I appreciate the comment. The issue with slipcovers is that they usually look sloppy and like a slip cover. They don't look permanent. If you love grandma's silver then use it!
Like fashion, interior trends change and date quickly. In a year or two charity shops will be filled with Tom Ford books and the latest must have arty trinkets. Personally I find the most stylish interiors seem to be those where there’s a blend between traditional and modern, and curated pieces that mean something and bring you joy.
I feel like the “art” in a home is an important element. It really shows the character of the home. I shop secondhand and antique stores for original etchings and artwork that I love.
The silver that is coming back in is more simple and modern than what we've traditionally seen. The ornate pieces aren't coming back into mainstream design anytime soon.
@@HouseofValentinaI was actually referring to silver as a metal color like you stated in the video and not grandma's ornate silver bowl, etc. However, I do think in the right application, grandma's silver bowl can look stunning. Combined with a more modern setting in the right way, it can add a richness and soul that you can't get from all new pieces. It's all about the look you are going for I guess. Thanks for the video!
To be honest, I feel like your home could stand to use some of “grandma’s old silver” to counteract how heavily “retail” your home looks. It’s lovely, but lacks soulfulness due to how perfect it is. Many luxury designers seem to encourage balancing vintage and contemporary to give a home character. I understand it may not be your style, but I actually don’t think it would be out of place to offset all that modernity with something antique and “imperfect.”
I do love a $10,000 silver bowl that is beautiful if in the right space. Classic beauty is always in and adds interest. I do love a nice bowl and vase but a one of a kind can be special...As for me, I'll put the vase away and showcase the sterling silver! Thank you as always for sharing your lovely home! You have given me so many fabulous ideas and saved me $!!!
I agree with you IF the person wants a modern place as their design. However, many people have a different style that they love and several of those things like a key piece of silver would look perfect for them.
When I was really broke I was the most creative. Regardless of income, my home was always important to me and I made it as beautiful as possible. I kept it clean and decluttered and be it ever so humble, I was always grateful to have a home. Thanks for the videos, always well done, informative and fun!❤
Thanks for sharing! It's amazing the things we learn when we have little to work with. We were the same way, even when we had little we keep it organized, clean and orderly and it's made all of the difference throughout our life.
There are a few ornate (tarnished) Victorian silver pieces here, along with cool midcentury bronze ones. They remind me that styles change - and will change again. No mass produced decor recently made in China for me.
I like mixing antiques with modern furniture and decor. I feel like my old book cabinet looks good in my otherwise modern living room. I like to decorate with items that are meaningful to me, like my grandmas old wooden elephant, bought in Marocco in the 60's. I have an old paining of a sailship. Beautiful frame. What is fun with decor is that not one home is the same. We collect things that has meaning to us, and we like to display. That being said, I go for clean lines and light colors when it comes to my furniture. I would not buy the boucle fabric on anything. I think those will age quickly. 😊
Valentina , You have really single handedly taught the entire how to live in Luxury regardless of finances. I have always said that I would decorate even if my Home were a Cardboard Box. Well You have taught the world to turn a cardboard box into a mansion with perfect taste !!!❤😊❤😊❤
I think tarnished silver is easier to decorate with than polished silver, but I'm more partial to bronze. I'd rather see a velvet chair or couch than a pleather one. I like to decorate with wood pieces and usually have luck finding great items at the thrift store. That is how tight my budget is. I would enjoy watching you do a thrifting or garage sale video every once in a while. Wayfair and HomeGoods are often out of budget for me. I'm trying to do my best to find thrift pieces inspired by higher end creators.
I think it is unrealistic to think you can achieve this style thrifting tbh....it does require a certain budget...embracing a different style like maximalism might work better for thrifting??

interesting video…but i have to disagree with your perspective on “grandmas silverware” and the bust. I understand what you were trying to communicate but I believe certain silverware and busts can totally elevate a space if curated effectively. Still a good video!
