    I have to give credit to all the vendors, they are exhibiting their goods in such a beautiful way, with class and honor to both the rocks and the customers. Also, it must be very hard for them in these days, it cost a lot to travel and rent a place indoors, then being there for hours and less people coming and buying. You have to cherish the people coming, new friends, and conversations to make it worth while.
    Thank you for filming, a good job as usual!

      Lilly Love It’s totally my pleasure to share thank you so much for watching I really appreciate it :) A lot of times the vendors put a lot of love in their location especially since they might’ve been in the same location for over 20 years and they know how to present their particular space in there than you I see some new people this year that either have too much and too little of a space or too little in to much space and I could see you directly affecting their show

    When I see the low prices on those beautiful pieces I get a little daunted as a hobbyist aspiring to do this for a living someday, i'm sure I'll figure it out when the time comes. Thanks for the vid Dave, I've been binge watching the Tucson and Denver G&M shows so much lately they should be a Netflix series lol. :)

      Chad Atchison Thanks so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it I understand what you mean by a little daunting as a hobbyist aspiring to do this for a living I often tell people that there is no money and carving certain gemstone such as Tigers eye ,adventurine,red jasper, and other super cheap materials there are just not point of wasting the time and wheels to cab them since foreign wholesale vendors As Americans we need to learn to not waste your time on that kind of stuff and leave it to the folks who put hundreds of thousands of pieces of that stuff a month for a dollar or less we need to start working on high-end stuff such as turquoise and other materials that the super cheap wholesalers cannot only waste your time cutting but also do not have the clientele to sell to and I think this can easily help the American lapidary to be taken more seriously
      As of right now a gemstone being hurt by the American isn’t that impressive overseas but when it comes to gemstones especially in the facet scene that is slowly starting to change I’m optimistic for the future but we need to start cutting better materials as a country

      @@lapidarydave Funny enough that's been my goal, to practice on cheap stones (mostly what I find in the river by my house) until I get the skills to trust myself with buying more expensive material. I recently bought some cheap Yellow Jade and marveled at how soft it is to cab and how pretty and vibrant the color is. My main issue when buying better material is I don't know what i'm doing lol, do you or anybody know where I can find the information to learn about which gems and minerals is the most sought after for making cabs?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому +1

      Chad Atchison Jade is one of the best materials to start working to get used to putting a wide variety of materials unfortunately I don’t know any particular websites on information when it comes to different materials and how they cut I have some old books from the 40s and 50s that have a lot of this information but I’m sure a lot of it’s out of date since the machinery is completely different than what we use today and I have hundreds of issues of lapidary journal with the same information I plan on uploading all of the issues of library journal to the Internet I contacted the old manufacture of lapidary journal and even they don’t have as many issues as I do for whatever reason they didn’t keep an old stock

    Your videos are so satisfying. I love that you interact with the vendors. They seem a little standoffish. Maybe they are not used to having good conversation with one so knowledgeable. It seems they hold back a little and don’t give back too much to the conversation. I could watch these for hours.

    • @lillylove3508
      @lillylove3508 3 роки тому

      Maybe because it’s important to keep some business secrets, who you import from etc? Or maybe because most people act weird when they know they are filmed? 😁

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому

      la wilder Thank you so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it one of my favorite parts of filming the show is the interaction with the vendors when it comes to folks from East India and Africa they are definitely not camera shy and usually are very happy to be interviewed however it seems to be the Americans that really do not like to be on camera I try to be polite and never film when there’s people around but a lot of people who don’t make their own stuff I find do not like to be filmed because they don’t want people to know that they’re not making it themselves also when it comes to Native American jewelry it is easy to send the footage to wholesale jewelry makers in Bali India Hong Kong or Thailand to be replicated so they don’t like to be filmed either AnyWho thanks so much again for watching and please consider subscribing to the channel if you haven’t done so already really helps

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому

      Lilly Love Definitely in some cases but also in other cases folks do not want others to know that they did not make the materials himself so that I don’t embarrass the vendors I often ask if they Are the designer instead of if they made the jewelry this way they can say yes and feel good about saying that they had some part of the jewelry making I’ve definitely embarrassed hooks in the past by asking them if they did the fabrication or the casting when they denied it and then they would ask me not to share the fridge anyway thank you so much for watching I really appreciate it please consider subscribing if you haven’t done so already really helps to channel

    Just curious. if you were to purchase the cut gemstones where can you go to have them put into jewelry?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  2 роки тому

      Probably have them fit into necklace if they were faceted since faceted rings look cheap in silver even when they are legit and if they were cabochons I’d make rings and bracelets depending on material and size
