You really have to admire the Mennonite for their close family and community ties. They are to be commended for their hard work, and their wholesome life style. Thanks John, Holly, and all the Family, and God Bless 🙂.
thank you for the nice comment our friend.. John
Thank You
Agreed! ☺️ I don't know much about the Mennonites but every single time I hear, read or see something about them they're always so insanely hardworking, close and family orientated which is really admirable ❤️ Sadly things that are seriously lacking nowadays.
@The Appalachian Channel where is this store located, these country stores never tell where they located
I was Mennonite in the 80's. I used to make homemade bread but don't anymore because I have arthritis in my wrist. I have really enjoyed watching you and the life you live. It's very special. God bless you.
My mother loved this place... Muddy Pond in general. She has a time share in Lake Tansi, and I drove her over from there and to Jamestown, Rugby and bunch of other places. She died 10 years ago but she would have loved these video's.
Outstanding video! Thank God there are still people out there that are keeping the old ways alive.
Thanks for watching
It's commending for this generation to continue what the grandparents started . It shows that they lived and nurtured this place with blood sweat and tears, with love and dedication
Thank You Holly! Your Grandma wasn't lazy. She taught school, had 8 kids and a husband to care for, ran a store, baked bread, cakes, pies, kept house, split wood, tamed lions, straightened nails, repaired wagons, and balances the check book.. They don't make women like that and more!
I have so much respect for the Mennonites, hard working talented humble people.
Thank you for your kind comment. Thanks for watching
That’s a gas light you were showing on the video
That was so nice of Holly to take the time to show all of their store and surroundings and show the kitchen, bread making and butchering areas. I think if I get down to Tennessee on vacation I will make it a point of going to visit their store. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for your comment and thanks for
I always appreciate how many skills they pass on to one another. It is truly admirable. They also present themselves in such a wholesome manner. It is nice that amidst the chaos and society's general loss of family values, they have carried on their traditions.
Thanks for the comment
I was born in Crossville Tn, I now live in the Chattanooga area but I go up there all the time to this store. I have been buying from them for years. They are really nice people I love the way they live. May God bless this family as they continue to help others. Thanks for making this video I love to watch all the places you go so glad that you went there blessings!!!
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
Can i order food from there? Thanks
I've went by this place numerous times on my way to Jamestown but never truly understood. What a precious gift it was. Next time I make the trip I will make enough time to spend hours there 🙏👍
We need to go back to these times. Here in the west we have lost our identity/respect/values. Such a crying shame. I could move there tomorrow. How refreshing.
I watched all the videos about this amazing family but I must admit I keep watching it for holly and her sister lol
This the most beautiful Bread. Now I understand give us this day our daily bread.
Yes
Absolutely love learning about this community. Cool thing is I met John Guenther and Pete and doreen and some the rest the family back in 2015 when I was 14 as my family traveled all the the way up from Saskatchewan, Canada to visit them and travel the states to share about adoption (as me and my twin are adopted) as they are all actually our cousins too and we wanted to visit and learn more about the family and history. I remembered going visiting the sorghum fields and playing in with some the cousins at doreens house visiting the mill (didn't get to see them make any though unfortunately) but our short visit out there is one my fav memories. The whole family was super kind and accepting and we felt welcomed with open arms.
Neufeld from Saskatchewan, eh? I'm from Manitoba.
Holly is an amazing lady! We both have the same name so I know she is awesome!
I have never heard a grandchild mention grandma and grandpa so much❤. Grandma and grandpa r beautiful, Granddaughter is amazing.
Thanks for your comment
I'd love to marry into a Mennonite family. After watching these folk, I'm even more convinced I'd fit right in and work equally as hard. God Bless all y'all at the store and thank you, Appalachian Channel, for another great video.
Thank yo-u and God bless you too!
My name is al so I hear ya😊
You are most welcome. :)
It’s nice to view wholesome content on UA-cam with lively hosts!