I was in the military for 20 years. I have 2 shelves with decor that reminds me from each place. No, I will not put them away. Our homes should make us happy and pieces should mean something to us. Styles change and I will never put pieces in my house just because it’s in style.
this channel is geared to a more modernist style for which silver does not really fit that well. It would fit it well with a more eclectic or maximalist style though. If you do not like modern art then you may not like this style imho.
I still have a slipcover sectional we purchased from RH probably 18/19 years ago. Because it was such high quality it’s still hanging in there. We just use it in a room the kids hang out in. When you look at it you cant even tell each cushion cover can be taken off and the main base cover fits so tightly on the heavy solid wood frame there’s not a single wrinkle or loose fabric around the arms or anywhere for, that matter. It’s even a soft white ivory color. The material is a thick almost like a denim fabric. So durable and washed fantastically. It has been such a great couch. Cant afford RH prices anymore sadly. They’ve just gotten way too high.
I’m looking forward to get my PB York square armed slip cover sofa. I like the contemporary style mixed with coastal (as I live in the coast).. so not everything has to be so modern per se. do whatever makes you happy!
I am learning, now that my children are grown and gone from the family home, that I want to elevate the look and feel of my home. I'm slowly changing out photos and art for more abstract, calming pieces, and I'm moving back to a color scheme that I loved in my late 20s -- black and white with gray in there too. In decorating and painting my bathroom, after 25 years of builder white, I am delighted to find renewed interest in my mom's crystal pieces... yes, as holders of items one uses in a bathroom. Even the butter dish base made a great place for my electric toothbrush and glass to rinse with. Who would have ever dreamed I'd find a way to use this stuff?!! The space is looking better every day, and I get a kick out of seeing my mom's crystal repurposed in a bathroom. As always, your videos make me want to make my home peaceful and welcoming in a way that is thoughtful too. Thanks.
I copied your living room look for my bedroom and it looks awesome! ❤ paint goes a long way 😅 now it looks very sophisticated, but cozy...i added vases, candles and my favorite abstract painting of ballerina as a black swan ❤ perfection 👌 thank you for giving me inspiration 😊
Boucle anything gets filthy fast, especially if you have pets even with cleaning you can never get it back to when you first receive it, it ends up looking like a dirty mop head. Also slipcovered sofas are still in, people with kids and pets have to be realistic. You can still buy white, but being able to pop the covers in the washer is a dream come true. Jamie Young sculptural items are nice, but the pricing is ridiculous. Think outside the box and get a similar sculptural lamp or vase at homegoods and paint it, you'd be surprised at how much money you can save and get a similar look for less. I bought a lamp that had an ugly gold base, painted it black and it looks like a jamie young dupe.
Busts are really having a moment. I recently found a Beethoven one made out of marble on my trip to Italy. As a lover of classical music this was perfect for me. Plus, I can use it for Halloween as well for a more elevated style.
I’ve been watching your channel for years and for you to say that you order from Wayfair all the time and almost every day… 🤔 Why is this the first time I’ve heard you talk about Wayfair? Is it because they are your video sponsor this time?
No idea honestly. I've used them for years and they've gotten better as well. For a while their search capabilities were pretty rough on their site but it has gotten much better over the last year so I've started using them again.
I do appreciate the sofa discussion . I am in the market to buy the right 1 . Doing my homework for a long time. I want moden timeless. I have been following you fore a long time ,sins then made changes just painting slowly changing everything. Guess what I do not get tired of the changes I make.i feel so settled in the changes. Valentina, I grew up in an art deco motif and found to be open to all styles, because we all come from difference walks of life. I appreciate your enthusiasm and feel you guide and help us think about the options to us out there.
I just find that this kind of deco does not have character... looks like a decoration shop... an uniform. I feel that it is cozy and nice to add special objects with different styles.
Helpful advice, Valentina…as usual! Thank you! Also, I’ve been going through your videos looking for design advice for a beautiful coffee bar… I remember you had a gorgeous one on your bar cart for Christmas time… do you have any recommendations for an every day coffee/tea nook? We entertain quite a bit and have just moved to a new home… implementing your advice every where! Want to put together a gorgeous classy coffee/tea area!!
