt is a big fan of the Duh spoon I think it is. Vertical jigging spoon is what that is. Hopefully this helps a little man. If you've got it dialed in in the last year since you made this comment then let us know how it went and your system. I think we'd all like to hear your stories. Me personally i hate fishing flutter spoons. Ive had success with the smaller vertical jigging spoons, like 3 inches or less. But that's mainly due to average size of our bait on lakes I fish. We have big giant blue back herring and huge huge gizzard shad and I've got the huge giant flutter spoons yo immitate those bait fish but don't have any luck with them. I know the spool on my reel will take off wide open then all but stop, then take back off again then all but stop. You can easily tell when its going away from you, hence the taking off, then the falling back towards you kind of the all but stopping the spool. But I know there's a time and place for them, and I throw them, normally wind up catching stripers in my lake on spoons lol.
Matt, Do you see any advantages of replacing the treble hook on a jigging spoon with a spinner bait stinger hook or a stinger like Tim uses on a flutter spoon?
I have a question, a lot of setups you guys recommend in this and previous videos you use flouro or mono leader or line, do you have issues with pike biting your line? I've lost quite a bit of tackle while fishing for bass due to pike biting through my leader/non-braid line.
Serious Q. guys, Can you please tell me the effectiveness of the Rapala Spoons, they are constructed differently. Thanks. I think I just used them in the wrong season or it was just a bad day for spoons.
I started bass fishing and began sorting my Late Father in Laws tackle and found some lare flat spoons marked Nebco Flash bait 66 2 silver and 2 red/white. They are about the size of my palm with old treble hooks on both ends. Can I use these on Bass?
What size hooks do you like to use on both the casting flutter spoons and also the vertical jigging spoons?? You gave the owner style but ,not the size?
not huge confidence in spoon fishing i can count the number of fish ive caught on a flutter spoon and that is 1 lol granted it was a 13lb flathead. maybe some of these tips will help me out thanks for the info
The spoon as a lower very few people use I have used it all my life a fishing from taxes all the way up to North Dakota it is definitely a lower a person should always have in their tackle Box for kitchen small bass to 10 pound small mouth bass
Hey guys huge fan here, I have found a budget friendly finesse rod your guys should check out. St Croix makes a series of rods cal the eyecon that is designed for walleye fishing, I just picked up the 7’6” medium light extra fast model for $130 and I don’t know if there is a better finesse rod for under 200. It’s hard to find a medium light for over 7’ for this price range but this model fits it perfectly. I have thrown hair jigs, tubes, and drop shots so far on it and it handled a 4lbs smallies with ease. It’s not on tackle warehouse because it’s technically not designed for bass but please take a look at this rod, I think it would make a good addition to your upcoming buyers guide or finesse video. Thanks, huge fan
I've caught 100s of bass on nothing more than a Seine weight and treble hook. As you say a clothes hanger is involved in the process. Run the hanger thru the weight and flatten the weight with a hammer. Pull out the hanger (it's only used for the tool) run your line thru the hole left from the hanger and tie on your hook. Cheap spoon and they can't get leverage to throw it becuz it slides up the line. I had to have a jury trial against a game warden becuz he claimed I was snagging which it's not. I catch every fish in the mouth and he saw that I was. It's just a cheaper jigging spoon. I won the jury trail defending myself. His lawyer said its against the law to jerk a fishing rod because I was vertical jigging straight down. I said how do you set the hook? I also took a snagging tiger into court and showed the jury what it was. Should've brought Mike Long with me to demonstrate but that was long before he was caught. Not all game wardens are as cool as Tim. My grandfather owned a bait shop and one of his closest friends was a warden. He always ate lunch with us and once their bait shop was robbed while they were on fishing vacation. Carl found the guy who stole their stuff. He told grandpa he would do his best to find them. The guy had bags full of grandpas stuff fishing on the bank
James Barron I didn’t mean anything bad by my comment you know those guys are good and technique is everything and I don’t have it oh and I like your stories 👍🏻
@@tland498 I knew you wasn't saying something bad. I was just saying it doesn't take expensive gear to catch fish. I'm an ex fishing guide and was guiding when the warden claimed I was illegally fishing. I don't fish illegally. He wouldn't even listen to my side of the story. I told him to sit here and watch me catch them. I'll catch every fish in the mouth I told him. I was catching sandbass one after another and releasing them all. I'd probably caught about 40 already. He said I'm not going to set here and watch you break the law. I'm glad he's not our warden anymore. Man knew nothing about fishing. My home lakes full of timber and I can hang these up and not spend a fortune in spoons. Plus they knock free easier because they slide up and down the line like a plug knocker. You don't even have to paint them. Take a pocketknife or sandpaper and scrape the lead until it shines like a shad
Hey, I got a Shimano SLX and the retrieve is really gritty feeling. Get uncomfortable on my fingers really quick. That normal for this reel??? I’ve used less expensive ones that were smooth as butter
With all these lure i think your getting your fans all confuse on what lure to use from topwater jigs crankbaits to spoons. Some of these lure recommend i have never caught a bass on it idk if the fish doesn't want it or what
“When we’re spooning!” Haha love it. Gotta say y’all are my favorite tutors!

Thanks awesome information. Check out the Shimano flat fall it’s a saltwater bait but it works well on bass to.
Shimano flat fall is the truth. 🤙

Matt, what would cause you to search for bass in extreme depths such as greater than 40 feet?
What do you do on a deep spoon bite in a tournament to not kill the fish
So wouldn't twitching a fluke rig be just as effective? Or is that more of a finesse tactic compared to fishing the spoon if they dont want it?
Matt,
Do you see any advantages of replacing the treble hook on a jigging spoon with a spinner bait stinger hook or a stinger like Tim uses on a flutter spoon?
Good info
Would you put a stinger hook on a jigging spoon? Same as the flutter to help hook to land ratio?
What do you guys thing of the live scope ?? Could you give some info a bout the live scope are they worth the money??
I have a question, a lot of setups you guys recommend in this and previous videos you use flouro or mono leader or line, do you have issues with pike biting your line? I've lost quite a bit of tackle while fishing for bass due to pike biting through my leader/non-braid line.
Yes it's a huge problem for us when we travel outside of California but they still fish braid to mono leaders most of the time

Lol Tim and Matt spoon together
if you are catching them deep would you think venting them to release that gas would help and how deep should you start to vent them
If you release them immediately you won't have to!
Nice, now I know how to use more effectively my spoons!
Like the catfish trophy video, go hunt some lunkers!

I just love your humor. Keep it up 👍
If I want to drop it to suspended fish. How do I know when I am right above fish. Hummin bird doesn't seem to pick up lure drop. Any ideas
Some of these lure recommend i have never caught a bass on it idk if the fish doesn't want it or what
When you guys are spooning who is the big spoon?
what kind of places or type of structure do you target in late fall with spoons?
Python Darter is a pretty sweet spoon
Casting around a 5” lake fork Flutter spoon is definitely my best confidence bait for better class fish in summer, big smallies even eat it too!
have either of you tried the new sufix advance fluoro? does it stack up to the sunline assassin fluoro?
@tacticalbassin, why no spectra for the spoons?
when do you change to the blade bait?
Is there a certain depth that cause fish to need fizzed?
Tackle warehouse is mostly out of them can't find it anywhere