What a friendly and hard working women here and they seems to be at the same time so soft and warm-hearted. Even through the video felt the good vibes there. Thank you for the happy moments by watching it!💚🙏

❤ Love the Geunther Family!! And everything they are doing! God Bless them and You for keeping old traditions and letting us know about it! Laura from Florida.
The Guenthers are the best! Thank you so much for watching what we do here on The Appalachian Channel..
Very nice store & people who work there. What’s so nice about these small communities is they have good people and these small businesses don’t have to deal with rampant shoplifting & destruction of their property like we see currently happening in so many cities.
I’m a midwife assistant for this area and my husband grew up around this family! Great family of people. 😊
Where you from? Thanks for watching
@@theappalachianchannel I’m from Crossville but I live in Ozone now
Another great video showing behind the scenes of a store, sorghum processing, baking along with interesting side comments. Thanks for preserving Americana in your videos. Blessings to you.
Thank you for watching the video and making a comment.. John

Where can i see these shows. U Tube cost money monthly. Help? Thank you
An absolutely wonderful job, putting this video together. That young lady, what can I say, she makes you feel good inside from the enthusiasm she has, showing us around the place and her explanation of this place.
Thanks for your comment
Such rich traditions and family roots!! Truly things that are disappearing that are so much needed today!! I still remember my grandfather killing hogs, smoking meat, etc. God bless this family and I think I will have to visit!!
Thanks for watching and your comment
This has been so interesting. I love the minimite people in the Amish and we have some friends. Here and they they are just wonderful people. I've enjoyed this watching you with the store. And her and her telling all the story about how they farm and they have their cattle and everything and their store was so neat I loved watching it. Thank you very much for what you have given us.
Wonderful family traditions!
Love my Amish heritage and it was so good to see others with the same family heritage doing this an having a store will definitely have to make a visit out there
Thank you for watching the video and making a comment..John
@@theappalachianchannel your welcome
Thank you Holly, Doreen, and Michelle for sharing all of this with us.
I am fascinated by Mennonites and Amish. I try to visit them whenever I learn about a new-to-me enclave. There’re all around the outskirts of Chattanooga!
Thanks for watching and your comment
Pretty laid back, old school store and awesome lifestyle. I love the fact that most of the work is manual than relying on high tech equipment to make the 🍞 and other bakery products! It's a huge blessing to stay consistent in terms of doing things and lifestyle especially maintaining old school way. Old fashioned is pretty cool. However it's a good idea to get some internet and credit card machine just to boost the business and make it convenient for the customers.
This is why the world is waking up to realize there is a special blessing in old school stuff and I bet, God is about to be found. I love your lifestyle, Mennonites. May God bless you and your store!
Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching
My girlfriend is Mennonite and she is slowly moving away because she decided not to wear anything on her head anymore since she lived in the city. Her family disowned her over it. She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life and tells all the stories. I met her because she had a small spot in a farmers market that sold the most amazing bakery items. One day she said a minor curse word near me and my jaw dropped. I of course do curse but don't around her. "Really Connie? You're shocked that I said sh*t? I say a lot worse than that some days!" It was then that we became close. She felt that she could be true to who she feels she is. She loves being a Mennonite, but she also likes being herself. She loves to teach others the Mennonite ways. She is quite a unique treasure to have as a friend, and I can confirm that yes, she has said worse words.
Thanks for your comment and thanks for
There are many Mennonite congregations that are more progressive and do not wear a head covering or practice shunning and such. I pray she finds a church that she feels comfortable and blessed in.
There are Mennonites in Brooklyn, NYC that do wear head coverings. The men are less obvious, but I can easily recognize them.
Too bad she no longer lives by the teachings of scripture like she was taught. People need to get back to it, not leave it.
She is of Mennonite heritage, not one herself. She as many do , has left the faith.
Been there to the Guenthers many times and their sorghum is, by far, the best I have ever used. Thanks for sharing this video.
Oh I love family stores my grandpas farm in Missouri is now 4 th. generation . And I love it. Blessings

Great , glad to see some of these many wise people. And there devices they built ! Thanks