@@HouseofValentinathe large white pieces. I do get it, it gives that certain impression. But to me it’s empty. I need meaningful, high quality things around me. Dream house look or not.
If you are decorating very traditional I think grandmas bowl would work. I think it all depends on the overall look you are going for. Big pieces do make a greater impact in any style you choose.
@@kitw76Big pieces yes. I don’t think it has to be traditional to use Grandmas silver. I have a very eclectic mix of things, all of which are important to me, and that I love. But yes, that dream house effect is the subject. So I do understand it.
@@xxfox I think this is channel is about a more modernist style for which silver does not really fit in well. But there are other sophisticaed styles such as well curated maximalism that silver would fit in to. Personally I do not follow V's advice to a t, but I still learn things. I also do not find the sculptural pieces empty...someone designed them...just because they are mass produced does not necessarily mean they are low quality.
I love slipcovers (but track arms, please). I also furnish a vacation rental and want to be able to wash, 3/4 dry and replace them from time to time in the space of a few hours, and slipcovers let you clean the whole thing, not just spot clean. I sure don't have time to go over the whole thing with my Green Machine (have had for ages, love it).
I personally believe that you cant find art, it finds you. Buy art because you love it not to fit a space. And bowls of fake moss don’t bring a dream look to your home - quite the opposite 😁😁, but I agree with these for the most part.
I’m sorry Valentina, I love you, but there are so many things I disagree with. Your home is lovely but it’s not the only decor style that’s chic. Nate Berkus is a huge fan of antique silver. Leanne Ford still sells slip covered sofas and Anthena Calderone has them in her home. And Nate and Jerimiah scour the globe for vintage mid century furniture. I’m sorry but these judgmental videos are never my favorite.
I think a home is beautiful when it’s carefully designed with both old and new there has to be a balance. I love my antiques and my heirloom pieces especially my mother’s wedding china and silverware. In my opinion your home although quite nice is looking more and more like a modern store display I’m finding very little personality in it I know this is your own style but it’s not everyone’s.
My style is not exactly like Valentina's. Still, seeing her decor and hearing her advice help me with my own home. Thank you for being honest with us, Valentina, your home is beautiful!!
I bought a vintage chair that was already recovered in boucle (off-white, of course). I liked the fabric and kept it, but I totally agree with you about boucle. It's been so overdone that it's already starting to look dated.
I agree. I refuse to buy it. Give it another year and she’ll replace hers . And this is the thing people forget, she seldom has to BUY anything. She is given things because she sells them to us!. If we could get free accessories and chairs then we could change everything as our mood and trends dictate. Personally I like mixing modern with antique. The sculptural pieces in her home are in today and gone tomorrow and have no real value. They’re pretty but I think I’d tire of them quickly. But silver, if nothing else and you don’t like it any more you can always have it melted down for cash. Can’t do that with pottery pieces from Wayfair 😂
The Collected over time look, with items special / meaningful to the people living there, the spaces clean and tidy, but a book, currently being read is on a side table with a cozy blanket on a chair or couch, is my favorite. The pristine look of a home , with almost everything in it brand new, just lacks warmth to me... just looks cold and flat- like a show room or catalogue page. I get why people don't show their family photos publicly but" family" photos show and add personality to a home. I also absolutely love children's art work and if possible - the child's art work in a frame and on a shelf or hung on the wall! That "decoration use only" bowl- stuffed with plastic bags and moss? 😂No thanks!!
Any chance you'll create a program on lux decorating for a rental apartment. We moved from a home we loved into an apartment to be closer to our children. I struggling to create a look I love. This is a short term, maybe two years, living arrangement.
I live in a rental and have been using Valentina's tips for years, especially the Amazon finds since they are low threshold to attain for most. Best of luck and ENJOY!
Most of Valentina's videos are about furniture, rugs and decor items that can be done by anyone. Just stick with basic furniture and decor items until you have your own place.
