@@morgy2010 If you read the Bible you'll see that what you refer to as 'modern equality' isn't written there. I don't claim to know that much about Mennonites outside of my limited knowledge in their historical beginnings, but what is interesting to me is that you don't see Mennonites or The Amish preaching the scriptures to the rest of the world, but.... and this is a BIG BUT.... They LIVE what they believe in, and they show that belief in practice like coryrain's story above. My problem with the Mennonites stems from their systematic exclusion from society when it comes to technology, for example. Nowhere in scripture does it say that men and women are to dress like "Little House on The Prairie", rather the Bible does say to dress modestly. I for example on most days wear sweat pants, a t shirt, a Hooded sweat shirt and sneakers with just my hands and head exposed. I'm not a Mennonite but I agree with dressing modestly. You don't have to dress from another century to be modest. Also nowhere in scripture does it say that we as Followers of Jesus Christ have to excommunicate technology, however when it comes to that technology like smartphones, laptops, computers, tv, movies, tv shows, and music we as Followers of Christ Jesus KNOW what we are allowed to see (as it's written... the eye is the lamp of the body), what music we listen to (In all things honor and worship The Lord), and even video games where there is a plethora of Christian content as well, although I must confess I see nothing wrong with Mario or Sonic The Hedgehog or older arcade games like Tempest or Centipede for example. It's about self control and discipline, no matter if you cut the world's technology out or not you still have your own sinful flesh and desires to deal with. For example I watch Christian programming (which sometimes is hard to do because of so many false teachers out there), or Christian tv shows, or I listen to only Christian music and so on. We don't need to cut out technology, rather we need to cut out the sin that can be presented in that technology, and again no one is forcing anybody to look up pornography or listen to unGodly music or watch wicked programming on the internet or cable. That's a CHOICE, and by the way God gave us CHOICE to follow or reject God. These Mennonite communities think by cutting out technology then they can take away the desire to sin, but again as I wrote before we're all prone to sin no matter where we are due to our fallen nature.

I grew up in a small rural town in Canada basically in farm country, and a few blocks from where I lived was a Mennonite family. I don’t remember them speaking German like the people in this documentary, they spoke perfect English with no accent. They also had 8 children, including a daughter with Down syndrome, and a son who was non verbal. When I had days off of school and my mother was busy and my dad was at work, I would go over to their house and play with their kids. They also helped look after me and my two sisters when my mom had a stroke, and they would bring us baked goods during the holidays. They were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I moved away when I was 12 and I still think about them from time to time and wonder how they are, but unfortunately I can’t look them up on social media. (For obvious reasons).

I came to the comment section to say this because as someone who currently lives in a small rural town in Cananda, my family know many Mennonites in our community and I’ve personally babysat a little Mennonite girl who used a wheelchair to get around. yeah a lot of religious requirements are just determined to be "good enough". Like how in islam, followers should be only eating animals killed in a specific halal way but a lot of muslims don't bother with that since it's hard to find depending on where you live. The rule was made when mass animal farming didn't exist so you can rationalise it as doing the best you can. Probably the same with these mennonites

Setting aside the obvious concerns of potential abuse, I am most curious about how they decide what is and isn’t acceptable technology. Why for example is a sewing machine acceptable or even an oil lamp. Why are some inventions okay but others like a mobile phone not? I’m genuinely curious
It is atleast somewhat arbitrary but I think generally they try draw a line between ‘pleasure’ and ‘practicality’. Sowing machines and tractors are purely work tools.
This is really kind of amazing. We have a mennonite community here in my german hometown too - but their life is far from anything comparable. Compared to the community in the video their life seems modern, almost average. To be honest, I have my problems with the idea of western people settling in the Amazon. Because this is the ancient way of colonization and the destruction of the Rain Forest is one of the greatest threats to native peoples and human kind as a whole, since this is the green lung of the world and so important with regards to climate aspects.
It's true that white people have a penchant for homesteading, i.e. colonizing. But it's not the small communities of people like Mennonites that are devastating rainforests. It's mega corporations and corrupt governments.

And of course it is a heavily patriarchal society. Yeah what a paradise on Earth. I feel sorry for the children who are indoctrinated into this by their parents. They sadly have no choice.
So sad to hear them say how things are this and that and they do not even know why. Just because of an old tradition. The only light in that dark tunnel is that alternative community that seems to embrace more joys of life.