Never seen bread like that, It looks delicious! Too bad Im living in The Netherlands... Love your channel, sounds like an amazing place to grow up, with these beautifull traditions and the simple living, like stepping back in history.
Yes it’s sure is like stepping back in time
That food in that celler wow that would be outstanding on a cold winter evening!!!
❤ I was just here a couple months ago. Lovely area and people.
yes they are awesome people for sure
In PA a lot of the older homes had a summer kitchen to keep the heat out of the house during the summer.
Thanks for watching and your comment
Proud to be from Muddy Pond
I'm from Ohio. Watching these videos reminds me of the cracker barrel. These videos bring joy to my heart
💕 A lot of hardwork goes into successful farming, the extreme cold winters and very hot summers don't help either. Some farms here in N. Alabama used to mill and cook sorghum mallases too.
The skills handed down through your family can only be learned through experience, and a labor of love.
Thank you for sharing; I learned so much.
Thank you for the video, and for providing your products.
So happy we're close enough to shop at your store!
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
That was a fu and educational tour by this very articulate young lady. What a nice life!
I can’t believe this place! I’d have to buy that good bread and all those goodies they make. I can’t believe the apple stack cake is only $2.50/slice! That’s a deal. I didn’t see the fried pies or pumpkin rolls or fruit cakes but heard them talk about them. I wish they had mail order because I would be ordering !
SAME!! 😊
No that would destroy the product. If you want it go get it.
Enjoyed all of the video John. Holly is sweet and did a Great job explaining everything, a great place to visit.
Holly and all her family are great people and hard workers for sure.
21:30 I find it amazing that even in a place as remote as Muddy Pond Tennessee you need to place that sign on your door.
This is awesome all the way around. Soo cool !!!
What a great picture and memory. My mom would take me from Brooklyn to Macys in Manhattan by train to see Santa and than she would by me a vanilla par-fey on the first floor. I miss those days and most of all I miss mom. Thank you grandma, thanks for the memories. ❤
Thank you for sharing your memories, your comment and thanks for watching
I enjoyed this, the skills they have maintained living off the land are priceless. Some of the things described I recall from my youth. The growing of gardens, and canning we still do here.Watching the baking and describing the curing of the pork etc, has any main stream media cooking show beat hands down. Thanks for doing this.
You’re welcome, it’s my pleasure. Thank you for watching
I have watched your channel and recently saw a updated visit to this store. I honestly did not know about the Mennonite religion and the culture but so very impressed by their work ethic and humbleness! I again had never heard of sorghum but decided to try it. Online I bought it from Muddy Pond and just received it🙂 I will see how this Southern California ( Santa Barbara ) guy likes his new purchase!
I'm a new subscriber and we will be moving to Tennessee in 2024 and can't wait to visit your store. So excited. Great video.
I've got the cast iron vat where we rendered lard over a fire (when I was young). We raised 4 hogs every year, cured hams and shoulders; mostly sausage for everything else. There was sorghum in the area, but we never raised cane.
So nice to see the old fashioned goodness livin on. Wholesome loving folks livin right!!!
Holly is sweet y’all. A real woman in modern times!!’
Enjoyed watching the podcast!
All the way up here in Canada.

I grow up also with the no power with a out house , a one burner kerosene stove wood fire and a grill..!! Talking about grandpa, seeing the Train BBQ PIT and then Holly making the cheese jalapeño loaf I said...That’s the girl I want to get married to 😍💐..!!

What a lovely way to live. There should be more stores like this, worldwide...I would be so happy to buy from a family business rather than the huge supermarkets. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Wonderful video. I make bread at least twice a week. Everyone loves sourdough bread.
I do
The kind of grapes were called muscadine grapes. My mom had some grapes growing,
She told me that was what kind of grapes they were called. Ask her if those grapes were green ones an round like a marble.
If she says yes then that is what they are called. Love this video, thank you for sharing.
Glad that you enjoyed it!
The food looks delicious! I love those little stores - reminds me of the one in Gap Mills, WV. BTW the logo in the lower left hand corner is misspelled. Thank you for your videos.🙂

Love ordinary folks all skins from all corners of the world. Am 71 and this brought back wonderful memories.
Well thank you and thanks for watching our channel
We have 2 huge families of Mennonite here, Yoders, and miller's, some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and know. And make the absolute best breads I have ever tasted!! We all could learn a few lessons from these people now days.. the world would be a better place for it.
Thanks for watching and your comment
What beautiful ladies, and Ms. Holly's smile is breathtaking. I love to see people still be self sufficient. After the passing of a neighbor I know of no one within a 50 or even a 80 miles radius that still kills hogs and smokes them. I hope that this is something we can return to. Ms. Holly may God bless you and all your family in your efforts.

I know about the out house my brother and I bought my grandfathers house so he didn't have to deal with the up keep and taxes and the out house is still here and we use it when working outside working. Grandpa said you need a two holer for every household. Wight with a red roof and a half moon on the door for good luck. When family comes to visit guess what they use.