Well it had to happen eventually. I disagree with many of these. 😮. Your home should reflect you. For me, I’m an equestrian. I love my horse art. Many are professional shots of my own horses. I try not to overwhelm the house bc it can be too themed. I also have two very large Blue Heron pieces. These receive the most compliments of anything in my home (both in person and online) Lastly, silver is never out. Personally, a bunch of abstract art would be out of place in my home. I have a few pieces but very few.
🤭I bought that pastel horse art (w/frame) for $150. The whole ride home I thought-cute..but not my decor. It’s been in the closet for 3/4 yrs now Awesome tips! Thanks, V ! ❤
The moss covers the plastic bags so no need to dust those. Wipe over outside of bowl and inside part exposed. Remove moss pieces occasionally and shake out.
My house is looking just like yours Miss Valentina, I got rid of my small vase and decor item and start buying sculptural big pieces, I like the outcome better it’s looking more minimalist and clean .
I have a question ~ So in one of those example photos I saw a piece of art propped up behind a couch. I didn't know that was a thing, but it makes so much sense and would be perfect for someone like me - who recently had the wall painted and who hates nail holes! I had so many nail holes because I kept changing art... Does it look good in person, or does it just look like someone is waiting to hang their art? 😀
Valentina, Please use your two Mahogany, hand carved sculptures, from your recent trip. Maybe: on a shelf, in a cabinet or on a table. Maybe: a mood board or how to decorate a room featuring the two Mahogany sculptures. I'd rather watch a video featuring something meaningful to you -instead of a Wayfair Ad for mass produced items.
Who cares whether silver is in or not. I have always only used silver whether it is white gold or platinum in my Jewellery or door handles or knobs or taps and light fittings Or grandmas silver Yup I am a grandma and any piece of my silver is worth more than one piece of whatever you use way more.
I used to offer to dust as a teenager to “accidentally “ break my mum’s porcelain doll that kept looking at me! 🤣Memories of my granny are better than any silver. 💗
My mom was mad at me (when I was a little girl)for using a knife on the throat of her beloved Mexican lady bust. I dreamt that it was chasing me and trying to bite me. I had to get it before it got me. 🤣😂
This is a fine video if you want to copy or want to be inspired directly by V's aesthetic. But the thing is, taste and good design can encompass an endless variety of executions. This video does little to distill the principles of good taste and design over all these endless varieties. Instead, it offers a few ideas to get to Valentina's home style. Here's an example of a home that is GORGEOUS and probably delights in showcasing grandma's heirlooms and mohair (?) velvet seating and colorful artwork. ua-cam.com/users/shortsVrHIE59WEzs?feature=shared PS: the Bissell is fine on durable fabrics that can tolerate water and water soluble cleaning agents. But have you noticed how many sofas either don't mention how to clean it, or say "blot with dry clean cloth"? Yeah, that's a warning sign. :)
Exactly! I'm glad someone finally said this. I watched the video in the link, and that house is beautifully put together. Homeworthy is a great channel for experiencing different design styles; and though some of the decor featured may not be my personal taste, I can still appreciate the creativity and design that went in to putting the space together.
I've been enjoying your content for a few years now but, respectfully, your videos seem to be just one big commercial now. Everything is about getting those affiliate links. I understand that this is a job/income, but you used to show design projects you worked on for clients from time to time. I'd love to see more of that again! Or videos about decorating with what you already own/ "shop you space". You've shown a LOT of vases, marble links, decorate bowls, etc. over that past years. No one needs this many vases or sculptures.
Thanks for the feedback. I actually have a design project going live today on the channel. We have a few more in process as well that will be filmed as well. Most clients don't want their home featured for privacy reasons. It's also difficult for me to totally redecorate my own home every week. I show all of the products that's what people are asking for, it makes design practical and applicable.
Hmm...when you mentioned not decorating with busts anymore it immediately made me think of the black bust of a lady you once owned. I usually dont like them for the reasons you stated but I thought she was beautiful and unique. I guess you probably donated her at this point as your style has evolved away from the parisian vibe; but if not she should be the exception to the rule. LOL.