Haha yeah as a Pennsylvanian I was thinking the same thing throughout the whole video. Amish are way more restrictive, if they can't get a horse and buggy or bicycle they'll carpool with coworkers/friends or as a last resort get a taxi, Mennonites drive their own cars. In recent decades even the Amish have begun using electricity for very basic things like light and refrigeration.
Absolutely right, that's what I thought too
It's true that white people have a penchant for homesteading, i.e. colonizing. But it's not the small communities of people like Mennonites that are devastating rainforests. It's mega corporations and corrupt governments.

They moved to Peru years ago actually. Locals like them, locals learn from their agriculture knowledge and like the products they are selling. But there is unease in this rustic paradise. It is one of three Mennonite communities being investigated by Peruvian prosecutors over accusations of illegally deforesting more than 3,440 hectares (34 sq km) of tropical rainforest in the past five years. The brush with the law has alarmed the community of about 100 families who fear they could lose the land which they have made their home. @@Лана-б5т твоя счастье под забором..у них другое!
Love them or Hate them, you have too admire their dedication .
i dont admire anything that a child abusing cult does.
There are many Mennonites in my town, and they are the kindest most hard working people you'll ever meet.
Akon is a goated way to get introduced to music. Imagine building a rap scene in the community;)
I hope they do updated videos of the progress
Locals like them, locals learn from their agriculture knowledge and like the products they are selling. But there is unease in this rustic paradise. It is one of three Mennonite communities being investigated by Peruvian prosecutors over accusations of illegally deforesting more than 3,440 hectares (34 sq km) of tropical rainforest in the past five years. The brush with the law has alarmed the community of about 100 families who fear they could lose the land which they have made their home. In order to carry out deforestation there you need a permit from the state, and in this case, they did not have any permit
Pruhgress? That thars a funny word, whatch it meanin? It ain’t got nuthun to do with satun now do it? Cause if it ain’t in the Good Book, it be the word of satun!
Wow get community May God bless them ....from Germany
Can we get an update on these families? This video wasn’t uploaded too long ago but it takes a while plan out a longish term trip with them especially if they are still in the amazon. Personally if they moved to the amazon jungle i think their dead.
I looked it up and they were accused of deforestation without permits by the local authorities. They might lose their land.
Thanks for this .....can see they are integrating well in Uganda East Africa...
Always wondered a lot about the religion and their way of lifr
Massive amount of respect for Abraham and his family. What adventures!
They use generators but not cars? Makes Zero sense! The car is a generator on wheels!
I wish these people well....best wishes from scotland
I worked at the museum and they come in quite a few times. They have cell phones and credit cards.
Evil 😡
As a Christian I totally agree with that
@@selah920I am not religious, but that does make sense.
@@lzbhcvm6747such a comprehensive and clever statement, you must be highly educated!
Almost similar to the Amish🎉it is interesting enough to see how these people still enjoy real life🎉and real nature and are very content with all of that.🎉 I love it.😊 although i would miss the music😂
Whoa, I immediately got bad vibes from that teacher that they show in the first few minutes. His mannerisms, look on his face, the way that he stood so close to the children, wow just wow. I mean at the very least, he looks creepy.
I think it would be better for all of us to live this way. Greetings good people!
Let me get this straight. You think it would be better to live without music, to shun loved ones who slightly disagree with you, to not be able to wear what you want - even a color. To be forced to believe in strict rules or be punished. And this is just what is shown on camera. Many of these communities are rife with physical and sexual abuse.
No thank you.
@@katharinehorowitz1709 I didn't know that, I actually thought that we should return to God and nature. Technology has not brought us anything good.
@@sanjajusth then why are you watching on UA-cam?
Where was the german part in die first one minute? I didn't hear nothing 😂
Forest... We don't need more people to deforest already eaten up jungle... 😢
Whether it's good or bad doesn't depend on things, it's on our minds.
We have Amish communities here. We have modern Mennonite families. I thought Mennonites left the Amish because they wanted to live in the world and practice their more conservative values. I'm so confused 😂. Got to hand it to these people. Takes a lot of faith in yourself to up and move countries. I wonder how well the people there received them? We need a follow-up
The women are sure sturdy looking.
A great documentary. Not sure about their invading the Amazon.
Sounds like a cult to me
Funny they never changed when I was a kid in the 60s in Manitoba, my dad would drive some of the local Mennonites into town and I remember seeing the eating ice cream standing in front of the hardware store watching TV😂😂😂 Lovely people on the whole
Isn’t it forbidden for them to use the plane?! 🤡🤡 this is so insane and doesn’t make any sense