Don’t like it don’t you do it. Not the hard of a concept.. almost 400K ppl wanna hear what HOV is saying.. you can start your own channel and go there with your personal opinions …
I don't understand why you seem to be personally offended. Valentina is offering her opinions on interior design, so it is to be expected that people will respond and that some will not agree with her. Since the comments section is not turned off, I assume Valentina is ok with that.

Ah I have a couch that's a 3 seater that I.just bought a couple of years ago. I like it but Valentina I know what you mean. And having grown up in a Greek immigrant family I have so much sentimental decor, but so out of date.
The art in your home is so Home Goods. If you bought authentic work it would elevate your home. Maybe an art school graduate exhibit as a starter. The work on your walls is bad….not authentic and it shows.
I feel like her most recent house tour has so much generic art. She’s moved her dramatic, elevated pieces around, they’re still there but I feel like there shouldn’t be any more additions of home goods-looking canvas or “generic” black and whites, I think interesting painting and loud Luxury photographs would spice her home up in the perfect way
If you don’t like her artwork, don’t buy it and no need to announce it. She’s putting her ideas out there and they’ll be picked up by those who like it. You can really stop being rude now.
People might not like busts, but why are people still buying gnomes? I can’t stand them and not in the garden either. All the seasonal gnomes at HomeGoods make me 🤮. Anyone else agree?
@@kzkrazy2278 we all have our likes and dislikes. We wouldn’t want to be all the same. I just don’t like gnomes, but only second to my dislike of clowns. They both give me nightmares

They are keeping the "V" names, as this side is all "J"❤ Thanks to timeless baby furniture purchases 10 years ago, it is still beautiful today! I can't imagine making that purchase in 2024! I do have a question. I am moving out of my minimalist mindset and suddenly need more furniture in my living room. My furniture is centered in the room with our fireplace on wall and tv on another. How does one fill the perimeter without it being all tables?

I have been following you fore a long time ,sins then made changes just painting slowly changing everything. Guess what I do not get tired of the changes I make.i feel so settled in the changes. Thank you so
Valentina, I grew up in an art deco motif and found to be open to all styles, because we all come from difference walks of life. I appreciate your enthusiasm and feel you guide and help us think about the options to us out there.
Thanks for sharing!!
Grandmas silver is so much better than those big, generic looking pieces.
I'm not sure what your comparison is about. What generic looking pieces are you referring to?
This is really good. It gave me a perception of what to look for to mimic a higher-end art decor.
I personally believe that you cant find art, it finds you. Buy art because you love it not to fit a space. And bowls of fake moss don’t bring a dream look to your home - quite the opposite 😁😁, but I agree with these for the most part.
I love Wayfair!!! Thanks for the tips Valentina.
You're so welcome!
Thank you for giving tips on how to have a modern home!
I so agree with you.
Really judgemental I see alot of these judgy videos with interiors designers and it's kinda old
I agree
Totally agree!
I love love the white lamp behind you !!
I completely disagree with your opinion on silver. Hotel silver, in my opinion is chic, timeless, and elegant.
My style is not exactly like Valentina's. Still, seeing her decor and hearing her advice help me with my own home. Thank you for being honest with us, Valentina, your home is beautiful!!
lol ! The busts reminds me of haunted mansion at Disneyland, they follow you around .
I feel that Boucle is one of those fabrics that will look dated eventually. Every time I see something in this fabric, I stop myself of buying.
The boucle chair linked is from All Modern and $799, do you have the link the for the Wayfair Safavieh chair you opened?
I like the busts that you see on RH.
Those are definitely beautiful!
I don't think recommending boucle couches is a good idea. That's an expensive item that is definitely trending out.
It’s been in the closet for 3/4 yrs now
Awesome tips! Thanks, V ! ❤
An 800.00 Meteor Bowl full of plastic bags and dried moss...how do you even dust that?
The moss covers the plastic bags so no need to dust those. Wipe over outside of bowl and inside part exposed. Remove moss pieces occasionally and shake out.
@@bEverCurious I like that for you. I have other things to spend my time on.
@@troutcreek121 You asked a question, I answered.
We just dust the outside of the bowl. We never remove any of it.
@@bEverCuriousYes, positive, nice and helpful answer, too!🎉
I do use a lot of your ideas in my home. I painted my house black and white. I just think some of the items today are a little off the mark.
This was fabulous all the tips are beautiful
Thank you so much!
Ha, that's absolutely hilarious!
Here's an example of a home that is GORGEOUS and probably delights in showcasing grandma's heirlooms and mohair (?) velvet seating and colorful artwork. ua-cam.com/users/shortsVrHIE59WEzs?feature=shared
PS: the Bissell is fine on durable fabrics that can tolerate water and water soluble cleaning agents.
It's cool that you actually added a video.
I thought “boucle” was out?
Your home is beautiful. Love you taste.
I’m sorry but the white bowls are shaped a little too steange for me.
Cannot use them for food. One is about 100.00, the other was listed 800.00.....just to stuff them with plastic bags and moss😂
LOL.
Artwork is such a big factor. I see so many people with small pieces of art hung way too high.
I like your hair too.
Or…we can leave the comment in the open comment section on her public channel.
Ah love this! I’m an interior designer for wayfair store brands!
That's awesome! What does that mean?
Designer for Perigold, Allmodern, jossandmain, birchlane! Most of the stuff you love is from Perigold! I work with clients primarily from that storefront!
That's awesome! I'd love to work with Wayfair more. I'd love to do a design collaboration with one of their brands. If you know someone 😀
Could that new boucle chair be used as a dining chair???
I like coppwr toned metal
I disagree with horse art looking childish. How is that childish and scribble art not? 🤷
Equestrian art is really popular in some areas of the country! If I find a print or canvas I like I buy it. I live near Lexington ky
@@reginabrowning8278 I love it as well
Laughing at creepy busts 😂
HOV an authority on "Great Art"?????????
I'm an authority on art that I actually like and find inspiring, so I would say yes!!!! 😀
Understood! Thanks for including "High End" options OTHER than "Bold Graphic Designs", which I know you LOVE, but to me sometimesDETRACTrather than ADD to your preferred"LuxuryAesthetic"!
Ah I have a couch that's a 3 seater that I.just bought a couple of years ago. I like it but Valentina I know what you mean.
And having grown up in a Greek immigrant family I have so much sentimental decor, but so out of date.
I definitely understand!
That accent chair is tiny
The art in your home is so Home Goods. If you bought authentic work it would elevate your home. Maybe an art school graduate exhibit as a starter. The work on your walls is bad….not authentic and it shows.
I feel like her most recent house tour has so much generic art. She’s moved her dramatic, elevated pieces around, they’re still there but I feel like there shouldn’t be any more additions of home goods-looking canvas or “generic” black and whites, I think interesting painting and loud Luxury photographs would spice her home up in the perfect way
art has become more like decor these days, and that is a very rude and disrespectful comment btw.
If you don’t like her artwork, don’t buy it and no need to announce it. She’s putting her ideas out there and they’ll be picked up by those who like it. You can really stop being rude now.
@@HR-re6mrright...if you would not say it to someone's face why say in in the comments?
@@mr-tg4xn I do not think she ever once said do not buy original art. And this is HER house and HER choice.
People might not like busts, but why are people still buying gnomes? I can’t stand them and not in the garden either. All the seasonal gnomes at HomeGoods make me 🤮. Anyone else agree?
To each their own. Not for us to gnome shame, but I agree with you and mentally say “bless their heart”! 😂
@@kzkrazy2278 we all have our likes and dislikes. We wouldn’t want to be all the same. I just don’t like gnomes, but only second to my dislike of clowns. They both give me nightmares

Thanks to timeless baby furniture purchases 10 years ago, it is still beautiful today! I can't imagine making that purchase in 2024!
I do have a question. I am moving out of my minimalist mindset and suddenly need more furniture in my living room. My furniture is centered in the room with our fireplace on wall and tv on another. How does one fill the perimeter without it being all tables?
Wow, thank you for sharing that! That's so exciting!!!!
